Is it possible to use your android device as a Bluetooth dongle - Atrix 4G General

Did a question search and couldn't find anything. But essentially is it possible to your phone in this case my atrix. To essentially act as a bluetooth dongle for my laptop. In a short sighted act got my laptop without Bluetooth to save 20 bucks and now am regretting it to an extent.
Not sure it matters but i'm on CM7 currently thanks for any response

I don't believe this is possible, but you can get this one for less than $2.

I completely misread the post, I thought it said headset.
No, I know for a fact that as of right now this is not possible. Go to dealextreme, I purchased one from there. I have no problems with it.

Thanks for the replies and its at 2 bucks doesn't make a whole lot of incentive to make this work for a phone

Phone function, do we have it or not?

After reading a lot of threads i am quite confused with the "phone" issue as it is not clearly described anywhere.
Ok, i've understood that phone functionality is possible but...
Can we make calls?
Does it work well?
What issues do we have with making calls?
Is it fully working?

Yes, yes, none, yes.
Only problem is that you cannot use any headset.

Can we make calls in a phone-ish way (device to ear) or do we need to use speakerphone?
Forgive me if my questions sound stupid but i dont have a shift yet.
There is no internal speaker
WHen using the HTC Shift to make calls, you must always enable speakerphone (some roms do it automatically)
So there's no way of having a private conversation with your Shift,
unless you really are alone in the room, train, planet.
There were some people trying to get the earphone working, but since
GSM calling was released, nothing happened above the surface.
The headphone + mic is important as it completes GSM calling feature.
phoneless almost

Too bad would really to use it as a primary phone.
Where are we on headset connectivity?
Do we have any clue on how to implement it?

I was working on it, but then some kind of bounty bounced for doing this, so I gave up to leave the team of bounty hunters work for this.
Seriously, I might have some time for this in september.
Is that really a reason you stopped ? If so , I will put out a bounty to stop all other bounties... So I'll pay everyone off to let you do your magic

No, I just started a huge project for work that I'll finish in two weeks.
I can do it all!!!
Hey i could make calls, using a headset, and even using a bluetooth headset!!!
My Shift takes no more then 400mb ram and can even play back 720HD movies.
Music sounds great on it and the battery! well what can I say, the battery lasts for 9 hours on a single charge!!!!!
I am also using the SD card on the WM side and running Tomtom7!!!!
oh wait
then i woke up with a wet patch on my PJ's damn it was only a wet dream!!!!!!

Any news on this thaihugo? I'd slip a fiver into your paypal account if you got this working!
EDIT: Ok so bounty at the moment is:
vinokirk: £5
Josap: £5
-------
Total £10
Come on Thaihugo, imagine that £10 burning a hole in your paypal account!
word, same here
Josap, maybe you can change the title of this thread to:
'Headset phone function, do we have it or not? !!!Bounty now £10!!!'
or something!?
last time there was a bounty, I decided NOT to work on the subject
I would hate seeng someone grab it before me...
Seriously, I have no more time for this anymore, But if somebody makes a breakthrough, I can help.
Well in my case could donate you for the work you put in and promise i woulnt give it to someone else

