Hey all, i really want this as everyone seems to rate it but when you download the CAB file it downloads two link files and an XML which takes you to opera - doesn't seem to want to download like a normal CAB file...still a bit new at all of this but if anyone can tell me how I actually get it installed and working I would be very grateful!
Thanks.
Try this version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3041910&postcount=37
Put the cab file on the device, find it on the device using explorer & launch it. It will install.
argh misicid
finally downloaded it didnt work and now cant uninstall searched here did what they said with the reinstall and now i have three dead nusicid icons !! any help please?
Getting rid of MusicID
Hey all, posted on this before but it seems to have gotten lost. I downloaded MusicID using the links people posted, never got it to work so tried to uninstall and it left an icon in my programmes, did what people said and tried to uninstall by reinstalling and now i have THREE musicid icons left none of which work - can someone tell me how to get rid of this horrid programme (which incidentally sadly doesnt compare with Shazam at all :-( )

This is the third new thread you have started on this topic. Please read the sticky at the top of the Forum and stop polluting - this is not a Helpdesk and you are not entitled to an answer.
I suspect diligent use of the search tool would give you what you need - I'm sure I remember seeing a solution
Thank you for your post.
There is no solution posted here as regards to uninstall (and my initial direction was as to "install"), or rather there is one that was posted to another member and does not work, indeed it is a problem many have referenced hence the inquiry (not a demand for a response).
There are many questions posed here with people asking for assistance and many people who are good enough to provide answers recognising that is part of the spirit of this forum - if you do not wish to answer the thread then there is no obligation to do so but I do not feel that people should have any hesitation in posting on any matter they may choose.
If by what your saying you mean there's an broken shortcut to the application under the programs menu that was left behind after you uninstalled the application, you can delete those broken links by going into Windows/Start menu/Programs. Here you should see all the .lnk files associated with every program you have on your phone (including the broken links for musicId). Just delete these and they should be gone. Of course needless to say.....I'm sure you've already uninstalled the application from under start-->settings-->system-->remove programs.
in /windows/Start menu/Programs folder remove the icons.
and i agree with iain.fraser, a simple bump to the original thread should have sufficed
Thank you for the help.
The icons are there when you go windows/start/programs (not in the scroll down start menu or the slide along menu but actually on the programmes screen which shows all programmes i.e just like the icons for all the other applications, activesync, camera etc...) and cant seem to be deleted from there and there is no option to delete icons ( this is following uninstalling the programme by "removing programmes").
Its always good to have a program like SK Tools and officialy uninstall the programs from there to make sure they are completely gone!
Hmmmm that's weird. What options do you get if you tap and hold using your stylus on the musicID icons? Coz well, deleting icons is a pretty straight forward process.

Your slightly hurt tone might have been avoided by your reading the rules of the Forum, which apply to you just as they do to everyone else here.
It is not your request that poses an issue, rather the three requests in fairly quick succession, which edges towards demanding.
Plugging the search terms 'MusicID' and 'uninstall' into the Forum Search facility at the top of the Forum returned two hits, the second of which is a thread around the coolest applications installed. Post 17 of that thread purports to offer a solution to uninstalling. If you have already tried that, you could widen out to other Forums, to the Internet as a whole, or even contact the developers of MusicID before bumping one of your original threads. Any of these would be fine - starting another new thread isn't.
Please do read the sticky - it might prove useful in future
Thanks i know its strange and frustrating - basically it created a new file called "ATT music", you click on that file in the programmes page (not the touch flo programme page where you can select and remove whatever you want but the windows programme page which shows you everything) and it opens a new icon saying "3 music id" i try to delete that by holding the stylus on it and it just says the file cannot be opened and to try reinstalling or restoring it. There are three such ATT files now on my system that i can't delete.
Hmmm...try deleting the files through activesync. Or as a last resort.....use SK Tools. It's pretty effective. You can download a trial version.
Good Luck.
Great thanks - i'll give it a go. help much appreciated!!!

