remove touchwiz and go back to honeycomb - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hello I just got my 10.1 tab yesterday.. And so far i dont like touchwiz and i wwanted to know if i can somehow get honeycomb back on the 10.1 if so please let me no with links or steps.. And i am not rooted so if i can get help i would appreciate it.. Thanks

I have an 8.9 Tab and am also interested in a stock honeycomb setup. I had one of the first batch of 10.1 units without TouchWiz and would like the same on my 8.9.
Is there a way to disable TouchWiz or strip it from the rom?

Without going back to 3.1, this is not possible.
the best thing I could recommend you is flashing Tasks new 3.2 ROM and then the ICS-Theme over it.

So you get a "almost" stock experience and the best speed. 3.1 was never as smooth as 3.2 is.

Has anyone tried this yet?

Differences between Acer-based 3.1 ROMs?

Hi, anyone want to engage in a discussion of the differences between the new Acer-based 3.1 Honeycomb ROMs??
We've got Dexter's Aconia ROM, Virtuous Picasso 1.0.5+, HoneyVillain, and maybe some others too. What are the pros and cons of each? I tried Dexter's PRIMEE ROM, but wasn't keen on the ASUS/Acer issues. I am currently running Virtuous 1.0.5, but think I might try Dexter's next. Now that these have gone to the leaked Acer 3.1, they should be easier to compare...
I'm talking ONLY the Acer-based ROMs... What works in one but not in the other, what does one do better than the other, etc., etc. Not trying to bash any one ROM -- I am sure each one is great -- just trying to figure out which one to go with long-term.
EDIT: I just realized I may have put this in the wrong place... sorry. If this should go in the "General" discussion, I apologize. Can it be moved or closed (and restarted in General)?
I was wondering the same. I now have the default stock 3.1 loaded and rooted my device. But reading the positive storys of the other roms, I actually want to try them. But not sure where to begin.
Perhaps Ill just wait a week or so and see which thread is most active, that will prob be the most popular rom

Will it be any different to what we have though? I don't exactly trust Acer to come through with the goods.

Main issue this leak is from china and for me my main issue is uk locale. Websites think I am in wrong region like bbc iplayer etc. English us is only language option in location. The Asus rom is global and when you buy a transformer the 3.1 updates downloads auto and asks you to install it. However Acer are lagging behind too busy with w500 tablet to offer us official 3.1. Asus rom also more multimedia focussed so many parts of it blow this Acer roms away. Widgets on Asus rom are great like email and weather even clock. Pcasso 1.07 is good but graphic glitches and reboots make it a no no for me. Honeyvillian is good but I need a bit more flare on this iconia. Picasso will push this tablet and get most out of it as m-deejay is a major dev. Too early to judge as we really just started here

I'm using tabonay right now, because it's the first one I found that did not require a data wipe when going from acer stock rom. (At the moment, i wasn't inclined to reinstall my apps and widgets). Can't say anything for the other 3.1 roms, as I havn't tried them yet.

Sticking with Virtuous 1.0.6
I have Virtuous 1.0.6 working flawlessly now; and given the nasty bugs that've been reported on 1.0.7 and on Dexter's mod, I won't be updating anytime soon. I don't have any need to overclock so I guess I'm fine with what I've got for now.
I'll wait until things settle down a bit and go with the ROM that seems the least buggy. I imagine things will continue to develop at a furious pace for a couple weeks, then slow down.

where you able to retain your apps from 3.0.1? or have to wipe/format...
I am running HoneyVillain and it may not have much flash as previously mentioned, it is very stable. Given how soon its been since the first ROM was ported, I am putting more emphasis on stability for now.
Well, since Virtuous 1.0.8 is now out with Acer and ASUS based ROMs, I took the plunge (I'm a sucker for new versions). It's awesome. Overclocked by default and running silky smooth.
I think you could probably skip a wipe (and thus keep your apps) if you go straight from 3.0.1 or 3.1 to Virtuous 1.0.8 (as long as you go with the Acer-based ROM). I'm not sure. I wiped before going to a custom ROM.
Keep in mind, you'll lose all settings on your system apps, as the system folder gets deleted.
In case I have missed any thing. Are there any kernel source available for Acer based 3.1 rom up to now? If no, why some self compiled kernel say it can compatible with both Acer & Asus 3.1 ROM? Thanks.
I am using leaked 3.1 advantage being there is no need to wipe out data , disadvantage cannot overclock .

got a day off from work today so gonna update to virtuous 1.0.8 and see how i get on. i have donation titanium backup so full data wipe isnt a prob for me.

whats the best unbranded Galaxy S2 Stock Rom

I really like the stock Rom
Not quite ready to flash a new one yet (unless a good MIUI shows up)
I think the stock rom is very smooth and only really needs root to be a good everyday workable rom, until something outstanding shows up.
I currently have stock branded orange rom (rooted) witha most of the orange and samsung apps frozen with titanium backup.
I am looking for a totally (or near as dammit) stock Rom but without all the branding form orange, and unnecessary apps running in the background so i can get better battery life.
Any ideas on the best one for my purpose.
LeoMar Mod with Ninpho kernel.

