cant get into recovery - Blade General

i have a gen 1 blade. i bought it used and it has Jap Jelly.
i want to install the cm7 7.0.2 which i believe is the latest stable and there is a method i want to follow which apparently is an image that when i go into recovery it just installs, easy as that.
unfortunately i cant get into recovery. tried vol+ and power, vol+, menu and power and also vol- and power. none work and simply restart phone.
i have read that using rom manager which i have installed automatically installs a recovery meant to be for gen 2 and that is why it doesnt work.
would anyone be able to shead light on this please?
thanks guys, marc

Go to your battery options and turn off quick start. Try again and it should work.

cheers mate but i cant see that option anywhere

If you want to install CM7, don't bother with 7.0.2. Its really really old, and the new versions are much better and much more stable. You'd be much better to use the TPT from here and then flash the latest nightly using Clockwork. The TPT method will install a Gen 2 recovery as well, so you don't need to worry about doing that.

cheers mate.
first i uninstalled rom manager and reinstalled and then it allowed the older recovery managers to be selected. i selected and older one and i could then get into recovery.
coincidentally i had found that 7.1 method and i have just completed it, the phone is just installing my apps etc from the sync with google etc.
thanks again.

seems your phone not rooted yet, dude. try to root it first. I always use SuperUser it to perform this.

the easy way to get the latest cm7 running on your unrooted blade is to do this method i find it very noob friendly.
Root the ZTE Blade using super on click (simple google search will find the program you need) once the phone is rooted you can update your phone from GEN1 to GEN2 automatically and it will also install cm7 nightly 257 automatically
Links
Super One click: here
Gen1 to Gen2 TPT Upgrade: here (make sure you download CM Nightly 257 Version (Upgrades from Gen1 to Gen2 & installs latest CyanogenMod nightly build - all in one))
once the phone is rooted and the downloaded file is placed on the root of the sd card all you have to do is power off your phone and power on with menu & vol+ held
hope this helps you mate

[GUIDE] Universal AndRoot - 1-click root (works on MyTouch 3G 1.2)

This is a guide on how to root your phone and install a custom ROM using Universal AndRoot. It supports several phone models and is the simplest way to root a phone I have ever seen. It features a 1 click root and a 1 click unroot option. Rooting with this method does NOT affect your bootloader, therefore if your phone needs serviced you can (theoretically, I have not verified this to be true) simply unroot and restore to normal.
As always myself, XDA, ROM developers, your friends, your mom, the rulers of the world and the developers of this app are NOT responsible for any bricks YOU create by taking the risk of rooting your phone. Also there are no guarantees that your warranty will not be null and void. If you NEED your warranty, DO NOT root your phone. Use at your own risk!

First we will gather the items needed to complete this process.
Universal AndRoot Version 1.6.1 is the newest STABLE release. The newest version is 1.6.2 beta 5, which is where the updated list above comes from and is said to be very close to the final release version.
Next go to the Android Market and install AppInstaller (there are a few versions including appsInstaller by modmymobile, all are free)
While in the market, also grab ROM Manager (also free)
Next download the ROM you would like to use. I personally recommend CyanogenMod 6.0.0 DS - stable. This link will take you to the Cyanogen downloads section where you will have to select your phone and search for the ROM you want.
While you are there, also grab the Google Addon pack for your phone.
Of course it is up to you to choose a ROM you like. You can also keep your stock ROM if you choose.
Lets Begin!
Install the Universal AndRoot .apk file, the ROM you chose and the Google Addon to the root of your microSD card
Open AppInstaller and let it locate your AndRoot .apk on your microSD. Select it and install it to your phone.
Open Universal AndRoot from you app menu. It should read your phone and show your firmware version. Click the "Root" button and let it do it's thing. It really only takes a minute or 2. When finished it will let you know. Congratulations, at this point you are now rooted.
Now for a custom ROM!
Open ROM Manager. Install Recovery. The default recovery for ROM Manager is ClockworkMod Recovery (which is what I am using) but a lot of people seem to like RA Recovery. This option is at the bottom of ROM Manager under "Flash Alternate Recovery". Whichever you choose, let the Recovery flash.
Next choose "Backup Current ROM", then "Reboot Into Recovery" (for future reference, you can also get into recovery mode by turning your phone off, then hold down the "home" button hit the power button. continue hold home as it powers on.)
Chose "wipe data/factory reset" then "wipe cache partition". This step is important. I know from personal experience if you don't do this you may end up in a bootscreen loop!
Choose "install zip from sdcard". Navigate to the ROM you loaded on your microSD and flash it.
After the phone reboots (which can take a few minutes the first time after flashing a new firmware version) go back to ROM Manager and again choose "Reboot Into Recovery". Once in recovery, again choose "install zip from sdcard". Navigate to the Google Addon pack on your microSD and install it.
Once you are rooted and running your new ROM, go into ROM Manager and partition your sd card. This is optional.
That is it. You should be good to go! Way easier and faster than the old goldcard method!
This is my first XDA guide. I hope it is up to your standards!

