Droid X Stock not reading SD cards - Droid X General

Has anyone else had trouble with this?
I (am probably one of the few who) actually like Blur, so I did an SBF of 602, rooted, CWM, then flashed the deodexed+rooted 605 rom. From there, the stock music player (nor Google Music app) couldn't read my SD card, the camera wouldn't save any images or open them. However, the file manager was able to read the SD card just fine.
I've heard horror stories about the DX eating/corrupting SD's, but CWM could read it fine, and when I flash OMFGB it could also read my card.
Any help/info would be appreciated, thank you!

A Couple of Questions Please if I May :D

First of all, really big KUDOS MUCHACHOS to the CM7 Dev guys! I had already donated a pretty hefty amount due to using CM7 so much on my Evo but I donated again cuz this is awesome! I do have a couple of questions tho, which I can't fine answers to. I did search for them but really had no luck. The NC community is not yet as organized as the EVO one, I am getting conflicting information and in general having a really ***** of a time finding anything so sorry if some of this has been answered(Im sure that's likely the case at least for some of them).
I used the size-agnostic SD card thing to make the SD Card i had into a CM7 install. Running the latest stable(as of 2 days ago). But thing of moving it all to internal memory. So here are my questions.
1: If I do this, will I be able to still access the real NC OS that shipped with the device? The Nook for Android app sucks, it won't play several of the books I already got(says they are invalid format when I try to DL them) so it is imperative to me that I keep access to the NC OS i have now(but I wouldn't care if it were on the SD card as long as it worked for reading books).
2: What will CM7 be like if I do this? I am gonna assume it won't take so long to boot anymore? Will it basically be a giant phone? Full access to the SD card? Still able to use the internal memory as storage(I use it to store music now)? Work exactly like my Evo does now? Except that it won't make calls of course.
3: Rooting. It seems that so many people are running CM7 that the guides/walkthroughs on rooting are hard to find. So a simple question or two pls Which method should I use? What, if any, are the drawbacks? I would still run CM7 most of the time but while in NC OS to read or something it would be nice to have access to android market etc as long as it wont effect my install of CM7.
4: CM7 nightlies. Can I run them from the SD card as well? If so can I just flash them right over my current SD card install without losing everything?
5: Can i run the OC Kernal while running CM7 from the SD card or do I have to run on Internal Memory for that to be possible?
Thanks for taking the time to read this pls answer any questions that you can I'd appreciate it so much!

I'll answer what I can.
1: Nope, stock ROM is replaced when you install CM7 to emmc. No way around it.
2: I'll have to defer on this one, I've always run from SD card. BTW, you are running from a class 2 card, right? The "faster" cards have serious issues.
3: My understanding is that you have to use ManualNooter for B&N 1.2. I haven't gotten around to rooting it since I upgraded to 1.2, but it was painless on the earlier ROM. There were no drawbacks, besides the fact that it's not CM7. ;-)
4: Yup, they just flash right over just as long as your following verygreen's instructions.
5: Yup, OC from SD works fine.
I don't know the specs on my SD card, it's whatever came with my EVO. I upgraded to a 32gb on the EVO so I used the old one for the Nook. My Evo is only a couple months old if that helps ya.

[Q] nooter vs cm7 confused

I have a nook color rooted (1.1) and i am trying to figure out how to go to 1.2. what i dont understand is the distinction/differences between manual nooting to froyo (going back to stock, doing the B&N upgrade, then the manual nooter to reroot) VS using CM7. What are the differences, advantages, disadvantages... would either get me froyo? do i have to go back to stock for either? or is it just two different approaches to the same end. can anyone can point me to a place to read up on this without having to read the entire site would be highly appreciated. thanks
Try this
I autonooted my NC back in February and avoided the upgrade, renooter process waiting until a new autonooter program came out (which it has not). So about 2 weeks ago I tried verygreen's sd-card mount of CM7 together with Dalingren's OC kernel. It is fantastic! Not at all hard to do either.
The Nook application from the android market is better than the native version, and, of course, I am also running Kindle and about 20 apps.
So while I cannot really answer the specifics of your question, I can encourage your through my own personal experience to try what I did.
Good luck.

