Hey every1,
i got weird problem with all ics roms, even SD <
I can successfully install tytung beta1 rom and run it, but beta2+ roms and similar ones, and SD build all have same thing:
i have random freezes/stuck at bootlogo(it doesn't freeze, it simply continues to do the animation forever), only ONCE it booted, but since i needed kernel fix(for headphones) to apply - i restarted, and wasn't able to boot in successfully again. Now almost all the time i get freeze/reboot after ~5-10sec after i get into ics rom, SD build doesn't boot at all.
Partitioning problem? - have tried many partition layouts.(like 190/10,200/10,210/10,200/20,230/20,210/20 and so on, also with different bootloader partition size up to 8mb)
Also i have always used task29 and fully wiped everything and reinstalled from scratch, still didn't helped.
Also tried to boot with plugged in usb cable/without it or with/without memory card in.
Maby it's radio version problem, or don't know, what else can cause the problem?(radio ver:2.15.50.14)
Between i have created big cache/memory sometimes(up to 250mb partition/44mb cache) - and still it didn't worked fine :/ also tried different clockworkmod versions(3.0.0.5 and 5.something), magldr 1.13
p.s. i have europian hd2(not t-mobile)
or maby i'm partitioning it wrong? i change partition sizes inside flash.cfg and after i flash clockworkmod(i do task29 before that, and install fresh magldr), maby i should change somewhere else/more?
Also formatted memory card many times(sdformatter) and redownloaded roms, still same result.
p.s. tried ~3ics beta2+ roms(not sure mb even more), and 1sd rom
Edited:
forgot to mention, when phone kinda freezes(the boot animation/startguide for ics) - when i press physical buttons - the backlight appears and after that dims away as it does on every other android rom, so it kinda feels that rom isn't frozen, only the screen. Also sometimes after getting ics welcome screen - after ~5-10sec it gets back to bootloading animation and does it over and over again...
hey
I'm having the same problem did you figure it out I'm having same problems with ics and cm7
What has worked for me is 5/230/5. Im using tmous but that layout should work for your version.
Thanks
You are the man bro I cant believe it was something so simple
problem
I just tryed that partition it worked then rebooted while i was trying to set up the device do you know why?

I am using the ICS beta 3 now, I have updated with every release and I didn't get this problem. It sounds like something crazy, you may just have to wait a little bit because ICS is still very beta... Check out HD2 Toolkit as well it makes it much easier flashing..
Wait, I didnt didn't see that you were having problems with cm7.. :-( I'm afraid I just wasted your time on my reply..
What Clockworkk mod recovery are you using?
And how are you transfering your data to your SD card?
---------- Post added at 05:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:07 PM ----------
Try backing up your entire SD card, and then reformat it completely.
Then task29 and wipe everything.
I think you said you use magldr, since your having these problems try cLK
Use just a simple 220MB 5MB cache on HD2 Toolkit
Install ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.6 as it is the newest one.
Transfer your zip file to your SD card using a card reader.
Install and see if ICS will boot.
Try that and see if it works. It should work.
Question. Do you have this same problem with any roms besides CM7 and ICS?
---------- Post added at 05:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:15 PM ----------
Don't forget when using cLk you download the main zip file for the rom, and then a separate zip for the cLK kernal..

