Heimdall issues - Galaxy S II General

I downloaded this app/program and can't find it anywhere on my computer. Not in the applications folder or anywhere. I can't figure out how to open it so I can root my Samsung GALAXY S II i9100.

If you're struggling at that point, rooting is probably not for you.

Your supposed to download the heimdall suite. Then after it installs and everything, it asks you to reboot which is necessary. After it reboots, go to applications and look for heimdall-frontend.
Btw, heimdall in general is just complicated idk why their website advertises it as being easy.
I legit just used bootcamp and installed windows 7 last night, used to rooting and everything on windows anyway since that what i did when i had a Galaxy S.
Just install windows on your Mac, it makes life easier for doing anything android.

You're welcome. Thanks for posting in the correct forum and double posting.

No problem. I was going to post in another forum but kept giving errors about being banned if it was wrong place.
Don't know why you felt compelled to post if you weren't gonna be helpful.

Its maybe four commands, are you serious?
-Err, sorry if I offended anyone.
You really have to be trolling on this one. fastboot oem unlock
How much easier can you get than that? No messing around with some exploit hoping it'll work with your phone, just pure, easy, simplistic. I remember back in 2008 when I had to run telnetd on my g1. You kids today have it easy and lazy with 1 click root apps.

Very serious! I have no issues with the commands but alot of my customers do have issues following the instructions. Just trying to make it easier on them, i do not mind investing money to make it easier on them.

Please don't clutter the development forum with requests. Put requests in General.
Edit: also, if you can't root the Nexus S you should really consider whether or not you should be tinkering with your phone at the system level. Because this is the easiest phone on the market to root.

Excuse Me Master Dev, however I am a long time "tinkerer" From the G1, HTC Hero, Samsung Epic 4G all rooted the "Hard Way" I am having issues because my Windows 7 - Java can't find a path in path on most 64 bit systems and we are having issues with the crap we are supposed to download to root Nexus S 4G 2.3.4. Damn-it I want a solution, I will join in the forums like I did in college and assist with the one-click root method. However I Work! If I have to donate $$$ so I can root and help thousands in the process I am fine with that! The instructions are not clear what so ever.
One more thing if it was the easiest phone to root their would not be over a hundred sites showing mis-information about rooting the NS4G.
YouTube Video would be great too, I will do once method is established!

There is a app that you can install right on your phone like you would with a app that does everything for you. Cant get any easier then that. Its called Gingerbreak. I recently used this on my Nexus S 4g on Saturday so it still works. Its faster then fastboot oem unlock.

Hello,
I've created a zip file for you, which contains:
Nexus S USB drivers
fastboot.exe
lastest clockworkmod recovery image
and a script to guide you through the whole process, and basically do it for you
This is the safest, easiest, and best way to root the Nexus S. Everything you need to do so (instructions included) is in the zip file. I hope it works for you, I don't see why it wouldn't.
You can download it here: http://download.unforgivendevelopment.com/android/devices/samsung/crespo/windows-nexus-s-root.zip
MD5sum (for those who care): 6b0b75c4a02d49ad81e0fe6b9a637dce

mmhmm. qft
This thread makes me a Sad Panda.
Seriously
The concepts are easy.
1. Install working fastboot driver (I used the one that installs with PDANet)
2. Download SDK and extract to someplace, root of C:\ is most common
3. Boot into fastboot.
4. navigate to the tools folder of the sdk.
5. type fastboot oem unlock
6. use fastboot to install Clockwork
7. use Clockwork to install SuperUser
There has never been an easier phone to root. Creating a "one click" root would be as simple as creating an installer package that automates those steps. One would probably want to get permission from June Fabrics to use the driver they packaged.
I'll put one together later if I have time.
This may sound ****ty, but if someone can't follow the instructions for installing the Android SDK and Phone Drivers then maybe they should consider the benefits of running the phone in a carrier/manufacturer supported fashion.
It's not the instructions I had trouble getting the sdk going Java can't be found in path on my 64 bit system. I was able to get rooted using the fastboot, unfortunately though because of Java I can't get the sdk to update or use eclipse

How I Installed ICS on my Note
I had a lot of trouble getting ICS on my Note using my Mac. I gave up on Heimdall, and just ran Windows 7 in Bootcamp so I could flash directly rootable firmware to my Note using Odin. After that, I switched back to Mac OS X and used the whole zergRush exploit I found in the Galaxy Note wiki to root. Then I used Mobile Odin Pro to flash the ics repack, and finally cwm to flash the ics stunner beta. It took forever to get the whole thing set up, but it was worth it. if you have anymore questions just ask.
P.S. I still have no idea how to get Heimdall to work, sorry
this is bunch of bollocks....i dont have access to bootcamp cant run..it...also i saw that stunner rom that **** is really nice i like that one ...i may endup paying someone locally ...
this is what really irritates me with android the complexity of it all, if this was ios it would be a piece of piss and work on both sides, no disrespect to the devs on here but if the yanks where doing all the dev work for android it would be simpler ,but as its the europeans doing most of the dev work it seems like hard work again, no disrespect to the guys i appreciate their work whole heartedly

