My Samsung Galaxy Tab (Sprint) recently, unexpectedly started displaying this message. I did a google search and was amazed on how many fixes and issues they are for this type of issue. I will admit I have done most of them...which only slow down the messages versus constantly popping up. Many tablets and phones are or have experienced this issue. Many say it was an app, widget, a system bug or a virus that caused it. It is clearly that no clear answer is established or it all depends on what was the last thing you did before you got the message. Here are the "fixes" that I found. What I will do next is flash a rom instead. I have already done two hard resets- still pops up. Hope this helps someone out. I just cut and pasted the answers that people said it worked for them. Please add any that I may have left out.
possible fixes for "process android process acore has stopped unexpectedly" USE AT YOUR OWN RISK...
1) Using Settings go to your manage applications, you will find some Contacts (Contact Storage 2.2 or Contacts) you can also do this with Titanium Backup under “Backup/Restore” tab). Click clear cache/wipe data. This will clear all your contacts (all your data) so make sure these are backed up.
2) Install/use ClockWorkMod. First back up all your data TB is the choice. As I understand this will only be done once in the lifetime of the gtab. In CWM>advanced>choose “Partition SD Card”> choose 2048 for the first choice and 0 for the second choice. This will wipe your data so have it backed up beforehand.
3) Depending on your recovery, you should try wiping cache, dalvik cache, and fixing permissions.
4) If you can, go to /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/ and move or rename the folder databases. The system will immediately rebuild the database and rewrite it back to that location and your process.acore should stop. (you'll need something like root explorer to do so...though you could adb it from your computer) (THIS ONE DID NOT WORKED FOR ME)
5) clearing data in the email app
6) menu>applications>manage applications>all>internet>clear cache>clear data.
7) update firmware
8) format your SD card (THIS WILL DELETE YOUR DATA)
9) use one tap cache cleaner app- wiped out all cache
10) start deleting your downloaded apps until the error message stop popping up
11) turn on > reset > press all buttons while starting including reset > do this until you start without android.process.acore (I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS ONE-not for tablet)
12) turned off the sync, deleted the data on the contact application
13) menu->settings-> do factory reset at bottom
repower login with new gmail login & passwordmenu->settings-> data sync ->wait for circles to right of contacts, etc to stop spinning>go to market->downloads and reinstall apps
14) (in settings->applications->manage applications), did a "clear data", "clear defaults", and "force stop" wherever applicable. Then I did a "clear data" and "force stop" to "package installer", "contacts", and "contacts storage" app. (MANY PEOPLE SAID THIS ONE DID THE TRICK)
15) Facebook contacts being synced with a gmail contact. If they aren't synced they are fine but syncd with a Facebook contact causes the error. (THIS WAS A POPULAR FIX)
16) Remove Google+ 2.0
17) Cleared cache of contacts and calendar with titanium backup (MUST BE ROOTED)
18) deleting the contacts DB directory (PEOPLE SAID THIS AFFECTED THEIR ABILITY TO USE EXCHANGE)
19) used titanium backup and wiped the three contacts files, then presto back to normal
/data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/
20) scan with an antivirus app
Just got this on my evo3d, I found that ONE of the causes is when using Titanium Backup, I backup my AOSP system data with TB, and restored it in a sense ROM, which conflicted. A factory reset did the trick, but so would cache cleaner I believe.
I did two factory reset and cleared all cache, no luck. Im using the tab now, message pops up about every two minutes or so. Very annoying.

Hi
I have same problem, started today, after saving a contact I received via whatsapp.
I've read up about this and it seems like it can be fixed by clearing contacts cache...any concrete advice on this?
Thanks

I'm using newest SO kernel and XWJS3 (made in DOC'S kitchen 9.1.3). I reboot my phone because I changed minmum LCD refresh time ( I did update only kernel not whole rom).
I reboot and I got a lot of aps crash (swype, titanium backup, go launcher ex), and some data got wipe. Still got SMS data base but I lost contacts list and all data of phone app (call log too).
The problem is that last night save a contact in my phone memory (not google account, not in sim card), I was really hurry. Is there any possibility to restore my phone book or call log
BUMP
Can someone tell me where android hold data base of contacts. I lost every setting of apps, but still got sync with gmail (and google contacts) still got SMS messages.
I lost all contats saved In phone memory I really need to recovery them.
Well, it's your fault you didn't exported contact list to a safe place before flashing.
"Contacts ->press "menu" -> import/export" save file on external sd for example.
If you have Titanium backup, you can restore contacts from there.
If you can't enter Titanium backup, then clear Dalvik cache from recovery menu.

