Problematic MicroSD Card - Epic 4G General

Been experiencing issues with an SD card. this is an 8GB that I was using. I normally remove the SD card from my phone and attach it to the adapter toread from the laptop's SD card reader. one of the times I did this, Windows popped up saying I needed to format the device. I put the card back into my phone, and saw that the SD card came up blank.
I put the card back into my computer and ran PhotoRec to see if I could pull any data off of it...it spit out 3000 something text files all with 2 lines each of garbled characters. I tried using TestDisk (program that comes with PhotoRec), and it says there are no Partitions on the card. I tried to format using the command line formatter, but the filesystem now shows up as RAW. I tried using the official SD Formatter tool, and it says my device is Write Protected (when it is clearly not).
I'm about lost on what to do next, as nothing seems to be working. is there something I'm missing, or am I dealing with a completely dead card?

Try the thread in the stickies right above this:

I already tried this, but thanks for the suggestion. The problem isn't with syncing data, but moreso with not being able to properly repartition the card
At least, that's what I believe the problem would be.

Thought you might try his methods on recovering your data.

I understand. Recovering also wasn't a big issue, as I keep backups of my data every so often. My main major loss is the use of this card.

First, try ejecting and reinserting the card in another device.
Try connecting in Disk Drive mode to save data.
Try using the card in a card reader to save data.
Try using the card in a camera to save data.
If all fails, try to format the card using HD2, card reader or camera.
did you install sd tuneup, speed or whatever its called?
if so uninstall it, cause it makes the storage card dissapear in file explorer among others...
So, I've tried to connect via DISK DRIVE and i succeeded. Ive done backup on my PC and than format the card from PC. But this isn't solving the problem. No way to see the card in the phone except the DISK DRIVE mode.
EDIT: The only one application that see the memory card is FORMAT SD CARD, I formatted the card for second time, this time with that app, but also that didnt helped. The phone says that there is not installed sd card...
I dont want to hard reset the phone, because I've installed so much applications and so much registry optimizations...

Maybe one of those is the culprit.
Hmm, I dont know, it was working, until I went to eat, and when I backed, the card disappeared. :/
someone?
very weird...
Seems like I have a somewhat similar problem but in my case, the storage card is "only" disappearing until I switch off/on or reset my HD2.
Any help would be highly appreciated
Did you change these registry keys?

This might be a silly question but...
...you don't have it plugged into a PC do you?
This problem happens to me only when i scroll to music and photos in Sense tabs.. The application tries to read photos or music from the SD that's when the sdcard disappears after that..
Any suggestions?
Just flashed to 1.48.xxx.x this morning and i still have the same problem..
the missing storage card is a symptom of a problem on your card. What happens is that the Windows Mobile would poll/query the card as it tries to access the file, if the card doesn't respond within the threshold window, the system will assume the card is no longer there, and therefore will 'hide' the storage card in the file explorer.
If your card has a bad memory location, the above will happen. Sometimes a reformat might help, but in my case, I have this problem reoccuring after awhile after a format, so I went on to have it replaced by the dealer.
I hope this is not another bug! The same happened with my 16 GB card. I tried it in another device and it no longer worked in that one either. I just thought it was the sd card faulty.

I've been using it on my HD and it was fine, it was fine on my HD2 too the first 4 days then after that it happened, keeps disappearing...
I'll check another SD card for a day, but until then i'm hoping to get a solution for my 16GB disappearing card..
The only way to get your card working is to hard reset your HD2, very, very weird... :/

im going to by a new one but before that i will try it in my sd card reader on my laptop.

Not reading my SD card!

Inserted my 8GB SD card and the phone isn't reading it. It did then I did a format and now it's not reading it.
Any suggestions? Thanks

Wait, so let me get this straight...
Obviously... as you stated, the storage card wasn't being read by your device prior to your decision to format it, correct?
So, why the unnecessary formatting then...? Be sure that your SD CARD is able to be detected on a desktop PC or laptop. If so, check the SD CARD original format. Make sure it's FAT32. And did you format your card via Apple or a standard PC?
It was working fine on my previous phone. It had few stuff on it so I decided to format it. Then after the format HD2 won't read it. When I plug in the phone it to the computer it would usually read the media card, but in this case it doesn't.
Ok I happened to figure it out. I end up doing a format on the phone and that brought my SD card back to life.
stop reading my sd card
I am too facing the same problem, I have installed the total commander on my sd card and all of a sudden my card top reading.i restart the system and then got the message to format the card in order to read it. i did but still card was not reading. i inserted the card in my pc but still the card was not reading. i bring my hd2 to factory settings and then also not reading the card. then i again format the card but of no use. any help from anyone.