Hi, Sorry to hear it did not work for you. Did you have .net 3.5 installed?
This is the link I used to find the right cab: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3041910&postcount=37
I did read on another forum that the trick to uninstalling it was to install again on top and reply "yes" to the remove earlier version option and then cancel the install after that.
It works very well on my HD - I can sit in the chair across the room from the radio and it will pick up the music fine and after about 30 seconds it has done the sampling, analyzing and provided the track details.
It's not very good on classical music though !!
Thanks cheesy dave. I tried what the uninstall by reinstall and it just gave me another dead icon (now 3 as i tried it twice).
It's a shame as it looks like fun if you can get it to work. I think i have the old net compact (is there a way to check) maybe the first thing i should do is upgrade it.

Hi, you should know if you have .Net 3.5 as it needs to be installed separately. By default the HD comes with the much earlier .Net framework. So if you have to ask then probably you have only the standard. I would recommend installing the new version - there are links in this forum for it. Also, try the wiki pages:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Software
Many applications need the new version to work. I personally have no idea if musicid needs it. It does work fine on my HD and I do have .net 3.5 installed and set as the default.
Here is a useful link that has the registry key you can check to see what .net you have:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=460006
I find the musicid fun, I doubt I will use it every day but now and then it will be good to have it available.
Regards, D
Here is the Microsoft link for .Net 3.5:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...3c6b-42f1-9fd9-0041345b3385&displaylang=en&tm
(if the link is no good then go to microsoft and search for "NETCFSetupv35")

what happened when you tried SKtools?
As many of you will have seen I've been quite active on this forum from the moment I joined. I want to figure everything out for myself as much as possible, but it's just not possible to look up (and find!) everything. Thus, here are the questions that I can't find an answer for myself:
1) How do I change the standard SW keyboard, without it resetting after a soft reset? (E.g. to blackstone keyboard)
2) How do I change a registry value, without it resetting after a soft reset, when it normally does? (For instance the value whether your headset is plugged in, I want it to be default ON.)
3) How can I extract a cab file from a ROM? I would like to get WLive messenger from the stock ROM, but I just can't find a guide anywhere!
4) Is there a way to fix the problem that occurs with the HW keyboard when Blackstone SW keyboard is installed? The problem is the first keytap not being registered correctly, so the first letter ends up being the second or later. Call it input lag.
I intend to add the found answers to this post, as well as add other hard to answer questions others may have. That is, if an answer exists. Thanks in advance for those who try to help.

1) How do I change the standard SW keyboard, without it resetting after a soft reset? (E.g. to blackstone keyboard)
Use either Sktools to set it as default (it then uses a small program that starts up in startup folder) or Sipchange http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271008 (not certain if this one works anymore)
2) How do I change a registry value, without it resetting after a soft reset, when it normally does? (For instance the value whether your headset is plugged in, I want it to be default ON.)
the headset is a tricky one, one way would be to run a script (mortscript maybe) to change the reg entry at startup, but I don't know how often the headset is polled (if at all) to check whether it's in or not).
3) How can I extract a cab file from a ROM? I would like to get WLive messenger from the stock ROM, but I just can't find a guide anywhere!
depends on whether it's a cab or not, unlikely. First you need to extract the rom, there are plenty of threads on this. but's it's obvious if you've tried a rom kitchen, you bung the ruu-signed.nbh in the baserom folder, start the kitchen.cmd and follow the instructions.
Then pour over all the folders and see if there's a cab. If there isn't you need to build one.
search for quickcab as a start (although that one doesn't allow you to import reg files (or *.rgu as they come out in the roms) so you have to do it manually.
4) Is there a way to fix the problem that occurs with the HW keyboard when Blackstone SW keyboard is installed? The problem is the first keytap not being registered correctly, so the first letter ends up being the second or later. Call it input lag.
use a different keyboard, I've not had this issue, but then I prefer the raphael one. There's plenty of other free keyboards about, lifes too short to work out why the software keyboard off one piece of hardware doesn't work with another.. ;P

Haha, I'm afraid you're right on that one fards.
Thanks for your replies, can you give me a link to the raphael keyboard? I'd like to check it out.
Also, I've got tools to create a cab, but extracting a ROM the way you proposed will probably prove difficult, I'll look into it.
The headset value is polled by for instance the FM radio and audiobooster from HTC.