when you try the root process or when you try to flash a rom?
i get the exclamation point screen when i try to boot into recovery mode the nandroid wiki mentions this screen and says to hit alt + L but i cant find which of the mytouch3g buttons they are talking about hxxp://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Howto:_Nandroid_Backup
any help is appreciated
being that the nandroid wiki page is talking about multiple phone models, i assume it is referring to those with a physical keyboard. i honestly don't have a clue what to do in that situation. never ran into it myself. hopefully someone here will have an answer for you.
The exclamation point means that the recovery didn't flash properly so your booting into the stock recovery. The step in CM wiki is probably for the G1 which has a physical keyboard. Try booting your phone normally and flashing the recovery again.
Notes about this guide: You will not be able to flash a new splash screen with this method. I would recommend not using the Clockwork recovery that's included with ROM manager. You need to also wipe Dalvik-cache before flashing your new ROM. Most newer recoveries will let you flash multiple zips at a time, so if your installing CM there's no need to reboot in between flashing the ROM and the Google adding.

@ ziggity and amon ra
Hi, pretty new here and this post was great. Thank you. I have finally rooted my 1.2 and was so easy thanks to this post. I also though, got exclamation point. I think it has to do with the part in the directions when it comes to flashing the recovery. Here is what worked for me, maybe helpful to someone else.....
-If you want, or are trying to flash, the Amon Ra recovery instead of using ROM Manager"s default (ClockworkMod), go ahead and put the recovery file on the root of your sd card.
This is where I got confused because when I went to bottom for flash alternate recovery, it was grayed out and said there were none available (though I know for sure it was on that card!). So I tried the one that said boot in to recovery for manual management and that is when I got the exclamation point. I just took out the battery and then put it back in so it would reboot normally instead of being stuck at that point.
-Go ahead and flash the ClockworkMod Recovery from within ROM Manager. It will then reboot for a while and come back up. When you go back into ROM Manager this time, the option will be there under alternate recovery to flash your Amon Ra file on your sd card. You can go ahead and flash it from right there.
-I think you also need to know that once you flash the recovery from ClockworkMod to Amon Ra, you lose the function/capability of ROM Manager. You can flash it right back though from here also, if you decide to. It seems to be a lot easier at first for the noob and/or less tech savvy to use the Rom Manager to cover the basics, simply because Amon Ra recovery is just so incredibly feature rich.
Anyway, I hope this helps and please be kind, this is my first post!

So let me get this straight... If I want root access but I want to stay on my stock firmware, I can just stop after I click unroot? At this point here, can I simply install SetCPU, leave everything else alone, and go on my merry way?
I've been switching roms around for the past two weeks and haven't found anything stable enough to float my boat that doesn't also involve problems with Pandora and/or Navi.
This might be the perfect solution!

What should i do? Thanx in advance
Are you using the three button combo? If so and its still not working, try downloading quickboot from the market.