may take a look at LeoMar Mod with Ninpho kernel in the meantime.
Sick of this horrible orange logo on bootup
I'm using the leaked stock XXKG3 together with the Ninphetamine v2.02 Kernel and all is well.
Good battery life, smooth rom with no issues and no restarts, looking forward to the 'official' release.
In the meantime if you want to flash it via Odin here's a link:

I have installed Lite'ning Rom v4.1 XXKG3 - Fast as Lightning, but not happy as I thought and experienced custom ROM's before.
Now, can I install any of the stock (original) SGS2 ROMs or should I find the same one I had in my phone before I flashed custom ROM??
Thanks

I owned the SGS1 when it came out and it desperately needed fixes and alternative ROMs, now with the SGS2 I am a bit surprised because I ended up to the same conclusion as you. I feel no need for custom ROMs. The stock ain't so bad, TouchWiz is decent, it runs stable enough, really have no issues.
So I'm also looking for a clean Samsung stock ROM to get rid of all of my operator junk (useless apps taking resources, startup/shutdown logos, etc). Plus it's bad to have to wait more when a new version comes out as operators take ages to customize them (still on KE6/KEB)
I think I will wait until the first official "clean" Samsung 2.3.4 comes out tho... right now it is pretty good, except for the usual battery problem (that IMHO can only be really fixed with a fat 3000 mAh battery or so)
Well for now AOKP roms are the way to go I think any way, roms like RootBOX and Resurrection Remix along with either Fluxxi, CM9 or Siyah kernel
Should check them out
I use NeatRomLite v1.1 and I'm extremely satisfied!! Both with battery life, speed and smoothness! Try it, you'll love it!!

The 'best ROM' is the one that works best for your phone. Try a few out and make your own decision.

What ROM please suggest!

Hi! Just got a Tab and rooted it.
I have a Galaxy S phone so I'm kind of experienced in Samsung stuff (a little) so what ROMs and kernels are best?
Thanks!

Galaxy Task ROM + Pershoot's kernal
Just my opinion
My advice is to stick with stock rom or use latest leaked stock rom.
Real tuning can be done without flashing custom rom, rooting is enough, for instance fixing low screen sensitivity using Screen Tuner app.

Use Task 6.1, it already has pershoot's OC. Touch screen has been tuned. Browser works great. It has all the bells and whistles.

I second that! If you're rooted, there's really no point in not trying something different; and while all the developers for the Tab here have done great work, I'm partial to Task's stuff. I can count on one finger the number of times I've had a problem with any of his roms...and he fixed that in minutes. Try to get that kind of response from Samsung!

When you flash with a custom rom you a replacing your existing rom and custom roms usually grant you root access. CWR is clockwork recovery . You flash that to replace the standard recovery. makes it easier to install custom ROMs

Cassie rom is the fastest yet, just tried darky 1.3 but it was slow!
Just flashed Rocket Rom V12 and very impressed with the speed. Completely smooth scrolling and excellent battery performance so far.
Sorry I stick to stock deodexed rom. Most of Rome in development are just themed stock.

I used to flash roms on my SGS so much.. however with the Note I am very happy with rooted stock... very fast.. not a single lag in scrolling.. smooth unlocks and camera... I play 1080p videos via HDMI on my 46inch and 3D gaming is excellent and I am happy with the Samsung luncher as well... I will wait for the stable ICS roms...

Still Im looking forward to the final Darkyrom, since I used it on my SGS1...
Stock rooted.
Yes I've tried Cassie, rocket and darkyrom. Sorry stock has always been smooth to me. Specially with kl7 release, I take 2min out my busy day and delete apps, theme, and make tweaks my own.
Its been the same since sgs2. Rooted stock rom, someone else's kernal and some tacky theme on top.

So far...stock is the one for me.

Definitely AOPK or CM9. Much better than any Gingerbread rom I've tried.

CM9 and Hyperdroid are my 2 favorite ROM's. Hyperdroid doesn't work with 1 game though (T-Aiko!), and CM9 isn't supported on an app I beta test, so I tend to switch back and forth between the ROM's
My favorite roms BOCA rc1 final project ( fastest benchmarks)
i get myself root then use spareparts+ and cf-root tweak manager, and i get myself a smoother and faster response.
mine is build number dxjpi, root using kernel cf-root 3.3 jq1 (android 2.3.3).

My favorite ROM is OVERCOME (Overcome 7 Series v4.1.0) .
I am using it with Overcome Kernel v4.0.0 and lsherif's RTL patch.
CM9. Tablet UI beats anything gingerbread can pull even if you lose the rear camera for photos, still it works on apps like angel camera but no flash. I installed cm9 and won't go back, ever.

Not sure it's the fastest, but certainly not far from it. The difference is the user interface; so user friendly that I'm finally really using my SGT.
I tried the CM9 2 days ago but I find that it's not quite smooth when viewing web pages whether I used Dolphin browser, Opera, Chrome or the stock browser. Any way to overcome this?
I'm mainly using Opera mobile (not mini) on CM9 + latest humberos kernel and browsing is pretty smooth.
I have tried a few different roms on my Tab and IMO Overcome 4.1.0 and 4.0.0 are my favs as far as speed and stability its the best for daily use I have no probs on my Tab at all...
For me, its a toss between hyperdroid and boca rc1.