I can't even remember where I got teh keyboard cab from, I'll post it when I get the phone working again!
extracting the rom really is easy, the kitchens make it simple..
that new rom kitchen I linked to makes it even easier, but I still prefer the out and out gui pleasantness that's Pofs Linux rom kitchen
I don't mind answering your's and gtrabs questions, they seem to be the right questions !
just noticed I'm rapidly approaching a kilo posts, must make sure it's not a grumpy post that one...
I managed to miss some text out, but basically when you find the folder containing your desired files take the files out of the folder you want, including the corresponding 409 (or whatever language) folder and stick 'em in the cab software pretty easy to do .
Sometimes it doesn't work so try changing something or try to see if there's a dependency that's missing.
it's really not as secret or hard to do as it's sometimes is made out to be. The hard work has been done by the genius who write the software to let us do this.
turns out it's Smabergs keyboard I use..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2966597
Ah, very nice. Thanks. I've tried smabergs, it has some bugs (landscape mode broken) and it doesn't seem to be supported anymore. Will tinker around with it a bit, as it's good for portrait mode. (Blackstone, but then without the bugs!)
Of course you can find the anwsers to the blackstone cabs, if you would search them all individuality.
I found numerous people asking this question. Call them lazy, but this forum does not make it easier to find information in a convenient way. All i want is to make a nice overview of what all the cabs do and what they look like.
Member Norti has done the same with all the programs/tweaks. If you continue your statement you might also think that topic is unnecessary. I think this forum is very unorganized. Do you think its strange that people keep asking the same questions? I think the problem here is not in the hands of the people asking, but in the forums way of storing data. The search function is not a great tool to search with. Does anyone have some input so we kan make it better?
Maybe this is the wrong topic to post this in, but i thought it was a question many would like to have answered...

