Please help. Background. I rooted it and had it set up to work on Cricket. Well I like the latest rom so I attempted to update it to a different rom. First one wouldn't boot so I was able to get into Clockwork mod and load a saved original version back. Then i tried flashinf the Rumm rom and now when I start it it immediately goes to the Rumm screen and stays there. I can't figure out how to get into the Clockwork menu agiain and it wont boot up. I can press camera down volume and power and get it into the bootloader. But I have no idea what to do from there. I am new to the droid X but I was successful with the HTC Hero. but this is new.
Thanks for any help

Looks like you'll want to SBF the device. Google search on how to SBF the Droid X and you should come up with some really good guides. Make sure you flash to 2.3.320 if you want to use the latest and greatest that Team Defuse has to offer. I would post a link to one of the guides, but I'm away from my computer today.

I have rsd lite and SHADO_X6_2.3.34_SYSTEM-ONLY.sbf I open the RSD and choose the sbf file but RSD doesn't find the phone. there are drivers loaded says Motorola Flash Interface v. 3.2.5.0. I have it in the bootloader says ok to program transfer mode usb. Thoughts
Thanks
Windows 7 64bit pro gives some difficulty with recognizing the phone. I suggest removing the motorola drivers and downloading them again.
I got it to work by plugging my phone in, then installing the drivers immediately after. It is screwy sometimes though.
Also RSD has device ID options. change that and see if it recognizes it. I also find that sometimes if I plug in my phone after RSD is open it finds it.
wow this has been a long process. after not able to get the phone to get recognized on Win7 I moved everything to my win xp comp. while it was in the provess of creating the image file ( took like an hour) the battery on my phone died. So I am charging the phone still. it's still creating a image file. Hope I can resume once phone is charged. I am not sure why the phone doesn't chrge while plugged into the USB port but ok. Thanks for the ideas so far. Will update later

FYI it shouldn't take over an hour to create image. I flashed the .320 SBF 2 days ago and the whole process from start to finish was under 10 minutes.
Also, I don't believe it charges when in bootloader mode. You could power it via USB if necessary (involves stripping a USB cable). I've never done it but there are various tutorials. I'll look around.

See code corrupt error section.
The easiest option is to charge your battery in another X.

yes I charged the phone to 100% and tried again and again the battery died before it finished. the sbf file I have is 280 Mb. If there is a smaller one then maybe it will work
It's more likely that the SBF file you have is bad or there is still some sort of USB driver issue going on. Try downloading it again from wherever you got it.
The phone should not go from 100% to dead in an hour. Also the SBF flash shouldn't take nearly that long.
for now I am stuck. I can't get the phone to charge the battery any more. When I plug the phone into the wall it just goes to the bootloader screen by its self and has an error number and a message that the battery is low. So I ordered some batteries with a wall charger. Once those arrive I will try again. thanks for all the help you guys are giving me. update later date
Guys,
First of all, hello to all! So, I followed a tutorial to install Froyo on my Defy. Now I'm stuck with my phone trying to boot as soon as i put the battery on, but it never makes it past the "M". I can get into recovery. I wiped data, cache and tried to install the "update.zip" but it aborts saying "signature verification failed." I have the boot file (that was the next step) to install using RSDlite 4.9 but the phone is not even recognized any of my USB ports. Any ideas? Thanks to all in advanced.
press volumn up buton and power button on boot , once you saw the backlit is on , release the button , you will see the rsd litle showing your usb .
dont worry . i think it is your first time to use RSD only
yea i been through that ( doesnt work on vista )
you need to install rsd lite and 2.51 UK Firmware ( no usa )
google it and you will find it or on this forum
install usb driver from motorola webiste
install rsd lite
put uk firmware in ... C drive/ program files / motorola / rsd lite
install driver
If your phone is stuck on " M " then pull battery out
turn on and quicky press power + vol up ( i think ) before M even appear
wait till it say your boot loader and your battery
plug phone in
start rsd lite
on ... look up your uk firmware that you you recently put in rsd lite folder
then you should see your phone connected on the 1 slot
then hit start or something and wait it out .
Thanks guys! But I've been messing around with this thing for so long, I drained the battery. I had to run it up to the local phone store to get it charged. I'll pick it up in a couple of hours and give your advice a try.
Hey guys! it worked! I'm up and running. Now, anyone has a link to bypass this Welcome to Motoblur screen. Is there a Custom Froyo or Gingerbread Rom out there without Motoblur?
Alright... I'm up and running, but no camera!!! Heck, it was a learning experience. I guess I'll go back to 2.1 now. LOL
So the Chinese ROM was rooted. I installed Clockworkmod and restored from the backup i had made of the original 2.1 OS. I'm back to a rebooting phone not making it past the "M" I went back to RSDlite and realized the boot file said 2.2 only. Can anyone assist me finding the right one to go back to original. I haven't been able to find a thread about reverting back to original.
The more I read, the smarter I get seems like the only thing I'm missing here is the SBF file for my original T-Mobile OS. I'm looking at the motorola website, but I can't find it. Can anyone point me to it? Thanks all! Oh yeah, this is the first android phone i mess with so my apologies.
There is no us sbf file. You have to flash a uk version and restore 3g with the posted fix. You can find the links to available sbf files on this forum. They are not available thru moto's site.

