My SG2 screen glass broke and I was thinking to replace the glass lens only as the LCD and digitizer work perfectly, is there a tutorial or advice how to do it?
Thanks in advance

Yes there is but you'll have to use the search function to find it yourself.
I have searched without luck.
The closest I found was this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342115&highlight=replace+glass
Its easy to do if your up to the job if so may well be cheaper buying a full house with screen $10 or so on ebay once a gain search...

Thanks, I have read them already.
All searches are related to replace the all LCD (glass LCD Digitizer), I would like to know whether somebody has managed to change the glass lens only.

Yes the they have if I find it I'll post but like I said it cheaper to get a new full housing and screen and replace this way. As you need to warm the screen with a hot gun on med heat or hair dryer to release it from the bond around the housing..
And hot gun/ hair dryer needed to heat screen when replace but make sure soundring arean is clean..

I posted in another thread about the issue of digitizer being glued to lcd. I had more pics to show, and decided disassembled pics are useful to all! So new thread for full set! If you want more I can get more! If I get enough questions I might make a tutorial for dis assembly.

Fixed problem!
OH NO!! what HAVE U done!!!
I know...The horror...I haven't re-assembled to see if still working...HA!
I disassembled because of a cracked digitizer.
looks like a fur or "plastic" carpet, hope you don't end up with ESD related problems
ESD as in ElectroStatic Discharge ^^
Phone still works just fine.
If anybody knows how to un-solder the digitizer away from the lcd, help would be appreciated!

Next up:
digitizer/lcd separation
any updates?
Have you managed to fix it yet?
We all want you to succeed so we can operate on our own cracked ones! Maybe you need the "unglue" chemical - you know, like superglue has an antiglue for reversing it's stickiness. If you could find out what glue bonded it, then a specialist adhesive supplier probably knows how to reverse it.
I'm sure you'll like this (if it isn't posted here before...)

Still not clear, has he finally removed the lcd on that video from the digitizer? to me it looks they're still cemented

Well if they're cemented (hopefully with some hyper-glue), thats a GOOD thing. Then this will be (hopefully) my first device with NO dust under the glass.
Don't you people have insurances on your devices? Talk to the ensurance company and you will get a new device for a small excess - that is, if it's beyond repair

its not ... I have dust under the displayglass.
Floatheavy, and everyone else.
I'm currently on my second HD2, first suffered a hairline crack on the digitizer and it went COMPLETELY unresponsive. After getting the second, I had nothing to loose and disassembled the first. I got everthing apart up to the LCM, this module has everything (the glass digitizer, the LCD and the backlight) all cemented together. As I took the phone apart, priodically I would test that it still worked - everything except the digitizer. When I tried to separate the digitizer from the LCD and baclight I ended up tearing the layers of the LCD apart, now one layer is still glued to the digitizer and one is still glued to the backlight. I have yet to see how this can safely come apart and untill I can buy the LCD the phone is totaly screwed. I think one has to purchase an entire LCM and not just the digitizer.
For those that want to try separating the digitizer - BEWARE, noone seems to have found the secret yet! If I manage to discover something new I'll post.
Yeah. I tried the heat method to separate the digi from the LCD...
No luck
It seems it is more than the simple adhesive broken down by heat.
To get the bezel away from the LCM you can use heat to make easier, but to get the digitizer away from the LCD itself remains a mystery to me.
Anybody get any other results?
OKAY..
Pics updated again...
I was able to get the digitizer apart from the LCD, using a razor.
for separate lcd and digitizer
For separate lcd and digitizer, I used nylo fisher string... and it work good... just right my problem is how to past new one ? neopren glue ?
Honestly, I plan on just adding a dot of super glue to each corner.
I believe most phone adhesives are a sylicon based glue.
It`s almost impossible to un-solder the digitizer away from the lcd, i have succeeded a few times whit hot air and very sharp cutter, but still broke 2 screens from 5...it has to be a solution for this...anyway 3 phones from 5 its not the best rate...
Has anyone successfully replaced the digitizer for our phone?
Any site you'd recommend? Any video or instructions you used?
I remember coming across a few posts where after replacing the digitizer it didn't work.
So I'm just trying to find someone who has successfully done it.
Thanks.
*bump anyone?
are you sure you want to try replacing the digitizer? as far as i know mt4g's screen is something like S-LCD (or may be true S-LCD) which mean the LCD are very very close with the digitizer.
when you decide to replace the digitizer you should make sure you can replace it precisely. no dust left behind and so on.
i think it is better to buy a set of assembled front bezel, LCD and digitizer. so you just replace the front area of the phone.

here, very easy to replace :

or if you want only digitizer+lcd assembled just search it on ebay.

Awesome thanks bro.
I have replaced a few digitizers on mytouch 4g's. A trick to keep dust out is to get the adhesive strips and put it around the side of the digitizer too so you seal around the frame.
how difficult is it to replace it?
I'm thinking about doing that but read many comments about cracking the digitizer...
so , should I try it or should I just give up and live with that little crack?

