admin: please move this to the developer thread ( I wasnt allowd to post there)
I had a lengthy discussion about this feature with samsung support. as many has pointed out on samsung galaxy S it was working on android 2.2,
according to samsung supprt google removed this feature in 2.3, and it was not there from 2.1 and before. they could not (would not)provide any tools to downgrade the phone. so I think the solution to this is possible to find in the 2.2 software. if someone knows how to get this bluethooth profile out of 2.2 and make it a installable packet it shoulkd be possible to make it work.
samsung blames all on goolge for some reason, I can provide the mails from samsung support, but they are in norwegian if someone wants proof of this accusation from samsung

A question for those who keep up on the news a lot better than I do in the Android world.
Has there been any news about progress on Android supporting PBAP and other parts of the bluetooth protocol necessary to transfer contacts, caller ID, and sms notifications to a car stereo headunit?
In my searching, I noticed that bluez, the linux bluetooth stack, does indeed support PBAP, but either Android's version doesn't or there is no application that uses it yet.
recent thread and more:
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=000825...pment&sa=Search&cof=FORID:0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
There's some info in koocat's thread about OBEX being supported by bluez, he's offering $300 for a dev to make things work. I don't know if anything will come of it, but there is some info in there that may help.
I had read that thread before and found it to be the usual, long, drawn-out series of off-topic posts. It answered my question: there really isn't any news about android bluetooth stack development.
BlueZ supports OBEX (and has for a while) as well as PBAP. Unfortunately, the Android devs decided not to include them, just as they decided to leave out some audio-related bluetooth features until cupcake.
Auldg's post (yesterday, in fact) had a better answer. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4157673&postcount=59
He outlines a possible workaround, at least, for getting contacts lists into a car headunit by using vCards and BlueX from the market. It might be worth a try.
Thanks for the link!

Hello,
I am very new to Android.
Let's say I have an Android v1.5 device that's not a phone.
can you modify the interface upon powering on or launch such that ONLY the app(s) you want the person to use is allowed?
Thanks
Marco
"User" support isn't included in the version of Android currently being used in mobile phones.
If someone wanted to develop it, I guess it could be done.. but it's a lot of work for a feature that likely few would use.
I found a site (samsung) talking about this mobile tracker technology that enables you to find your phone or wipe it remotely if lost/stolen.
Unfortunately I can't see any way of activating this on the Vibrant and hoped maybe someone else could pitch in here?

Thanks for the link......looks like I can't really use it/nor do I probably want to!
between Kies and other items samsung has provided in the way of software, i've come to the conclusion software and apps are a "hobby" at best for sammy - that or they hire college kids fresh out of school to write their software and don't even bother with an experienced supervisor to monitor their work product
Hello!
I've chaged my sim card and my i9003 is continuously sending messages to two numbers saying that sim card has been changed. How can I convince the MOBILE TRACKER that this new sim doesn't have to be reported??
Thanks in advance!
Hi all,
Does anybody know whether Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) protocol has been added to Android's mobile stack or not ? Any references or links would be great if you're aware of a group, webpage, code repository etc.
Thanks in advance,
Roger
Nobody?any ideas?
I suspect that few people on these forums are aware of what DTN actually is.
I was just wondering this myself, and google turned up this post. It appears that there was some work done on it (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/11/05/vint_cerf_on_mobile/) a few years ago.
The official site (http://bytewalla.sourceforge.net/) includes source code and an apk file to install it, though it's light on the details.
I plan on trying this out myself over the weekend.
Samsung Windows Software
So, I recently was looking around the Samsung web site to find some things (mainly like kies and other Android software) and started realizing that Samsung has a ton of desktop apps for Windows that will work on any windows device. I figured that I would start compiling a list of some of them that I have found. This may sound strange for experienced users who have had some of the things installed for ages but for noobs the Samsung site is confusing as hell and does not have a general section to download Windows software from.If you find any that I may have missed, please add to the thread and I will add it.This is a wip so there are probably some I forgot and will add as soon as I find them. All of them has been tested to work on my lenovo (non samsung) PC. There are some other ones that I could not get to run and seem to have device checks built in.
