Note speaking text messages - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

For some reason, my Note has started speaking my text messages. Car mode is off, and no accessibility options are set.
Any ideas how to switch this off?
Thanks,
Dave

There are two car options in fact. One in Androids system settings for text-to-speech and there is another option in vLingo, the Samsung rebranded voice recognition software. They are treated independently. Be sure to (un)check them both accordingly.

Both are unchecked! If I switch on the Vlingo car mode, it reads out simultaneously and separately using a different voice, so it isn't Vlingo causing the problem. I've also tried switching the "standard" one on and off, and all leaving it on with all the options unchecked, but it still reads out the messages!
Thanks anyway!
Regards,
Dave

Ok, I worked it out!
I installed Cluzee the other day, but hadn't got around to play with it - turns out that reading text messages is one of it's functions!

Lol... cool you got it resolved though...

Voice dial anyone?

Tried to search this.. anyone knows if I can voice dial with Desire? I need it when dial someone while driving through bluetooth. Thanks
I too would love an answer to this if anyone has one. Would be nice if the button on bluetooth handsfree kits started voice dialing as with my TouchHD, but just voice dialing would be a start. I am guessing that the only option would be using the voice search but I tried that and it just looked up whatever name I searched on google
Download and install the car dock (see here).
Amongst other things, it allows you to voice dial.
Regards,
Dave
You don't need the car dock app, if you have voice search installed, just long press the search button and say "call whoever".
Si
is there any non internet dependent voice dialer available
Am I missing something? Long press on search key does not bring up any voice search on my Desire... do I need to install any app?
mine puts call whoever into a Google search???

I havnt gotten my Desire yet, but is it really that easy? Just install that app?
Has someone actually made this work? All my searches go to google. Carl/Kal whatever...
Yep, works fine. DL'd to my PC, onto the card and bingo. Works perfectly.

Doesn't work on my handset it always performs a Google search. I've even tried unticking the Internet option in the Searchable Items list and it still searches Google. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling too.
Me too I think this might be a new version though but it wont download lol

It is a newer version than the one I originally had installed. I uninstalled and reinstalled this one.
Download to your PC, then move to the SD Card and install (just open with Astro.) It really works very well
Yes this works better now, only thing is when i say call mom etc
i get a list.. call mom, call mom mobile, call mom google search etc.. why dont it just do it lol

Voice to speech freezing phone

My droid x keeps on freezing when I try to use voice to text in any setting, such as swype or the search widget. My entire phone locks up with the rotating throbber frozen in the center of the screen, and I have to hit home in order to get out.
Everything else is fine, and I have no issues as long as I stay away from voice to text. Does anybody else have this problem? I think it's the google voice to text service crashing, but I'm not running a task killer, though I used to. Turning my phone off and restarting makes everything fine.
Any ideas?

I've been experiencing this since day one, even after the update. It doesn't happen often, but when it does I just kill the voice recognition app and then it works okay. It's only locked up on me once that was bad enough I had to do a battery pull.
What's the name of the app you kill? And after you kill it, can it be used again, or is it just disabled until you restart your phone?

"Voice Commands", and "yes" respectively.
I've ben having same problem.

I have no clue what's causing this problem. Killing Voice Search/Commands seems to be the only workaround at this point, and that doesn't exactly fix things either.
I just did a factory reset to clear up another problem and it seemed to have fixed the vice search also. I recommend trying it.

I have had the same problem as well...but I think mine only locks up when I'm using the swype keyboard. So maybe that has something to do with it?
speech to text locking Droid X
I too have been having my speech to text lock up, and notice it happens when using other programs ie. Handscent with swype. move to multi-touch keyboard and it is fine. Has happened with other programs and swype as well.???
Doesn't help when killing voice commands on the Droid X. Only when changing from Swype to Multi-touch keyboard. I love Swype, but maybe love Handscent more :-(
Need to make them play nice together!
This is happening to me and I don't use swype. Has happened on and off when using pretty much all "voice command" type situations. Will lock up once, then after a force kill will work fine next time.
Not sure about this, but doesn't the voice recognition feature have to "call home" to the internet to work (and that is why it takes so long for voice commands to initialize as well) so could this be a problem with connectivity timing out? I could swear I read somewhere that one of the future update plans includes allowing the speech recognition to work without having to connect to google online.

Locate your lost phone with SMS / Sick MUST have app: Tasker

I know there are threads on tasker, but i have to say, this is one sick app.
all you have to do is send sms with secret word from any phone and Tasker will enable wifi, gps, and send back a link to google maps with phone location.
That is amazing, but...
Pity the GPS, Compass and Google Maps implementation is completely ****ing broken!
I would definitely love to use this when (or if) the locational services ever do function. Thanks for the heads up -- I had no idea this existed.
There are multiple apps like "Where's my droid" that do this as well.

