Dudes,
I've been running Android on HD2 for a few weeks now and it's great so far - it's basically like a Desire HD for half the price. But I've been having a problem in regards to keeping the Sense UI running smooth after a few days, no matter what build I try (this is why I'm posting in general)
I've tried Imilka's Desire Z, Rafdroid HD 4.0.2, Rafdroid HD Light 3.2 SQ and CMYLXGO Light. So far, CMYLXGO seems like it's the smoothest, but I'm still experiencing significant slow down and jerkiness of the Sense UI after a few days.
Are there any maintenance routines or tweaks I can try to keep Sense running smooth?
I'm sure there's something in regards to
-cache cleaning
-ram cleanup
-reboot routines etc
that I could try, but I'm not sure where to start, and I'm kinda iffy about using a task killer
Any ideas would be great, especially if we can make this a resource thread for people with the same question
thanks,
zuka
Less apps installed
Less memory usage for micro sd
Keep the internal memory little used. Like eight hundred or more megabytes free
Just my two cents
That's a good idea in theory, but I've got an EU HD2 with 512mb of internal memory. With CMYLXGO Light installed and every possible app moved to the SD card, I have 20 megs of free internal storage.
Would creating an EXT3 partition on my SD card have any effect in speeding up the phone by allowing it to use it for internal memory, or does that not work in every rom? (Derp: Just checked and Cmylxgo DHD doesn't support data2ext. Sorry)
Well just to point out. Desire hd and z roms aren't really smooth. Unless there has been a significant improvement from the last time I tried, which was 3 weeks ago, yeah. So yeah, just pointing out that you can't ask for it to be something it isn't.
My point is that on first install, and even after installing all apps, the build is significantly smoother than it becomes over the next few days. I suspect there's some kind of way to clear out caches etc to make it run at a stable speed over time, so i'm just checking if anybody has any tips
As the sense version number increments it get more bloated and eats up more space and memory.
What I recommend is desire/bravo ( not desire hd or z ). It's an older version of sense that has some advantages in my oppinion:
- no htc hub, htc likes, htc crap
- timestamp on picture
- occupies less space
- runs faster.
- the battery is ok
So, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992430
The desirez and dhd builds are not smooth in general.
I use Skinks Clean Desire and ist very smooth. Only disadvantage is that it hasn't the new sense 2.1 features.
The nest best things to hope for are the new roms coming now. With Gingerbread and sense 2.1 based of the desire s or incredible s.
For now i can recommend Imilkas Vivo build. Almost everything is working.

Hi,
I have a problem with a standard browser. Every time I switch from a browser somewhere else (eg SMS app), so every time loaded opened page is loaded again. Which is a problem if secure (internet banking) site. Is this problem solvable?
Its the lack of memory. Sense 3.0 uses most of the memory, leaving very little for program usage. So every time you go from browser to another app, the browser gets dumped from memory, and needs to restart the next time you go back to the browser. There may be some ways to get back some memory, but I'm not sure you'll get back enough. One thing you might try is to use a more lightweight launcher besides the stock Sense one, such as Launcher Pro, Go Launcher, or ADW. But you will lose your Sense widgets. Otherwise, if its really an issue, you may need to use a ROM that is not Sense 3.0 based.
Hi,
Thanks for reply. I use LauncherPRO since my first android phone. And in sense proces manager displayed about 22M ram. Unity is great ROM, but i think is better without sense garbage. And yes, i known RMK's politics about his ROM relases.
And here two things what is keep Sense ROM in my phone - camera and lovely Sense 3 lockscreen. Maybe i will try Vision, but i loss Sense 3 camera :/.
Anyway it's look like there no solution for low mem .
( sorry for my english )

Try flashing this script: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111145 (wipe cache and dalvik prior).
I use it for this exact reason, it keeps the browser in memory so when you switch to another app and back its right there and doesn't have to reload the page again. Let me know if it helps, i found for most roms there is a noticeable speed improvement as well.
I think about this script. I will try it on future.
Now i flashed Virtuous 2.0 and flashed Sense 3.0 lockscreen and camera. Everything seems work for me now.. And about 160M RAM free...
Anyway, ill do it some test with this "hybrid".

