I wonder if google is checking the user agent? Or if not that, maybe just making sure the IP is coming from Verizon. Remember someone noted this will not work over WIFI, so I would try the URLs within the Eris's browser with wifi off if that is the case.
If you're using your home internet connection, it won't show up to google as Verizon wireless.
I just tried the URL's using 3G --- that didn't work either.

Well damn.
Ok I wonder if they are caching the zip on your sdcard. You could try running the freeware program called "Recuva" on it which will recover deleted files and see if the file is still there.

I tried installing the update but there was some type of error in the recovery menu or something. These are the stats I have now

This is the only thing in the patch script that makes me nervous.
Code:
assert(package_extract_file("recovery.img", "/tmp/recovery.img"),
write_raw_image("/tmp/recovery.img", "recovery"),
delete("/tmp/recovery.img"));
show_progress(0.016179, 1);
assert(package_extract_file("boot.img", "/tmp/boot.img"),
write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img", "boot"),
delete("/tmp/boot.img"));
show_progress(0.016179, 1);
write_firmware_image("PACKAGE:radio.img", "radio");
I tried flashing on PlainJane which is the OTA update with a few changes and well it didn't work( On RA I modified the update script so it wouldn't flash recovery, boot,or radio and signed it give me an error and on the first assert). So I flashed the recovery that came with the update to see if it was the RA recovery giving problems and then tried to flash the OTA as is and still got the same error, so You probably have to be on a true no root, no nothing OTA for it to work. If anyone is willing to do it let me know so i can incorporate this OTA into PlainJane.
The radio should be safe. It's the other I'm worried about.

I wouldn't be to sure they can lock the nand with the radio if they wanted, doubt they would do it thought. but if you have 1.49200 the engineering hboot you're good because you can flash anything with that.
"OTA 2.1plus" 2010-07-17 System Image
Here is the fully patched /system partition image (yaffs2 format) for those of you that want to start using the patched files.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3UBCFTHP
(see below for MD5 and file size)
This system image was created by running the 2010-07-17 "OTA2.1plus" OTA update against a FR'ed Leak-V3 ROM on the Eris
1) Start with a rooted Eris w/ 1.49.2000 S-OFF bootloader and Amon_RA
2) Wipe /system and /data
3) Install (via unyaffs or flash_image) system.img, userdata.img, boot.img, recovery.img from (unpacked) Leak-V3 PB00IMG.ZIP
4) Boot phone and let it configure itself
5) Move OTA_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_2.37.605.4_2.36.605.1_release.zip to SD card root folder and rename as "update.zip"
6) Perform FR of Eris
7) Reboot, skip activation calls, shutdown
8) Boot (Vol-Up+End) LV3 Recovery, and perform sdcard:update.zip update
9) Finish update, reboot, skip activation, shutdown
10) Re-install Amon_RA via fastboot
11) Make Nandroid Backup
For disambiguation purposes only, I renamed the resulting system.img file
63a06b50ca291e62a9a7f6c8761a5284 ota21+_system.img (172,675,008 bytes)
I could have culled only the patched files into a zip, which would have reduced the size considerably, but I'm still rebuilding my dev station, and don't have everything I needed set up yet.

PS Yes, I suppose I have a new radio on my phone now. Que sera, sera, sera.
PS2 Now you can stop worrying
Well I'm saying I feel safe because I already have that radio. I've had it for a few months. It was extracted from the Sprint Hero.
BFTB0: FR?
Here's an edited update.zip i made. It patches everything and leaves the bootloader and recovery untouched.
http://www.multiupload.com/NUFVZNVDGD
I had to fix permissions on su afterward, but that's fairly easy with adb shell:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/mtd/mtd3 /system
chmod 06755 /system/bin/su
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOUR PHONE GETS HOSED
Hi All,
I'm facing a weird problem. I've just updated to android 2.2.1 by international galaxy (PDA I9000XWJS8) and I wanted to root it using update.zip applicable to 2.2 android version.
I have put the update.zip into /mnt/sdcard/ directory, then reboot into android recovery 3e, then 'install sdcard:update.zip'
Well, this is what I get:
----
Install from sdcard
Finding update package ...
Opening update package ...
Verifying update package ...
E:failed to seek in /mnt/internal_sd/update.zip
(Invalid argument)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborte
----
Apparently the file cannot be found, because it is looked for in the /mnt/internal_sd directory and not /mnt/sdcard directory. But my internal sd is mounted in /mnt/sdcard.
How can I either change the behaviour of android recovery to look for zip file in /mnt/sdcard - or - mount my internal sd card as /mnt/internal_sd?
This of course does not permit me at all to install whatever update.zip.
During flashing to froyo 2.2.1 I've updated PIT to 8xx version (812?) and used repartition from ODIN.
Appart of that things look OK, any help greatly appreciated.
Search is your friend.
Since Froyo you cannot install update.zips from recovery (3e). You need 2e recovery.
SuperOneClick should work linkage .....
Alternatively you could flash a custom kernel via odin & have root, clockwork recovery & lagfix if you wanted.
is there any recommended kernel known to work with following configuration:
PDA: I9000XWJS8
PHONE: I9000XXJQ1
CSC: I9000OXXJP9
(build 2011.03)?
thanks

They pretty much all work with that config, just choose the one that would be most suited to your needs & level of competence.
And be sure to download the Odin version of the kernel you choose ......

try hardcore's speedmod-kernel-k13c-500hz, and root from CMW
hopefully this can be inflicted with sbf_flash (linux). I used File Expert instead of Root Explorer to change permissions on /data/system/thrtottle however File Expert crashed and now I am stuck in boot loop land.
or push update.zip? I'm not at all clear on the choice some 30 hours of reading later
as my phone is very not usable now

- build your own fixed sbf:
- depack sbf-file with MotoAndroidDepacker and delete cg31.smg and cg39.smg
- repack sbf-file (MotoAndroidDepacker)
- install nadroid backup
- flash repacked sbf-file (this one without cg31/cg39)

Hi,
I want to root my Defy+, but I am not sure how to do it from a Linux box. I have read several threads on the topic, but all of them seem to assume that one is rooting from a Windows box. I run Linux myself and haven't found any good tutorial here.
To start with, I have downloaded the SDK and using adb I have connected to the phone and listed the devices. The phone is there.
I found a guide on how to root a Defy from Linux on this page: https:/ /www . ibm. com/developerworks/mydeveloperworks/blogs/coolwinding/entry/how_to_root_defy_on_linux1?lang=en
The page also contains a zip file called root_defy_tools.zip with some files that should be pushed to the phone (exploit.bin (psneuter), su, Superuser.apk, busybox).
I also took a look at a file called SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse.zip which seem to be used when rooting a Defy from Windows. It contains - among others - the same files as the root_defy_tools.zip file.
Some questions:
- is there a difference in how to root a Defy and a Defy+? The page I linked to describes how to root a Defy. Can that instruction be used for a Defy+ as well?
- both root_defy_tools.zip and SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse.zip contains psneuter ans Superuser.apk, but the files has different file dates and size varies. What difference can there be between the files? Does it matter which versions I use? How do I know which version to use?
- if I ever want to unroot my phone, how to I do it? Is is just to perform the steps in reversed order? Or do I need to do anything else?
After some struggling, I managed to use the instructions in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595013 to root my Defy+ using Linux.
To flash the sbf, I used the utility sbf_flash: http://blog.opticaldelusion.org/
