Post your alpha ICS bugs & experiences - G2 and Desire Z General

The first semi-functional pre-alpha versions of ICS were released on the DEV forum in November. Since that board is only for development discussion I wanted to make a thread to discuss about our user experiences with those ROMs. How do you like them?
So this it the place to discuss the ROMs. Also remember to mention which ROM you tested.
Desire S ICS AOSP port
Version 4r1.2 - (11th Dec 2011)
+ Mostly working and stable
+ SW keyboard and PIN now working
+ Low mic volume possibly fixed in 4r1.2
- Camera not working
- Gallery bugs
- Poor APN list
- Poor HW acceleration
- Scandic keyboard layout not working
Andromadus ROM
Version 3 - (12th Dec 2011)
+ APN list
- Unstable and lots of bugs
- Bootloop after connecting to WiFi
- Gallery FC
- Poor HW acceleration
Andromadus bugtracker

I found it was semi-functional, wifi kinda worked (picked up networks but didn't connect, keyboard issues)
Hardware keyboard had issues, my 'B' key didn't work, didn't manage to get the soft keyboard up.
Accelerometer was all over the place. couldn't get it out of landscape mode.
Had a few FC's trying to access different settings.
Can't wait for a more stable build though!
-Nipqer

Mate, can you rename it (or make a new thread in general) to be a bugtracker too? Like something along the lines of Post your ICS BUGS/Experiences (bugtracker).
Thanks, much appreciated, will link to this thread

Did that now! Though at this point we should probably be listing things that are working instead of things that are not working But I will keep a list of bugs of different ROMs.

This is just for general users to talk about the ROMs.
Personally I havent switched as the bugs are still huge but the progress is looking great Lets hope something stable gets out soon or Janurary arrives (CM9)

BTW, can the software "buttons" for back, home, applications be disabled? We already have physical buttons for that so for us users it is pointless and just takes up screen.

Same experience here with the Andromadus ROM. I didn't stick with it for long, since I couldn't get data working, and I couldn't input all the required APN settings without a working keyboard and "B" key. Doesn't help when my carrier's name has a "B" right in the middle of it.
At least the touchscreen input was flawless. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this develops.

I didn't have any software buttons, and all four hardware buttons worked normally.

Thx for a bootable and partially working rom u guys! Now here to report some issues (that were expected).
-Slow (because of no HW acceleration yet? or more to it?).
-Keyboard is partially working (Not working: "B", alt, lights (lights on when kb is closed), u have to hold shift to work.
-Home gets stuck in landscape (partial fix is open kb, phone app, home button, close keyboard--but will go back to landscape with certain actions such as a Options pop-up).
-Radio(s): Data icon (3G/E) is intermittent (random appear/disappear). Cell data not working. Wifi turns on, but doesn't obtain IP address.. It will save to AP tho. No Bluetooth
-SW keyboard doesn't pop up (shows in settings and in notification bar/slide-down)
-Wallpapers doesn't scroll when switching home screens
-Signal strength (status bar and settings) doesn't work
-SD card: For some reason its busy/not working (via Music or Gallery)
Will update as I play around with it.... Done with it, and now restored CM7 (#263).. But those are the main things I found not to be working.. Can't wait to test later builds!

Oh sh**!!!! this si the best place for having my 10 post to be able to post on dev thread
I on ubuntu 10.10 with a 3.0.1 kernel
I use Vmware server to mount a virtual disk to put android stuff. So if my system broke i still got my stuff on the vritual disk
I got my proper build of ICS for vision build from Andromadus's GIT
and i use lasted pershoot kernel 2.6.35. Hardware Acceleration was allready writen and actived on this kernel, but ICS H/W-A are not optimized for all device. Cheap OpenGL hack was done in framework!
-My SD Card is monting
-Sensor dosen't work. So display is landscape all the time
-WI-FI is working. BUT 3G are not working!
-LiveWallpaper are broken too!
-Hardware Key ''Home, Menu, Back, Find'' are working

Well, I've tried the port, and I'm pretty impressed. Has our own aosp build made any great strides forward from the alpha build?

Nonetheless, still a port.
And no, it isnt pure ASOP for the Desire Z.

That Desire S port felt pretty nice... when I had the SIM removed, could not enter PIN at all. At least it shows that ICS is well worth the wait.

The Virtuous team (specifically eViL D, I think) is working on a port and will probably be released in the [somewhat] near future. Keeping checking the dev section or their website.

I'm aware of that one, but I never recommend only partially functional ROMs. The Virtuous team's will be fully functional and stable, hence why it's take a while to finish.