ok so i tried to put rafdroid on my phone (link below):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908528
I have tmobile HD2 running gingerbread 2.3.2. When I tried following the instructions and formatting/partitioning the SD card, my phone wouldnt work. i have clockworkmod recovery on my phone and i used it to install the rom zip file. it got to the screen where it has a picture of android and says dafdroid by dafpigna and stayed there for well over the initial startup time (over 20 min). I tried installing the dafdroid kernel as well (thru clockworkmod) and its still doing the same thing. when i tried formatting the sd card to anything other than quick format it wouldnt work and it wouldnt complete partitioning through the computer it would only work through clockworkmod on my phone. i tried to flash to another rom and even back to windows and it kept giving me an error message about some rampi.dll (something like that) isnt there.
please help! i cant use my phone at all! i have a 500 dollar paperweight
Hi,
Need a bit more information.
Can you still boot into magldr (holding down power button after switching on?)
What operating system are you running on your pc/laptop?
How far did you get when you were fomatting your sd card?
i find it quite common that an android rom wont complete the first boot after flash. mostly, pulling teh battery and booting again solves it.
Its also far more common when you didnt wipe the partitions from the previous rom first. (CWM, wipe data/factory reset, you can later use cwm - advanced restore - and just restore data and sd-ext to get your data and apps from teh previous rom back)
Partitioning, could be a dodgy sd card, no suggestions
rampi.dll - was it rapi.dll? update activesync to latest version.
I have an issue cannot install larger nand roms onto my phone previous roms worked tried various typhon cm7 roms, various miui roms both magldr and clk roms does not matter used task29 increased cwm size from 150 up to 250 and boot just hangs. Noticed roms larger than 90 MB zipped does not work at all they install but just hangs on boot
Hi,
I really love my Nook Color (firmware 1.2/blue dot on package) which I picked up two days ago. I Installed CM7 on the microSD card right away and it's running fine overall. -- However, I cannot boot into recovery. - DANG!!!#[email protected]#
I have looked allover this forum and beyond, but none of the other threads deal with my NC's CWM problem - or offer a working solution I could understand/use...
The ingredients I took to cook up my CM7 install:
1.) "generic-sdcard-v1.3.img" ('extracted' to SD using Win32DiskMgr)
2.) "update-cm-7.0.3-encore-signed"
3.) "gapps-gb-20110613-signed"
Everything installed OK, including CWM 3.0.2.8., which is showing as app.
BUT... no matter how [often] I try to boot into CWM Recovery, it always boots straight into CM7.
(And, yes... I've tried all the "N" + "Power" button press combinations, I think... but none of them worked).
MY QUESTIONS:
- Any idea what I did wrong? Why can't I boot into recovery?
- How can I fix this without having to use ADB? (Note: Yes, I am willing to learn, but command-line programming is not exactly my idea of fun). I was hoping there actually is a simple fix to this problem... something like "place this [...] on your SD card and boot", or so???
...Thanks for your help & suggestions.
Have you tried holding down the power from cm7 and selecting reboot into recovery?

I think i know your problem. The 1.3 installer image is not fully compatible with CM7.0.3. You might be able to update to the RC or a nightly and get it to work. Otherwise you are going to have to remake the SD card.

Thanks for your help, koopakid08! After flashing CM7 three more times in the meantime, I had that hunch, too...
Can you tell me what to use if one of my "components" is no good(?)??
I want to run CM7 off my microSD (not the eMMS install). -- So.. what do you recommend me to do, as I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you mean with "update to RC or nightly"...
Is my issue related to the CM7 version, or is it the "generic-sdcard-v1.3" image?? If it's the CM build (7.0.3), there is no RC available for the "encore" yet; just a nightly (#177) dated 8/31/2011.
If the problem is the sdcard 1.3 image, what else is there I can use to run CM7 off my microSD?
-- Thanks!

I can't believe it was THAT easy... [email protected]@##%$&$%@%*(!%%^& !!!!!!
It was indeed either the sdcard image, or CM7.0.3. Which one, I really don't care anymore, as I just flashed the latest CM nightly (#177) ... and CWM Recovery ...WORKS [:gasp:] !!!
It's a bit late now here in Chicagoland, so I better hit the pillow (it's a school night ..ha ha... tomorrow].
I will post instructions later; just in case someone else runs into the same issue.
Thanks, again, koopakid08, for getting me on the right track.
Good Night!!
Just in case you want to know what the problem was. It was the CM version you were using. The 1.3 image only works with cm7.1 versions. Glad you got it figured out.

Just an additional observation... You are using an old version of CWR. The newest is 3.2.0.1.
I don't know if you got everything sort out but, bear in mind: booting off uSD has NOTHING to do with CwM R., whatever version.
Moreover, you boot into "recovery", not boot into "clockworkmod recovery"
If you intend to run off uSD, you can completely ignore anything about ROM Manager or CwM Recovery since those are not go together and it causes more headache than help.
Good day everyone! I would like to ask for some help if it wouldn't bother.
I previously have WajkIUI 1.10.21 installed on my 2nd init. I have installed the Multiboot plugin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364659) and installed the CM9 12-2-2012 build on 2nd boot.
However when I updated the 2nd boot to CM9 12-11-2012 build, the 2nd boot stays stuck on the red M logo. Because of that, I installed the "kernel" on 2nd boot which was supposed to boot the build. Unfortunately, it only resulted to a boot loop for my CM9.
When I tried to boot from 2nd init (which still has my WajkIUI), it suddenly stopped booting as well. I tried to recover using my recovery file but to no avail, 2nd init still won't boot.
So my phone's condition now is: it is able to run CWM recovery on both 2nd boot and 2nd init. Will I still be able to boot my 2nd init? Will I still be able to restore to my latest recovery file? If yes, can anyone guide me on how to fix my 2nd init boot?
Thank you very much everyone!
I think its mentioned in the defy cm9 thread.
Its not possible to flash any newer version including 111207 in second Boot.
i think i made the same mistake too...
but i dont know wether i had to reinstal primary boot...
you could try to flash miui on primary boot so that you can do atleast anything...
if you want cm9:
wipe everything
instal cm9 111207.zip
instal cm9 111213.zip
im using cm9 and everything is great, except camera, wich in fact isnt working at all
hope it helped, greetz esok

