CyanogenMod 7 coming our way... (work in progress) - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

so just recently the HTC Universal got their phone up and running on CM7 by notime2d8

As some of you might or might not know, our phones are quite similar.
the Developer that made the HTC Universal version will be making some test versions for us to run in our Athena phones
Anyone willing to help feel free to check it out

Wow....I guess i really have to do it now that there's a post.
I must say though, that i'm only adding echo31's and ftoz's work to my kernel so all credit should go to them.
I don't have a x7500 to work with, only a x7510 so it might take a little longer to get android working on this.
So... without futher adieu my first test kernel for the athena. Link
You will need all the files on the root of your harddrive. Launch haret and let me know what happens.

i too also have the X7510
the only difference between these models are the storage devices, one is a mechanical 8or16GB HDD vs a 16GB flash disk
downloading the files as i type this... will be back later with the results

If that’s the case then this won’t work for you. On the Linux side there’re big differences between the two. The main thing being that there is a working driver for the X7500’s hard drive and the x7510 uses a 16gb SSD which we're not even close to getting to work in Linux yet.

can we use the External SD card as the hard drive instead?
then we only need to maintain 1 build that works for both devices.
here's what i got when it tried to load, it went pretty far

then it got stuck a long time waiting

ends with adb open blinking cursor
forgot the keyboard at home, so i can't test much without it.

I can do some tests but I hope not having to wipe the AGB 3.0.0 on my x7501 though (still have it as haven't sold it), but I have never heard that it can boot from SD at all, so it still would be initializing from the internal PROM and then pass on the boot onto the external SD if required.
I agree that a fast SD can match the performance with the MicroDrive, but both are not connected to the memory the same way?
This is surely very interesting indeed.

Yeah if possible could you follow the link and download the files i posted above and report back. Nothing should be erased from your phone. There is no working driver for the athena memory card slot yet, only a driver for the x7500 micro-drive and not the ssd in the x7510. I just thought about it though we could probably boot from a jumpdrive as usb host is working.

i can easily test that as well, from a jumpdrive
i have my original extension for multiport USB+mouse+keyb and video out, that came with the HTC Athena

ok!!! I'm in but how?

Were, how, and when do I meet these guys, and join them, to do the athena project 7

I have a 7500 and i'll be testing it today.
I'll tray to run some tests and report back as soon as possible.
If we can pull this one it would be like reviving an old friend.
Thank you guys for all the effort!!

Here's what i got so far..

I have a 7501 and can report the same result as AllGamer at this point.
Currently seems to be hung at "db_open adb find '/system/bin/sh'"...
And after the long wait, end state seems to be the same as reported by AllGamer as well.
"adb_open"

godspeed
This is great! I have been hoping for this. I still use my 7501 everyday (even as a phone) with WM6 limping along. I bet there a lot of users, iin addition to programing geniuses, watching this thread. good luck!

Whaouh, it's alive ^^
My x7500 is asleep, but i'd really like to see Android waking it up ! (bad english ?! )

Animo, mucho ánimo, yo tambien tengo HTC X7500. Gracias.

Yup i finally did it!!!!!
I hope everybody knows what these pics mean...
Ignore my workspace/bed in the background. My battery died after this...will post more info later.

Update...
So for the update nothing really works. The kernel is 3.3-rc4; only video out, usb host, and the disply work. Running cm7.2 from my jumpdrive.

That's already something!!! we're patiently waiting!!
Take your time!!!
our hope is everlasting!!!

very cool man , what root dev have youset in your startup txt i couldnt get any image booting at the moment , there is also an working flashdisk driver for linux availabel http://lwn.net/Articles/246158/ , the kernel is not from me its from this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46824008#post46824008

Database of currupted sd cards.

Due to the amount of cards dieing. I want to start a database of dead cards to see if there are any patterns. I would like to have: Brand, Capacity, and where it was made. (if you can think of any other important info, I'll add that as well)
Just post the info and I will keep the original post up to date with a list of failed cards.

Huh? I've been using the same 8GB MicroSD card, SanDisk, for a few months now. Always works the way it should, and I've reformatted almost as many times as I have hard reset, which is a bunch.
If you read through the android thread, there are a bunch of people who have had cards quit working. I'm wanting to see if it's a problem with cheap cards or if it is something else. I'm willing to bet it's just cheap cards that do not perform write leveling.

