Hi all,
I've recently been lucky enough to get an invite to Google Voice, and as such, I'd like to use it as my primary voicemail. I know how to change the Speed Dial setting so I can dial 1 and get to my GV messages, but I'd like to set up call forwarding or something similar so that anyone who calls my 'old' (original) phone number is sent to the GV number when I don't answer.
Please see this article to see what I'm talking about:
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/...ice-to-add-visual-voicemail-to-your-g1-dream/
I know that WM6 doesn't have an app for GV just yet, and I'm content to receive text messages for now. Is it possible to modify my voicemail functionality in this way? For reference, I'm using Sprint on a Vogue (with VetVito's ROM, but that shouldn't matter here).
Thanks!
Nevermind... on Sprint, this is done through setting up "Forward when busy" and "Forward when no answer" with customer service, and it carries a per-minute fee for each use. No way I'm shelling out 20 cents per minute for voicemail. Oh well...
If you are persistent enough and get to the right tech level, they will do it for you in the system. I basically had a lot of trouble doing the *7XXX thing (can't remember the code anymore) and finally got to a tech who told me that when your calls go to sprints voicemail, it is basically a call forward to a different number, just handled internally. So he changed the number in the internal system to my voicemail service (phone fusion, I'm on the android OS) and viola, call forwarding for busy and no answer calls with no charge!
It will probably take a few calls and some time, but it is possible. I would also suggest searching for and signing an online petition to sprint to discontinue this charge. Apparently they are the only US carriers who charge for this. with google voice coming, it's just not a good thing.
I'm on Verizon and I just have to dial *72+the number I want calls forwarded to and they just go to that number. The only issue is that it causes me to lose the free mobile 2 mobile calls because I get connected to my Google Voice account.
I called five times. Each time the answer was the same (in varying degrees of smarmyness and friendliness): We used to change the voicemail number for people, and we can still do it, but aren't allowed to.
No ifs, ands, or buts.
Every one of them tried to sell me on call forwarding at 20 cents per minute. Each time I explained that if I got only one message per day, at a minute or less, that'd be an extra six bucks on my bill. Personally, it'd be much higher.
So, much as I love my Vogue, the combination of their 'anti-Android' policy and intentional incompatibility with third-party voicemail systems means that I'll be looking for a new provider when my contract is up. Maybe I'll port my number to a shiny new myTouch 3G.
I ported my phone number over from AT&T. My Incredible was supposed to ship on the 22nd. It shipped on the 24th, with no reason given. Then, I wasn't home on the 25th to sign for it, so I had to trek to the FedEx place to pick it up. It took me an hour waiting in line. I get home, and follow the directions to activate my phone. It activates, programs the phone, and reboots it. Finally, I'm done, right? No. Instead of being able to call out, or receive calls, I can't. If I try to call out, it redirects my phone call to the activation process. If people try to call me, it rings and rings, but I don't receive the call.
I tried reactivating again. It failed this time, and redirected me to customer support. I'm in a house, all alone, with no landline. Therefore, I can't call anyone, not even the 800 numbers for support. The only way I was able to get support earlier was because the activation process redirected my call when it failed. The problem now is that because of the time, their support is closed. Earlier, they had me remove the battery and wait. That didn't work. So I had to get ahold of a different rep because that one couldn't call me back due to my issue. That one told me to wait a few hours. The issue still hasn't improved. It's weird, because on their end it says my phone is activated, and I can use the data network on my phone, but I can't send or receive sms/mms or calls.
Help?