Just to make sure I got it right. After using clockworkmod to restore to my factory backup, I need to use the UK sbf to be able to boot to it. Correct?
I found the sbf for Central Europe with no Motoblur. Does anyone know of any issues with it?
well the only way to fix this if you previously backed up your rom/files with recovery ( good thing i did this ). If not then you have to live with what you got.
I backed up my original firmware using clockworkmod. I flashed to the Chinese 2.2 but my camera didn't work. Since the camera is important to me, the Chinese Froyo was a deal breaker. I installed clockworkmod again and "recovered" from my original backup but now my defy won't boot. Did I miss a step?
Your data from the backup may cause issues when rolling backwards. Install an eclair sbf, then restore. That worked for me.
On another note there is a fix for the camera. Check the forums.

Just try and install the Motorola Drivers in your desktop and open RSDLite and press 'show devices' button. It will surely show the details of your phone.
Then point RSDLite to the stock SBF and flash away.

If you hear the USB plugged in sound in your Pc, it's a messed up driver installation. If you don't hear the sound, it can be a bad cable, or a faulty microusb port (assuming that your pc usb works fine). Try once in a different pc and with a different microusb cable.

I think I stuck in boot loop. When I try to power on the phone, it just shows CM7 boot logo for few seconds then restarts again shows the boot logo... this happens continually. When I try to enter into recovery, it does not go to CWM recovery instead it goes to stock recovery. I am still able to enter into boot loader. In boot loader, it says battery OK connect USB to program. When I connect USB, it is recognized by phone and says transfer mode: USB. But my PC does not shows up the phone.
I tried re-installing drivers and RSDlite many times but no luck. But I have nandroid backup of CM7. Is there any possibilities to enter into CWM recovery?
Any help is appreciated.
Edit:
I tried even different USB cables and PCs also.
So a couple days ago I installed MIUI to my phone. Everything went great, it booted successfully and worked for 2 days or so, until i accidentally let the battery die (not sure if this is related to the problem or not). Since this day, it wont charge or turn on while connected to the wall. When it is connected to the wall, it starts the screen and show a big battery with a question mark inside. I tried a friends battery and it gets stuck at the M logo. The only thing i can access now is the stock recovery screen. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks

1.Download RSD Lite
2.Download the stock .sbf file for your device
3.Use your friends battery and boot into bootloader by holding Power+Volume Down+Camera button
4.Open RSD Lite, choose the .sbf file you downloaded, connect your phone to pc with usb cable and flash it.
If your pc doesn't reckognize your phone, you'll have to download and install the latest motorola milestone 2 usb drivers.
Ok. So i tried to apply the sbf file, but as soon as the process starts, RSDLite says under the status area "Phone[0000]:Creating Image File." and it wont get thru this. Any ideas?
Maybe try sbf_flash on linux?
Will the sbf_flash work the same on the mac? Or should they work differently on mac and linux? I tried it earlier today and i got stuck at some part i cant remember...I'll recharge the battery with a universal charger that i found (cause it's saying its too low to program) and try it again tomorrow, so i just wanna be sure that i can do it on the mac...
Thanks
It should work same way. OS X version is just port from the linux version.
You have to run RSDlite as an administrator. Right click on RSD.exe or RSDlite.exe not shure what's the exe file named and Run as administrator.
br Zola
having the same problem
after flashed MIUI/CM7
the battery died then the phone cant boot to desktop
tried RSD Lite, flash failed lol
Tried to run RSD as administrator. Still stuck at the same point.
Tried sbf_flash, stuck at 'waiting for phone:'.
I'll try to download the sbf file again, just in case it is corrupted.
Any other ideas?
PS.: I'm running rsd on VMWare, could this be the problem??
Dunno how exactly works USB bridge in VMWare, but rsd on pure (not virtualised) system is worth a try. Also - are you sure, your battery is charged? I know, that if your phone can't boot, the battery will not charge via USB - you should use universal charger or somebody here recommended (and successfully repaired MS2 this way) put contacts directly on the battery to charge it little (just for RSD flash).
I charged it on a charger that you put the battery directly into the contacts. I'm sure that it is charged cause 1) the led display on the charger says so and 2) when i get to bootloader mode to apply sbf, it says 'Battery OK / OK to program' , and before i charged it, it would say: "battery too low, cant program", or something like that.
I'll try to get a windows pc and try to apply the sbf
Thank you guys.
I was trying to flash it with a sbf that was on a pendrive. All i did was transfer the file to the HD and flashed it via RSDLite, using VMWare.
Now my phone is working again.
Thank you very much to everyone that helped me
Hi Guys,
I got into a problem here, and I need help! I have a milestone 2 with the latest Endlees CyanogemMod, Android 2.3.7.
I was trying to follow the steps into using the internal memory as a SD card (link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948887), but I wasn't successful.
Here cames what I did:
First I tried to follow the steps:
1- create a file image in /data and a folder in /sdcard
mkdir /sdcard/storage
su
dd if=/dev/zero of=/data/storage.img bs=1024 count=5242880 (1024x1024x5 --> 5Gb)
busybox mkfs.vfat /data.storage.img
But that didn't work, the terminal emulator just said that the directory couldn't be found.
Then I downloaded Busybox from Android Market, and installed it. But when I executed the program, the installation wasn't done because it was insisting that Busybox wasn't able to access the folder, and didn't have superuser access to root. Even with the permission on Superuser OK!
So after that, I tried to reboot my milestone 2, and now it won't even get to the boot screen of android (screen with the rotating square)
I tried to use the boot recovery tool, and wipe all system data, and reboot, mas it isn't working. Something I noticed on Recovery Tool is that apear a messagem saying "E: Can't Open /cache/recovery/command" and "E: Can't Open /cache/recovery/caller.
Even the battery light won't turn on. If turn off the cell and try to recharge it, appears a image of the battery with a "?" on it... I tried to connect the cellphone to the PC with the usb cable, but it isn't recognized...
I hope someone can help me, I just can't afford to lose this phone.... Thanks
Look in this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344740 it should help you solve this problem
in general: firstly you need to charge your battery in another working Milestone 2 or in some universal battery charger (because bricked Milestone 2 is not able to charge battery) and then you need to flash SBF and it should be ok