Maybe, but tasker does thousand other things. For me gps works fine, but there is a problem with compass

If its not too long, would you mind posting your contexts and tasks to achieve just that exact same you just described? I'm trying to get better with the program although at a very slow pace
Thanks a lot mate!

Yeah i was interested in how you did it as well. I am just learning this tasker app and it doesnt seem that you can import and export tasks easily.

you can find it here: http://tasker.wikidot.com/profile-index
the guy is using GPS only, but its pretty straight forward to include WIFI in this as well (WIFI is for better location without GPS). The time to wait for GPS to get a lock is up to you, I have 1 min.
and as you can see there is a profile there if you wish to lock you phone with SMS and/or play sound. (havent tried that)
For now I have these tasks: 1. If power ON, screen timeout is set to 45 sec (from 15), and lockguard is disabled 2. from 7:30pm to 8am screen brightness set to min and to AUTO other times. 3 Created a widget for "Vibrate" and "Bluetooth" since Vibrant is missing easy access to those functions (in a nice menu widget to save space). 4. I have several tasks killed at boot since they are useless anyway. (for this need to insert WAIT command with whatever time needed since some tasks start after the phone boots)
Thanks a lot for that link! Was able to create my own widget too now!

Read that Lookout drains battery, one of the features of Tasker is to actually save battery.

Any idea how to get this installed? I don't have it showing on my phone. Also, it shows it is only available in Germany and the UK. Do you have a work around to allow it to work anywhere?

Settings->Voice input and output->Text-to-speech settings-> Driving mode checked
Settings->Voice input and output->Text-to-speech settings-> Driving mode settings: You can select here which notifications are read aloud
in latest midnote 3.2 ICS u can also set caller ID on sanity settings
'Call announcer' is nice.
Announcify is also nice. It's open source too (source on GitHub).
It can read out caller ID for phone calls, SMS/MMS, e-mail, etc…
I have a Nokia n73 as well! ! good camera phone for its time! !

One handed operation -- not working

For some reason, the feature mentioned in the video above does not work in my phone.
I already activated this in the Settings. Any thoughts why?
Thanks!

it should work if you checked one handed operations in the settings. this was the first thing i tried on the display model at the at&t store today. the guy in the video is kinda doing the wrong gesture to get it to work though. its not a half circle gesture, you need to swipe the screen to the left and back to the right real quick with out taking your finger off the screen. or vice versa.
Did that already. Still does not work. Dont know why. Hehe.

It works on mine (French device) .
Works on mine.
I'm also having the same issue, haven't got it to work yet either. Again, I've enabled it in the options but no matter what gesture I make, it doesn't work.
I've got a suspicion that there's another setting conflicting with it somewhere but I don't know what.
Does it only work on the home screen with the stock launcher or is this supposed to work anywhere? In the videos I've seen demoing it it's always been on the main home screen.
Anywhere

Even in multi window mode
I can't even get it to work on the home screen. I'll try to record a video tonight.
It works on app as well.

I've just made a quick video showing this not working on mine:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AddrtLg1Ok4
Please excuse the poor quality, that's my old phone (and the woman in the background is my wife, ignore her).
Believe me, I've tried every variant of swiping that I can think of, I just cannot make this work.
Somebody did a factory reset and after tried? May be some settings or app cause this.
I had the same problem. I solved it by disabling all accessibility services, in my case it was lightflow that caused it. If you enable lightflow you get a warning that talkback can't be active in junction with several Samsung services, which is on one hand exactly what happens. On the other hand it's not talkback that's activated, but lightflow. which is really strange : the message is simply wrong.
I spotted this thread here:
http://developer.samsung.com/forum/...=GeneralB&messageId=204387&messageNumber=2156
Look at post #35. This is a bug of the S4 but it seems to be also existent on the note 3. this is what also breaks the gesture for one handed operation .

This is it! I disabled all my accessibility services and suddenly one-handed mode worked right away!
That's a bit of a damn shame, as I need those services for my Pebble and to a lesser extent, Lama. Oh well, fingers crossed for a bugfix.
We better cross fingers very hard because Samsung had not fixed this for over a year!!!
To get this working it seems all accessibility options have to be turned off. I don't think any specific third party app is to blame as any of the ones on the screen cap caused the function to stop if it was turned on. If they are turned of it works fine in Touch wiz and other launchers tried.
Hope this is fixed soon as Lightflow, DynamicNotifications, Pebble and Tasker etc. are very useful to me - even more so when rooting is reliably sorted.
It's also worth mentioning that turning on any of these accessibility options also causes the standard browser to keep talking annoyingly saying "Page Loading", Page Loaded" etc. Further indication it is an Android bug.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 4
Yes you are wright. This was the problem. But without pebble and tasker is not my option, so I'll wait for the fix it.
Really thanks for your solution!
