Limited widget list problem - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I recently put a new ROM on my phone and some reason my widget list is very limited.
I've installed about 5 clock widgets, but only fancy widgets has appeared on my widget list. I can open the program files for the others but they aren't on my widget list so can't use them.
The problem is not limited to clocks widgets.
Any help is much appreciated.
I have searched around but couldn't find anything with the words I used.

Even an app so I can have a big digital clock on my home screen would help.

bump bump bump

any help, ideas, explanations or even reasons why I should just reinstall would help.

Are the widgets on the internal memory of the phone? Widgets (and I assume launchers but I don't know) have to be on the internal storage in order to be used. Go to settings>manage applications>whichever widget you want>move to internal storage if this is not the case. Hope I helped

Such a simple solution. Thanks for that, I'll make sure to set it to install everything on my phone from now on.

No problem Although quite a lot of apps work when on SD as well, so you may want to move the big apps (e.g. Angry Birds) to the SD.

Try installing from SD to phone and vice versa.
However installing everything on the phone, is not always the solution!

I'll keep games on the SD and everything else on internal. If things don't work from now on I'll atleast do this simple fix before posting.

Ppictures and ads popping out in my screen

Hi,
After downloading few free applications in my hero, some pictures and ads started popping out every few seconds in my screen. Mostly pictures of the Android depiction doing some stuff like eating or visiting places like Paris and stuff. Also, some advertisement to download videos.
How can I stop this from happening? Is there a virus scanner or a spam blocker I can use?
Please help.

Can't you just go into market and uninstall the apps you added?
Failing that, connect via adb and use adb shell to remove the apk files (presuming you're rooted).
If you aren't rooted or don't know about adb, ask or search. There are antivirus things available, but I'd just remove the apps.
Also, if you find the offending app, post its name here so others can avoid it (only if you find out which one).

Thank you for your reply.
Well, I was not sure which program installed this thing in my phone, so I un-installed all software that I downloaded. However, that did not resolve the issue. I still have the same problem.
Any advice?
Thank you..

Backup your contacts and other important media and factory reset the device maybe?
Thats a bit of a worry this! Not to scare you or anything, but that sounds like some form of virus/hijacking/trojan or something!
Why not install a "task killers" application and see if you can kill a particular process that is showing those ads.
If you find the right one, it might give you some indication what application created it - but do let us know if you do find out!
Or you can just write down the list of installed apps on your Hero here and then someone can take a look at the list?
Thank you guys. I found the problem, and it was due to the installation of a scientific calculator from the free market. Once I removed it, things went back to normal.
many thanks.
Do you fancy naming and shaming the app? Then no-one else will have to go through this again. Oh, and make sure you give it 1* and a negative comment on the market.
Perhaps we need an 'apps wall of shame' for any apps that do things such as this... Then we could look up any apps before downloading if they looked suspicious.

You might give us the name of the app so that others can get a chance to stay away from it?
I find the AdFree app invaluable in the fight againt annoying ads in other apps.

If you can't get the host file to download 1st time click Revert and then download the host file again. Should work.

Apparently mods are not the only ones who don't read posts around here.
To the OP, try using the flashtool to throw another firmware onto the phone, since a reset didn't work?
Or just install a keyboard through adb...
Just use the usb cable to transfer a keyboard app across and then a file manager to instal it.. happen to me once.. ul b fine ;-)
btw I see u mentioned no timescape.. when u go into phonebook can ya view contacts or do you get an error?!
Ps - just my tip.. upto you if you wana try it.. but seen as I use chompsms, dolphin browser, and kaloer clock.. I got rid of the alarm clock, browser and messaging!! lol got rid of email cause don't use it really, left gmail though cause there always seems to be something linked with google stuff and messes up when ya get rid of it

Thanks for the responses guys, I have a keyboard app on the SD card but I dont have a useable file browser to get to the installer, im installing Android Debug Bridge but may need some pointers on the commands to use to install.

Apps2sd PATCH- Move ALL apps!!!

