ok, hi all been a while I hope your all well.
I have become frustrated with my arc, and the fact that there are only 5 pages on the home screen, I Get my widgets perfect, then I have to reshuffle everything if I want to add something new, is there a way around this I've been searching but can't see one, please help. Thanks, Amanda
I was frustrated too with this and also default launcher constantanly re-arranging my icons. So I stopped using it.
So after evaluating other launchers, finally settled on Go Launcher on my arc.
Infinite home screens and fancy transitions effects.

Which one work on Xperia X10?and which one is the best?
thx all
I use slidescreen pro, though I would use adw launcher or launcher pro if either of them worked on x10. Also, the slidescreen dev has apparently gone awal, doesn't bother me though, it works flawlessly for me
i still havent seen a launcher as fast as the stock one.

i'll watch the review from youtube...
There's a free version on the market to try out which I would definitely recommend before buying. It's very different from regular android. No widgets or shortcuts.
Of replacers that work on x10, zeam would be my second choice, its a bit sense-y. Though gets a but sluggish if you go a while without a reboot
Home++ is the best among the lot........try it.

Tried almost all.My opinion is that Zeam & Home++ are best. And hide the blue taskbar that it doesnt suiys to my likes
Helix launcher runs fine for me. It's not bad and some people are saying that it actually conserves battery life if you use it. So you might want to look into that.

Biggest disadvantage (for me that is), is that it only has 3 screens... I've been looking for an alternative the past few days (and so I found this forum), I think I'm gonna try the HelixLauncher Donut.
Will post when I've tested it for some time.
im running helix launcher since yesterday and my battery time has maybe doubled!!
Helix Launcher Donut HERE, the best i ever tested!

I have one of the screens empty, one with the clock and timescpape and another one with 4 shortcuts and the widget with wifi/bt/gps.
How 3 are not enough?
Anyway, i'll give Helix a try, maybe will improve the battery life

After installing a bunch of apps, the menu isn't so useful anymore IMHO. So, I place shortcuts on the home screen, to have quick acces to my most used apps.
At the moment, I've got like 4 shortcuts to games, and shortcuts to apps like Market, Barcode Scanner, YouTube, ASTRO etc. Moreover, I want to have my agenda (SmoothCalendar) on my home screen as well. I had to remove the clock to have SmoothCalandar and TimeScape on the same screen...
There's just not enough space

Well, excepting the widgets, how is helping you to scroll 5 times left or right looking for a shortcut instead of scrolling up or down?
Personally I have tried Panda, Crazy, Zeam, Helix... Probably a few more.
The first two are nice if you like applying full themes (icons, bars, different backgrounds). I liked the possibility to slide up/down between screens in crazy. But in the end, both these two apps slowed my system down too much.
Love the docker in Helix, but at the moment I prefer the 9 screens that Zeam offers. No, I don't slide 5x sideways a lot. But I've collected everything that I need at work on one screen, for training in another, home entertainment on the third, etc.
I have tried SlideScreen a bit, looks very different and professional. However, I couldn't find a way to use other email accounts than gmail, so I gave it up.

Zeam for me.
Zeam - super light weight. HelixDonut had FC's once in awhile.
Ok so I am a great fiddler and pusher of buttons but I am not good on the techy side so I am asking...
1) Which one is best - ADW or Helix
2) Does your phone have to be rooted
3) If I don't like it, can I switch back to the SE stock one
4) Is it easy.... can I mess it up!?!
I have looked around at various threads but they mostly seem to be on rooted phones. I have watched Youtube videos demonstrating them both and they look pretty cool. So basically I just wanted some reassurance before I go off and jump into something a bit out of my depth.
Thanks!!
I prefer Helix, your phone doesn't have to be rooted for either, you can install it side by side with the stock launcher and switch between them and they're installed just like anything else so you can't really screw it up.
ADW has more features and is generally better but it force closes too much and tends to stuff up the quick settings widget after watching a divx movie - I have to reboot phone to get it to function again.
Helix is good but when you enter the app drawer you have to press the home button if you want to exit the app drawer as it doesn't have a virtual home key.
I use the stock home launcher as its the smoothest and least bug ridden.
Both Helix and ADW allow you to select the number of homescreens from 2 - 7, the stock one only has 3.
ADW for me. Give all 3 a try, but it's really down to personal preference. Install all 3 along with Home Switcher and try them out to see what suits you best.
ADW as it's better than Helix. But then again it's a personal preference

I prefer ADW. I used to use helix but swapped. I went to go back to the stock home but then I remembered that there is no option to have five rows instead of four. I find five rows better because I can fit everything I need onto the screen
I have no idea if helix can do that though.
That is also personal preference though as not everyone would want that extra row
Thanks for the replies guys. Think I will be doing some downloading tomorrow and playing around - I don't think my head is in the right place tonight. Thanks for the info on the Home Switcher too.
Basically I was looking for the extra number of screens so I can sort out my apps/widgets rather than just having it all in the app drawer and having to scroll thru. Does that sound lame!? Or maybe just a bit OCD.
I like the ability to view all your screens in miniature then quick select which one you want (its one of the things I liked about the HTC Desire when I was trying to choose but it was brown and ugly so X10 won).
Edit... OMG there are loads of different themes for ADW too. Choices, choices!
I used ADW for week then switched to Stock SE. I had issue with ADW it is not that smooth while scrolling program. I have swipe couple of time to get page swipe
Ok so I had a glass of wine, cleared my head and bit the bullet and downloaded ADW and Home Switcher.
Can't get the sense ui thing to work. Don't know what I am doing wrong... any clues?
You need to go into system preferences and bind the home button to previews.
Also, make sure sense previews are active under previews settings.

