[Q] Defy not able to connect to my PC via USB - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i CAN't connect it with my pc and rsd lite can't detect my phone when i plugged it in!
also, i can't charge it via PC nor the power supply(i have tried using moto's one and a unofficial power supply)
but the most wired thing is i can charge it via an"portable battery"
maybe it is an hardware problem and i can't flash back to my official sbf
warranty is now void?
or can i flash a SBF without connect to PC?
give me a now hope plz

Have you tried the boot loader mode (forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Motorola_Defy):
---------------------------------
How to get rsdlite to recognise a phone that won't boot
You flashed, something happened, now screen is black, phone doesn't react, u are in a boot loop, rsdlite cant recognize the phone. you're right here.
To get RSDLIte to recognize your phone you have to enter boot loader mode. this means press VOL-UP + POWER If nothing helps, try pushing VOL UP before!' you put the battery in (RSDLIte should be running and awaiting a new connection at that time) If you are using Windows 7, try seting RSDLite to "compatibility mode: Windows XP SP3".

i have tested the connection in bootmenu and RSDLITE not able to recognize my phone
any ideas?

Hello
Please somebody help me. My notebook doesn't recognise my DEFY via USB. More details: When I got the phone it worked but after a while not always. Sometimes it connected 5 minutes later but nowadays doesn't work at all. By the power charger it's charging normally.
When it's plugged to the computer, the phone's screen lights up, but doesn't connect or charge. If I tick on/off meanwhile the USB debug, the USB sign shows up but it's still not charging or connecting. (I've already tried all 4 options)
Moreover when I remove the USB cable, the USB signal doesn't disappear until I restart the phone or abort the USB in the application manager.
I've already tried to install or uninstall the driver (Moto Helper) but didn't help.
The main problem is that if I connect the phone to the notebook, the device manager doesn't see it. (I tried different computers, Win XP and Win 7)
I did a factory reset several times but nothing happened.
I think there was an automatic software update and maybe the problem started at this time.
This is my first Android phone and I'm not an expert so I really need your help.
I wanted to install a new ROM but the RSD lite doesn't see the phone neither in Bootloader mode. It says: "Connect USB Data Cable" and when I connect it says: "USB" so recognises something.
I'm trying to fix it for weeks but I can't find to solution.
System version: 34.177.3.MB525.Retail.en.GB
Build no: JOREM_U3_3.4.2_177-3
Win7 x64
Sorry about my English and thank you for your help.

I didn't mean bootmenu tommy, BOOTLOADER MODDE: press VOL-UP + POWER, try pushing VOL UP before! to get RSDLIte to recognize your phone(RSDLIte should be running and awaiting a new connection at that time)

Hey poross, I guess that your problem seems like a virus activity or maybe a faulty USB cable. Try another USB cable and another PC (with a good antivirus running, indeed!). Before connecting to the new PC, reset your defy...
I just hope it helps. If not, maybe your defy has a hardware problem...

If you are using windows 7 make sure that you installed good drivers for system x86/x64. I'm using RSD on Windows 7 X64 and I have no problems with it. Check in device manager for some unknown devices after plug phone to USB. If system wont see any new device after plugging it wont be driver problem but something wrong with phone, usb cable or usb port. Even if driver fails system should see the phone like unknown device or something.

actually,i am in bootloader(versoin 9.10) and rsdlite still not able to detect my phone =..=
but i notice that when i plugged it in,the phone showed "transfer mode USB"
but nothing happened in rsdlite,no info of device properties.....
what the hell.....

To tommy:
Let's make a conclusion:
1-You have the correct drivers but RSDLite doesn't recognize your phone even in the bootloader mode
2-The charger can't charge your battery
3-The portable battery CAN charge it! (So the phone connector has no problem)
So: It is most likely that you've got a faulty usb cable

Thanks for dealing with my problem
Chamelleon: The device manager doesn't see anything while the cable is plugged but the phone detects something -probably the USB power- but doesn't connect at all. It happpens in the bootloader mode as well so detects the USB cable but it seems that the phone doesn't send sign to the computer. I haven't had any problem with USB detection, connection (except this phone) for a long time.
MMarv: You mean there's a virus on the phone? if it's the situation, installing a virusbuster to the phone could solve it? Which one is a good prog?

I tried with 3 different cables and still not working. With the wall plug charger and the car's USB socket are ok but none of them charges from the notebook.

I mean Virus on your laptop. Hard reset your phone and try another PC with a good anti-virus installed!

So if cable is ok, usb port in pc and phone is ok it must be driver problem. Delete all what appears as Motorola driver including drivers from system32 and then install it again. You can also try to install it on different PC with 32 bit system. Do not install any unknown drivers, just install Motorola Media Link or Motorola Software Update cause if you have this one and some different it can be problem. Or you just have something wrong with system. First try on different pc with drivers from MML or MSU.