CM7 is gingerbread, or Android 2.3 and is a whole new OS. Your current 1.1 is Eclair (Android 2.1) and the new 1.2 stock is actually Froyo (Android 2.2).
The best way to go to 1.2, if that is your destination, is to go back to stock first, then upgrade to 1.2 via B&N and then do manual nooter. There are instructions on that whole process in the manual nooter link.
If you want to go to CM7, there's no point in even talking about 1.2 - they are completely different animals. You can either use a dual boot, CM7 on an SD card, or flash CM7 directly to the nook. I've never messed with dual boot, but you'll need a bootable SD card for most of the above anyway (look in the CM7 link above or here)
Now - the differences...
CM7 is pretty much wide open. The devs pour a lot of time into it so it has bluetooth, usb hosting and all kinds of other stuff. However, it's a whole different interface and isn't really meant to be a reader (the B&N android market app/reader just don't cut it compared to the stock ones, by most accounts). I like to think of it as CM7 is a cheap tablet that can be a reader and rooted stock as a reader than can double as a tablet. Both have overclocking kernels.
Personally, I prefer rooted stock, which is what's on all 3 of the ones in my family. But to each his own. Hope that helps you...
Yes, I should just read the threads, but...
Anyone wanna comment on...
1) dualbooting (nooted) stock w/CM7 on SD card, vs 2) CM7 flashed to NC...
...and 3) dualbooting CM7 flashed to NC, with (nooted) 'stock' on SD card?
I believe I read you can put stock on the SD card? Can you put (nooted) stock on SD?
Is there much difference/advantage to running CM7 flashed vs on SD card?
(not talking about stock OS availability, just the CM7 installation method/residence.)
How much SD space used by OS? Any hardware diffs/limits besides perhaps speed?
If dualbooting with SD card... such as 32GB ...can you use full capacity for OS, apps, storage? whether CM7 or stock is on SD card.
With stock on the NC... it's neatly official/updatable/resellable, with extra value SD card(s).
With stock on SD, it's a fallback... for a modded added-value 90+% 'tablet'.
Guess I'd lean toward (nooted) stock on NC, with CM7 (etc!) on SD's... unless CM7 flashed to NC would operate USB/bluetooth... so much better...?
CM7 on SD card will run slower than internal. Depending on your SD card, it may or may not be acceptably slow.
Here is something for the best of both worlds:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156909
Or you can take the easy way and use stock for a few days. Then root it for a few days. And then try CM7 for a few. See which one you like most and keep it.
Ah, multi-boot...
Thanks for the multiboot link... now, there's a project. Have to take me NookC down for a bit... set aside time for that! Titanium bkp first. Test a spare SD card setup. Then plunge.
cm7 vs stock rooting
Thank you all.i set up cm7 on a16GB SD card and I would never go back. It is a much fuller and richer tablet experience. and bluetooth works though range is so short as to be unusable. starrting to get force close errors so I fixed permissions with root explorer which helped some. Now I have decided to flash cm7 to nook directly. speed has not been a problem but want to overclock... and other posts indicated that doing so will largely eliminate the fc errors.. the addiction begins. Thank you all again for the advice and encouragement. Btw one of the biggest pluses is that with cm7 I could install dsp and the sound from the speaker can now be easily heard. I actually h ave to turn it down sometimes because too loud if u can believe that!