Fair enough. Do me a favor and move that post to a seperate topic, it's quite long.
I'm looking for an app to turn the phone ringer on and off at specified times, something similar to TProfiler (which doesn't work on the Artemis). If it could also control wifi/bluetooth that'd be very useful too. But I don't know what to search for! I've tried 'phone profile', 'scheduler', 'radio manager', could somebody point me in the right direction, please?
whoops, hadn't read you thread beyond the first few words and recommended tprofiler. searched in the ppc freeware site the link is to under profile manager, found g-profile, which looks great for you. http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-g-profile.html in the comments tho some are saying that the new one's not freeware, so be sure to download the older version from somewhere
best of luck
Thank you, Reg66, for responding. I've downloaded G-Profile and am currently trying it out (14-day trial). It does what I wanted, pity about the cool black interface when I'm running bog-standard WM6 for everything else! I've tried custom black ROMs in the past but kept running out of storage space when using them. Plus, I don't want to brick my phone by being this week's Miss Unlucky. So, could anybody recommend a nice black interface that matches G-Profile, and also has a fairly small memory footprint, pretty please?
This thread is for folks to post noob-friendly guides for hacks, mods, and other awesome tweaks for the Nook Simple Touch (NST). I'll update as I learn more or as folks post more interesting stuff, or if people have corrections or suggestions, and also to take account of new developments.
BTW- please don't quote the first post (or any really long post for that matter). If you accidentally do, please edit it out of your post.
GUIDE ONE) Enable multitouch and norefresh
1) What you need:
nook simple touch
microSD card and a way to write to it (USB adapter or SD adapter and a card reader)
sd card with clockwork recovery image (from mali100) (I'll write my own guide for this soon)
A root file explorer (I suggest ES file explorer; free, simple, awesome)
both of these files on the root of the CWR SD card: norefresh (toggle version), and multitouch
2) Install multitouch:
Boot into CWR (insert your SD card and restart!)
choose "install zip from SD card" and then "choose zip from sd card"
select "multitouch.zip"
click "yes" (hint: it's the only one that isn't "no")
remove the sd card, then select "reboot device now"
3) Install norefresh apk
open ES file explorer
select norefresh.apk
click yes (did you really need a guide for that?)
That's it! Now, how do you use it?
4) Using your awesome tablet-esqe combination of norefresh+multitouch:
find the norefresh app in the drawer and open it. It won't do anything except flash the screen
Now, open a program you might want to use it with (pdf readers and simple games)
tap the screen four times, in a line starting from top left moving to bottom right (watch this video from marspeople if that doesn't make sense)
5) Stand back in awe. Then go thank the devs in this thread for norefresh (I think it's a combination of Bardo8430 and Marspeople's combined work, correct me if I'm wrong and I'll update); and this thread for multitouch (It appears to be some combination of wheilitjohnny and mali100; again correct me if I'm wrong).
Welcome to the NST community! Oddly enough, I was thinking of creating a thread that will (hopefully) become stickied with quick-start stuff for new people. Might as well start here
GabrialDestruir gave a pretty good explanation about the different rooting methods, which can be found here (just ignore the part about TorimuNooter, development has been stopped and the links have been pulled).
I myself used MinimalTouch (called MinimalNooter on that page) before my Nook broke. It's a little more involved than TouchNooter, but in the end you'll be able to use the Market (Google Play?) sooner. I think there might be some issues with the 1.1.0 vs 1.1.2, but I didn't get the chance to update to 1.1.2 to see for myself.
Be sure to create a backup before you root in the off chance something goes wrong or you decide you don't want your Nook rooted anymore. Here is a link to the backup thread.
Once you feel like you know your way around your Nook well enough, you might consider some of these fun hacks:
NoRefresh - Makes the screen B/W, but will make the screen update MUCH faster and removes the ghosting for the most part
Multitouch - As the name implies, it enables multitouch. You will probably want to use this with NoRefresh.
Flash Player - Flash Player. On the Nook. You will need NoRefresh unless you like seeing ghosts
Video Players - Sure, there's no sound, but it's just fun to have a video on an E-Ink display.
USBHost - This will allow you to plug a keyboard or other USB device into the Nook's micro-USB port and have it actually do something. I think someone got a GPS working at some point... There's also a work-in-progress guide here.
Edit:
There's also this index for manually rooting and doing some other cool things with your Nook, such as changing the shutdown screen.
Thanks for putting your time into this, Googie. That response could become a thread itself if written as an OP. This is really helpful!
Hey googie- Thanks for the great start! I'll update the OP and the title; I agree, hopefully this will get stickied.
So does the "broken nook" mean that you are not going to be a part of this community any more? that would be a shame. I hope you can find another! Best of luck!
BTW- if anyone else has more information I'd be happy to add it to the OP. Depending on the amount of complexity of information received, I may not be the best person to have control over the new user sticky; if you want to write a full guide, you should probably do so in a new thread (to replace this one, assuming it gets stickied).
I've searched a lot, but I can't find a "newbie comprehensive guide"... For example I've found how to root manually my nook simple touch, but I still can't find a way to install manually various .apk's
A sticky with all this basic stuff, would be perfect

That's what I'm hoping to create here. If I get some more suggestions, I'll update it. With all the development going on around here, it would be nice to have a newbie sticky! In particular, what I think what many people will want is a guide (or an all-in-one package) that gives root, installs gapps, and enables norefresh and multitouch. I love the devs, but sometimes the "how-to" threads get a bit complex or give too many options (think about how simple it is with an apple product; they dumb it down to one way to install. Give people a choice on anything and they'll get confused and won't do it. Sad but true). And without any stickies, this forum is... frankly, it's a jumbled mess of complex and often overlapping guides.
Once I get up to speed on this I'll try to create my own guide, but until then, I'm calling for you NST experts to link here to the most interesting stuff available; I'll sort and package it when it's ripe!
I'll wait impatiently
I updated the OP with a noob guide to getting norefresh and multitouch running. Anyone know who the mod is for this forum? If so, mind messaging him to sticky this thread?