I read somewhere else that even if the MS 2 is bricked the battery charges. Very very slowly, but it charges.
thanks for your tip... I read the entire topic, but there is a problem. My battery must be around 30% or something, but when a connect the milestone 2 with the pc via usb cable, the lateral light won't even lit... And the pc won't even recognize it...
edit: when I connect the cellphone to the pc, the light lit for 30s more or less, the appear the Motorola logo with the rabbit on the side, but then the light turn off and I get stuck in the same situation...

I don't know, maybe it is possible, but I as far as I know, everyone, who had bricked M2, charged the battery outside his phone...
So he can try it in the bricked phone, but he can't be 100% sure it will charge, right?

Yes, thats why I said here and even in the topic I referred to, you have to charge battery in another non-bricked Milestone 2 or in universal battery charger. When your M2 is bricked, it wont charge any battery (or maybe it will, but very very slow according to carpet55's post ).
So now you have to get some universal charger or working M2 (or another battery).. This is your step no. 1. Then you can flash it via RSDLite by SBF file.
ok Anonymous_!
I'm going to find a way to charge the battery and do what are you saying.
But RDS Lite can flash the android even if windows it isn't recognizing the cell phone on the usb?
thanks again! I'll return with more info when I get my battery fully charged..
After you will have charged battery, you will have to boot into bootloader by holding Power+Volume Down+Camera button, then windows should recognise it (maybe you will have to install drivers too) and then you can use RSDLite (don't forget to run it with administrator rights).
Anonymous_,
final question of the day... Where do I get the SBF file?
I'm from Brazil, so should be the brazillian version of this link?
and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2
You are on the right path
Grab Brazil 2.2 version from http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2 and it should be ok.
I can confirm that no, the battery does not charge when bricked. I left mine going for over 24 hours and nothing -_-. So ended up using a universal ac adapter set to 5 volts and some wires directly to the + and -. This didn't work after half an hour so I upped it to 7v and about ten minutes later, all good.
During my research to find how to fix it, someone was saying the charge sequence software in in the system or boot data, and since it was all corrupt - no charge.
But you perhaps allready have enough juice in there to load up bootloader successfully, so try what anon said and hold d-pad up and power on until the screen flashes blackish grey and let go. Then it'll tell you if the battery has enough charge to flash a sbf

Hi everyone,
today I've solved my problem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567301), but my recovery...is brake! When I boot into recovery, there is an exclamation point...I can wipe data/cache and use zip file from sd. Stop...nothing else!

