com.google.process.gapps force closing in 3.2 KMN - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Anyone else besides me getting this? I had no idea what was causing it at first, but it seems that within 5-10 minutes of using the Tab regularly, the force close prompt would come up. I'd hit close, however, none of the apps I was currently in at the time would close. Every 2-3 minutes, like clockwork, the prompt would show up again. Got very annoying.
From the suggestion of another member, I took down my G-Mail widget and rebooted. Used the Tab like normal, still force closing. I then realized it COULD be the stock browser. I downloaded Dolphin for Tab Beta and used that...no force closes (yet). I have a suspicion that it could be the browser.
Is this happening with anyone else? I'm on stock KMM with the KMN CSC, odexed, with root and CWM. No other OS changes/alterations have been made. I even wiped the device completely, including my storage partition, re-downloaded and re-flashed, and it was still occurring with stock browser use.

Uncheck sync bookmarks with Chrome. Used to have the same issue and it drove me nuts.

I had this issue with syncing bookmarks. Fixed it by going to the Google Dashboard (sorry don't have the URL) and clearing the data section under Chrome. No issues since then.

Well this is getting out of hand for me. I started noticing this after the 3.2 update, but now it's getting crazy. I wasn't able to uncheck the sync in the Android browser options, I had to clear the data and then simply not sync it, but I think its still trying to sync. I did go to the dashboard and clear the data there as well per the suggestion in this thread. I am un-rooted running stock 3.2 update. I can see in the error report that it crashing on trying to sync bookmarks. What a pain!

Try creating a new gmail account (you don't actually have to use it for anything) and sync the bookmarks to that instead.

Sounds like a good idea to troubleshoot this issue. Thanks!

You have to go to accounts and sync, your Google account, and uncheck bookmarks from there. That's what stops the bookmark sync. You can't uncheck in browser and clearing data from the browser is unrelated.

G-mail Sync B0rked

Hi All,
I'm running CyanogenMod 4.11.1.1 (but have been having this problem since 4.0.4). My G-mail sync is semi-b0rked. It never updates anymore, even if I manually select the "refresh" option it doesn't update. The only thing that works is, if I go in to Gmail's settings, select "labels" and modify the # of days to sync for, it will magically update. So, I've been manually toggling it between 3 and 4 days of sync time just to get it to update whenever I'm expecting a new e-mail, but it's quite annoying that it stopped working on its own.
My guess is that some library or system file related to gmail got nuked during the cyanogen upgrade, but I've upgraded to several other versions (and even tried restoring a nanroid backup) but gmail still isn't syncing.
Yes, I've double-checked all the settings and everything's set to sync properly (I'd never disabled it in the first place, either).
Any hints on what I can do (I've tried wiping) to get this to work again would be greatly appreciated.
Go in to Settings>Apps>Manage Apps, find GMail and GMail storage and tap the clear data and clear cache buttons for both. Reboot.

Cheers mate, that did it!
I'm actually having the same exact issue. Manual syncing works fine but the phone refuses to sync automatically. The only piece of advice I've found is clearing the cache for Gmail and Gmail Storage. I've done this and it has no effect. I'm running Cyanogen 4.04 stable. It's driving me nuts and makes this phone pretty much useless for me since I rely on it to receive dispatch e-mails. Any other thoughts? I'm ready to just say f it and go back to a stock ROM.

Are you clearing both data and cache? That has always fixed this issue for me - and I've had it on even stock ROMs.

Did you clear both the data and the cache or just the cache?

go to your settings>sd card> at the bottom hit the reset button..it says it deletes your info but it hasnt not once .. it just clears everything.. try it
Yer mine comes and goes, tried a few Hero's, stock cupcake/donut ROM, cyanogen 4.0.4 thru to 4.1.11.1
Works for a few hours, stop working. Found gTalk works fine, but the Market will only work if gmail is syncing properly. usually will work every 2 days or so, for 4~20 hours... really really strange.