Thanks! Now I'm running the Dec13 build
I guess it's about the kernel which messed up. Motorola is so *** for locking the bootloader.

Think this doesn't work either, because of the Kernelchange
but maybe you could post the result of this test.

Yes, apparently installing a 2.2 based rom on the virtual system doesn't work (won't get past the M logo again) even when I apply the 2.2 kernel on the virtual system.
So I guess we're stuck on manually choosing our main rom. I also have my data on my older rom (not to mention, app highscores, etc) and I miss my defy's camera, but the ICS rom is so hard to resist.

titanium backup works, so maybe as a tip for you:
install old rom,
make backup,
install ics,
restore backup,
some data may be back
Yes, I tried that before but for some reason, during restore, Ti force closes on my ICS.
Anyway, I'm fine without my old data for now Thanks Esok

try removing the battery. then put it back in and power up. see if it boots up. depending on which cm7 rom you were using, there's a known "stuck in boot" problem and removing battery method will overcome it.
^ Yes, try removing the battery and restarting the phone. One other solution could be applying the 2.2 Kernel after the installation of CM7 (only if you are using Defy and the base ROM of CM7 is 2.2) because I tried installing a CM7 nightly and had to apply the kernel
Kernal
I have a Defy I tried flashing to a few different versions of CM7, but it keeps stopping on the boot logo. I tried flashing from stock, so do I have to change my kernal? If so, how?

are you saying you were still on stock rom and you tried to install cm7? what was your stock rom and have you flashed any full sbf? what were the steps you did to install cm7?
Yeah, I was running the stock 2.2 and tried installing CM7.
I rooted my phone, then installed 2ndinit boot loader. Wiped caches/factory reset and used CWM to install from a .zip file on the SD card.
No idea how to set up RSDLite..
to install CM7 follow the steps in this faq :

so far so good. could be the rom you were flashing. were you trying to flash the nightlies by any chance? all the latest nightlies do not come with the kernel. you either have to flash the stable release first, or the cm7-kernel-signed.zip, inorder to have the correct kernel before you can flash the nightlies.
do not flash any full gb sbf or you can get yourself in trouble.
Hi there,
I haven't flashed a new Android ROM in a while on my good old HD2.
Things got changed...
I have magldr installed, and I also just installed CWM and seems to work fine too.
And I partitioned my SD card with a 1GB ext4 partition.
When I flashed a ROM in CWM, and I want to boot it, it keeps being stuck in the bootscreen of the ROM after magldr loaded it.
And yes, I have been waiting like 30 minutes, because I know the first boot takes a while, but not 30 minutes...
I have this issue with every Android ROM, and I am wondering what the problem could be, because I'm already struggling with this for lots of hours, but still haven't find any solution.
Windows Phone 7 via DAF.exe seems to work fine though, so my guess it that there is something wrong in partitions? but I am not sure at all.
I hope anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!

Well I am not sure about that actually :O
I also tried a magldr partition of 445MB.
And I used the Recovery_400M.
But CWM looks to work fine.
I tried again.
Want to flash this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275119

With HD2 ToolKit I made a 175MB System partition, and a 8MB cache size.
Guess what?
It seems that it's booting now
Still waiting till it's fully booted, but I'll keep you updated.
Thanks kylew1212, you made me understand the 5/175/8 formats.

You can do it yourself, open the recovery folder, right klick on flash.cfg, open with editor. Now you can change the values of "boot yboot", "system ya", "cache ya" how it is on the Discription for the rom you would to flash. Now you must save it.
That´s all !!