Where did you find a camera apk that works with virtuous 2.0
Do Androids dream of electric sheep?
You is my inspiration to try flash some Sense 3.0 things into Sense 2.0 ROM.
I followed yours signature URL http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15751184&postcount=165 and use Camera apk from followed link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062962.
Video recording works only with 14mbps max ( read it in another post, for higher rate is needed another kernel maybe? )

Morning,
after few hours running, few app used later it is same situation here. About 86M RAM free and tab in browser reloading.
Now i try Juwe11's script with Uninon. And after ill try it with Vision Sense 2.0 because it's faster and everything what i liked on Sense 3, have it.
EDIT: On Vision Sense 2 with some Sense 3 stuff, have about 80M RAM free and so far no tab reloading.

Is that no tab-reloading with or without the script?
With script. But only on Vision 2. On Unity have reloading tab almost imediantely after reset / power on. But RMK have some his improvements, so i commented his values.

Flashing them is fine but they never run properly on my phone, they always lag or freeze or restart really often. Any other roms besides sense, run perfectly such as the HyperDroid. Can anyone enlighten me on why this happens?
Well i can recommend HD2 CoreDroid HD V1.7 FROYO i have been using this ROM for a couple of months now very stable very fast great if you need your phone on a daily basis.
I have a EU device and this ROM has 1Gb internal Storage plus SD card capacity for applications and around 140mb free ram, It's not the most up to date but it's stable and all working
I run sat-nav parrot bluetooth plus many other apps all working great

Well I don't know about the freezes and restarts, but lag and Sense go hand in hand unfortunately UI is great but any GB/Sense ROM is just slow, and Froyo/Sense (like the suggested one) is speedy but outdated. If I were you I would stick to CM7, it can be themed very well to look like Sense

I do not agree! I am running RCMix3D v5.1 and marc1706's v0.1.8 Kernel and it is very very smooth! It just works. I would recommend you to try this combination.

This sounds like an sd card issue to me...
The sense roms are heavy, the runny roms use sd-ext for extra memory...
Where you using an sd-ext partition for example ext3 or ext4 ?
If you where that would be the sd card causing an issue as a result, are you formating through sdformater tool?
Try another sd card if you can and give it a spin,
Good luck!

Try a larger partition than the one mentioned in their threads. It could be some bad blocks that are preventing some components from being installed, which may cause some lags, freezes or reboots.

Did you try the larger partition size? Also, you can try MIUI if you want the quick settings to be in a separate tab, although using the built in notification toggles in CM7 is enough for me. You can add loads if you want, in Cyanogenmod settings.
I've been having the same issues. I've found a 2.2 android with 2.1 sense, can't remember name, that worked really well, but needed different apps for my emails so I've been experimenting with tosty's v7 ics and its been nice. Try searching for a sense from with the specs I wrote.

Hi guys ... I'm currently using Virtuous Affinity, and I've found it to be very slow and buggy, and I really want to switch to some other ROM .. Before Virtuous Affinity, I was using Virtuous Unity, which I found to be much better ..
So right now I need suggestions for a Desire Z compatible ROM, which is based on HTC Sense 3.5 or higher ... Or at the very least, it should be Sense 3.0 or higher ..

Every 3.5 sense rom i've tried so far get laggy and buggy after time. I'm now using ICS mexdroid rom and this is really really really the fastest experienxe so far for me personally.
Try the energy series.
Virtuous Affinity 2.05.0 was a fantastic ROM to use after i debloated it and supercharged it. I used it for about 2 weeks with the HTC Amaze cam mod and that was by far one of my favorite Sense ROMs. I normally stick to AOSP ROMs though because Sense 3.5 is just not meant for our phones. That's the reason why we didn't get an update to Sense 3.* and that's also the reason why our phones won't get an update to ICS, because our phones won't be able to handle Sense 3.6 either.
just try android revolution. one of the best roms ever
I tried revolution, same laggy issues after some time. Even if you reboot every day. Pick an ics rom, they are working very very well.

