Ns4g cm9 - Nexus S General

Ok so I've been trolling the fourums here since I had my captivate.. was running cm7 on that and loved it... I passed that phone to my wife n opted for a ns4g. So far love it.... I liked the aosp ics but have now settled back with cm7 and feel stuck in the past... my question is does anyone know if they are working on a ns4g cm9... if so anyone know its current status... I really likes the aosp ics except very buggy... if I missed a thread on this sorry I could not find one...
Thanks

Its being worked on. Gonna take a while for nightly status though.

aosp's ICS is the best of the bunch in my opinion. I've been running it for the past week, without any issues. Perhaps you should try it again with a full wipe (system, boot, etc).
The fact that I've stuck with this for an entire week says something. I usually switch roms every couple of days!

Recommended rom for a friend.

I own an epic 4g and I know Modding it is somewhat similar. Gonna install a custom rom and I was wondering what you nexus s 4g owners recommend flashing. Cheers!

Personal opinion so far, having had the NS4G about 24 hours now (coming from an Epic)...
Stick with the stock ROM, just gain root and use the deodexed version if you need to. Use a custom kernel (I'm using Netarchy) with backlight notification support and voodoo. I've heard good things about Matrix, but it caused some issues for me personally.
I figured doing something of the sort would be cool. But there's something wrong with his nexus. My epic outperforms the nexus. Benchmark scores are lower and perform worse. How can this be? Does the nexus s run ext4 stock?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Strange... I don't do benchmarks because they're all bogus, but from a use-perspective my NS4G (not overclocked) performs about the same or perhaps slightly better than my Epic 4G (overclocked to 1.2).
My partitions are EXT4 so it looks like it is by default unless the deodexed stock ROM I am using was just setup that way.

Yes it runs ext4 benchmarks mean nothing. I suggest cm7 or oxygen with netarchys kernel.

Well as far as the benches go I was referring specifically to the gpu tests. My epic runs the corridor bench at 40+. The nexus barely hits 30.

You really have to stay on top of both forums... A lot of stuff in the "Nexus S" dev forum that isn't in the "Nexus S 4G" dev forum says it is for both.

CM9 is not supported, so... no miui either?

I'm guessing that since the CM team has dropped support for us that Miui would also have dropped it for us since miui is using the base of CM?
Or is Miui still going to support us?
Maybe yes maybe not. Lets see who out 1st. CM ICS or MIUI ICS.

Its 100% going to be cm.
Miui has always from past used their base to start off with. I'll be surprised if miui is first though. I really would like a stable version of ics on this phone. It can handle it for sure, I tried the latest ics Rom we have
Sent from my T959 using xda premium
I don't think MIUI is using CM as a base. AOSP built by them.
Anyways Atinm said that they'll see if they'll drop the Vibrant its not official yet.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Then you should get ready to be suprised..
I can't say anything for something thats not released yet, but the miui we have now is using a base of cm.
How do I know? The exact same problems that cm7 faced during the beginning the same miui did and the further cm7 got the same happened to miui.

cm9 is not currently supported and may never officially be, but i feel very confident it will get ported to the vibrant. i imagine it will follow similarly to cm7 on the vibrant. while atinm said he's sick of the vibrant he did mention the possibility of a port.
What you seem to be missing here...is the big picture.....its the vibrant that is dying.

AOKP Rom for the Epic? YES! [AOKP-MS4-CM9-Beta0]

Was wondering if we could get this rom on our epics? Nexus and Galaxy Nexus users claim it is the best rom.

Ohhhh' my mistake. Someone posted a thread about getting AOKP to the Epic, only a maintainer was needed. But nobody cared for whatever reason of their own.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Before earthbound left he mentioned he was working on a new ROM for the Epic. Maybe its this.
I'd love to see what this might open up for us. I've heard it's right on par with cm, but a lot farther along already than cm9 in it's current state.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Diversity doesn't hurt...and maybe cm guys would be able to take ideas from them and actually squash some of those annoying ass bugs. And if they can't...well we'd have something to hold us down until they do

Theoretically, you should be able to throw in the epic cm9 device tree and it should work.

Not entirely true lol.
I tried last month, in theory yes, some changes would ideally be needed as AOKP looks for some different things when building.
And AOKP is only aesthetically further along, they've more random options included, which I suppose is interesting.
This time around CM didn't want to flood the settings with a ton of things people don't use or readily understand.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I'd love to see a couple more options to run various versions of ICS on our phones.. AOKP is supposed to be a great rom, so this would be my first choice in addition to the CM9 we have.

Stability? This way they have more time to check out and test changes. We don't have to flash on a daily basis, we probably won't have to worry about things suddenly being broken, and can probably more so just look forward to fixes and enhancements that have been tested.

[Q] Want to downgrade to 4.1?

Currently running 4.2.1 and very pleased with it. But occasionally need to run an app. that no longer works on 4.2. But it does work on 4.1.
Was thinking I'd like to be able to flash a 4.1 ROM when I want. Is that possible; if so which ROM please, a CM ROM would be great?

Can't, 4.1 was never released on the nexus4.

There will never be a downgrade to a firmware that was never on the device in the first place. The N4 was released with 4.2, and no developer will create a 4.1 ROM for it

Shame, but I had expected that would be the answer
It's the MM Tracker application that is stuck only working on 4.1. Sadly the developer has had some hassle and isn't permitted to update anymore. Something in 4.2 broke it.