I can't turn on my phone thats the problem... I tried the magic combo without luck... I had busybox installed. Maybe the problem was because i didnt have cwm properly installed. I renamed cwm installation folder to update.zip and that run it from 2e recovery. After that i can access cwm but need to repeat the procedure every time.
Finally i succeeded with Odin to solve my problem. Now im on stock rom again. the problem is, the AOSPish JK2 rom doesn't install busybox properly. You'll have to reinstall AOSPish jk2, then before rebooting, install busybox from the market. then it'll work. (the EXACT method has been described in the AOSPish jk2 thread many time, but hasn't been updated in the op)
I know for the busybox process i did that but something went wrong obviously. I repeated the process and for now everything is ok recovery is working. Thanx for help guys i appreciate that

Need help flashing CM ROM

I'm having trouble with my samsung vibrant (galaxy S) I want to flash CM on it. I have root access, Clockwork Mod recovery, and ROM Manager. I go in to ROM manager and select flash ROM from SD card, I select the CM ROM which I downloaded but it gives an error "Status 7" when trying to install, and will not flash the new ROM. Any help with this would be appreciated.
ok first go into clockwork recovery on rom manager and pick flash clockwork recovery and pick vibrantmtd then pick 3x NOT 2X! Then go to download rom and choose cm7 nightlie 8 or under as above have many probs. On ur nightlie choose all three! wipe data, wipe dalvik and backup rom. On ur second nightlie u just have to wipe dalvik and backup rom.
Thanks for the help. I tried that with a slight variation. I had to manually put the ROM on the root of the SD card and named it update.zip. I flashed clockwork recovery and selected 3.x as you said. I selected all 3 options for backup and wipe. Once in recovery I select "Reinstall packages" and it finds update.zip but aborts installation with "Status 7"
Ur doing it wrong. Update package is for only rooting ur phone.

the phone is rooted. Is there an easy way for me to double check that? Maybe I'm confusing two processes, but I do have the ROM on the SD card. Am I trying to apply it incorrectly? When I'm in recovery my only options are:
Reboot system now
reinstall packages
delete all user data
delete cache data
format internal SD-card
I'm used to see other option such as on my MT4G which has "install zip from SD card" That is what I typically use to flash a new rom.
Sorry if I'm missing something, but I do appreciate the help
I've been messing with it all night. I wound up doing the ODIN to JFD to get myself back to 2.1. I installed rom manager again, and it appears that when I tell it to flash clockwork mod and then reboot in to recovery I am actually going to stock recovery. I think the options that I listed earlier are for stock recovery as well. I think the main thing I'm missing is the "Install ZIP from SD Card" option in recovery. I guess at this point I'm unsure if I'm rooted, and don't know how to get the correct recovery so I can flash the ROM I'd like.
If ur recovery is blue then u need reinstall packages twice then u will be rooted, then it will turn green. Then go into rom manager and flash clock work recovery. Then put ur rom on internal sd and ur ready to flash. Enjoy
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Ok, so we can narrow things down a bit. My recovery is blue. I've downloaded the update.zip that I found from "NOOB Root guide" here on XDA, but no matter how many times I reinstall packages recovery never turns green.
I've also tried the one click root method which does the same thing as above but it just automates things a bit. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739300)
Bump.
Many thanks to movieaddict who has helped so far, but it appears that I don't have root access, and the typical steps found in this thread are not working for me. Any other ideas?
ok is ur phone hardware locked?? by checking by doing this do the 3 button combo to get into download mode. First power off ur phone then plug in ur usb cable to phone and into pc then hold down the up volume and down volume and THEN hold down the power button and let go after a few sec u should see download mode.. If it goes into download mode then ur phone is not hardware lcked and we can go from there if it is hardware locked? then follow this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801722
if it isnt hardware locked then make sure update package file isnt corrrupted and make sure u put it on ur internal sd card. Make sure the update package is 632 kb sometimes when downloading stuff happens.
im gonna tell u how i do root and flash! First odin back to eclair must easier to root then. Second put the update package on ur internal sd card and dont unrar it leave it as is. Then turn off ur phone and hold down the up volume and the down volume and THEN the power button and as when u SEE THE vibrant logo let go of power button. Ur recovery will be blue then select reinstall package and select yes, it will then go through stuff and come back to recovery blue then do it again and it will turn green. Once its green then select the rom u want to flash and ur ready to go.
Thanks again. From your instructions I can tell that the phone is hardware UNlocked. I've previously gotten in to download mode. also, I see some differences in how you describe the root process. The update.zip is 633kb, I'll try to redownload it again... also, when I hit reinstall packages I am not prompted with yes/no, it just does it. It is a very quick process, and then it auto reboots the phone, but you said it should bring me back to recovery. I'm not sure why that would be happening
I'll mess around with this some more tonight. Hopefully I can nail this down. Sorry to be a PITA.
yah it should bring u back to green recovery after doing it twice! Yah that was my bad it asks u yes or no when flashing...lol!
Sent u pm!!!
Try Superoneclick root! That always works for me. When u reinstall packages and it reboots, clockwork usually has NOT been installed, I always Odin then install Tom Manager, flash Clockwork, then its off to the races!