I think its also important to know cards that are working as well.
Mine's probably not a SDHC, which maybe why it seems to work so far.
Ive been using Android for 3-4 months without issue on my SD card
cheap manufacturing
That's my conclusion well partly, I've been trough many sd cards and brands mine's and my friend's (they always come to me when something goes wrong)
after using many cards from the same manufacturer I had one or the other fail for no apparent reason, always make sure never to pull a card out while it's doing some operation, never write the card to full capacity either, there's nothing said on that , but just to be safe, still they keep failing. one thing I've notice is that this is happening more frequently lately more often specially on the vouge phone with wm6,and of course the bigger capacity cards.
I have to agree on the poor manufactoring. I have seen a huge increase in dead flash memory products recently. (3 or 4 friends with flash drives and one with an sd card)
I have noticed a difference in where they are made though. The Japanese cards seem to be of higher quality. That's one of the reason I wanted to keep up with where they are made. None of the flash drives i've seen dead have been made in japan.
The poor quality will eventually catch up with them.

I think you're 100% on the money. It's hard to reproduce card corruption as it seems very random as far as the damage done, and frequency.
Most PDA users (myself included) load up an SD card with 3rd party software as apposed to internal storage which is somewhat limited in size. This leaves plenty of room for Program Memory and less hangups.
It only makes sense that piling software on the SD card will cause an increase in simultaneous reading / writing over a period of time. Removing an SD card while the PDA is running / or even idling could easily cause a corrupted card, depending on whether a piece of software was randomly accessing data on that card at the moment of removal.
Now what can be done to eliminate this problem?
We need to develop a simple "switch" to isolate the SD slot from communication while removing or swapping a card. Microsoft realized this issue with SD cards and developed a "Safely Remove Hardware" wizard from your desktop PC. I've never had problems with SD cards / flash sticks once I religiously used this wizard to and from my PC.
Could someone development savvy write this code for PDA's, since Microsoft didn't feel the need to incorporate this functionality onto their Windows Mobile environments. I wouldn't know where to start lol.
Anyone agree?

Camera relocation

I'm installing an HTC flyer in my car permanently where the radio would go (2DIN mounting), but kind of sad at the prospect of losing camera functions (video of dashboard interiors are boring).
So, what would be involved in removing the camera module and placing it somewhere else, as the dash for example? Would I just need to unsolder the camera module, solder on a whole bunch of cables, and connect them to the same contacts? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Alternatively, if a device has USB OTG capabilities, is there any way to make it talk to a regular USB webcam?
Discuss
Alot of research could go into what you're trying to do.......
However, I'd recommend just trying it and see what happens. Make sure your wires are all the same length.
So yeah.. In this situation, i think the Leroy Jenkins approach is appropriate.

PRICELESS!! lmao. @OP, awesome idea for the in dash flyer. Please post some completed pics!
have you thought about removing the camera from the back ad making "jumper cables" to put it up front? you might need something to make a housing for it to sit in the dash, but it would be better than writing a driver for it.

The thing is in adding(soldering?) 2 proper connectors to longer flex IMO, hard to do at home, but nothing is impossible. ^^
About OTG connecting - you'd probably use universal WebCam drivers from Ubuntu for eg. though the problem would be in powering that I think, WebCam has to be OTG compliant (with external power connector maybe?) or you'd need some special adapter, the rest is redirecting Android to use your webcam, but don't think it's hard comparing to other things.
I did this with a fascinate in my 87 BMW 325ic
I bought 2 extra cameras ( paid $16ea somewhere, cant remember off hand)
I failed at getting it to work myself as I suck at soldering.
However-
I had a friend take it into work and solder it in for me. We then took a light sensor from a 4th gen camaro , mounted it on my dash, ran the cam there, installed the phone and f-in-a . it was sweet.
this lasted for a full 3 weeks until something came undone and now the cam doesnt work. Ive switched back to the stock deck and just wired a bluetooth receiver into the tape deck, mounted a droid x down by the ashtray and it works. Not as great as what I had, but it works.
Point being, it can be done. and its pretty sweet when done right.
grab fried boards from ebay and start from there.
Wait some more weeks, cotula is developing usb host mode driver, and he has developed a working driver. Its for android. It will be available soon to public when he corrects the errors.
So u can simply plug in an usb cam to ur phone( providing only external power supplay is needed.) So u can do it with out bricking ur phone. Till then use it as a phone..

Bricked Galaxy S3 Experience [Now its working perfectly]

My Indian Friend gave me this phone No power,
It has response on Power supply when i trigger the Power Switch button, so i thought
there is something wrong with the boot or program.
My Jtag tools (medusa, riff, ort, etc) are no use since when i search the net and read about S3 jtag, i read this thing is not
open on s3 and all my tools doesnt support this phone yet. So i decided to do the Sdcard tricks on reviving Dead phones.
I always have Failed to copy error. I read E.V.A'S contribution post related to S3. He gave me a lot of information about this phone.
After 2 days of software trouble shooting i Decided to check the phones mobo and check every part of it.
when i look in the microscope i found out that I'm not the first to repair this phone.
I decided to change the IC (the tampered one). The IC with the red mark.
But it doesnt help.