But for what is this?
Because I got the ROM fully working now with the way I described before.
I also get stuck on bootscreen with every rom that i flash with CWM.
Until i flashed a new kernel today i didnt have that problem (using ThypooN CM7). When it got stuck i did a task 29 to try and fix it.
Maybe i am missing something, this is what i do using HD2 Toolkit:
task 29
flash 2.15.50.14 radio (at first i didnt do that but i makes no difference)
install MAGLDR
install CWM
flash rom with CWM
I am using a 150/5 patiton for the ROM (recomemded in the OP), i also tried 160/10 but again it doesnt work.
CWM installs the zip normally. When i try to boot the rom it just gets stuck at bootscreen. I tried leaving it for 20 min and it still doesnt work.
I even installed wm6.5 and did the whole process of installing MAGLDR again to see if that helps but the same thing happens.
I also tried using cLK and got stuck again with every rom.
cLK, MAGLDR and CWM all work just fine, that is why i have no idea why the rom gets stuck at bootscreen.
It seems to me that the CWM doesnt install the rom corectly. The only rom that does work is AmeriCan Android becouse i doesnt need CWM.
Is there anything i can do to fix it?
Thanks

I'm not sure what's going on. I've flashed many roms with cwm. Never a problem. However if you think cwm is your problem try another recovery, there are a few more available now. I've started using team win recovery project (twrp)
One other thing. It is not necessary to reflash the radio everytime. Once it is installed it does not uninstall unless you change to a different radio.
Sent from my HD2 using xda premium
I also flashed many roms with CWM and i never had a problem before.
Now i tried twrp with clk (clean install with task 29) and it flashes the rom normally. After i reboot i get the bootscreen, then i should get the boot animation and all i get is a black screen (the backlight is on). Few seconds later the phone vibrates like it booted but the screen is still black. If i restart the phone the same thing happens again.
I guess i'll have to use wp7
Thanks anyway

It was the last thing i tried before flashing wp7. In wp7 OP it says that you have to install wm6.5, let it boot and then install MAGLDR. The important thing here is that you dont use task 29.
I installed wm6.5, let it boot, then install MAGLDR and CWM (without task 29) and now it works perfectly

Hey everyone, I've spent the best part of today trying to flash Sense ROMs and every time they won't boot. Just wondering if there's a minimum SD Card size you need to use or something like that, as even after a Task 29 and full reinstall of magldr, recovery and radio I keep getting the same errors
I'm using the 2GB SD that came with the phone and putting 1024MB of that into an SD-ext partition using recovery. I also have a 250MB recovery partition (above the minimum needed).
I can get it to boot up to the bootanimation but that's about it. So far I've tried AndroPlus (boots to a black and white screen which reboots my phone), Energy ROM (runnymede port, gets to a bootanimation and stays there indefinitely - I've left it about an hour with nothing at all) and TeamBlueDroid's runnymede port (which won't boot at all).
I also have a problem which means any MIUI rom wont boot and GB ROMs won't use my data connection because I'm a UK T-Mobile customer and T-Mobile are sharing their 3G signal with Orange, which my phone doesn't like
So I'm left with CM9 which I've just re-installed which is now stuck at the GO GO GO! screen on magldr... Even when it does work, the battery drains in less than half a day
If anyone can help with any of these things PLEASE tell me!
THANKS!
In my opinion i think you need a bigger sd card. Also you need to make sure you have the correct partition. If the rom asks for a partition of 5/330/8 the you need to have that partition, not 5/330/5. The rom WILL NOT BOOT if it isnt correct all the way through.I hope this helps

one more thing...make sure you read the instructions for each rom completely. certain roms ask for sd-ext of 2/3/4 just for the rom to work correctly and to have enough internal memory for the rom to run correctly
Ah thanks very much! I think that might be where I'm stumbling, because I do set 2 of those partitions to the right size every time using the NAND toolkit, but I never see an option to change the boot partition. I'll look into it and see what I can do, thanks
Also yeah I think I'm going to buy an 8GB SD card, but the problem is I'm going to be upgrading to an HTC One S in a few months so it'll be redundant then, so I was trying to hold off buying a new card... I guess if it has to be done then oh well
You can open a recovery zip file with notepad and adjust the partition as needed per rom. this cannot be done with hd2 toolkit. 8gb card is only 15 bucks at walmart...get one! its always good to have a few lying around