Succeeded.
The solution was incredibly simple. It was strange when I did a factory reset (4 times) and rebooted the phone it restored my acccounts, shortcuts, settings. I ticked off two things: settings/Privacy/Back up my data and Automatic restore. Then took out battery then I put it back and began the reset. After it the phone forgot really everything of my details and now the USB is working perfectly.

however,i have 2ndinit installed
and after factory reset, the phone is still rooted and 2ndinit still here
so will it cause any problem?

Hey Tommy,
I nearly bricked my defy, and the battery was low too. RSDite not able to recognize it. It seemed that charger can't charge the battery either. But I was wrong. The charger was actually charging the battery. I removed the back cover with the charger connected and the battery in place. I tested the two outer connectors of the battery with a voltmeter (when the battery is in place, they are slightly exposed). Initially the voltage was about 3 volts and steadily increased... Test it if you can. If it is not charging, I bet that it is a phone connector problem. You should return it and I think they can repair it easily...

Hi Tommy1994
First I'm not an expert, this is my first android phone.
My probelm was (I think) an android error. I made factory reset 4 times but it always restored my details. (It's not a perfect FR). After it I did a bit different FR:
-1. in the normal android/ settings menu/Privacy/Back up my data -thick off. So it won't make any backup
-2. swich off the phone
-3. take the battery out for 30sec then put back
-4. press the volume down and hold it while you press the power on button but hold the volume down for more 4 sec. you will see an android robot with an exclamation mark.
-5. press the volume up and down together that's how you enter to the Recovery menu.
-6. first chose the "Wipe cache partition" (you can move with the volume buttons and select with the power button) -wait till "Cache wipe complete"
-7. then chose the "Wipe data/factory reset" - wait till "Data wipe complete"
-8. after these chose the "Reboot system now"
-9. if your phone doesn't want to start just get the battery out for 30sec and take back.
note: you will lose everything of your personal details, installed apps...
note2: it's my FROYO's (android 2.2.2) menu probably yours is different
Sorry for my English, hope you understand though.

hope this helps
If your are trying to connect on windows vista or 7 I think you must be loged on as admin of the computer. I had same problem but when I used windows XP it worked fine this is for rsd lite

going to try ,i really hope it will help
thx

i have flashed cm7 and still not able to connect it to PC
i am quite sure it is not software problem, maybe it is about the USB cable?
is that possible the USB cable can charge but not able to transfer data?

hi tommy1994 ,
i'm having the same problem as you, when i'm in the bootloader screen the rds lite program don't find my defy...
have you found any solution?
Thank you very much

[Q] HTC HD2 Won't charge or be recognized via USB

Hello,
I recently successfully installed Windows Phone 7 rom onto my HTC HD2. The phone was working fine and would charge the battery when connected to a dedicated charger on the wall plug as well when it was plugged into another computer. I recently attempted to plug the phone into the computer via USB only to find it wouldn't recognize it ,no prompts on the computer or the orange light on the phone. I turned off the phone, removed the battery for several minutes, I started the phone up again and it would boot into Windows Phone 7 normally without any errors but still it would not be recognized by the computer or allow itself to be charged by an external battery power. I had read somewhere that if I where to select Mass Storage option off the bootloader that it would charge the battery and create a partition on the computer. Huzzah! the computer recognized the partition, but the battery still wasn't charging. Going through multiple threads I have read that it might Magldr others say it's the windows phone 7 rom not being fully stable yet and messing with the battery settings, I don't know where to go from here, i'm hoping someone can help. Here are the direct steps that I took since I got the phone:
Phone: HTC HD2 T Mobile
1. Unlock the phone (successfully)
2. installed HSLP3
3. Flashed Radio leo 2.15.50.14
4. Installed/Flashed MAGLDR113
5. Using USB Flasher installed the LEO70_ROM
That's all no settings afterwards were messed with, and Windows phone 7 came up normally and worked perfectly.
Side note: I have tried multiple micro USB cords and different Socket Wall Chargers.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mr_Pickles
I've yet to find out why it does this, or a step by step guide to fix it, however it is fixable, it will charge battery if you boot to magldr mode, no light will come on but it does charge, mine done this before and came out of it seemingly by its self, or more likely by a combo of things I did, anyhow, charge it up in magldr first, also try using usbdview to list all your USB devices, delete them all, windows can get confused some times
well fancy that, just happened to me again there, ok, so was at work, and my phone wouldnt take a charge via the socket or USB port on a working PC, like i said before it does charge via magldr
anyhow, just got home and plugged it in to my PC that i know it syncs with and all was fine.
So for you i'd definitely suggest deleteing your USB devices to make sure there is no conflicts, charge up your phone via a wall charger in magldr, then get it working with your PC, perhaps then you will get it working,
Thanks, it still isn't charging when it's on MAGLDR, i'm starting to think the battery might be dead. Either way I've ordered an external battery charger and an extra battery, hopefully that solves my issue. Although it still perplexes me why when attempted to connect to a computer it doesn't recognize it.
Unfortunately at this point the battery is completely drain so I can't do anything until the charger and the extra battery comes, but until then i'll keep digging for the answer.
Cheers,
Mr_Pickles