I've been going over the suggestions all night. I feel like I'm following the instructions... not that they are even that difficult. I get the update.zip on my sd card, I boot in to stock recovery (blue) I reinstall packages, the phone reboots in to normal boot mode, I reboot in to recovery and reinstall packages again. I repeat this process multiple times hoping that one of these times I'm going to see a green recovery. I know it's all smooth sailing from there. I even recorded a short clip of me doing this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPreHj16UEU
Is it possible that i've tried so many different way of doing this that I have the phone in a weird state, and now these guides aren't working due to those previous attempts? I tried super1click... wound up getting an error "Getting mount path" ... "failed"
A simple way to check for root would be to download Terminal Emulator from the market and type in "su" without the quotations. If you get $ or permission denied you are not rooted. If you get a super user prompt followed by a # you should have root. Also which rom are you on now? If you are on stock Kb5 the recovery could be giving you some issues trying to flash the CWM recovery or at least for me it did. I suggest using ODIN to go back to JFD, then using super one click root (make sure your screen is set to not go off for the 10 or 30 minute time frame) I suggest this because I have had the "failure to mount" issues many times and it only seems to happen if my phone screen goes off while attempting the root. Once super one click completes, reboot your phone, install Rom manager, then reboot into recovery. You will have to select re install packages from there. The clockwork screen will be green as a few others have stated. I have attached an image below of clockwork, mine is orange since it's cm7 but yours will look similar, but green. From here just choose install from zip sd card, choose zip and flash away. Best of luck to you!
https://picasaweb.google.com/117659...?authkey=Gv1sRgCMbSsp7F4ZHWfg&feat=directlink
Is there something that removes the root access when you reboot the phone? I flashed the recovery for Galaxy S Vibrant (NOT Vibrant MTD) and was able to get to CWR (green), but sometimes when I go in to recovery it is back to blue... if I reinstall packages it takes me to green. Along those same lines I notice SU keeps asking me if the same application can have SuperUser permissions, so it seems like something is not sticking.
are you on 2.1 or 2.2? if you'r on 2.2 and use the update.zip it wont work you have to use superoneclick root ,happened to me too.
Thanks for responding. The phone was on 2.1 because I used ODIN to go back to JFD.
I've since sold the phone (didn't care for it much) and gotten a G2X (which I'm also not wild about). Thanks for all the help everyone!