SD cards are notorious for being "wiped" by mishandling them. If I had a dollar for every SD card I lost because I removed it from a PC without ejecting it first, I'd have enough for a Happy Meal at least.
It looks like your install of Total Commander wiped your card. If you have a way of testing it, check to see if it says "0b available". If so, it's junk.
These cards allow unlimited reads, but only about 1,000 writes to a block. They purposefully design them to hide blocks until one goes bad, then a new one comes up, but that is a limited "fix". Not sure I understand it all myself.
This is one reason why it is a bad idea to install a program to the SD card. As the program runs, it may write runtime data to the card, things like logs and such, this reduces the lifetime of the card drastically.
Is there any known fix for this? I've been searching over the forums, but no definitive answer. It was working before, it had some sync program installed on it?? (it came with it when i bought it).
I reformat the card and now it doesn't show up on the phone. I'm trying to get in contact with the original owner and hopefully he has a fix.

When you say you reformatted the card, what was the method you used?
What file system did you use when you formatted the card?
What size card is it?
Did you add any partitions to the card?
Can you add/remove files from the card when you have it plugged into a Windows PC?
Can you "see" the card when you have it inserted into the phone without the phone being connected to the PC?

[Q] T-Mobile HD2 having trouble reading it's own MicroSD card

We have a T-Mobile HTC HD2, it came with a 16GB MicroSD card.
Lately, the phone is having trouble reading this SD card, and ONLY this SD card.
Any other MicroSD card I plug into it, from other phones or other devices, it reads them fine, and if I plug it's card into other phones or devices, they read the card perfectly fine as well! I tried it in other phones, in usb microsd readers, and even using a sd adapter in my laptop's built in sd reader, digital cameras, Wii, and PS3. The PS3 was the only other device that could not read the card,
But when I plug the card it came with into it, now it mounts it and works fine for about 30 seconds, then unmounts it and acts as if there is no card inserted.
We have had this phone for a year now with no problems of it reading it's own card before, any idea why this suddenly started happening? The owner said he recently dropped it, but that doesn't explain such strange behavior as refusing to read it's own card while reading every other card just fine, and the card reads on any device I plug it into so it doesn't appear to be damaged either.
Have you thougbt about tryinv to reformat your SD card, maybe it has become currupt? You can use the default windoes format software or the Panosonic software, most prefer the Panosonic software. Just do a google search for it to find it. To use the defualt Windows format software just go to Start>My Computer> and find your SD card listed as a removable drive and rigbt click on it then select format. Make sure to make a back up of your data that is on it if you can before you format it, and do a full wipe not a fast format and use Fat 32.
I tried SD Card Formatter 3.0 but it didn't help, it also refused to do a full format, claiming my card didn't support it.

Hmmmmm that program should have worked, curiouse?
Here is a link to the download for the Panosonic SD card formating software. Give it a try and if it does not work hour SD card may have just played out on you. What for others here to post with more advice tough befor you just toss your card and get a new one as someone eles may know something I Don't. Also go to this post, I know you have not flashed WP7 to your HD2 but this may still help as it will wipe any acidental portition that was made somehow on your SD card. Plus itcjist helps hou cover all your bases.

Thats what I used.
Also, I know about partitioning a drive, the sdcard does not have multiple partitions on it.

Sorry about that I just googled " SD Card Formatter 3.0" and it carried me to another site.
As I said in my last post I just linked the post to make sure you were covering your bases.
If you tried the Panisomic software with no joy then it is very possible your SD card is ready for a funeral.
Bit don't just take my word for it let some more members post with their ideas. Sorry I could not be of any more help.

[Q] Have I Killed My SD Card?