ah yes that is a problem, youve got the charger coming so its a bit late now but that happened to me once, if its just a bit too dead to get you to magldr to charge then i found if you pop it out, wrap it in a cloth and warm it up, do not place it directly on a heat source, by warming it up a bit it helps give it a wee nudge with its chemical reactions inside, potentially enough to get in to magldr.
there is no way of knowing if its charging via magldr other than it not turning off. but with an external on the way you will be fine.
as for it having issues
im guessing its because the battery controller on the HD2 isnt the same as the controller from where the ROM was pulled, meaning whilst its compatible, its not ideal, the not connecting thing could be a symptom of this, im just guessing here but if lets say the battery controler forgets what its doing could that knock out the who USB connection, the USB ports on the computer will have com ports connected whilst the charger will only have the power ports connected, perhaps a combo of all of these things is the reason
but what id do is get it charged first, use the program USBDVIEW (google it) and remove all USB devices associated with a connection to a HUB reboot and connect the HD2 (fully charged) to a different port than usual. it should install drivers and away you go!
Ok! So i got the charger and did all the steps below but still nothing, the computer won't recognize the phone through USB unless I go to Mass Storage option off of MAGLDR. Any thoughts?
The Windows 7 OS runs just fine. It's the connection to the computer/charger through USB that is the problem. Even when loading the boot loader (multi color screen) and then connecting the USB it won't recognize it, the bottom stays on "Serial".
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Mr_Pickles
righty, this could be a challenge,
so usb storage mode IS detected when you plug it in with magldr
therefore we can rule out hardware issues
So physically it will connect, that leaves several different possible issues
first things first, you didnt mess about with USB tethering did you? i really hope you didnt and if you did you better start praying your phone is still unlocked and will allow unsigned apps, and that you still have the USB tethering app installed!
next, WP7 software issue, something is buggered stopping it for connecting,
unlikely if you cant connect via the SPL
Desktop Driver issue.
if there is any USB conflict on your PC it can create many problems for you did you try uninstalling all USB devices using USBDVIEW in admin mode, then try plugging it in again?
ok some other questions, does MAGLDR allow you to go to and use USB flasher mode, as if you where updating you WP7 ROM? does your PC connect and install a device driver when you plug it in? (make sure you deleted all USB devices before hand)
lastly, do you have access to another computer that has NOT had this phone plugged in to?, purely to see if it will get detected in SLP mode or ideally in WP7 itsself? this would obviously rule out your whole PC and would help pinpoint the issue!
Hi Dazza,
Here are the answers to your questions:
Q: first things first, you didnt mess about with USB tethering did you? i really hope you didnt and if you did you better start praying your phone is still unlocked and will allow unsigned apps, and that you still have the USB tethering app installed!
A: I did not mess with the USB tethering, my phone is still unlocked.
Q: Desktop Driver issue.
if there is any USB conflict on your PC it can create many problems for you did you try uninstalling all USB devices using USBDVIEW in admin mode, then try plugging it in again?
A: Yes I did, it still did not connect to the device, not allowing to view it as a storage device or charge the phone. The phone also does not recognize that it has been plugged in to the computer.
Q: ok some other questions, does MAGLDR allow you to go to and use USB flasher mode, as if you where updating you WP7 ROM? does your PC connect and install a device driver when you plug it in? (make sure you deleted all USB devices before hand)
A: Yes it does, it installs the drives and the phone shows the connection has been made through USB.
Q: lastly, do you have access to another computer that has NOT had this phone plugged in to?, purely to see if it will get detected in SLP mode or ideally in WP7 itsself? this would obviously rule out your whole PC and would help pinpoint the issue!
A: Yes I have. I tried 3 different computers and none of them recognize the phone.
Side notes:
- I have flashed an Android ROM to see if that would fix the error so I can switch back to WIN 7, but even with the android ROM the computer still does not recognize the phone being plugged in, nor does the phone recognize it has been plugged into the computer.
- When I have gone to the bootloader (multi color screen) in my attempts to bring back the phone to it's orginal state, it still does recognize the phone and won't let me install the base OS and radios for the phone.
I hope this info helps, man i'm really starting to regret getting this phone.
Thanks,
Mr_Pickles
ok, think we need to start again, its sounding all a bit dodgy, MAGLDR is working but the bootloader and WP7 itsself isnt....
you tried reflashing android to no effect
the only common denominator is the SPL/HSPL and the Radio
However because bootloader isnt working in USB mode you cant flash....