You didn't specify that you've done this (per se), so I'm going to suggest that you dial *228 and press for option 1. Let it do it's thing and reboot.
If it still doesn't work, Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks. Make sure Airplane mode is NOT checked. Scroll down and make sure Mobile network IS checked. Then tap Mobile Networks on that same page. You MAY want to check the first two boxes, but then tap System Select and check Automatic.
Hope this helps.
Curious, but did you bother calling customer service?
It is possible your account is messed up and needs to work done by a CS rep to fix.
I've had something similar with other phones in the past that had to be resolved by CS.
*611 for Customer Service. Free, doesn't require you to have an actual plan, just be able to connect to the VZW network (which if you are connecting to the activation/programming you are) They will be able to help you. I suspect your number wasn't yet ported or the port wasn't completed. There are at least two systems they need to activate your account information in and I'd guess one completed and the other didn't. Stupid system if you ask me. They will ask you to remove the battery from your phone again at some point, it is actually a required step, not like when internet service providers tell you to reboot your modem... I know it is frustrating but you may have to continue to call until you get someone competent enough, or you can just ask to be elevated when you call.

As an update, it began working at 4AM that day. What happened was apparently an outage in their backend services, and it cause my activation to go through, but the tieup caused it to not remove the callblock in place.
I had tried all the things you guys recommended before I posted this thread.
It was ridiculous, I couldn't even call customer support using *661. In fact, the support reps I got earlier couldn't even call me back if we got disconnected.
Anyhow, all is well now, and I'm really enjoying my phone. A nice switch from my HTC Fuze with AT&T.
I am in need of some serious help, I purchased an s4 on craigslist from an AT&T customer. I verified the phone at the store, and it was an active AT&T phone when I bought it. I then transferred my phone number to a new Straight Talk Sim, and put the sim in the galaxy . I set the APN settings to the support reps recommendation, and everything worked besides receiving group texts and receiving mms. I thought it was the APN settings, so I tried every setting I could find recommended on this, and other forums. None of them worked. The solutions I was able to find included rooting my phone, which I don't have time to do. Since I was unable to use the phone how I needed without mms, I gave up with straight talk and ported my number to a AT&T LTE gophone account. I figured that straight talk was the problem, so I was excited to transfer. Well, after porting today, I have faster Internet, but mms and group texts(incoming of both) don't work. I can send mms, but cannot receive it, and I can send group texts, but not receive them. I am using the default att settings that came which the phone as instructed by the rep. In the AT&T store today. If anyone can please assist me in figuring out why this is happening, and what can fix it, I would be greatly appreciative. I did a search for the APN issue before posting this, but what I found was related to getting it to work with straight talk. I just want it to work with ATT now. Thank you in advance for any help..
Is your mobile data turned on while you try to download it? It may seem silly but I didn't realize it had to be on before ;P
Data is on
Data is on, and the outgoing mms and group texting works. On two carriers now, the incoming mms and group texting does not work. Really need a solution for this if anyone can help.

go to settings>options>mobile network and make sure that "data services" is turned on then send an mms to yourself and see if that activates it.
Data is on. Something with the phone is going on.....
To my understanding, this has got to be a phone issue. The data has been turned on . The outgoing mms is working. The outgoing group text is working. I have been on two different sims with different carriers, and still have the same issue......

I'm having similar troubles:
I CAN send mms,
but I can NOT receive images [although I did when I first set up the phone a few weeks ago, it was automatic image retrieval]
NOW when receiving a mms, a white download button (within a yellow box that gives me the message size + expire info) does not work. I tap "download", and it shows it's trying, but then I keep getting error messages that the download failed.
For purpose of testing the DATA feature of my service & phone I turn off the Wi-Fi.
I'm able to access the internet via data.
I'm able to make calls
I'm able to send texts
I'm able to send mms
However, my phone can NOT retrieve mms sent to me
I've tested repeatedly sending mms to myself. I can send - NOT receive.
Error message: "Message not downloaded - Review message and try again"
I try again, and then the next error message is: "Message download failed"
I don't understand that it worked before seamlessly for a week (after changing APN settings 1x after initial set up of service) and now I can only send, but not receive!?!
I have a factory unlocked AT&T Samsung S4
Using NET10 service with Net10's AT&T Sim Card.
I actually just got off the phone with Net10's Tech Support. Was on the phone over an hour with Service Tech Rep. He was very kind and patient. I had the correct APN settings. We changed some to test = to no avail. Upon my request he gave me different APN settings to try, beyond those that should work for this phone, in case it would work. He stayed with me on the phone while I performed a "Backup & Reset" and then gave me the settings that should apply to my phone. Still the same problems. He concludes that the issue is with my phone.
We do have a local AT&T store. Is there any reset or other options I could request they please do for me????
Thank you in advance for any ideas, guidance that may help!!
PS: My current APN settings from Net10:
Apn name-NET10
Apn- tfdata
MMSC-http : / / mms-tf dot net
Mms proxy-mms3.tracfone dot com
Mms port-80
Fix?
Did you ever figure this out? I have searched high and low and have exactly the same problem, everything works except RECEIVING MMS. I'm on Straight Talk. Please, please, please help!
Why not just Odin the phone to 100% stock. Solution done.

