PDF files under "Documents"? - Kindle Fire General

Is it supposed to show up? Because they're not.
Quite annoying I have to open up Adobe PDF Reader, and search under there instead of just clicking from the Documents section. I mean PDF is supported, according to the Kindle Fire user guide.

I don't know if PDF files are supposed to be under documents. Why don't you move them there your self using ES File Explorer or Astro File Manager?

I did. It's in the documents folder, and not showing. Was wondering if I was doing something wrong.

Might be a formatting issue on the PDF?
I put a few on the wifes totally stock and mine rooted with ADW EX and both have the pdfs under documents.

I don't think the Documents folder is where you should put your files because I went in that folder and I didn't see my Kindle Fire User Guide. All I saw were 2 files named Thank You Letter. And I have not touched the Documents folder since I got my Kindle.

The only way I have been able to get PDFs to show up in the "docs" area is to email them to my [email protected]. They eventually show up.

Yeah, currently if you port them via USB they should be in gallery.
I thought I saw something about it being related to the Metadata of the file, but can't find the link atm.
Well now that I've found it this is about ebooks going to docs rather than books. Guess it's possible that this is an issue here too. But emailing them seems easiest.

How do you access your Kindle email?
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium

You should just be able to hit sync and it should download your pending docs. You may have to fully power down and restart for it to work. I don't think there is a way to "access" that email as it just sends it directly to your Kindle.

Wallpaper location?

I was having trouble finding decent (HD) or there abouts wallpapers for the d2. Im about to sbf and cant seem to locate my current wallpaper again on the web, when I got it, I just long touched on the screen and chose save as wallpaper. Trying to backup all my stuff and for the life of me I cant find this dang file on my phone/sd card. Anyone know where its located? Thanks.

I'm curious where/how the wallpapers are stored as well. Just for kicks, I went to Google Images, searched dragon, and pressed and held a file named red-dragon.jpg, then selected Set as Wallpaper. Using Root Explorer, I went through every folder on my phone, excluding the ~/sdcard, searching for "red-dragon," ".jpg," and "dragon.jpg." None of which gave me any results.
So, sorry to say, but I think the D2 really likes to hide your wallpaper. :/
Did you know that you can actually google how to boil water? In any case, google is your best friend. Rarely picky and almost never down...anyways, back to topic:
I recommend googling: current wallpaper location android. The first hit helped me a little bit into it. It seems there is this folder called data that you can only access once you rooted your device. Since Im in no need to do so and myself new to android I leave you to do whatever you want with this information.
Im also sure that you will need a root file explorer...only guesses though.

Maybe you were too busy being smug to read my post, so I'll just give you the tl:dr version.
I searched through the entire /data folder with Root Explorer for ".jpg" and found nothing when I was using a "red-dragon.jpg" as my background.
Thanks for your mastery of searching on Google though.
I am not rooted but whenever I save wallpapers from the internet on my phone they end up in a folder titled downloads..that shows up in my gallery and when I look at mt sd card..check to cee if you have a folder titled that as well

I think the system puts things like that in a database file. I have my walpaper of a picture I took but it is no where on the phone. It is defined in an xml file but where actually stored i think it is in a DB file. Sorry I can not make the "thumb keyboard" do commas.

I'm going to investigate this hunch further. I'll search the /system folder for all .xml files or database files. I can't say I'm an expert on the matter though, so... No promises on results.

I don't know if you are still looking for this, but if others stumble on this like I did, here's the answer. in the /data/data/com.android.settings/files/ folder there is a file called wallpaper (no extensions). it is actually a jpg file (if you copy it somewhere else and add a .jpg at the end you'll be able to see it)
@tsachi Here is my question: I would like all these lovely wallpapers I downloaded to show up in the dialog when I press Menu...wallpaper then hit the wallpaper button. The same default papers are always there and I would like to move my downloaded wallpapers to where ever that is.

Thanks tsachi. I was able to confirm this. I couldn't see the contents of /data with ES File Explorer, but I was able to do this through adb:
Code:
su
cd /data/data/com.android.settings/files/
cp wallpaper /mnt/sdcard/Pictures/wallpaper/wallpaper.jpg
exit
exit
Then I was able to look at it in any image viewer.
Not directly related, but I used adbWireless so that I wouldn't need to connect the usb cable and I'm using MultiPicture Live Wallpaper as my wallpaper switcher.

Hey there,
I wanted to set my Wallpaper manually to avoid cropping when choosing a file in the gallery.
On my Nexus 10 running Android 4.2.1 the wallpaper is found at:
"/data/system/users/0/wallpaper"
The file has no ending but is a jpg file (as sad by others).
If you want to exchange the file with yours remember to set the right permissions.
I dont know exactly how they have to be, but if you give all users at least read access it should work.
After a reboot the new Wallpaper should be set.
My wallpaper now has a resolution of 3966x2560 and there are no black bars anywhere. The system seem so crop it on the fly.
Confirmed on JB 4.2, the location is
/data/system/users/0/wallpaper
Copy wallaper to somewhere else and change its extension to wallpaper.jpg and you are done.