SO, next attempt is.....
Format a small SD card, format it as FAT32 or if that fails try FAT16 (512MB card) this is the tricky bit because some cards will not work.
Downloaded the original ROM for your device, usually a .exe file
Open the exe with a zip/rar program,
Extracted RUU_signed.nhb,
Move ruu-signed.nbh to your sd card,
Rename ruu_signed.nbh to leoimg.nbh
Then power phone off,
pop your small SD card with leoimg on in your HD2
Press and hold volume down, tap power but contiue to hold vol down.
The phone should boot into bootloader mode, and it "should" automatically discover there is a leoimg.nbh file on your sd card and ask you to flash.
If it is the wrong image, you should get a failed install message, but if you phone does nothing at all then either the sd card is faulty or the sd card reader is faulty (unlikely if WP7 was using it), or the nbh file is corrupt.
Faulty SD cards could be format issues, ideally you would format the card in the device itsself but you dont have that option unless android will let you do it, which is always an option!
Righty, hopefully that will reset your device SPL radio and all to the original state, if it works and you can get 6.5 working again see how you get it, its a hunch but i reckeon the SPL got buggered up, i cant see any other logical reason for it not to work, think of the SPL as a BIOS on your PC, if you turn USB off in your BIOS you dont have usb working in the OS.
Just to add to the topic here. If you can still transfer data but not charge or receive power via USB does not mean it is not a hardware issue. It just means the pins for data transfer in the USB port are working. A standard USB port has 5 pins in it (this includes micro and mini USB ports) only 2 of the pins are for power transfer the other 3 are for data transfer.
Also if you do not have ActiveSync or WMDC installed on the computer you connect to via USB while in bootloader you will not get the HTC USB sync (USB in white bar of bootloader) connection because these programs have the USB drivers for the HTC USB sync connection, they are not preloaded on the HD2. Therefore the do not auto install when you plug your USB cable in and are in bootloader. I learned this thechard way.
The OP had posted in the HD2 General forum too and I had advised them to try to use a multi meter to test the battery pins while the charger is plugged into the HD2 to comfirm voltage is getting to the battery. I also advised them to try and flash back to a Windows Mobile ROM to see if charging was possible. Both of these things would rule out a hardware issue.
MAGLDR still has this charging bug, it will let you charge while in USB Mass Sty bit it is not charging the battery correctly and this why, quoted straight from the first post inthe MAGLDR thread.
Battery controller inside LEO needs runtime control during charge, it implemented in OS.,
Click to collapse
The runtime control means that MAGLDR can not control the rate at which the battery is charged which is not good for 2 reasons. One too little (too slow) of a charge rate or too much (too fast) of a charge rate is detramental to your battery life and battery chargeablity. The secound is to much voltage going to the battery can cause the Li-Ion battery in the HD2 to explode. Now reason number 2 is a very unlikely senerio as all common USB type wall chargers only put out 5.0v to 5.1v and that is safe for Li-Ion batteries, but there is still the risk. But as the quote says the "run time control" is implamented by the OS so when you charge with your HD2 booted into the OS it is safe and not harmful to your battery.
I hope the OP gets their charging issue worked out and I hope it is not a hardware issue.
indeed, the power pins as you pointed out could be the issue, im trying not to complicate things at the moment because even if it was, it should still commence coms to the computer, it does connect via magldr so we can assume that firstly the cable is ok on the data lines, secondly the PC is able to detect the device meaning the device itsself is working
We can also assume that if all USB devices have been removed and no ActiveSync or WMDC is installed then Windows would still detect new hardware but will fail to install it, if the drivers were present and it connected we'd have fixed half the problem!
physically it can connect (magldr proven) but something is prohibiting it in bootloader and the OS, the PC isnt detecting it at all. I dont understand why magldr works and bootloader doesnt unless magldr is able to run its own form of bios, i dont know how it works so i couldnt be sure, so im running with a hunch that the HSPL/SPL is buggered as it wont connect to the pc in bootloader.... if we can flash via SD it will help rule that out.
aye the charger thing on magldr is concerning, but it will be ok to give it a short amount of juice to get to windows, overcharging is the issue, could potentially blow up but its unlikely, the plug charger should have a built in IC to knock it down to a trickle charge when it detects its reversing the polarity....should! lol
Thanks everyone, i'm planning on trying this out tonight when I get home and using the SD to bring it back to stock. Hopefully this solves the problem otherwise I'm thinking that T-Macgnolia is correct and one of the Pins in the USB is broken and would need to be fixed.
I really do appreciate all the effort you guys have given in your response.