Gmail sync is busted

My Gmail sync is busted. I am not getting incoming emails nor sending outgoing mails. When i scroll down my old emails, at the point where it starts to load more older ones, I instead get a message "No connection" and "retry" button. Retry is unsuccessful.
When i go into the data and synchronization setting and manually try to sync the gmail, I get a 1-frame-flash on the bottom which flashes me a message saying "Sync is not currently experiencing problems. Please try again later".
I then add a secondary gmail account and it syncs perfectly!! But my primary one doesn't work! I can't remove my primary account and re-add it unless I do a factory reset...which I don't want to do.
I've tried a reboot and it didn't help. Anyone have any ideas?
I've got the same problem today. It seems that it's a server problem.
Server problem, even though a secondary account synced fine?
If I'm not the only one...then that makes me feel better.
I have this issue with WM
I use Google sync with WM device (My N1 should arrive tomorrow) and have had a similar (if not exact) problem. When I receive a mail from a specific sender ([email protected]) 90% of the cases it breaks the sync. I also sync that same account via IMAP on a secondary account in my WM device - just in case.. syncing every 30 minutes.. (that sync works fine) so I can use the IMAP account to delete the problematic mail.. and then, once deleted (or archived if I use the web interface) the problem is gone.
Try to find if there was a mail message you got that caused the problem. it is probably either the last synced mail or the one just after that...
Update:
The sync fixed itself this morning. It started syncing nonstop for a good hour (I'm on ATT Edge too) and I wasn't sure what it was doing, but the end result is I can now get my emails and notifications again.
On a separate note, I also noticed that now in my Gmail app, I can access every email dating back to 9/11/09. That's hundreds of emails. And If I scroll all the way to the bottom, there's no more loading earlier conversations, so 9/11/09 is the farthest back I can access my email without searching.
Does anyone know that there is such a limit to looking into past emails? Also, Anyone know why it doesn't just expose a 15-20 emails at a time like previously? Is it because once the email is exposed, it's cached somewhere and I don't need to load it anymore? If so, I'd love to know where I can delete this cache.
Some other members have experienced a similar issue with no sync. They fixed the broken sync by doing this(and this is how you can clear that cache as well)
Setting->Apps->Manage Apps-> gmail/gmail storage->clear data and cache(if you can, on my G1 I can just clear data, no cache shows)
You will probably just want to clear the gmail storage one, but doing both probably wouldn't be that big of a deal.

On older versions of Android, we could clear the cache on all Google apps... but this isn't available through the Manage Applications screen in 2.1. Not sure why Google took out this feature.. Previously if Gmail stopped synching, we would clear the cache and it would start working again. Hopefully this doesn't become an unfixable issue with 2.1.

They took it out? That sucks! Can you do the clear data at least? And I could swear I read someone with a Nexus One had this issue, and cleared the data or cache for gmail and fixed it... maybe it was in the G1 forum, starting to get confused following both at the same time.

Aha I found it! I may be an Android noob but I can still be useful.
Within Manage Apps, click hit Menu > Filter > All. This will expose all the native apps as well and you can clear your cache till the cows come home. I just found this a minute ago and cleared out my cache for my Gmail, default browser, and Youtube. That felt sooooo good, since I'm such a storage nazi.

Unable to sync browser

I have been unable to sync my browser bookmarks with Google chrome, I already tried the clear cache thing and the delete data thing and it doesn't work, I also tried deleting my Google account in the "Account and Sync" and remaking it.
When I went into the account and sync and forcing a sync with the refresh button, everything syncs fine but the "Sync Browser" would show the syncing icon but it would move for a few minutes then stop but not disappear.
I have the same problem. I did some Googling and it looks like it could be a bug with 3.22 (
My 3G Xoom's still 3.1
Im having this problem as well, been trying to figure out what the deal is. The only way i fixed this problem is to do a factory reset any idea's here i wanna fix this but dont want to have to rebuild everthing again.
same here. Some bookmarks synched but last few days sync browser shows icon and won't disappear.

I had the same issue a week ago and spent ages trying to force it to resync using various methods. I think it was an issue with Google's systems as 3 days later I did a sync and it all worked fine without me doing anything.
So far I have tried a factory reset and still no dice so I think the problem is on Google's side.
Update: It seems to be okay updating them a few at a time
pretty sure it's on google's side. I've spent hours on this and so has another member of the forums named mike. Wiped cache within the browser then went into app settings and wiped cache/data/force closed. Then went to google dashboard and reset chrome sync. Then launched xoom browser and it worked every time, however, the second I reimported my bookmarks on my desktop (they had to be empty to get the xoom to sync) it would break again. Left it sitting a few hours and it synced the folders but none of the bookmarks in them. Logcat said that it was losing the data stream mid sync and was either a problem of wrongly reported size of data being transported or loss of connection. I'm betting on google's side.
i had the same issue (Gapps would FC) and i got it to work. It seems i had to many bookmarks. I did a back up on my desktop and deleted a bunch of bookmarks. I would slowly add more to it and resync. Since the bookmarks were already on the xoom it would just add the others. I now have all my bookmarks and they sync with out a problem now.

I will.
I'd much rather the freaking feature work though.
It worked earlier on the Xoom and before I sent my tab to get repaired (I guess they updated it, it was gone for 3 weeks.)
Doesn't work on my tab10.1 either, very annoying that there hasn't been any OTA update since release even to fix the browser issues which are as follows:
1. Browser bookmark sync doesn't work
2. Heavy websites causing screen redraw, impossible to scroll from top to bottom without redraw
3. All websites refuse to load and the last website which did load is displayed but in garbled form.
4. Flash causing slowdown and stuttering - try loading www.techradar.com and enable flash and then scroll up and down - it's terrible.
5. Holding down on a weblink doesn't bring up the sharing function to share to another app.