Oh for goodness sake, its sooo simple when you know how! I had the Ui sense ticked but hadn't done the home button thing.
Thank you so much for the quick response.
No problem my friend.
Swyped from my rooted X10i using Tapatalk.
Just discovered another way... just long press the little desktop dots and it gives you the preview screens. So now I can have my home button set to my default screen.
I think I need to get a life... been playing with this since I got home from work (altho I did manage to heat a ready meal up for the hubby!!) but I am loving it so far.
Just got Beautiful Widget too and skinned that.... well actually I've done about 6 different permutations of clock and weather but I am now happy.
Thanks for the support today, I wouldn't have taken the plunge without you!
ADW all the way - tried Helix - and it was good - went for ADW - which I didn't like at first - but that was because I didn't know what I was doing... once I'd switch the Samsung app drawer off and sussed out the settings I needed then I quickly reaslised that ADW is in fact the dogs b011ocks!!..
Adw does rock.
Swyped from my rooted X10i using Tapatalk.
And everyone complains abouit ADW force closing yet I have never had it force close on me...and I have never had any problems with the widgets either.
is it me, but i cant find helix on the market, or do you hav the be rooted ?
You are not wrong... I couldn't find it either. Glad I plumped for ADW first then!
Edit.... try herehttp://helixproject.ruqqq.sg/

Me too, until I disabled the "Horizontal Drawer" setting, never had an issue since.
ive tried all of them. if you want to switch between the ones you have all you have to do is not select "use by default" and when you press the home button it will let you choose between them. thats what i did until i figured out that i liked ADW more.
like everyone says just take off the horizontal scrolling for apps and you will be fine.
i also like you you can have 2 apps next to home that are always on the screen and i like you you can customize them to what ever apps you want by dragging the apps there.
as for the force close thing, its only happened to me once but it went away after a newer version of it came out.
I was wondering if anyone else running launcher pro has a problem with their dock bar being off set when in landscape mode. I tried looking around here and on the launcher pro forums for solution but have come up empty handed.
I attached a screen shot of the issue.
I am wondering if it may be related to a theme you are using. I have been using launcher pro plus for quite a while and have not had this issue, however, I keep customizations really simple.
Good luck!
I thought it might be my theme too, but the problem doesn't show up in ADW launcher. I sould switch back to ADW but the widgets for the calender and friend stream are useful to me.
I had Launcher Pro on CM7 and didn't have any problems....but I never had a theme installed...
Well I gave up. It only does this when I try to use a dock background. So I just keep the dock background to none and its fine.
Wish I could get to work with the backgrounds though they look pretty lol
Guys,
I need to set this up for a grandparent, and I need a launcher that has some "lockdown" mode, where you can set up like 10 buttons, and it can't be messed up. 5 website shortcuts, 3 online radio stations, couple more things, that's it. Grandparent with fat fingers/little knowledge, but very excited to use. Any ideas? Can't use a launcher that can be easily and accidentally changed (buttons dragged, deleted, screen altered, etc). I just need it like a kiosk - rock stable and little options...
Thanks for any ideas
Wp7 launcher might be best. Not sure if you can lock the homescreen. Windows phone seems to be for old people anyways.

AWD/EX has an option to lock home screens. Then has an option to remove the quick button for "unlock homescreen". It cost a couple bucks but might be the best option. and still leave the Android feel.
GO launcher has that option..

Easy to use launcher w/screen lock
Hi,
I've been researching this for my dad too and found the Nemus launcher. Haven't tested it out yet, but looks like it might fit your bill (large icons, can lock screens, can be customized to have only 1 home screen).
It's available via the Google Play store, just search "Nemus."
Good luck and hope I helped.
Big launcher isn't free, but it is designed for the elderly.
Wp7 launcher looks good, but I can't find any info on layout locking, which I need. Go is great, didn't know it had that - and I will look into ADW and the other one too-- thanks for the responses. You all did your part in (indirectly) helping an elderly person across the road today... Well done...
BIG Launcher
BIG Launcher is exactly what you need - you can hide dangerous apps and lock the settings by password. Also it offers the interface with simple design and large texts.
Possibly espeir(iOS) launcher people seem to think iPhone is super user friendly

Whats everyones favorite home screen for the rooted nook? I like ADW but when i shift around icons it studders quite a bit. I tried zeam but i cannot get the text in the launcher to display black to help it stand out.
Just trying to see some other suggestions that people have liked. Feel free to supply screen shots, please!
I really don't see the launcher that often since I launch my 4 most-used apps straight from the QuickMenu:
I've kept it simple with ADW icons and text enlarged when I need it:
Launcher 7
Big icons of home screen are just perfect.