MMS?
Not sure what that means, but if it will work, please explain. I can root. :good:
did you had an iphone before? make sure to turn/sign off imessage in your previous idevice. IT happened to me as well. ITs one of the damn apply/imessage glitch because when you activated imessage it added your number to their cloud server.
Are you back on straight talk or on att? What messaging app are you using?

Problems Handling Phone Calls (Call Waiting, 3 way, etc.) Verizon S5 on AT&T Network
I recently bought a used Verizon Galaxy S5 (SM-G900V). It came with the lollipop OS. From the outset, I had problems with phone calls, text messaging.
1. When I'm in a call, I'm not able to dial (Like to enter numbers for automated systems).
*I solved this one by going to:
settings>applications>call>
Scroll down to DTMF tones and change setting to long.
2. When I'm in a call, I'm not able to click over to calls on call waiting. When I do try to click over, I still hear the original call for a few seconds and then both calls drop and I get an error message that says "no sim or invalid sim". If I don't answer the call, both calls drop and I get the same message. The same thing happens if a try to make a 3 way call.
3. If someone calls me and I try to call them back, the call redirects to turn it into an international call and the call doesn't go through.
*I solved this using an app called prefixer
4. If I try to text message someone who called me, I get an error message back saying the phone number is invalid.
I figured I would have to root my phone to be able to make some custom changes. I first had to downgrade to kitkat (android 4.4.2) and root it and then upgrade with root using some very helpful posts and resources found on this site (thanks). When I downgraded, problems 1 and 2 went away (for number 1, I had to change my network mode, but that solution didn't work when I went back to lollipop). After upgrading beack to lollipop, all of these problems were there, though I was able to resolve 2 of them, the other 2 are problematic.
I think theres a problem with the way the phone is handling the AT&T network signal since they have a different type of network from verizon but i don't know. I need some help please. Has anyone encountered these kinds of problems and solved them. Thanks
I've scoured the internet for 6 months checking back every month to see if there was a fix for this.
When I got my Canadian W8 variant of the s7 edge on Rogers, Call forwarding was working.
Then I rooted my device so I can use Root call blocker for its ability to pick up and hang up calls without my knowing the blocked number ever even called.
I then tried to setup YouMail for visual voicemail and keep getting mmi code errors. If I try activating it manually by going into the call setting, I get "Failed to read data, Unexpected response from network".
I attributed this error to Rogers not having call forwarding on my account. But I'm paying for it, and since I'm on family play with parents, and tested both their devices, one is an Galaxy s5 neo and the other is an iphone of some sort and both work.
What is causing this issue?
Is it because KNOX was tripped? I've tried flashing clean no root, and still same errors.
Did rooting my phone break Call Forwarding?
Did anyone else have this issue and find a fix or workaround?
I need to forward calls I ignore to YouMail.
Once again, I've gone through all the so called "fixes" in the first 3 pages of google searching. All of which are the same articles on different sites.
Thanks.