I dont know what this location jumper means
but out of curiousity I just try to remove it.
This phone has a bypass on EU location. I leave the 3 Location open.
When i inserted the battery
IT TURN ON!
hahaha
I know those location are not related with the power )
Its just happen or its my lucky day
I just want to tell a story about my experience on Bricked SIII
This is not a first time I recieved Dead S3
But most of them were not related to Software Issue so it can be easily fix.
What is the purpose of that 3 location jumper?
I did try to install different location, different language it doesnt affect the phones functionality.
I know samsung wont put it on the board without purpose but what is the purpose of that thing?

I wonder what happens if you didn't replaced the IC and you just take the jumper off? Would it still be fixed?
Anyways this is Great Find! Might be helpful to ones experiencing SDS?

Use #### dual sim + micro sd #### at the same time (with glue)!

Hey Mi Lover and other engineers!
You must deal with this problem have
The solution is simple
Without using special equipment
Only the amount of glue!
You must do the following steps in order to get the correct result
1- Pull out the metal part of the SIM card with razor blade

2- Stick SIM card with amount of glue! (just a little!)
attention:
1- This work is very delicate so cut the around of sim card carefully with razor. (careful dont cut ur hand )
2- dont use amount of glue to stick sim card to sd card. (if u use a lot of glue the height of sd card will be increase and u cant placed sim's slot!
3- It's better use 3G sim card to do it (the IC's are smaller than 4G) if you use 4G press and smash edge of sim card to sleep on the sd card!
4- and last guidance is use 128gig smartphone it's difficult way if u are impatient!
Press "Thanks" if this article was useful
Thanks, tried with 4g sim and 64gb sandisk and works well. Used for 2 weeks now without any trouble.
Only the problem is I managed to put them in... it was hard to do so as it was thicker 4g sim. I used little force.
Now I worry how will I get them out (haven't tried yet)
Edit: After another week I tried to pull sim tray out and it came out ok.
Don't try this, I ruined my SD card as well as the SIM card. This works great, why take the risk?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nano-SIM-Ca...677615?hash=item4b0faf0d2f:g:WlwAAOSw5cNYgc~V
Well I have broken two sim cards when trying to install this way, all was in pretty good visual condition (not so ugly as above) and fits perfectly in the bed with sd card. Seems that sim card is very sensitive to any pressure when is "naked", but this extender is maybe some ugly solution.
The extender fits in my (flip cover) case without any problem and so the SIM card is very well hidden, you can't see or feel it. If you only use a silicon case you will slighty feel a little bump where the SIM card is attached.

I don't know, on my Mi Max I'm still on Android 7 (using GlobeROM). On my Samsung Note 7 however, I'm using a custom ROM on Android 8 in which this option of simultaneously using 2SIM & SD was made available again (I thought Samsung had blocked this option, but it seems Android 8 is doing that...). So, I guess developers might know how to bypass this.

Hi there,
Emmc read failure is definitly a hardware error. Emmc is the flashmemory of your phone. At the moment many not4 's are suffering from this error, especially the ones produced in 2014. The problem will get worse over time with your phone : freezes, reboots, laggy,.....
I had the same problems with my phone. It started in the summer of 2016 with the random rebooting, then the phone got very laggy and the the freezing began. the only solution is to replace the mainboard with a new one. You can find them on aliexpress or ebay. On youtube you can find a tutorial for the replacement. I did it myself and it is not difficult.

I'm hesitant to buy another phone (I'd like Lg V20) or repair this one because the lowest cost of motherboard is about 150Eur + tools.
Now I can keep on to use this phone and the lags aren't frequent but if you want to load sone apps or you want type on keyboard and you need that it appears often that is slow..and I don't know if it is related at mmc failure..

My friend is welcome! Classic note 4(n910f) defective club
According to the prediction, the majority of note 4 from preloaded 5.1.1 will make this fault.
But as I said it is a guess. I think the 2nd party note 4 is entering this group.
When it comes to the problem of
No more trusting the phone from now on. It will freeze and random restarts will increase.
I have been engaged in debrick note 4 for a very long time in the forum and got workarounds.
But the inevitable end will happen.
Soon the phone will not open normally
So that the power button will not work
With Odin or with the smart switch, the stock rom can not be loaded and the EMMC error will increase.
Use as much as you can. Get a backup phone.
I've had this problem until I change the motherboard.
But I am not satisfied at all. There are other problems.
I do not do too many custom ROM tests anymore.
Good luck...