[Q] Dual Booting

After playing around on my recently rooted NC running Cyanogen7 I decided that I would much rather dual boot it. None of the ereaders I downloaded work a well as the BN reader that is built in. Actually just as I typed that last sentence I tried Alkido and I love it as an e-reader. Still, I would like to unroot my NC and dual boot it so I can have the option of regular BN device whenever I want. I was just wondering if someone knew of a good guide to dual booting, as I'm not sure about some of the ones I found.
Also, just so I'm understanding this correctly, if I dual boot it, I can run Cyanogen7 or the Stock 1.2 whenever I want by taking out the sd card or placing it in and restarting it? And I will still have Cyanogen7 running perfectly when I want? Thanks so much. I'm new to a lot of this hacking stuff, obviously.
This is certainly possible, though would have been far easier for you had you done it initially, either way it shouldn't be too hard.
you need to do a titanium backup of all your apps and data, then google the guide to cm7 on sd card (also consider picking up a class 2 or 4 sandisk microsd as it performs many orders of magnitude better than other cards at running an os.) Once you have that set up, restore your apps to the sd card rom, your can then grab a restore zip of the barnes and noble rom, do a wipe in clockwork recovery and flash the zip.
That should get you where you want.
I would have provided links at each point but its more hassle than its worth trying to search while on the nook. You should be able to find the appropriate guides through google without much trouble. Try "restore nook color" and "nook color cm7 sd boot"

[Q] External SD - Tab no see it.....SOLUTION FOUND SEE OP

UPDATE well it looks as though I have found a solution to my woes. I made several attempts of formatting the 2gb card in my laptop to no avail. I tried my old captivate that it originally came out of and the cappy had troubles reading it. I then stuck it in my evo and it registered instant, so I did asdcard format on my evo and then finally the tablet registers the card. In case this helps anyone else
First off someone please enlighten me on the tabs use and the way it mounts the external SD, I read somewhere that it only uses it for media files such as music books and pics. I have an 8GB that belongs in my EVO, and a 2gb that I had for my captivate I was hoping to use in my Tab for now.
Here's my story, maybe someone can shed a little light here: My tab was purchased with Stock 3.1, I was getting annoyed by the constant update request so I went ahead and rooted and installed CWM without incident, then I decided to install the Stock rooted update from here, however when I insert my SD cards they say they are unavailable. So I stick my 2gb in my laptop format to fat32 (should this be different?, typically it works in every other device I own) It still won't read, I did exactly as others point out in other threads but still I am stumped as to how the card is made available to the OS ? Now in a fit of frustration I pulled my 8gb out of my evo put the 2gb in and wham there it is, I put the 3.2 download on the 8gb popped it in tab entered CWM and flashed the update, I don't know if the 2gb is mountable in CWM I will try tonight but the 8gb was mountable through CWM however my 8gb also was not available to Android even after the update.
So what the heck is the use of the external SD and how is it used?
I think you might have an issue with your ROM,
I use my external SD for my titanium backups and other files I want to keep portable. I have used the SD card through my PC via USB and directly by putting into the PC's card reader.
Have you tried using a file manager? I use File Manager HD and the external card shows up as Storage on the left bar.
As for the filesystem, I think I may have originally formatted as FAT but I have also pulled my SD out of my Blackberry and used it to install Honeylicious through CWM,
All in all I dont think you should be having the issues that you are having...
Good luck
If it won't mount in CWM you need to format it in your android phone, that fixed it for me. Once it is formatted correctly you'll see a notification that an SD card is installed. Also my PC wouldn't see it until I put a custom rom on. Also to store items on it you can use a file manager to move things to and from it.

