When the Galaxy Note powers up, it shows a video and makes some noisy music. how can i suppress it?
I was wondering the same thing last night! Seems kind of ridiculous to have a loud jingle upon start up that's impossible to silence.
Seriously......wow is the phone really that good that you guys need to complain about the sound the phone makes when it starts? I can't beleive how many people complain about small stuff like this......

They are asking for a fix with an issue that is easily understandable...to be honest, you're complaining more than they are lol
Have you tried to put it in silent mode before restarting?

It is a fair complaint, because you can't silence it.
If your GNote decides to crash/reboot during a meeting......
I have to find the post, but if you are rooted, you can delete the ogg file with the startup sound.
For rooted users to stop the startup sound...
\system\etc\
Rename these file(s)
PowerOn.wav
or
1_Power_on.ogg
or both
settings-sound-volume. Set system volume to zero. it does not seem to affect anything else.
That worked great, thanks! I used Root Explorer to rename those two files. And yes, having the phone making noise at inappropriate times is exactly what I wanted to avoid.
Edit, I already renamed the files before trying the system volume. That would be interesting if the boot audio really is the only thing affected by "system" volume.

I have been using that method on my galaxy s for 18 months and never found anything else affected by it. Seems to work the same on my Note.

Thanks, it worked for me too, but instead of root explorer, which you need to pay for, I used ES explorer, free, enabling root access in the config menu.
that's reassuring. When I read about nulling the system volume, I am so sure I'm going to miss some notification.
Never Worked For Me On I717R
The funny thing is that my power on/boot up sound never worked. After I rooted I noticed both the 1_Power_On.ogg (plays sound) & the PowerOn.wav (no sound) in the etc folder. I am sure that the second one overrode the 1st, causing no sound on start up. I just removed the second & renamed the 1st to PowerOn.wav, now I have the sound.

Anyone? Found one thread for DK05 and a bunch of 2.1... can anyone point me the right direction?
I'm still amazed that this "feature" has made it to 2.2...
hi. don't know if you've gotten an answer to this because the answer might be already posted w/flashing from clockwork.
but if you don't want to go down that route, this is something to consider. For me, what bugs most is the sound and not so much the screen turning on giving me a notification. The sound wakes me up at night. so to prevent the sound from be played, i just renamed the sound file so it doesn't play.
Using Root Explorer (which can be bought from the market), go into the "system" folder. Then, Media/Audio/ui. Make sure your Mounted r/w in root explorer. Rename (or remove/delete/move elsewhere) "TW_Battery_caution.ogg"
Now, when it comes on, the sound wont come on. It's a half solution but i hope it helps.
I have been using a lot of roms lately.. and loved everyones work over here except one big gripe I have.... I m sure lot of you might agree and disagree with me.. but I just want to throw it out there.
My issue is with boot animation sounds and ringtones.
CAN WE NOT CHANGE THE BOOT ANIMATIONS SOUNDS AND RINGTONES IN EVERY ROM AND KEEP IT STOCK.
and leave it at user selected ringtone and stock boot animations and sounds. And provide a separate .zip for boot sounds and ringtones if anyone wants, instead of giving them nobootanimation sounds.
I have flashed Viper roms couple of times and everytime I end up with these sounds which makes me look weird if the phone dies/rings/shuts down at work with default sounds.
I flashed synergy yesterday and today my phone rang at work and every one just gave me a glance like.."What do they call you....???" (due to the default ringtone)
Just a thought.. if it makes anyones life easier..
Thanks!
You don't like added ringtones, notifications, and alarms that come packaged with apps as well? I can understand the boot sounds, but not extra sounds that help you customize your phone.
And the custom boot animations are kind of the branding you have to deal with for using someone's work you didn't pay for. These developers work hard and most (essentially all) only get paid through donations. Having that boot/shutdown screen with their custom logo or image is their form of advertisement. I've had plenty of friends see my phone while it was rebooting or whatnot and ask what I was running. I've converted a few and brought them to the modding community =).
I guess I could understand where you're coming from if these developers forced us to pay for the product they deliver, but they don't.
In SRF:
Boot sounds: The sweet sound of silence. Ain't it grand?
Boot animations: Yeah, it's our logo... If you don't like it, flash another animation. If we didn't put in some kind of bootanimation.zip, you'd just get... crap. And how often do you reboot your phone, anyway?
Ringtones: The full stock library is there. But the default? It's a phone. Shocking.
If you ask me, a ringing phone sounds more normal than whatever crap Samsung defaults to.
make your own rom. Or customize the one you got... there's a secret sub forum called Themes and Apps.. don't tell anyone else about it, but you might want to check it out before somebody really rips you a new one..
kOnane that was a very classy retort nicely played

seriously, anyone that has a phone at work that doesn't have it on vibrate is an idiot. and that would solve all these issues. its called silent mode, best feature of the phone. maybe you guys are 16 (its a great time, so no offense) but other than that, ringtones and nonsense like that would be the least of my concerns.