Im waiting for their port as well. I like Virtuous Unity a lot but the scaling issues sorta bug me. Seeing that the screen size from the mytouch4g slide is roughly the same size as ours it should fit perfectly.

The MT4G Slide has the same resolution screen, so no re-scaling is necessary. What scaling issues do you experience in VU? I experience none. There was something small with the Calender widget, but that's been fixed in the latest version.

[INFO] Drew Garin's ICS Flavours; On Screen Buttons and Hardware Buttons - Alpha

Hello All,
Here is Drew Garin's ICS AOSP builds on his main site, it comes in two flavours:
No onscreen buttons and, onscreen buttons.
The onscreen buttons build is the same experience you will have on the Galaxy Nexus. Drew states that this build it more stable, and recommends this build if you want a solid ICS experience.
The no onscreen buttons build works as you would expect. It takes advantage of the Nexus S hardware buttons.
I will quote everything from his site below
What Works:
Nearly Everything!
USB and ADB
3G Data
Audio
Hardware Accel
Camera, Panorama
GPS (Unconfirmed currently I’m in a 13 story brick building)
Face Unlock
Wifi
Bluetooth
Tethering and Hotspot
Data Usage
NFC
Pretty much everything
Not Working:
Camcorder
Not all applications are currently compatible with ICS on Crespo. As a work around you can always use appbrain or download from the internet.
Download With On Screen Buttons (Overall Stable):
mirror 1: http://www.multiupload.com/BWE16F2YTH
mirror 2: dg-ics-on-screen
Download No Buttons (Experimental):
mirror 1: http://www.multiupload.com/TESISLS5MV
No Button Build Issues:
Tethering and Hotspot Does Not Work
There May Be Some Other Issues
On Screen Is More Stable
GITHUB: (link coming soon when all sources are up)
Kernel Credit Of: Kwiboo (for the time being until my kernel is done)
Wifi and Bluetooth Fix Credit: Kwiboo
Install Instructions:
Boot into Clockwork Recovery
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache
-wipe dalvik
-install from zip
-reboot and enjoy!!
Notes:
Do not turn on 2D acceleration on in settings -> developer.
In spare parts turn off compatibility mode and restart for downloaded apps to work better in ics.
Need a root explorer like tool? I suggest using jrummy’s root browser.
The On Screen Button Version doesn’t lag as much and provides that ICS smooth scroll you wish to see.

ICS DEV User Feedback

I saw a lot of complaints, so thought that there should be a feedback thread, for the time being for members of Incredible boards to use this.
Here, if you can, state what alpha version you are running, if not the latest, with your concerns, joy, etc.
And the Developers of ICS can see this and make improvements on what needs to be worked on and what is working perfectly...varying from one user's phone to another.
**If mods feel that this is not needed or a complete utter waste, then you may delete it. Thought I'd help the people out by posting this for people trying out the ICS for the Incredible
^^
I think this is a good idea. However, I would remove the link to the dev thread in the OP. I think many "unknowledgable" users will simply click on that link and we may be right back where we started.
Just my 2 cents worth . . .
I agree with taking the link off of the page to lessen confusion. That said it was awesome to see ICS boot up and whatnot on my INC!!
Removed.
Also, people can post alpha version links here so people arent asking for it there.
Alpha 3 ran pretty good, less lag, imo.
I really want to see the camera functional on it, but that may take time....?
This would probably be better suited for the general discussion forum because you are looking for feedback on the development and not actually providing any development in this thread.

What gapps do you have loaded? Most likely the ones you have are not build for Android 4.0 so they won't work.

Please use this GAPPS...this was posted by "tiny" himself.
http://db.tt/OJKTipDb
I used this same one.
One thing i forgot to mention....you may get a random restart using Alpah3 w/ the GAPPS flashed...but it should be stable after that.
Alpha 3 works quite well for me for it being such an early build. It is slow, but using ADW and turning off all animations helps a lot. Google apps seem to run the slowest. XDA, Words With Friends, Facebook, and Twitter run as smooth as usual. Another little trick I've just discovered is to use a different keyboard. In some apps, it's more responsive than the stock keyboard. I hated the red lines under each word when using the android keyboard (can be disabled by turningg off corrections/suggestions), and sometimes it just could not keep up. Thumb Keyboard 4 works great though.
I have seen a few random reboots, but have noticed they only happen when I search for something within an app. If i search for someone in twitter or an app in the market, it sometimes reboots. Not always though.
So far so good. Ive been using it for 48 hours now and am loving it. I can't wait to see what it can do with everyhing functioning properly with hardware acceleration.
One request: is there a way to get the on screen back/home/running apps buttons to work so we can see what its like? That would be pretty cool to try out

I'm not that eager to get them. I'm perfectly happy with whatever I'm given. I'm just happy to be able to use it at all.
Good things come to those who wait.
Edit- I don't know if that thing about ROMs needing time to "settle" is true or not, but it seems like this one has finally settled. I haven't had a reboot in hours, and though it's obvious there is no acceleration, everything seems to be runningg very smoothly. Its not fast, but it's not unusable.
This work has really come a long way in such a short time. I'm enjoying it very much.