The 8gb card did mount in CWM but would not mount in the OS, or when it would I would get it was unavailable or sometimes even empy when I know there is only about 1 gb free space, I did not test the 2gb in CWM mainly because it was late and I needed to go to bed, but I will try tonight. The 8gb is the one I updated to rooted 3.2 with, I still need to go to 3.2.1 ? Is there a rooted Stock 3.2.1 floating around I really havent looked much into it yet
I have noticed that getting the iconia to read some sd cards is like tossing dice..Most people who have this issue says one card works perfect in every device but not in the iconia.. Some say the card will work sometimes and not others .. Some say the card works in cwm and not with file manager..
The issue here i think is that you have two CARDS THAT ARE FUSSY ABOUT mating with the iconia. OR Your rom .i would read the threads in the rom you are using.. IF still nothing that sounds like your issue ask the DEV about this.. If STILL No luck you can either try to buy a new diffrent card or flash a new rom to try and Diag. this issue..
Good luck..
Silly question
Is your microSD formatted FAT32?
If it is anything else, your unit may have trouble reading it depending on what ROM you are using - Not all ROM's are capable of reading NTFS or other file systems.
Sometimes, microSD's freak out as well, and the only way to get it back to normal is to format it in a Symbian phone (Nokia)
Also, make sure you are using the correct mount point for the card - /mnt/external_sd - Root Explorer and other apps like it can get there.
Other than that, you may just have a bad microSD, I have had many of them die for seemingly no reason.

galaxy S4 microsd card problem

Hello
I have SanDisk 64gb microsd. I have not done anything to the phone and now periodically the phone stops reading the 64gb card .It does not say unmounted just when I check gallery the photos are not there and I have to restart the phone.
I have a rooted 4.3 ROM..The only thing I can think of is ES file explorer potentially caused issues. I noticed things acting weird after I used it when I do heavily.
Please help. Any and all advice welcome. Thanks
Tried to re flash a nandroid still issues. I noticed in general my touchwiz is running so slow. I flashed sacs red theme about a month ago. Not sure if that had anything to do with it. Should not have.
It will reread it when I remount it or reboot. Not sure specifically what is causing it though.

Have you tried searching the forums for sdcard fix? Google it? There have been issues with 4.4 and sdcard reading issues. Also downloading foldermount from the playstore has helped others with issues. If all else fails reinstall rom.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Free mobile app
I searched on Google and there is not really a concise answer as to why this happens. It is a very ambigious issue, however; it seems to be a reoccuring issue with SanDisk cards and 4.4 KitKat ROMs.
What I did was completely flush out and re-installed both custom recovery and my ROM to 4.2.2
It is disappointing because I really like my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone and you'd think upgrades mean better quality product when it has not. 4.4 KitKat ROM is not that good. I don't like both CM and TW versions of KK. One feature I do not like with TW KitKat is the inability to hide icons. There are also issues with battery drain and free hotspot mod.
I don't know what is going on. When I plug my phone into the computer I can access the SD card. When I check the phone it is not reading the SD card. Don't know what the problem is.
Have you tried a different SD card? That would help you determine if it is specific to the card or potentially a phone issue.
What I will do is try and format the SD card with the phone, then put everything back on. So far, I have isolated it to ESFile explorer. Initially I did not update the apk and thought that would work. It did not.
Here's what has happened:
I use ESFile explorer to access the SD card. Then when I went into clockworkmod, I tried to delete a nandroid copy I made. It says 'failed to delete'.
Then the ROM and sdCard do not work correctly anymore, so I have to wipe and re-flash an old nandroid.
Makes me wonder if something is corrupted in the SD Card. Everything used to work fine, but now whenever I access the SD Card with ESFile explorer, even the old version of it, it causes issue.
There is a problem with some Sandisk SD cards. Evidently there was a bad batch. I had some of the same issues. My card was bad. I went to Sandisk's website and they replaced it for free. I was without my card for a week but I got a new one and everything seems to be working fine now.
Can you explain how you did this ? So an update on my situation. I can read the sd card but it will not format and nothing can be written to the card. I tried using recovery and touchwiz to format and it fails.
Can access what is on there but cannot write or format anymore. Any ideas ? At this point I swapped to a new SanDisk card I had lying around. Don't know what to do with the old card

I assume you are asking me how I got my card replaced. I did some research and found the issue mentioned here on XDA as well as on the internet. I went to Sandisk's website, http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/list/kw/microsd microsdhc/, and did some more research. I finally contacted their customer service and they told me the process for getting the replacement shipped. If I were you I would just contact their customer service on their website and let them run you through the process.