These are all things well within the end users control. Just check your ringtone, that's not the developers responsibility. If you want download my midNIGHT ROM and just pull the extras folder out. I ported over the Rhodium ringtones awhile back. There are a ton of zips in there that should work on most ROMs. k0nane is right someone will always complain.......
My only complaint is loud, obnoxious boot sounds, which I havent heard in quite a while... Viper had a pretty crazy one a couple months back. not really a big deal, as I know we can change it, or just use a diff. rom... as far as boot animations, im all for them, and if people want to brand their work, more power to em.
I have a well used option in Startup Manager that dumps startup and shut sown sounds. It absolutely amazes me how many people think that devs should do whatever they demand. Sorry guys, but these are volunteer operations and they do what they want. If you don't like it vote with your feet...

I looked around the forum briefly, but I didn't find anything.
I'm currently on CM7 and I really don't care for the system sounds too much. Can someone running a sense Rom grab some files for me? I think you could just copy/paste them to the sd using astro. I'd like the alarm "snooze" (I sleep through cm7s buzzer sound ),the notification sound "major" (sounds like the super Mario 1up shroom), and there's a ringtone that sounds like a digital phone. I can't think of the name, but it's not the old school sounding ring.
Any help would be appreciated.

Download one of the several Sense ROMs on this site, then open the zip file, and go into the media folder and take all the sound files you want.

Duh, I should have known that. It's been a very, very long day...
I still have zips for stock and liberated Roms, will have to dig them out tomorrow.
Thanks!
So I am pretty ecstatic over all with the performance of my Moto X pure, and a little impressed by the moto voice command function. I can access just about everything on the phone by voice alone, except there's one problem. Everytime the phone understands one of my commands, it responds with a very loud and obnoxious sounding "bloing!"
I can even tolerate the robotic voice of the Moto lady, who sounds like my 3rd grade teacher, but the response sound is just too much. Does anybody know what folder it is in so I can nuke it, or is there a way to turn that sound off.? I looked in the media files, and in the notification files, of both the phone and the SD card, looking for a matching sound but did not find it there. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
The response chime is connected to the media volume control. Keeping the media volume down has helped me a bit but it's still no fun. Also, I've noticed that it uses the old Google Now sounds so when I initiate a search it gives a loud "old GNow" confirmation then a more pleasant "new GNow" tone. If I could at very least do away with the double confirm, I'd be happy.
I wonder what would happen if we found the folder containing that sound and nuked the file.
do you know what the actual file name for that sound is?
Anybody here have a better idea?
Thanks

My question is how else would you know the phone is responding to your commands. For example if your phone is across the room.

I don't know, every other function in android seems to have both visual, and audio option.
They could just have a flashing screen,, the problem is, when I want to use Moto X voice, that sound, is way louder, then most of the other confirmation sounds used in speech to text conversion. If you turn the media volume down, the female voice is reduced in volume along with the confirmation sound.
Or they could just have an option, like most of the other audio in android, that allows me to choose a sound.
Which brings me, to my quest. Or question
if it is a regular audio file, or a .ogg or MP3 or MP4, I should be allowed to go to the containing folder, and simply drop in an audio file of the same kind into that folder, right?
Anyway the "bloing" is annoying, has no individual volume control, and makes me look like less than the coolest kid on the block, which is what I so desperately crave, which is why I spent so much money to buy the coolest gear.
Please help my quest for coolness
From previous experience, sometimes these sound files are inside the apk file itself. Really no way to change or get rid of it unless you start decompiling them, remove/add your own file. Samsung used to do it with their screen unlock sounds. Looked forever in folders and found nothing. One day while searching inside the apk, found it. Just a bit of help to maybe help your search
This is a file from a viperaudio sound mod, and I'm having issues with calls (people on the other line hear an echo).
I already asked in the thread, and contacted the dev, but I didn't get any answer.
There's a way to solve this issue by deleting the file, but it harms the audio quality.
That's why I'm wondering if there is any way to edit this file?
Check second post
Actually, I've made some new discoveries about this issue.
The libaudcal.so file is present on our devices in vendor/lib.
If this file is deleted, then it has the same effect as copying it from another device (installing the one from the old viper sound mod).
That means - incredible huge bass on speakers, but issue in calls, the other person on the call hears an echo, and the in call volume is stuck at a constant low value.
Now, what's interesting is that this issue is NOT present when making calls via viber, facebook messenger etc. apps.
I've tried downloading different dialers, and using different rom versions, but no difference.
It seems to me that there are filters included in this file to purposely cutoff low frequencies, and that calls are broken when the original file isn't used.
I hate to give up, so please if anyone has ideas on how this could be resolved, I'd appreciate it.

Maybe you know how to increase output sound to audiotrack in android 7.1.2 without that file ?