I've been a fan of him and his great work since his first ROM for the note. Flashed all versions of his ROMS and most were very stable.
He is a very helpful guy and I have huge respect for him for being friendly and nice and patient with everyone.
About his latest work, ParanoidAndroid it's an amazing effort to bring one of the best ideas out there to our device. I'm running it on my phone and I have to say the experience is great. This will just continue in the next versions being worked on and I'm very excited for the future development of this ROM.

The only troubles he mentions are:
Camera options looks cutted when "hide navbar" is enabled
Keyboard popup layout looks a bit weird, this will be fixed soon
Swap camera not working on tab mode, workaround is to press menu key, and then switch camera.
His CM9 ROM had working cameras and hardly any bugs!

Only grouse - why is this not Samsung Official Rom. This Rom is what should have been the original Samsung ROM for NOTE. Our Note begs for this kind of a rom.

Mass Storage works but you'll need this app to activate it (extract it and install the APK). otherwise you'll be usig MTP which is fine with me.

it detects when you plug the phone to PC and shows an icon in the status bar that upon being clicked shows your drives on the PC.
You also get an icon in the drawer in case you can't see the notification bar icon.
ParanoidAndroid has been running great so far. It's really fast and very stable so far. Looking forward to future updates!
The two I's are the best Android has given us yet. ICS obviously and Imilka. Just respect him and his efforts from my heart. Really very happy to see a new ROM from him and love the concept.

Yes I know!! Imilka rocks!! I just got home. It time to flash ParanoidAndroid on my Note
Ok, I tried ParanoidAndroid on my Note... One word!!!
AWESOME
The dpi per app is the best feature. I love it. I can't thank Imilka enough.
Awesome indeed. The new feature Per App Layout where you'll choose between phone and tablet mode and furthermore define the density per app is just wow.
Best ROM experience I ever had.

I'd also be happy to join demkantor in testing, and since I've not used Sense roms in the past, maybe I'll go easier on you,

sent you pm with link. thanks for testing.
colsed for testing
I would like to thank the testers that responded, i hope we can provide a very fluid smooth rom for you. at this point we have enough testers. we will likely open up to one or two more people for additional testing soon.
thank you,
Team Blackout
i would be open to testing later on (cant right now due to lack of time and need my phone working). I see NRGZ28 is part of the team, im currently using his sense 3.5 rom, and (no disrespect meant for the rest of the team) but i trust him cause of the good job he has done with his other rom. So im sure that if this is not already a great rom, it will surely be.
Thanks to all the team for developing for our device, and will be glad to test as soon as i have time on my hands!

PD: any chance of you guys making a sense 4 rom for the vision?? it would be nice!
I can give it a try and see if I can break it if you still need people.

If there are more spots for testing, my DZ is currently my spare phone. Can test functionality except for calls/data connections.
I can do the volunteers, and testing
request to test Blackout ICS
Hello,
I know you said testing was closed but if you reopen testing / have some spare slots / etc. then I'd appreciate Blackout ICS for my Desire Z. (It's S-OFF, etc. ready)
I already have Blackout ICS for my Desire HD (thanks) so I can compare functionality between models.
Also, I have written apps for Android (albeit it in Java), ported adb/fastboot to FreeBSD (which I understand to kernel level).
I have particular interest in having Orange's "Signal Boost" running on ICS, as I have on my DHD.
Please let me feel the love!
Thanks,
Dominic
since a few days I have a spare DZ I can use for all sorts of testing. So if there is still a spot open or you are reopening some spots. I would like to offer that phone up for you guys

I really would like to volunteer, too. Also im using your blackout 3.0.0 and i think this is the best sense rom I've ever used, and i would like to say the problems that I noticed.
I'm using the blackout3.0 rom approximately for one month, and these are the problems I have encountered:
*Wifi hotspot not working
*Screen rotate issues
*FM radio not working (for me)
*Hw keyboard lights not working (actually works for just half-a-second when opening)
*Too shiny menu lights
*Compass is distorted
(If I remember/notice more I will put it here)
Since I'm a SenseUI fan, I will be enjoy testing.
Thanks again for the rom.
Sorry for bad English