I flashed a kernel. It worked fine for one day, at night I saved contact and get a sleep. At the morning I started to test LCD refresh time (SO kernel)... I reboot few times and after last one it load a lot of time....
... And what happened? All contacts disappear, titanium backup not working, swype not working, but I still got SMS book.
I don't know if I'm the only one having this issue, but I'd figure I'd lay out my findings for everyone to see if we can get to the bottom of it. Since the EB01 leak was released, I've noticed that after a while my installed apps will not remember their preferences anymore, think everytime is the first run, etc...
First time I flashed EB01 was using ROM Manager and an old "green" version of CWM. After the first instance of these issues cropping up, I went back DI01 using a FULL Odin restore (rom, kernel, radio, novinand, etc, w/ re-partitioning), then flashed to an EB01+CWM+Root package using Odin instead of CWM. Again, after a day or two, apps started forgetting their preferences. I then got a new phone as a warranty replacement, went from EA28 to EB01 using Odin: still having the same issues.
The only thing I noticed out of place (I'm no developer) in a logcat trace is:
Code:
Line 745: E/ApplicationContext(31797): Couldn't rename file /dbdata/databases/com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer/shared_prefs/com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer_preferences.xml to backup file /dbdata/databases/com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer/shared_prefs/com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer_preferences.xml.bak

Just a few other things I've noticed
*System application do not seem to be affected
*/dbdata/databases/ is full if entries for apps that are no longer installed. I don't know if that is normal or if they are supposed to be cleared out when an app is removed.
*deleting the entry in /dbdata/databases/ for a particular app seems to force it re-create the entry, allowing it save it's preferences.....until they change again.
*reading from dbdata seems to work fine, just writing isn't working.
*only certain apps seem to act up. The first ones to show signs of issues are usually Tapatalk, Root Explorer, & Titanium Backup. Apps like Dropbox and Facebook don't seem to be affected this time around.
I question weather this a corruption due to the installation method (outdated CWM) or a bug in EB01 itself and only folks who add/delete apps frequently like myself are more prone to notice it.
Thoughts?
First, this shouldn't be posted here. This has nothing to do with Development, so it should have gone in the General forum.
Next, have you tried to do a factory reset after the issue pops up and try again? I realize that you did the full Odin wipe, but did you try wiping data anyway? Also, are you on Voodoo or no-voodoo?
1. Apologies, I figured since this was an issue with software under development and is likely a code issue, that it belongs here more than anywhere.
2. Yes, many wipes of data & cache partitions, restores to DI01, etc. The full restore & re-formatting was a last resort. Plus, it's doing the same thing with an entirely new device.
3. Non-voodoo
What I would suggest is reset your phone and reset your data restoring, AKA clearing it from google's servers the best way to do that is reflash a froyo rom, wipe all the cache's and then when it asks you to login with your google account skip that step and then login using Settings->Accounts & Sync add your google account And then in Settings->Privacy Uncheck Backup my data and Automatic Restore. There is a chance there is a app or a setting being pulled from google that could be screwing it up, you could also try formating your SD card.
You mentioned Titanium Backup. It has an "Auto-sync TB settings" is supposed to auto restore it's settings from the SD card after a wipe. Maybe you have a setting in there that is causing an auto-restore to happen of the data from some of your apps.
And definitely check to make sure that you don't have Automatic Restore checked in Settings->Privacy. The best way to do this is just like jazzyjames mentioned. After a wipe, don't log into Google on the first boot, but first go in and uncheck the auto restore. Then you can log into your Google account.
It happens to those who use voodoo, but it was worse with 2.2 for some reason.
I fixed it using and all in one odin 2.2 version. It'll repartition the file system and restore your dbdata.
Done problem solved...
I found the Google Auto-Restore was enabled, so I disabled it to clear everything and did a factory wipe and re-did everything with pretty much every automated backup or sync service turned off.
We'll see how things go.
I rooted my Motorola Droid 2 R2D2 with no problem. Everything was working fine until today, I went to look up one of my contacts and it closed. The only information I have found talks about Yahoo, but I only use Gmail and my contacts are linked to my phone. I have been looking for an example of the /system/app file so I can compare it to what is currently in my file? I thought I had made a backup but I did not do a nandroid backup.