jup, andromadus beta 3 is the best rom ever
ARHD 7.0.4:
i suggest you: unistall via titanium all unused apps/widgets (personaly i have only the calendar and the weather widgets) then you need swap,v6 supercharger,sd boost. enable swap, set sd cache to 8192, run supercharger(my opinion option13 for rosie and 6 for memory)
bulletproof the com.android.mms. cpu sleep 245 conv. wake 1.2+ ondemand.
you will have all time 100+ mb free not loosing you message(i rec to have the ghostly), playable, smooth. always you will have lag or freezes is a sense 3.5 rom in a 512 rem device. is the best that you can do. i have tried everything.
edit:BUT ALWAYS YOU WILL HAVE THE CAMERA FLASH BAG (flash doesnt open in the same time when the camera captures a picture so the image is black) this is the reason i let the 3.x roms. you cant fix it even install the amaze mod camera even a 3rd party app or different kernel...
Okay to cover this one more time:
Sense 3 and 3.5 roms are not ever going to work well on the G2 series. Dead Stop. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.
The G2 series does not have sufficient system horsepower to properly run a Sense rom of this series. You want Sense UI and G2 in the same package? Great. Run Virtuous Sense 2. It is based on the DZ firmware and is very stable.
Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

You could keep a backup of a couple different roms on your sd card. That's what I do. Primadonna might not have a working camera, but audacity does.it only takes a few short minutes to switch between roms.

Hey guys,
today I spent all day reading about Android ROMs, but I'm going more and more confused. I'm using EU HD2 and have not enough space for application updates etc. For this reason I want to move some apps (navigation, games) on SD card. Can somebody advice me good, tiny and stable ROM? Great benefit would be ROM working in landscape mode, because I want to use my phone in my car in landscape. ROMs that I like are :
myMIUI 14 B6 [MAGLDR/CLK║Dorimanx║GB║APP2SD║CACHE2DATA║ZIPALIGN]
[MAGLDR/cLK]TyphooN CyanogenMod 7.2.0.1 v3.8.8[2.3.7][A2SD+][tytung r14]
PARANOIDANDROID HD2 v1.5b [TABLET/HYBRID][CM9][A2SD][tytung_HWA_r3.2]
[AROMA ROM] Leo King 2.3.6 ICS 4.0.4_CM9_Rc2_Bulletproof!
[ICS] [4.0.4] [STABLE] CyanogenMod 9 RC 2 [securecrt_tytung_HWA]
AndroPlus Ultimate |High Quality|Fast|Smooth|GB 2.3.3|Sense 2.1+3.0+3.5+4.0
NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.5 (Kernel: tytung_HWA_r3.2
BTW good working camera is very appreciated.
Reading is not enough, you have to try them to decide which is better.
Most of these roms are already stable, and most of them are tiny (150-200).
For the best camera, I recommend gingerbread. what do you mean by "landscape" ? all roms have rotation, don't they?
Having a EU HD2 means you probably won't be able to use a ROM without an a2sdd script, or at least moving apps to the sd card, so I propose using an a2sd script when installing any ROM.

By "landscape" I mean rotation of main screen, phone dialer, weather or music widget for example instead of navigation or other stand alone applications only.

With an EU HD2 I would stay away from sense roms because of size. Tytung's roms have always been really good for me but I'm with everyone else, try some and see what suits your taste. I'm using huhjun's [ICS-ROM] iCyanogen 1.2 [Fast-Stable-Bravia-Xloud][tytung_HWA_r3.4] and love it.
Reading is not enough, you have to try them to
Most roms are already stable, and most of them are tiny (150-200)
but it all depends on what you want ie sense or no sense if you want a lite rom take the rom you like and delete apps from it to make it lite "ie all the aps you can get from market " then you can move them to sd card tbh i use a lite rom but the lowest ive managed to get it to is 150mb .(on phone)
why not download a rom and experiment with it theres a lot you can delete from them /apps to language boot loader gifs ringtones
download and install 7zip its a lot easy'r to delete things you can extract the rom from the zip to see what size it will come out at
I can say for myself only. By my opinion, AOKP has best combination of settings and tweaks which really make life easier. Battery life and speed of this rom are very very good. But unfortunately this rom was not very stable for me, I experienced hot reboots regularly.
So I switched back to NexusHD2. It has comparable battery life and speed, but less tweaking possibilities. Stability of this rom has always been out of question for me. It is solid rock.
TyphooN CyanogenMod ROM was my first rom on HD2 and I have only positive impressions of it. Switched to ICS just because this phone let me do that. Prefer newer versions when possible.
Hyperdroid GBX is a 50 - 60mb file and takes just 92mb of system. If your priority is to save memory that would be the best option.

I think you should try the paranoid rom. Shoukd
After install you have around the 230 mb free, and it was not neccesary for me to use an a2sd script, and god, the rom is soooo stable