its possible that the bootloader or the OS needs the power to be connected in order to function, you did say that you have tried different USB ports and a number of cables, the only other posibility would be that the pin on the phone its self is broken, thats going to be difficult to test.
do the SD thing first, if that doesnt work boot to android, note the battery level, get it to around 50%, then turn off the phone and boot to MAGLDR, you do not need to have it in USB storage mode or anyother mode, just leave it plugged in at the MAGLDR menu.
now the USB port on a PC will provide no more than 500mAh, so if you had 50% charge that would be about 600mAh in the battery, leave the phone plugged in to your PC in MAGLDR menu for an hour, that should give it no more than 1100mAh of juice, (it will actually be less than that as your screen will still be sucking juice)
if you use the 1A wall charger then only charge it for 30min, just to be on the safe side. (if you can i would recomend this one as it rules out any issues with data pins) and if its not working it wont completely drain your battery sitting there with the screen on
anyhow, boot back in to android and see what the battery level is indicating, if its gone up you know its charging, if its gone down you know it isnt, which may indicate a broken phone.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Success! Loading the stock ROM through the SD and finally my computer recognizes the phone! Thank you so much everyone for your help, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

no probs mate, thats why XDA dev is here!
i think its almost certain its a SPL issue, possibly got corrupted somehow, least you know its not hardware, i know this sounds a bit much after all you just went through but dont give up on WP7
Hi Guys,
I had exactly the same problem as Mr_Pickles.
I had tried reflashing the stock rom using the SD card method.
Everything installed normally, but after the flashing the HTC logo appears followed by the Radio version and other info shown in the bottom of the screen in red text.
Then the mobile reboots and keeps doing the same thing again and again.
Could someone help me on this please?

HSPL 2.0 installed, Stock rom installed via sd card method, still the same problem.
The point is that I read somewhere to just keep on flashing wp7, which works fine until operating XBmod-Yuki Rom Build 7004:
- While the wp7 works fine, the phone can't be recognized by any PC via USB, so i can't update the build via update cab sender
- But: The phone is detectable and chargable in bootloader mode, so now hardware issue?
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance!
Hello,
I have had this problem in the past and it stumped me for a bit of time until I looked very carefully at how I was resetting the device. If you are not careful and with flashing etc you will be ripping the battery out all the time.
Look at the device with the battery out and you will see those 3 little pins. They need to be in a line for the battery to make decent contact with it. Over time if you are constantly taking out your battery it will bend them... you can just use your finger to straighten them.
That should do it. It got to a point I always take out my battery carefully now and make sure these pins are aligned before putting it back in.
okay, this is my time to post here.

1. I did install your latest rom
2. after some time it stopped charging at all

4. at the end of story battery got dead - can't load magldr.
5. managed to direct power on it via red/black cables of usb to +/-

7. and even more - can't enable usb via bootloader (tricolor) - serial only:
- usb flasher works only with wp7 rom install;
- magldr, hspl, task29 flash via usb flasher fails with critical error 0000001;
- naturally, can't flash winmo;
- usb storage works well."
1. nbh of the default os flashed fine
2. pins are aligned
3. issue is still here
please, help if you can

2. after some time it stopped charging at all
3. the problem is the phone got unable to charge under sd android as well.
4. at the end of story battery got dead - can't load magldr.
5. managed to direct power on it via red/black cables of usb to +/-
6.but the problem still the same - I can't charge battery via phone
7. and even more - can't enable usb via bootloader (tricolor) - serial only:
- usb flasher works only with wp7 rom install;
- magldr, hspl, task29 flash via usb flasher fails with critical error 0000001;
- naturally, can't flash winmo;
- usb storage works well."
1. nbh of the default os flashed fine
2. pins are aligned
3. issue is still here