I think you're in stock recovery. What you need is install 2nd-init for the custom recovery and all it's features onboard...
Thanks for your reply!
I've tried to install 2nd-init (the stable, not the latest) and all it's ok...if I restarted my phone e try to enter to recovery mod, I see an Android BootMenu ( ) and I can choose stock recovery and custom recovery. If i start the custom it retunr this message:
Code:
Start Custom Recovery...
E:Can't run /system/bootmenu/script/recovery.sh (No such file or directory)
So confused....
Something braked with che CM9 kernel? If I start the stock recovery...I see the imaged attached in this post.
Boot normally into CM9. Open 2nd init and uninstall Bootmenu, then re-install bootmenu but chose "Latest - 1.0.7", not "Stable - 0.6.7"
Boot menu 1.0.7 is available with latest Sndinit2.0 version, get that sol from dev section and then install boot menu.

Thanks to everyone!
Now I'n with the 1.0.7...I have the same image on the recovery this is strange!
I've tried to flash with che CM9, but the install aborted with this message:
Code:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
EDIT: the same error with my CM7.2
I'm coming from a 7.2 NIGHTLY (cm72-120127.0846-NIGHTLY-Defy+). I've tried to install the CM9 from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432100 (I've used the Quarx rom). After this my Defy+ wan unable to boot (black screen). After a few of stock rom I'm back to the default rom (the spanish version, not the italian...it doesn't work ). I would like to flash the CM9, but first I think there is a problem with the recovery...why it displayed the image with the alert? Another question...with the CM7 my recovery have got a lot of option...now I've: reboot/apply update from sd/wipe data/factory reset/wipe cache. Is it normal?
What the hell I've done?
Most likely you're trying to flash unsigned ZIPs and the recovery wants signed ones, or trying to flash what should be extracted as "backup" and restored. You can turn off signature checking in recovery, if you know that you're flashing correct ZIPs and they're unsigned.
The stock recovery ALWAYS displays an image with the alert, because you can NEVER change it, until Defy bootloader will be unlocked (if it'll ever happen). Nothing strange about it.
I was able to use recovery and I tried to reinstall the CM9, but now my phone looks dead! No boot, no boot error, no recovery...nothing! Black screen. If I plug the phone to my pc...RDS Lite does't recognized the Defy. I would try to flash the sbf and come back to the 7.2 NIGHTLY...but how?
Damn...I'm so sad for this I'm hope there is a workaround...

Did you press vol up and power??! You need to go to program mode for RSD lite to recognise your phone! It may have been that you flashed CM9 for Defy instead of CM9 for Defy+!! By no recovery do you mean you can't go even to stock recovery?!(Sounds almost impossible!)
Power and Vol+/Vol- doesn't work for me. Only the white led (charging status) works if I plug the usb cable to my pc. RDS

Normally these steps are followed to flash SBF:
1.) go to bootloader mode (Vol up + power button. That's the program mode I was talking about)
2.) Now RSD lite will recognise your phone.
3.) Flash from RSD lite.
Are you saying that Vol up + power button = nothing happening in your phone? Not even black screen with
Bootloader .... blah blah
USB
Battery OK
Ready to program
????
If that's the case:
1.) Battery not charged.
2.) Go claim warranty!
Yes...this case! I know the bootloader screen
Code:
Bootloader .... blah blah
USB
Battery OK
Ready to program
but this time nothing...
Mhh...maybe the battery is near the 0% and the usb from a pc doesn't charge the phone? The led is white...but nothing. Maybe with the AC power?

Charge your battery... In another Defy phone, NOT McGyver method as many have already fried their batteries, using this trick!
I don't have another Defy for try this! I will try tonight at home, with the other cable connected directly to AC, and not to my pc. I hope it's work
No matter what cable you will try. At the moment your phone is not charging the battery. In order to start charging, you need to reflash it. And in order to reflash it, you need to get your battery charged... Sweet, ha? Get a buddy with a Defy to charge your battery and then reflash the phone.

It worked like charm, battery is fine, i was able to flash a new rom...
One Usb-Cable "broken" but well who cares.
But if you try it, you need to be very very veeery careful.
Friend of mine is Hifi-Electrician and i had a little help from him, for testing which wires are the right ones to connect.
You have to be aware, that this could kill your battery and you need to buy a new one.
But once, everything is connected the right way, you also need to know that there is no safety or fuse or whatever, that safes your battery, so dont put it on too long, in my case, it took about 5 to ten minutes for 50-70% of battery, so dont let it be connected too long.
And one last thing, make sure, that there is no possibility for the cables to hit any other connector(?) on the battery, use some kind of tape, to make them stay in there position.
If your still willing to try this, good luck to you, as I say, this works. I dont know which MC Guyver you like to try, but i would recommend the batterycharge only, so not connected to the phone, version.
But think about this docking station too, its way more comfortable, easier, less dangerous, and amazon is really fast in shipping, so it would probaply just take 1-2 days.
I fuound this in the forum

I think it's the best way...or not?
Thanks
EDIT: can I use the usb cable from a pc? Or I need to plug the cable directly into the AC power?