I purchased a new SanDisk 32GB microSDHC card for my Magic a few weeks ago. As of the beginning of this month, I started noticing some strange things happening like the card being set to read-only at random. I first noticed it from the camera app where it stated that I needed to insert an SD card before using it. I checked using Root Explorer, and strangely enough it was mounted as read-only. I mounted it back as R/W, and everything seemed fine...or so I thought.
A few days later, I was gonna send those pics that I took with the camera, but they were gone and nowhere to be found on my SD card. I got suspicious so I took a few test pics after (again) having to set the SD card with R/W permissions using Root Explorer. I checked the card, and the pics were there, but as soon as I tried to send them via MMS, the files disappeared. From here, I put the card in my PC's card reader and copied a random file to it. No issues with that, so I put the card back into my phone and that file was gone. Scratching my head some more, I put the card back into my PC and copied another random file. Then I refreshed the folder view within Explorer, and the file was not there. Seeing that I could read the files on the card, I feel that something strange was going on, so I made a backup to my PC. The files copied fine, and I can see the contents on my computer, so reading from the card isn't an issue. I, then, attempted to reformat it from the computer. Windows complained that it was unable to format the card, so I thought I'd go with something a little more refined when dealing with partitions. Using Paragon Partition Manager, I was unable to reformat without first deleting the partition already present, so I did just that. However, after deleting the partition, it gave an error saying that this drive cannot be formatted. Having gotten really frustrated with this issue, I decided to try out GParted on my laptop. I put the card in my card reader on that and ran GParted. It recognized the card, but showed that it was still partitioned...leaving me to believe that Partition Manager didn't actually delete the partition as it said it did. Didn't worry about that too much, and went ahead and deleted the partition through GParted and reformatted to FAT32 with no errors whatsoever during the process, and everything seemed to work fine. However, the used file space was exactly the same as it was before starting this process. I slapped the card back into my PC, and sure enough nothing has changed.
It now seems that the state of my card is somehow "frozen". I can read the files already existing on the card, but nothing can be written to it. The only thing that I did differently with this SD card, in comparison to any other card I've used, is using Swapper (org.azasoft.free.swapper) to create a swap file on my SD card that appeared to work fairly well until all this happened. Though maybe a 1GB swap file wasn't such a great idea, and most likely unnecessary anyways.
I've had a card die on me in the past, but just because it was old. Though, it was completely unusable...couldn't read or write from/to the card, respectively. So being able to read from the card is quite new to me, and I'm not sure if I've killed it, or if (possibly) there is a chance for revival. Normally, I wouldn't worry about it too much and just have the card replaced, but due to the highly sensitive data currently present on the card, that's completely out of the question at this point.
Any insight on this issue would be very highly appreciated.
I would see if you can get it replaced. If you can't, and their is sensitive info on it, completely destroy it (break it into several pieces, blend it, then use fire) and buy a new one.
Seems like you've done everything I could think of. So I'm not sure what to suggest to try and fix it. Maybe try to dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/whateveryoursdcardiscalled and then format?
you should really encrypt sensitive data so you don't have to worry about it when problems occur
tl;dr
However, it did seem like an issue I had with an SD card back when I was trying linux distros on USB sticks. My 16GB was turned into an 8GB one. That sucked LOTS. You know what fixed it?
My camera
Yeah, I put the SD on it and pressed Format. It automagically partitioned it and it's working correctly as we speak ... try other devices, such as handycams, cameras, mp4s, iPhone/iPod & such. They can do what Linux + gParted and Windows can't =)

[Q] S5 Says Blank SD Card After Partitioning on Mac

The other day I partitioned my 32gb SD card on a Mac and formatted it as ntfs I believe so I could put OS X on it. I got home, wiped and reformatted it to FAT32 and transferred all my files back onto it so I could use it with my phone again. Except when I inserted it, it said that the card is blank or has an unsupported filesystem. So I reformatted it again using windows with no success, then using the official sd card formatter v 4.0. Still getting the blank sd card error. After many more wipes/reformats using exFAT and FAT32, still nothing. I even tried erasing and reformatting in a mac again, but nothing seems to work. However every computer I've tried recognizes both the card and all the data stored on it, my phone just doesn't seem to be able to read it. Any suggestions? Am I missing something very obvious? I've also tried both quick and full formats to no avail.

Please use paragraphs. That is too hard to read and I had to quit halfway through your post.
You want a Fat32 filesystem. Did you check in the settings menu to confirm that the card was mounted? Try a different card in the phone? Try formatting this card in the phone?
Just a matter of spotting a pattern in the differemt combinations.

Yep. I would insert the card, get the error, then format it in my phone, still nothing. I tried restarting with card in, out, put the card in while the phone is off, etc. I know the full format on windows should erase everything from the card including partitions, but I'm wondering if some little bit of data from the Mac somehow stays stuck on the card through that.
Oh and I can click on "mount sd card" an infinite amount of times, it just gives me the error and unmounts.
We don't have enough information. Post the exact error you see, verbatim. And it would help immensely if you try the steps I suggested in my last post.
I've tried all that stuff repeatedly I guess I'm getting a bit frustrated with this thing and wasn't clear. And the exact error is "Blank SD Card - SD Card is Blank or has Unsupported Filesystem". I'm worried that my inexperience with macs killed my card

I'm sure that it is frustrating.
However you won't get closer to a solution unless you troubleshoot it in a methodical manner. Find out if another S5 recognizes the card. Then format it in your phone, reboot and see if that makea a difference.
.
The Partition Problem
Maybe the Phone just detects the Blank Partition!
Try saving some Files through your Phone to the SD Card.
Android KitKat does not stop any Reading Access!
After that -- Tell me what happened.
Try the same thing with Another Phone like the Galaxy Note 3.
If it just makes issues on the S5, then it is an Internal Galaxy S5 Problem.