Help choosing ROM Orange San Francisco

Hi all, i bought Orange San Francisco few weeks ago, and now i am on stock ROM by Orange. (2.1 Enclair)
I wanted to ask other users what ROMs are recommended , and should i go for Froyo or Gingerbread?
My phone is Gen.1 and TFT screeen.
And also is Blade faster with custom ROM?
My two main reasons i wanna try custom rom are:
1. Moving apps to SD
2. Flash support
This is my first smartphone and i have never flashed a ROM before on phone, but i have read a lot about it and i think i understand WAY more than before.
Today i rooted my San Francisco, and i have
recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.8-blade-gen1 and RecoveryManager_v0.37b on my PC ... will copy them to SD using USB cabel.
But i need to know what ROM works good without bugs...
Any help is welcome , thx in advance
You should see a good speed improvement using a custom rom over the Eclair stock rom. I would go for one of the Gingerbread roms as they are the most up-to-date, and most seem pretty good for everyday use. Personally I use CyanogenMod7, but everyone has their own preference.
To install most of the gingerbread roms, you'll need to convert your phone to Gen 2. You can do that by following the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258855
That will convert your phone to Gen 2 and install Clockwork in one go. After you've done that, you can install your chosen rom. Put the rom on your sdcard before you do the TPT so its ready to go. Once the TPT is finished, it will boot into Clockwork. From there you just navigate to "install zip from sdcard" using the vol+/vol- keys and use "home" to select, "back" to go back. Then pick "choose zip from sdcard" and navigate to the rom zip you put on earlier. Once its done, you just reboot your phone, and thats you. If you decide to go for Cyanogen, remember you also need to install the google apps (gapps) zip as well.
Ideally you need to change to gen 2 this can be found in this forum, this will allow you to install most new roms such as cyanogen mod 7.1.0, it's a good Rom to use.

Ginger stir fry is pretty fast and close to stock but recently stopped development I believe.
However CM7 is more advanced and offers more options and tools.
Both are running on the latest android kernel and offer android 2.3.7.
CM7 uses the ADW Launcher, GSF uses the stock launcher. Both are nice, just a matter of preference, although ADW offers more options.
If you fancy froyo more (android 2.2) there's a rom around, can't recall the name right now, check the zte blade rom forum.
CM7 runs quite fast and stable if you turn the setting down a notch (no animations, 16bit transparecy and some more in the adwlauncher).
There's a lot of support for the ZTE blade, here and on MoDaCo, but the key is trying a few things out.
Installing a new rom is childsplay so test a few out for a week or so to find one of your liking.
Don't forget to install the google apps package along with the rom (contains the market, gmail, goggles, etc.) and you can make a backupp of your apps with Titanium Backup, spares you a fresh download and install

You just need an app that can check md5sum files, there are lots of others, I haven't tested them all. I didn't realise AFV isn't available in some countries.
Either that or you just need to open android terminal, or adb shell & type
Code:
md5sum -c /sdcard/image/nandroid.md5
I used MD5 Checker to check md5 of:
CM7.1 Version (Upgrades from Gen1 to Gen2 & installs CyanogenMod 7.1 - all in one) and number in guide matched number i got in MD5 Checker.
But reading the flash guide it says i have to :
(long press on nandroid.md5 file, then Verify Nandroid Backup)
I dont have that option: Verify Nandroid Backup.
Also i try without doing that part, i just copied CM7.1 Version (Upgrades from Gen1 to Gen2 & installs CyanogenMod 7.1), unzipped it and pressing volume + and menu button while power up, but my phone froze on green Android robot logo...
I just unplugged battery and it works normal again.

The Verify Nandroid Backup option is what its called in AFV. Other apps may not have that option or it may be called something different.
When you say it works normally again do you mean the TPT worked, or its just back the way it was? If its just back the way it was and the TPT did nothing, was the image folder on the root of your sdcard? Did you hold the menu and vol+ buttons and then press the power button, continuing to hold them for a few seconds?
If you did all of this and it hasn't changed anything, try with another sdcard if you have one. Some just don't seem to work for whatever reason.
back the way it was and the TPT did nothing...
But i was first holding power button, and then holding vol+ and menu buttons with power button.
I see that in same guide one person had same problem (stopped @ green Android logo).
I didnt put it in any folder just on SD card and unzipped, then Image folder was created with other sub-folders.

Sounds like you unzipped it ok, try it again holding menu and volume+ and then press power.