Hi Guys.
I have been reading on the forums how to make more room on the HD2, seen as mine is bugging me all the time that space is low. I have noticed that lots of people have said that Apps2sd only moves 90% of apps. I did come across this site
http://www.androidblog.it/site/2010...p2sd-con-tutte-le-applicazioni-semplice-tool/
which says that this patch will let you move ALL apps. So i risked it for a biscuit and installed it. It works fine and im glad to say that all those annoying apps that i could not move to SD i have been able to move. Im sorry if this has been found or covered before but coming from WM6.5+WP7 about 8 weeks ago and getting MASSIVELY addicted to Android, i found this really helpful.
P.S. I don't know if i posted this in the right thread so if any mod doesn't think so please move it.
Thanks Adam.
I hope it helps some of you guys out too!

Download the patch to your desktop, Run as administrator, make sure your phone is plugged in. When the white box appears press number 1 to patch. Simple as that!!
Hope that helps.

thanks everyone for putting up with blonde moment.. it wasnt just running because i still had Active Sync from my old days with WinMo blocking it from running..
so i ran it and selected number one.. after connecting it gave this message << *daemon started sucessfully * >> and it didnt do anything else.. i rebooted and it is still showing no other moveable apps to the sd card.. should i re-run the patch?
You have to run app2sd on your phone, its assuming you have it, if you do run it and you will see the apps you can move, if you dont have it, then you need to install it.
Kinda off-topic, but I use DarkTremor's A2SD script, and can run 99.9% of my apps from my 1gb ext4 partition. I have probly a couple hundred apps at least, and maybe 2 or 3 have to be on internal memory. I still have like 650 mb internal storage free and my phone runs smooth like a freshly installed rom with no apps installed. Wish I could drop a link to DT's A2SD thread, but I'm away from my computer right now sorry

As Huggs said just run normally on XP. I just take for granted that everyone is using Windows 7 sorry.
works great.
Some apps moved to SD, become very slow while loading (like iGo), others run and load the same.
Thanks

Have you tried moving the apps anyway. I have found that when i go to APP2SD and select the "phone only" tab, the APPS i cant move are in the list but the move to SD tab is highlighted when i select them.
Let me know what happens.

It might be a stupid question but have you tried Aura instead of Igo. Works perfect for me from SD card. (fast GPS fix too)

Has anyone created a comprehensive list of all the stock apps that can safely be removed from the M? The last time I attempted to remove everything that I wont use I ended up having to reinstall the rom because I deleted something that it seems was needed. If there is can you please link me? If not could someone please take the time to make one? All help is appreciated!

Yes something almost exactly like that. I did view that thread but am not sure that I could use that as an uninstall list. I don't know the difference between an uninstall and a freeze except to say that an uninstall will remove it from the device. My thinking was that if the phone needs the app it can be frozen, and not show up in the drawer, which is fine in some cases however, in my case I am wanting everything not needed removed for freeing up space for the large games I am using the phone to play.

Things to Delete?

I just got my first Note series phone. I was wondering if there is anything I should straight delete after turning on the phone for the first time.
Someone said delete the Tmobile app cause it can show you're rooted? I held down and moved it to Remove spot., but does that delete it from the phone?
If anyone knows of any others that would be much appreciated.

No, system apps can't be deleted unless you are rooted. They can be disabled tho, which will remove the icon from the App drawer.
What you did, was just remove the icon from the desktop.
Ahh. Ok, thanks for the response.
I think even though I disabled some of the apps. Some still show up in App drawer. Like Music. I disabled that cause I have 3 freakin different music players. Like why the hell do they do that?
Anyways it's still showing up on my App drawer.
Rooting is really tempting me. Even though this is my first Note and have no experience doing it.

You should try using a different Launcher. Such as Nova or Apex. They have the option of 'Hiding' the icon that you don't want shown in the app drawer. Maybe you should start with that since you are new rooting.
Oh i thought you needed to root to change the launcher. Thanks for that info.

You can completely change the look of your phone without rooting, but you won't be able to do a lot of the things people like to do.
Here is a link to a good article on various launchers: http://www.androidpit.com/what-is-the-best-android-launcher
I really enjoyed Buzz Launcher for a long time, but I'm using Smart Launcher now with Cover Lockscreen on top of it. Can't wait to get my Note 4 and make the big from my Note 2.