HTC HD2 Won't charge or be recognized via USB

Hello,
** I posted this in the Windows forum but I have since flashed to Android and the problem continues so i'm posting on here for hope that someone will help **
Here are the direct steps that I took since I got the phone:
Phone: HTC HD2 T Mobile
1. Unlock the phone (successfully)
2. installed HSLP3
3. Flashed Radio leo 2.15.50.14
4. Installed/Flashed MAGLDR113
5. Using USB Flasher installed the LEO70_ROM
6. Flashed Android 2.2
That's all no settings afterwards were messed with, and Windows phone 7 came up normally and worked perfectly.
Side notes:
-I have tried multiple micro USB cords and different Socket Wall Chargers.
-I have tried multiple computers that never had the phone installed on it before and it won't recognize it.
- USB Flasher on MAGLDR does work, the phone recognizes that it is connected to the PC and the PC installs the drives when applicable.
- Boot loader (multi color screen) also isn't recognized on the computer when connected in that mode.
- I have used USDEVIEW to uninstall all USB connections installed previously on the computer and still it does not pick up the phone.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mr_Pickles
I have a question, when you connectcyour HD2 to your computer via USB while in bootloader you do not get USB in the white bar of bootloader or HTC USB sync in the safe to remove device?
Have you checked your battery pins on your HD2 to makecsure none of them are out of alignment or bent in any kind of way?
Also your HD2 should show up as MAGLDR in the safe to remove thing when you havecit connected to your computer and select option #4 USB Mass Sty or option #5 USB Flasher.
Hi T-Macgnolia,
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly, please see below for answers to your questions.
Q: When you connectcyour HD2 to your computer via USB while in bootloader you do not get USB in the white bar of bootloader or HTC USB sync in the safe to remove device?
A: No it doesn't, the White bar stays at "Serial" and HTC USB Sync does not appear on the "Safe to remove Device" section on the computer.
Q: Have you checked your battery pins on your HD2 to makecsure none of them are out of alignment or bent in any kind of way?
A: All battery pins are straight, there are none that are bent or out of alignment.
Q: Also your HD2 should show up as MAGLDR in the safe to remove thing when you havecit connected to your computer and select option #4 USB Mass Sty or option #5 USB Flasher.
A: Yes, it does show up in my computer in the "Safe to remove" section when plugged in during option 4 USB Mass Storage and option 5 USB Flasher. The phone also recognizes that it has been connected to the computer while in the USB Flasher mode, so I'm still able to flash other ROMS.
I hope this helps you diagnose the problem. Thanks again for your help.
Mr_Pickles
Ok from what you told me you still have working data connection via your micro USB portcon your HD2. The no USB in the white barcode bootloader could probably be fixed by downloading and installing the most recent version of ActiveSync or WMDC from Microsoft, depending on which Windows your computer uses. Those programs contain USB drivers for Windows Mobile devices. But that is just for data transfer not for power transfer.
It kinda sounds like you maybe, and I stress maybe have some problems with the power pins on your HD2. If you have access to a multimeter you could pull your battery outand plug your charger into your HD2 and test from the positive pin to the negative pin (look at the battery to tell which is which) to see if you are getting voltage to the battery.
My best suggestion to you is to flash a Windows Mobile ROM to your HD2 and see if it is charging then. If it does charge you know your micro USB port is working, if it does not charge you have a faulty USB.port. Download and install the above mentioned ActiveSync or WMDC to regain your HTC USN sync while in bootloader.
Hi Mr_Pickles did you ever find a solution to your problem, im having the same issue with my HD2
Yes, I had exactly the same issue. Think it is Window7 related. Found myself a PC with XP, installed active sync 4.5 and solved it

Bricked Jiayu S3 Advanced help!

Yesterday i flashed my Jiayu S3 to lolipop (i tought) and i just bricked my phone!
After reboot it was just dead.. when i plug into pc with USB i hear the connect sound and after 2 seconds the disconnect sound. This keeps on going until i pull the USB plug. When i look in DeviceManager i see it refresh after every sound, but nothing pops up (unknown device or whatever). I deletet all usb drivers with usbdeview, restart pc but still no changes.
I tried with or without battery, but without it does nothing at all.. i tried holding Vol+ or - or both or with power button, but nothing.
Read some threads about unbrick and install correct usb driver for jiayu s3, but all the options they came with does not work on my device!
I'm a little despered now and don't know what to do.. i get the feeling that my 2 weeks old phone is dead? :'(
My pc has windows 7
Did the flash with SP Flashtool 5.1516
Did not untick preload in flashtool, i guess i got the wrong preload or something??

Just flash it again, but this time with "Firmware upgrade " in SP Flashtool instead of "Download". Change from KK to LL needs reepartitioning, so firmware upgrade.
The reason why you don´t "see" the S3 any longer on the pc is, that the USB storage mode from KK, which is driverless for windows, don´t work right now on LL.
Once flashed to LL you will need to install a driver, for windows to connect to the S3.
@ Dior DNA:
No i can't. Phone does nothing with the buttons. Only diference if i hold Vol - then time from connect sound and disconnect sound is a little longer.. about 10 seconds. But still nothing happens.
@1testi:
Flashtools can't see my phone. I tried it a hundred times. With battery, without battery, with Vol - and with Vol +.
When i connect the USB cable i hear the connect sound and after 2 a 3 seconds i hear disconnect sound. This goes on and on until i pull the USB cable out. In devicemanager i see a refresh going on, but nothing pops up.
I'm realy despered on what to do now?