Download gen1 to gen2 (there is a download link in this section) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258855
Unzip the file and place the image ( the image is called image, not gen1 to gen2) on the root of your sd card (ideally it is best to do this on a pc)
Also download and place the Rom you wish to use on the root of your SD card (cyanogenMod 7.1.0 stable release works well) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297776
DO NOT UNZIP THE ROM at this stage.
Put the SD card back into the phone.
Power off the phone, hold menu & vol + (up) & power at the same time, you should see some green writing, wait until it is finished (well done your phone is now gen2)
You should now arrive at the clockwork recovery screen, if not power off the phone, then hold vol - (down) and power (together), clockwork will boot.
Now using clockwork recovery, clear data/factory reset, then install your rom from the zip, that is all there is to it, obviously you'll have to enter your login details to use the market and sync your contacts etc, but your phone should now be working.
Don't forget to make a nandroid backup.
Goodluck

That thread is really out of date though, the first post was last updated 3 months ago. The roms that those TPTs would install are much older than the current ones, and the partition sizes will be too small in some cases too. Much better to use the other TPT thread that's already been linked.
Ginger Stir fry is the best I have used simply because it is super fast and pretty close to the stock 2.3, as for flash I just downloaded a arm v6 last night and it works pretty well. cant link but if you search reddit for
"flash 10.3 for ARMv6"
There should be a thread.

you should go for GB
my favorite used to be GSF, based on ZTE beta 2.3.4 ROM
now I use Elite Blade, based on ZTE official 2.3.5 ROM
Here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310050
good luck!
Vote for Cyanogenmod. Newest Android version, 2.3.7. I think it's pretty stable today. Why I think it's better than any other rom, is because it has so much features. Plus theming! Android looks ugly without themes, as you may have noticed!

I agree, CM is good. I only avoid CM because I want the ZTE dialler, where Google contact groups can be displayed in a separate tab.

You are not able to enter CMW because you flashed a stock rom. When you flash stock rom you will lose the CWM recovery. To fix this install rom.manager and root your phone again because you have lost your root and recovery this will fix your problem

First root your device using an app z4root. Get it from your pc and transfer and install using filer. Go for a permanent root. Next, like said above, flash Clockworkmod using the Rom manager app. Download it to your system and copy it over to the sd card and install using filer again. Flash lateat Clockworkmod in Rom manager. After that,to enter clockworkmod, power off your phone and boot with power and vol- pressed. Since you're already Gen2,flash ONLY gen2 roms such as Cyanogenmod or gingerstirfry or swedish snow. And remember before flashing these files,do a Wipe data/factory reset in clockworkmod.

as i mentioned that my phone is not loading anything. as soon as my phone starts it shows me lock screen and as i unlock my phone screen it Force close my phone saying process system and process.com.google.gapps not responding.
and then my phone automatically reboot.
as dell also does not provide apk installation thorough any pc connect software so i can only transfer my apk files through phone Sd card but can not install any apk as my phone does not loading any application. so i can install rom manager and root phone. if any other way to install and root my phone pls tell.

to root your phone all you need to do is have usb debugging enabled on your phone and download an application from your pc super one click all you have to do is connect your phone via the cable to the pc and click on the root button. This will root your phone from your pc directly.
Once you have root on your phone download rom manager nd install the latest CWM recovery and flash a rom of your choice best not to use stock roms because you will lose root and CWM recovery again
Solved: Thanks Cyanogenmod
I Visited Cyanogenmod For Zte Blade and follow instructions
first install clockwork recovery through fastboot option and then install 7.0.1 version for blade and then i have 2.3.5 android install.
thanks for all who replied and special thanks for Cyanogenmod and XDA developers to make life easy.
Thanks n best regds

its nice to see you solved the problem mate. As a side note i would recommend staying away from stock roms because once you install a stock rom you will lose root and clockwork mod recovery. Using a custom rom will not delete your root and recovery.
thanks

Ok i will if i need any help. Also is it a good idea/ any possibility for this website owner to start a new feature among members to add them as friend just like Facebook. so that it is easier to connect each other as this website also have so many users so if you are not a regular visitor then it is very hard to remember each members id to pm then.
it is just a idea/request only.

Hi
This is called clockworkmod recovery. It's used to flash (install) ROMs, tweaks, mods and Google Apps
Download any ICS GApps package (it'll usually be in the same thread you downloaded the ROM from)
Then place this GApps zip in your SD card. In recovery mode, select install zip from SD card, and then choose the zip you just downloaded