Heimdall for Mac

Im posting this here because I've tried posting in other root forums and have no such luck and I've seen other people comment on this too. My question is does anyone know how to bypass the "failed to initialize protocol" error message in heimdall for mac or is there a better alternative to rooting as of this point? I've tried typing the commands into terminal and nothing has worked, I don't even has Kies installed on my computer. Any help or anyone that could point me in the right direction for rooting on a Mac would be helpful. I know there are plenty of us out there looking for a solution for our inferior computers
You can have your Mac dual boot
Or install something like parallels desktop and have Odin on that
My personal preference is to keep a cheap windows laptop for odin
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Unless something has been released in the last couple of days heimdall does not support the s3 yet. I had to find a pc with windows to root using odin.
bj | SGH-I747M | Rogers | Rooted | ICS | CWR
yeah, most of us, including me, have not been able to successfully root the US version of the s3 using any verison of heimdall.
trust me ive tried EVERYTHING. downgrading to older versions, messing with the .kext files, trying to install thru terminal, trying the terminal fix to fix the issue with kies. Ive done everything.
I either get failed to initialise protocol, or claiming interface failed. Were going to have to wait for the makers of heimdall to update it.
For now, like most have said, the only alternative is to find a windows machine you can do it on. Ive yet to do it tho.
I found a versions of Odin that had been wine wrapped to work with mac but I wasn't able to obtain the proper gs3 usb drivers to take advantage it

i think were pretty much screwed til heimdall adds support for the US versions of the s3. There was a guy in one of the stickies that got it to work, but he was unable to help with the issue we are having.
Yeah - Heimdall still doesn't support the U.S. S3's, but it does support the international.
The developer is working on it. (<- thank 'em)
I thought I could wait a few weeks for Heimdall compatibility before rooting, but I was weak and "needed" AdAway, TiBu, tether, general modding, etc... so I connected my S3 to a filthy dirty Windoze box w/ Odin to root it. Back to linux now... phew!
^ haha, made me laugh. I'm gonna sit tight till Heimdall gets working.

Thinking about doing this myself - did you run into any problems/irregularities? It seems a bit rash to not just wait for a real solution, but after two and a half years of no ads on my phone, I keep finding myself saying "what the f*ck is this ad doing here on this shiny new phone?!" hah. Spoiled I guess.

[Q] Most difficult root process EVER

I've been spending days trying to figure out how to root this darn phone and it's driving me insane! It seems like every program or file I need is outdated or no longer exists. There are dozens of guides for different ways to root and they all seem to be outdated! I tried going through most of them and from what I've found, they all require stuff that is outdated and no longer has download links.
I can't find a direct link to the most recent HTC Glacier driver for Windows, HTC Sync doesn't notice the phone, and Android SDK Manager/Eclipse won't open up (even with updated Java). So I don't know what's going on with that. I have a GSN2 and successfully and easily installed the drivers for it, but this phone is being stubborn as hell.
I need a link to the most recent and properly working guide for the root process. If any experienced myTouch modder could direct me to the best guide out, I would greatly appretiate it. I feel like my brain is going to explode!

ok first you need to understand how to use a few of the android tools. you dont need the entire android-sdk and definitey dont need to use eclipse to root your phone. all you need are two tools from the android-sdk, fastboot and adb. I wouldn't worry about it. Just root using one of the software packages, or do it manually. There are many guides for this. It really is no big deal and almost nothing to worry about IMHO.
The biggest worry is that once you unlock and root, you'll want to flash. Then the addiction begins!!!!!
Just read and do all your researches. Go for it.

did you find that here... This is your first problem if you ask me, you come to xda to ask questions but you do not use the multiple root options that are stickied(for a reason mind you). Try to use a root from another area. Do yourself a favor and read the wugs thread or mskip. No need to go looking elsewhere since its all right in here.
If you have bricked other phone and not sure about what to do then I suggest you enjoy HSPA+ and try and deal with the buttons. Its a great phone and selling cheap now but that does not mean your brick it if you are not sure about rooting.

Let's try to not be rude here. I was simply asking if it was legit. No rule against asking questions like that is there?
I'm glad you enjoy that but I do not.
Enjoy your evening.
Nah my bad not rude at all just a straight forward person... Sorry if you took it wrong but too me if you are worried don't root
Edit: I agree with below comment if you gonna do it learn it all but also that means take time to research as well and know what you are doing and what it takes to make it right in case something goes wrong.
Also as I read my thread I had some points there that were helpful again sorry you took it wrong way

The only right way of unlocking & rooting your Nexus.
Learn why you do things, what happens at different stages.

IMO the only thing daunting in this is the unlock procedure. Once unlocked then rooting, custom recoveries, custom roms, mods, themes, and all else become possible.
When I did it I went old school and used adb and the sdk and did everything manually. I learned a lot on the way, even as I was nervous and worried. I strongly recommend this approach though as it will help you to understand your phone and its operating system. And you also can begin to appreciate the beauty of open-source.
Just follow the directions in the guides posted here at XDA. Go slow. Read. Download the requirements. Be patient. Be meticulous. You will be ok... And if you really don't want to get your hands dirty use one of the 'kits' also available for download here at XDA.

It's understandable, I'm really just looking at which is the best and easiest method since there seems to be tons of options.

The weird thing was I installed superuser just fine then went to install a few roms and couldn't get anything to work..
I'm just afraid of having a new phone and it instantly being paperweight.

sounds to me that you are not sure of yourself or have not done enough homework prior to flashing or rooting.. If thats the case leave your new phone alone and just enjoy it. Rooting is honeslty easy and fun but if you are not sure of yourself it could be a nightmare.
Its unlock bootloader run a command to push recovery and flash and su.zip quite simple by original 40 step Evo root procedure back in the days
That's the reason for old school. If you get a handle on the basics of adb your phone is almost indestructable from an OS and software standpoint because you can just return to stock images if things go south a little bit....

My advice: just do it!
The fear will vanish.....