Where to place epub files in Nook App?

Where do you place epub files so that the nook app will detect it?
I place mine on my uSD. Makes it easy to locate and use. Have not tried the Nook App as I find Aldiko more to my liking. Have read the Nook App "loses" files. Not sure if that's replicated.

Put them in the same place the app is storing the Nook books. If you don't have any yet, download a free book or free preview so you can see where it ends up.

That is if that is where her's are stored. I set mine up so everything was installed on the eMMC because I was having issues with the app trying to read large books off the card.
I use the app Overdrive for epub books. Great app and it works flawlessly.
Just my 2 pennies.
Actually, I placed the books on both the uSD ad eMMC, same.directories. Nook app still doesn't detect it. Ill be trying aldiko.

When you opened the nook app did you select my files instead of books? For some reason this is where the side loaded epubs will appear.

Mine would only read epubs from the sdcard so I suggested that directory as the most likely spot for success.

Cool Reader is an excellent app 2 read epubs (and plenty of other formats for that matter). It also will pull and detect any book stored. You can even pull them from your emmc( w/o using root explorer to move them to sd).. I like it better than adilko. Only downfall is it supports everything other than PDF.oh..u can bookmark any page, and it formats any book beautifully to your liking in settings.
On my NC, Nook App won't work if there is no external uSD plugged in.
Just simple can't read anything from eMMC (or I don't know how to set it to look through other folders)

Uninstall the app, delete any folders it may have created, then go into the CM settings for applications and change the location apps are installed from automatic to internal. Reboot and reinstall the app. Then you can change the settings back and the app will now stay on the internal memory as will all B&N downloaded books, papers, etc.

I'm not 100% but 99% pretty sure that I had done that setup for my NC when I first installed the CM7 onto eMMC. I haven't checked back for long time.
I'll take a look at it and re-install the app and see what happens.
Thanks m8
Hope it works for you. I could not open any books other than small previews and periodicals until I did that.
I JUST (I mean literally an hour ago) rooted my nook color to cm7 and I too am wondering where to put my books! I have a bunch I didn't get from the bn store that are currently on my computer. I assume that the books I didn't buy with BN will be easy to transfer to Adilko, but how do you get books from your nook library into Adilko?

Gallery

Anyone have any idea how to keep Album and Ebook Covers from showing up in the gallery. Want it to be just my photos etc from cam and downloads but they all show up there in all different folders?
Find where those pictures are stored. Go in that folder and make a new folder call .nomedia
Thanks

I use a great little free app called quickpic which allows you to chose which folders are listed and it loads up large galleries nice and quick.

personally i find the default Gallery app pretty rubbish, it only refreshes content on a reboot for example.
i try and avoid using it as much as possible.

Yes, thats a nice little one.. I just loaded it and it has the exclude in it..
also allows you to backup to the root directry that the offending files are hanging out under..
i.e Books\nonfiction\files.. thus no need to do it individually..
it also works in well with the Picture framer I am using as a widget on one of my home screens..
where I have setup client files for previews.. now I think I just about got the perfect setup for it as a portable
casestudy showcase..so to recap on that..
ESfile explorer - to setup directory links as folders on a home screen
Picture framer to allow 4 large pictures on any one home screen - thus a quick tap takes you in to that themed directry
Quickpic - to run as the main viewer and slideshow engine..

[Q] Read pdf on rooted KF

Hi all,
My KF has been rooted and it has Go Launcher on it. However I can't open pdf file even it recognizes the file (the adobe acrobat icon next to the file name). Whenever I try to open the file, there's always a pop-up screen asking me to register to Amazon (I already created an account before but no matter how arduous I try, I'm not able to log in). Please advise

Well, If you do not want to take someones advice why ask for help?
only way you are going to use the kindles native reader is f you install all of the amazon system apps and have the core libraries functioning.... which can be done with careful mod work on cm7 but isnt worthwhile imho.

[Help] Docs Stopped Working

My documents are not opening on the "Amazon Launcher" anymore.
Once i touch the file on the grid, it "flashes" (indicating the "click/touch") but nothing happens.
Also, my Documents on the "sdcard" folder are not showing up on the "Device" tab, is there any specific folder i have to put them ?
I installed two apps "Quick Office" and "Office Suite", i dont know if it makes any difference but, who knows.
What can be happening?
Info : Rooted 6.3 Kindle Fire - No Custom Rom
Thanks in advance.