All the same stuff is happening here. Not very happy with it.
Mine never worked until I:
Stop syncing in chrome.
Remove google sync on tablet.
Reboot table.
Start sync in chrome.
Add sync on table.
Has worked ever since. YMMV

I have had to wipe my chrome sync in the Google Dashboard twice since I got my tab in early December to fix the sync problem. Whether it's the tab's fault or your stored data's fault I don't know. After you get it set up again it can take 1 or 2 days for everything to trickle through though, so be patient.
I turned on "Encrypt all data" when using Chrome Sync, and since then my Galaxy Tab browser has failed to sync bookmarks.
I don't know if this is the issue, but it would make sense. Can you check your sync settings in Chrome?

Originally it was just passwords but I wanted everything encrypted. I was offering a suggestion of what might be causing the Tab to fail when syncing bookmarks, since it started failing for me after encrypting everything.
I think the only way to go back to encrypting only the passwords is to stop Chrome syncing, delete all synced data from the dashboard, and turn syncing back on. I could be wrong!
Okay, so this is what I did to get my Bookmarks working:
Go to Settings in your Chrome Browser.
Personal Stuff>Advanced
Uncheck Bookmarks
Change to "Encrypt passwords"
Click OK.
In the Personal Stuff Window, click Google Dashboard and login
Scroll down to Chrome Sync and click "Stop sync and delete data from Google"
Depending on how much you've got, it can take a while. Mine took about 7-10 minutes. Have a smoke or something.
When it's finished, go back to Chrome Settings>Personal Stuff>Advanced
Recheck Bookmarks, and double-check Encrypt Passwords is selected.
Done.
I did this the other day and I didn't lose any data. See below:
"Last sync: Apr 18, 2012 9:45 PM
Bookmarks: 204
Preferences: 22
Themes: 1
Autofill data: 3168
Autofill profiles: 5
Extensions: 9
Applications: 9
Omnibox data: 198
Open Tabs: 5
Search engines: 86
Passwords: 5
Note: Encrypted with password."
If your using the Android browser and it's still not working, look into "Chrome Marks". It's free and will one-way sync your bookmarks to your device. If you pay for it, it goes 2-way.
Can also try the Chrome Beta app. I've mess with it for a while, but they still have a lot to do just for stability...and it's been taking time away from checking out ICS.
Hope any or all of this helps out.
Edit: Forgot to mention you'll need to setup a new application-specific password to get Chrome Sync going again. I don't remember where though. gl
Dear SBGS FTW, thank you and your method worked my links are syncing again
Oh god this is annoying, my tab is almost perfect but those fukin bookmarks...
Can't get them to work no matter what, how come they have made it so difficult...
Plus, if I could just export from Chrome and then import to my tab, that would be enough.. but noooo.........

I stopped receiving email notifications!

Sometime within the last week, I noticed that I stopped receiving email notifications on my phone. I can still retrieve email manually (both through Inbox and the Gmail app), but unless I open the app it won't refresh. I've tried messing with the notification settings - none of which were turned off or disabled - and I've even removed and re-added my Google accounts. No effect!
I'm not sure what else I should be trying, or why this would even be occurring. I haven't noticed any other apps giving me the same issues; for instance, Facebook and my Twitter client (Fenix) both continue to push notifications just fine. Any advice on what I could try next? Thanks in advance!
Have you wiped data of Google play services by any chance? That will cause this every time without fail.
It should sort itself out eventually, I found a good article describing what happens when Google play services data is wiped and it causes mayhem with syncing your Google account.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I know I have before, but I don't think it was recently. That's really good to know now! I'm contemplating just doing a full wipe because all these tiny problems are starting to get at me. Removing your Google account plays havoc with apps now.
I used to have this same issue when I used Inbox on my last device and never really came across any fix while searching for answers. Never had it happen with Gmail, so that's odd you're having that same issue. Only thing I can recommend is trying another email app. I use BlueMail now and have no issues with not getting notifications.
With app issues, specially with Google Apps, I recommend rebooting to Safe Mode and testing the app.
1. Hold Power Button until Power Off shows.
2. Hold Power Off until "Reboot to Safe Mode" appears.
3. Click "Reboot to Safe Mode".
4. See if the issue persists.
Check the sync
Also, check if you jave restricted the background data at the data usage
I checked everything you guys recommended, nothing seemed to help. In a rage I factory reset the phone, and everything is peachy now. Instant emails galore. No idea what that implicates as the cause.

I think that the April factory image definitely has issues. Mine was battery problems, but all is fine after flashing Mays image. There was a sync issue with all Gmail users for a while but that seems to be fixed now as well.