Why the SP Flashtool isn´t working any longer? You didn´t deinstalled the driver, did you? Just try to flash again with "Firmware Upgrade".
I don´t know a way to reinstall the driver in windows without the preloader. The only thing you can do, as far as i know, is to use a linux
pc to flash again. Linux don´t need a driver for SPF, only some rules.

Booting into recovery or flashtool I meant regardless of pc and/or spflashtool.
If I recall correctly:
hold volup and power boots recovery
hold voldn and power boots flashtool
If you can boot recovery then which one is it? Maybe you can restore something or manually flash preloader bin from there.
After the flash i reboot and then the connect and disconnect sound appears. So i tried differend things, but could not connect. I wanted to flash again, but flashtool did not reconice the phone and nothing in DeviceManager. That's why i thought to remove the driver and try to re-install it. But that did not help..
Holding Vol - or + button with power button or both Vol buttons with power button does nothing.. i tried to hold all combinations at least 30 seconds, but nothing at all.
I have no Linux pc or any knowhow to make a Linux pc.. or a pc to install Linux on..
One last thing you can try: remove the battery, wait a little, insert the battery again. Hold vol+ key, keep holding it and press power
button, while still holding the vol+. If you don´t see anything happening then you bricked the phone.
You will need help from a professional or at least from someone with a linux machine, sorry.
I'll try that.
You have any idea what could have caused the brick?
As i wrote above, moving from KK to LL with wrong parameter "Download" in SPF.
....and a not working recovery.
You should try this method :
darmowyinternet.net/forum/temat-poradnik-jak-uruchomic-uceglony-telefon-po-wgraniu-zlego-romu-test-point_383
unfortunately you have to translate before
Ok i tried that site with google translate and i could a little make up what they are saying.
But that is a very drastically operation, and i would like to give it some other tries before dismantling my phone.
So i googled and googled.. came here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889128
Had enough electronics lying around from my former 27mc hobby, so searched for the right resistors,
cut up a micro usb cable and give it a try... well.. nothing! Tried for about an hour and gave up.
Then i googled on Unbrick Jigs, but for what i read they are only for Samsung phones, so i gues the trick
with the resistors were also?
So googling again... came here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2454004
Reading the tread and the comments, someone mentioned a download for "Mediatek Driver Auto Installer".
Downloaded that and installed the drivers. Plugged in my phone and... whoohoo!! Something is happening! :silly:
My devicemanager saw an "Alcatel single RNDIS interface". I unplugged and plugged my phone a few times to
be sure it was my phone. Sooo... one step further! :good:
Then i googled on this device.. came up with all sorts of network devices, not helpfull. Then googled on Jiayu with
this device. Came up with this tread: https://www.china-devices.com/topic...vcomm-drivers-onto-your-pc-win-7vistaxp-only/
It's a tread about bricked Jiayu G3 devices, but i thought, 'What the heck, lets give it a try!'.
I downloaded the "MTK Megapack - All Tools Here!" and unpacked. Wend back to device manager and manually updated the driver
of the Alcatel device. Show all devices - browse - wend to Megapack map and there were MTK drivers for the 65xx device.
And yess.. when i plug in my phone there's the device: " MTK USB Port (COM7) "
SP Flashtools sees my phone again! :good:
Tried to flash a stock preloader, but got an error: "BROM ERROR : S_FT_ENABLE_DRAM_FAIL (4032) – [EMI] Enable DRAM failed!"
But for now that's a problem for tomorrow.. it's almost 2:30 and i have to got some sleep!
(sorry for the misspellings or telling things not clear, i'm tired and english is not my main language)
Grats!
You can google the error. This leds you in the right direction.
It's alive!!!!!! :laugh::silly::victory:
Because the kitkat stockrom i downloaded gave me the same error over and over i searched for something else.
So i downloaded TF Extreme lolipop 5.1 this morning and give it a try. And all went well. I pulled the usb plug and
pushed power button.. only vibration but nothing. Then pulled the battery and after few seconds put it back in
and try power again. Only 1 vibration.. then tried Vol + and - combinations but nothing. (dammn!)
Then plug the usb in and i saw the battery icon.. it was total empty! (because of a week trying).
So now it's charging and i hope it starts, can't wait!!
Thanx all for the effort in helping me out! :good:
Edit: Ok, so i could not wait and hit power! It shows green screen with Jiayu S3 logo and text "New Load". So i guess it's prepairing for first startup!
my s3 basic is not charging when on.. also when connected to pc thru usb, ipc shows device malfunctioning ,and there is no indication on phone..I try to connect to sp flash tool also no success..same error"usb device not recognized pops up every 2s.everything else is fine..Any method to upgrade to 5.1 now on official kk
Kinda need help, happened something similar
It happened something similar to me.
I flashed the whole ROM, bootloader included, I was very sure that my model, Jiayu S3 3GB ROM + 32GB RAM, was the correct, but still bricked my phone.
There's no problem at all when I plug it into my PC, I installed the lastest MTK drivers on windows 10, having to disable the signature enforcement.
The problem comes when I start flashing. I only mark the bootloader, then I press "Download" (on the lastest version of SP Flash Tools), and plug the phone, with the battery in it (I've tried without battery, pressing all possible combinations and does nothing), when I plug it in with the battery and pressing no buttons, the driver is detected as MTK USB Port. That's a good thing I guess. But It does not pass from the red bar, and gives me the known error "Enable DRAM Failed".
I've tried to google any possible solutions, reinstalling other version of the MTK drivers, on different versions of Windows, with other versions of official ROMs, and the result is always the same.
The only thing that's left to try is flashing it with an Ubuntu machine, which is something I do not expertise to be honest, but I'm gonna gather some info and try to do it.
However, if someone has any idea of what I might be doing wrong (excluding the part when I flashed the bootloader, I'll never do it again), I would be really grateful for any kind of help.
Thank you!