Thank you very much Slack. Just received the Nook color and Touch and I don't have a clue about anything Android or coding but do want to make my Nooks more 'productive'. Some 'hand-holding' is much appreciated.

Me too! I just got mine Friday, so I figured if I'm going to spend all this time figuring it out, I might as well write it down. I think sometimes the devs get sort of wrapped up in all of the options, so that when you read their guides you have to choose between 4 or 5 options at different steps. As nice as that is to have choice, for most of us (especially those of us who just joined) just want a few simple hacks to start, and are willing to add stuff once we get comfortable. Additionally, the devs don't usually explain the choices (because they're usually explained elsewhere) so you have to track them down, and all the open webpages end up overwhelming your brain and you screw something up.
BTW- If you come up with your own noob-friendly guides, pop them in here and I'll continue to update the OP.
Good job slack, one detail only: in some cases (like mine) nook is set NOT to allow application installation from other sources than market, so you have to change this setting from "nook color tools" , and if this doesn't do any good things get a little complicated http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24302191&postcount=114
Awesome! This is cool. Once I get back from the beach I will be following the guide.

Hey fufutos- I didn't have this issue. Can you write a little noob-friendly guide explaining where and when this needs to be done? If that's too much, just tell me where in my guide I should add a note about this.
I think a mention and the settings change would be o.k. for start. For the rare unlucky guys like me you can provide the link , but they have to set up an adb server... not the easiest task for the occasional newbie...
oh great was looking for something like this...just got my nook simple touch...and as being a flashing whore..i cant stand using stock on any device
I am going to try my hand at creating a noob tutorial for MinimalTouch rooter, maybe with screenshots. I may even try to get a screenshot of CWM
Anyway, I will post it when it is done.
It's been a while since i updated this thread. Sorry, doesn't appear there's a mod for this forum (explains why there's no stickies anywhere...). If anyone want to write a new guide, please do so. One suggestion would be a guide for unrooting and returning to stock...

Did you ever figure out what to do with those lines of code?
Also, I spoke to some friends and they told me that those security blocks are usually removed from legitimate root ROMs... does this mean that the NTG ROM on this forum is bad?
I hope this is the right place to post a question about modifying an existing app. In the long run, I want to create a Xposed module to do the modification, but to get started I work with modding the decompiled app. The app in question is de.zeit.diezeit.epaper.android, which is a German newspaper reader app (I am not expecting anyone to know it). What I want to do is to get rid of the scrolling animation when reading an article, because I am using this app on an eInk device (Icarus Illumina).
Now my problem is, I don't find a starting point. I have to say I don't have much (read: almost none) experience with writing Android apps (although I have a lot of programming experience otherwise). Thus I have no idea how such an animation would be implemented. I searched for references to the Scroller class and replaced the duration argument of the startScrolling method by 5ms, but this didn't change anything.
Is there any way to run the app in some kind of debug mode to see which methods are called at which time? Another idea how to find the right spot might be the trigger of the scroll: I am using the hardware page turn buttons of the device to scroll down exactly one page. How would this be implemented, what should I search for to find the code that reacts on these buttons? (Also: how can I press these buttons in the emulator?)
I am sorry if I am asking too many noob questions. If there is relevant documentation I have obviously missed, please point me to it. Thank you very much for any help!
Try looking under res/anim*

I am sorry if I am asking too many noob questions. If there is relevant documentation I have obviously missed, please point me to it. Thank you very much for any help!

Hi, very late after the question, but I am considering buying an Illumina XL HD e-reader in order to have e-ink to read newspapers. What has been your experience with your device (which model in particular is it?)? Also, I would like to root it. Do you know if that is possible? Finally, did you manage to modify the app? If so, was it difficult?
Hi, hope you found the solution