you posted like 3 times that, you couldn't get rooted
that said nothing you did, should have effected contacts
first try to backup contacts
1 are contacts synced with Backup Assistant℠ Plus: Contacts or Contacts.Google.com?
2 also backup contacts on sd card, open contacts app/menu/import/export select export to storage/ok
3 use "sms backup +", for texts and call log
un-sync google account(s) menu/settings/accounts & sync/ uncheck contacts
then you can try menu/settings/apps/all/contacts force stop, then clear data, then reboot
if contact still not working menu/settings/apps/all/contact storage app/ force stop and clear data then reboot
re-sync google contacts, wait for contacts to re-sync
Thank you
I used the CD iso to root my phone like you advised me to do. I forgot to go back to that Thread and post that. Thank you for the help on rooting my phone. I will go through the steps that you posted and I will let you know how that works out.
I am using Contacts.Google.com.
Still cannot open individual contacts
I went through all of the steps that you provided me and when I open a contact it goes right back to the contact list. What would you suggest next?
did you wipe app data and reboot, and wipe cache?
could try wiping dalvik cache in cwm advanced options
phone will take a few mins to reboot after that
fix permissions in cwm
factory restore
or flash sbf (ezsbf for r2d2 622)

I reset the factory defaults but I still cannot add a new contact with my phone or open the information about any of my contacts. Below is a link to a list of all of the files that are in my /system/app.

I had the same problem after rooting my phone. I would try to save a new contact (all other contacts had been saved under google and back up assistant so they weren't a problem) and it would revert back to the home screen. What I did was reflash A955.2.3.4.fixed.sbf file and then run RootDroid2.bat which fixed things. I also think it is possible that I deleted too many motorola blur apps possibly messing with the contacts, either way doing this fixed it. You can find the root files in the forum..the packaged file is called RootDroid2update I think.

Everytime i sign out/in to facebook i start getting this constant message "unfortunately android.proccess.acore has stopped working" i know how to fix it but it keeps coming back. Anyone know why this is happening? Im on stock NG2 rooted ROM. Thanks.
Are you synching facebook contacts?
That could be an issue. I've seen that in the past.
Found these two, thought you may have already tried them.
---
find Google Services Framework and clear the cache (if any) and clear data. Reboot, and you should be good to go.
And/Or
settings ->application manger -> all-> and clear data on contact and contact storage in app manager. But... Your data for contacts will be wiped away. So remember to BACKUP!
I dont sync my facebook contacts and i know to clear my contacts storage and that fixes it but it always comes back when i sign out of facebook

So I just installed the latest cm nightly and as soon as i booted up my phone before I even signed into my Google account this started happening and this time there was no fix at all I tried everything so I restored back to stock and it's not doing it..
Damn bummer. I'm stumped
So I won't flash NG2 update... It may cause this problem.
Hi, in these days my phone was sent to service repair. Now all data is cleared. Before repair I made a full backup via Samsung account.
Now I can't restore backup, also tried wipe data and re-flash firmware.
At first boot tried to restore backup, when it search for backups, it appear a loading bar with something like "Restore" and it looking for backups but it will disappear in few seconds.
I have minimum of 3 backups stored, tried to redo a backup manually and restore but I can't, same via Settings->Backup and restore.
What can I do? It seems that I can't restore my past and future backups.
Thank you
Hi, I have same problem, did you already solve it?
Not yet, I think that it's not a problem related with the smartphone but with the account. I think that we have to call Samsung support.
Same issue here with S7!
SOLVED! Resetted the app Samsung Cloud and then updated, reboot, wait 2/3 mins and restored backup successfully.
Did not work. How did you reset? Just cleared the data? And I see no updates..

Yes, cleared cache and data. It worked for me.
You may try to see logs.
1. Open dialer and compose *#9900#, clic on DEBUG LEVEL and select MID or HIGH, your device will reboot automatically.
2. Redo the procedure to try to restore backup(in this way you will generate the logs for your issue)
3. Open dialer and compose *#9900#, clic on RUN DUMPSTATE/LOGCAT/MODEM LOG, wait for the process to complete and select COPY TO SD CARD (include CP RAMDUMP)
4. Search for the log file and see if you can read something wrong.
Contacted Samsung Support. And that is exactly what they did - updated (some nontrivial way) Samsung Cloud app. Then I could do the restore! Hurray!
what should i do next after this?
If anyone still has this issue, what worked for me was to go to Galaxy Apps and update the Cloud app. (You have to display system apps.)
It's a tip I found here:
https://forums.androidcentral.com/s...rver-try-again-later.html?passport=1548204689
You can follow the steps to get back your Samsung data.
1. Recover the wanted data from Samsung Account. To get back your files, you need to go to Settings and elect Accounts once again. Next, choose Samsung account and tap on Restore. After that, you can select the file types that you want to restore and click on Restore now to start restoring.
2. Confirm your option. After taping on the Restore now option, a pop-up prompt will appear to ask you to confirm your action. Just tap on ok to proceed the process.
I had a problem with restoring my repaired phone. It turned out I had two Samsung Cloud accounts; one with one phone contact and approximately 6 photos. The two SC accounts were attached to two different emails. I found this out by logging in to Samsung Cloud on my PC. Then I had to do a hard restore on my phone and then I was able to sign in to the correct SC account and could restore my precious data.