Oeps it might be the same problem with the 32GB version as I have.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68036678&postcount=295
I am waiting for a stock ROM backup.
I have learned to never flash the original preloader again.

You're right, with the 32GB rom version (which is still unavaliable for public use) it worked! I still got it here, so anyone feel free to ask me the link too.
Thanks to xtyphoon and Dior DNA and everyone who made this possible, if you ever come to Girona city, I'll buy you a drink ;D

Yes, I have the same problem. G920P
Teardown check after I found the USB interface power supply is normal!
The '1.9 v from The then measured normal tail current 5 v
I ruled out the power supply and USB interface problems
Has not ruled out the mainboard problem

NO. I tried all the way to still can't normal computer connection

Google Nexus 4 Does not show up as USB device but charging OK.

Got myself a google LG Nexus 4.
Connecting via USB - 2 different cables, 2 computers, 3 different operating systems (archlinux, debian, windows vista ) - i get nothing (*).
the phone does not acknowledge that it is connected to a computer, but it charges ok.
the computers do not recognize the phone in any way, not even in dmesg (or device manager in windows).
i have tried changing options inside the phone (debugging on/off, mtp/ptp...), even a full factory reset, and going into recovery and wiping cache/dalvik cache. - nothing.
wiggling the cable and such does not help.
i even replaced the usb connector, no change whatsoever.
so something tells me that it is not a hardware problem.
the phone has been upgraded to android 5.0 (before i became the owner).
my endless searches show that nobody knows what's going on, it might be hardware fatigue, it might be related to the upgrade to 5.x, it might be a firmware problem...
any helpful pointers, including downgrading & softbricking the system would be helpful (i just want to install ubuntu phone onto it).
(*) my other android phone connects ok with both cables, to all machines and operating systems.
With the phone in fastboot or recovery mode, is it recognized?
The fact that the usb port has been changed could indicate a problem with the motherboard connector.
Go into device manager with your phone connected and uninstall the drivers. Then install "universal adb driver"(google it it's from Koush) with your phone NOT connected.

i tried adb, the device list is empty.
booting into recovery, replugging the usb cable, i still get nothing. it's like there's nothing to communicate to, both from the computer's and the phone's point of view.
i will have to play with fastboot (i gather it works only while the phone is booted into recovery?), but i doubt it'll change anything.

do you mean the connector from the usb port, that flat cable snap-on thingy (far right on this image)?
is it realistic to try to fix that?
PS:
meanwhile the battery drained completely and i had a "Red light of death" which i managed to fix like this. i think it will take a while to recharge properly.
Adb commands will work with the phone booted into the rom. Use fastboot commands with the phone in fastboot mode.
Yes, the flat part at the it her end of the USB cable is what connects to the motherboard and is not worth fixing if that is causing the charging problem.
With a red LED, just connect it to a 2.0 amp charger using the original charging cable and let it charge for a few hours.
thanks again.
next thing i realized that the volume rocker isn't working (anymore?).
so i can't boot into recovery.
i don't know how, but once i managed to get into recovery, but couldn't make any choices in there.
anyhow, that sort of cinches it: i'm done with this phone. project failed.
(nevermind, it was a cheap ebay shot)
ubuntu phone will have to wait.