It's not just the hazard of breaking the digitizer...the result would not be that same as before. Initially the gorilla glass is glued together with the digitizer and the replacement is most probably a cheap plastic, that cannot have the same feeling nor the same response

I believe I bought an original replacement from UK ...
question is how complicated is this procedure and if by hitting the device screen so much I can harm the digitizer or some other internal parts...
It's difficult to do it without proper tools. Putting the new screen on the digitizer is also difficult.
But if you have experience in these kind of thing, then you can do it.

what tools are those?
got a heat gun and plastic spudgers ... it came as a kit with the glass I bought
A UV light to set the glue is best. Makes it more responsive.

There isn't any genuine glass replacement as I was informed by Samsung Greece. Officially they only replace the glass WITH the digitizer.

There are some people that they use this glue (without it, the responsivness after some time is decreased a lot ) but the problem is that they use too much and at the points that the UV light hasn't reached it is still liquid and can go everywhere
Hi All,
Broke my glass + digitizer, but lcd ok. Got a replacement and managed to separate the original lcd, what I'd like to know is do I really need to glue the lcd to the new digitizer? I've put it back together just loose for the time being and seems to look and work fine. Any risks to just glueing the digitizer/screen to the frame and leaving the lcd loose inside?
Also, I still have glue gunk on the lcd screen, I've ordered some "151 sticker remover" to get rid of it, but it occurred to me it might damage it. Anyone know if it would be ok? If not anything else recommended, maybe something I could make at home?
Thanks!

Thanks, on closer inspection I htink my colours are a little washed out without the glue, so am just going to go ahead and do it.
I got my digitizer off ebay, interestingly I see the ones on ebay in India are twice as expensive though, I would have thought they'd be cheaper. I'd recommend just getting a digitizer and lcd in one though. Like this one:
ebayDOTin/itm/For-LG-E960-Google-Nexus-4-E960-LCD-Display-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Black-/121465367279?pt=IN_Mobile_Accessories&hash=item1c47e66aef
Costs twice as much, but it's much easier to install; you don't need to buy as many tools, UV glue and gunk remover. Plus there's a high chance of breaking the lcd when separating it from your broken screen, so you could well end up having to buy both anyway.
I read something about the replacement lcds being lower quality though, I don't know how noticeable that would be, but if you pay with paypal you'd probably be able to get your money back.

The link is dead. But i guess the product refers to complete front panel of phone. I did same thing. The panels are China made. The quality is no where close to original. I suggest you to not buy it online. You should go to mobile repair store and ask them to do it. The reason is the panels are faulty and if so then they will quickly replace it. I did couple of time after which got a better one.
I broke my OPT screen when I dropped the phone. I ordered a replacement screen on ebay and disassembled the OPT using videos I found on the internet. The OPT was relatively easy to take apart.
The replacement screen arrived. When trying to place the replacement screen into the frame, I noticed that it lacks the glue on the edge of the screen to attach to the frame.
Any ideas on how I can attach the replacement screen on to the frame? Is there any glue that I can buy? Or will regular glue like super glue(permanent glue) work? Just don't want to risk damaging the replacement screen.
Any ideas?

Thanks for your reply. Anything in particular that you recommend? A link will help me.
If I order online its going to take alteast a week to ship and receive it. There is some urgency to fix my phone. I need to fix it up before an upcoming trip on this Sunday.
What will happen if I use superglue to attach the screen to the frame? Will it damage the screen?

I'm sure what kind to look for but they are all over eBay and for superglu I'm not sure what will happen but I'm sure there a reason why they don't use it in the first place
Hello all, I went to a local store that repairs phones. I asked to if they would sell double sided tape and offered to pay a nominal fee. They were kind enough to give me a few and at no charge. With this I have put back my phone in working order.

Sorry, have not been on xda in a while. I paid about 25 USD on ebay.
Its pretty easy to replace. Takes a lot of patience.
Since the thread has been revived already, I'll drop in my $0.05 since I just replaced my screen last week
* The assembly/disassembly is fairly easy following video tutorials, it's not even necessary to remove all parts if you're careful with the heat.
* Remember to move the fingerprint sensor, the glued-on touch buttons and the phone speaker cover on top to the new screen.
* As always, you need to be patient when heating and ungluing the old screen from the frame (luckily it's glued only on the borders).
* I got my screen from aliexpress just under $20. Couldn't find any difference between it and the original one.
* As previous posters said, do not use any cyanoacrylate glues (superglue, etc), they leave white stains on the glass.
* I was also surprised by no glue on the frame I didn't have time to order adhesive strips, used a really thin layer of silicone adhesive, worked well and there are no gluing signs.

It certainly looks the same, both internally and running on the phone, compared to my gf's OP2 which still has the original screen.
I bought this one, but I guess all the aliexpress screens are the same
I dropped my phone too sadly. Contacted the local repair centre and they said I do need to replace outer screen and the digitizer. And the process is more than $100 if I convert it.
In Alixpress just about $5 for the outer screen. Do I need to replace both or just the outer screen?

I don't think changing just the glass is a good idea, I think there was video of a guy trying and braking everything. Just like the guy before said buy a screen for $20 and follow a guide. I also broke mine, but ordered a screen + frame for $50 because I thought it would be easier to just move the hardware.