Could you at least tell us how far you got?
Do you still have your Shift?
So let me get this right. At the moment we can:
a)Use the loudspeaker of the Shift to hear people, and
b)Use the mic to speak to people.
Basically its like a regular phone on loudspeaker, am I right? Can you plug in headphones and hear the person your speaking to and talk to them with the mic
And the ultimate goal would be to either:
a)get a wired 3.5mm earpiece+mic working,or
b)get a bluetooth headset+mic working
Now some questions:
1)Thaihugo when you said 'i might have some time for this in september', were you going to look at wired or Bluetooth headset conectivity? Where were you going to start looking?
2)Is the 3.5mm socket a plain 3.5mm socket that will just outputs sound or is it the special type that also allows the input of audio?
3)Is the 3.5mm socket useable for audio output on the WM side? i.e. if you listen to an mp3 thru WMP on the WM side, can you hook up some headphones and the sound will come out.
If you could have a look at my questions and answer them to the best of your knowlege that would be great! I havent got my Shift yet but I am serious about trying to improve it. The main thing for me is SD card access. I woud like to know as much info about that as possible, to find out where people have got with it.
The connector supports a mic/headset as it is also included. However it is only usable on Vista side for apps ie Skype.
SD access is unlikely but in the unlikely event that it would be possible we would most likeley get WiFi too since as it is a SDIO card.
As I said in another post, I still have the shift but no time for this. And also, I'm not part of the people who received more than 3000$ for this job. And no, I don't want any bounty, I'm just fed up to take the interim for a shift project that never delivered a think, and just complained when I released anything before their supposed "nearly ready" roms.
If you start a group of your own, and make signficant breaktrough, I will happily jump in it and help. But searching alone, for Saiweb or me, has it's limit. Cmonex is not a rom developer, she is more on the SPL radio side, pof seems to be off the shift forum. This product is aging. Try and think if you really want to involve in it's customisation.
I've posted some other post recently where I state that Shift team has delivered beyond expectation. Reading this, I'd say : Due to many efforts from many people , the Shift got functionality beyond expectations. Dunno who's who anymore.
The Shift deserves SD access and BT. Like BattleStar Galactica deserved a remake.

Yes I am sure i want to start developing for the Shift! Imagine if I and other said the same thing you did about old cars, take my dads 1949 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, if we had said that about them then there woud be none left!
Could you perhaps PM me how far you got. Were you looking at the bootloader, hardware etc. Seriously any help would be appreciated

[Q] were to buy a x10i motherboard

Hi does anyone know were i could buy a motherboard for the x10i?
Also if anyone had circuit diagrams of the board i could maybe repair mine
Dude, this is your 2nd thread within a few hours, with (and that's just a guess) the same problem.
I don't think you can buy a standalone PCB, as it is 90% of what makes the phone a phone.
What exactly happened to your or your GFs phone?
Maybe one over here can help out.
But you have to answer the threads instead of starting new ones...
it'd be cheaper and faster to get a new x10 xD

Now this would be a silly thing for the op to do. Perhaps when he purchased the device it was quite good but its an old phone now, and there are many more options that are availibe that do not have the flaws of the x10.
Op, if I were to suggest the smart thing to do, it would be to either purchase a Galaxy S, or even better, obtain an iphone 4. Atleast you would get multi-touch and have a phone that actually functions well as a phone.
Take care

Maybe try the guy that had his phone run over by a bus, externally the phone is damaged but it functions perfectly

Hooking up to a bigger touchscreen

Is it possible to hook the incredible up to a bigger touchscreen? Here's what I have in mind...I have been working on plans for a center console for my truck and I have been thinking about building a dock for the phone and hook it up to an 8" touchscreen...mainly for navigation, but it would be nice to be able to control the phone without having to pic it up. If it can't be done then I can just get a monitor instead of touchscreen.
Well you could utilize the TV Out but touch capabilities probably wont happen but it is possible..

I was just thinking about this the other day... I searched around but couldn't find any answers.
Although mounting a tablet in the dash also crossed my mind... cost and not being able to take calls ruined that idea though..

I believe the android tablets can be made to make phone calls, that plus bluetooth and it could work
Yes they can be made to take calls... I used my Archos 101 with sipdroid and google voice as a phone for about a week. A little buggy but it works.
A tablet would cost a lot more than any other option though. I just want to know if it will work.
Anyone know the answer to this for sure either way?
WHY?

I'm done with Acer

My A500 is going back to Costco. This the 3rd one that GPS just sucks. Before the update I was getting form 4-10 invew and in use. They did say GPS will be fix in 3.1...I'm not getting a lock at all now. So F Acer.
I just came back from fry's...they have the Toshiba on display. I tether my nexus 1 and got a lock in 3sec and it's lighter then the Acer. A little bigger but lighter. Yes it's just going to be the 16GB but I have a 32GB SD.
if you dont like it, return it.
edit: i personally havent had a problem with gps. besides its not like im actually using it to navigate. but just a heads up, i will almost guarentee you that there will be something you dont like about the toshiba. and it will just continue. no one makes a perfect tablet, thats why there is still competition and not one company dominating. but good luck, hope its something that works out for you.
Seconded

No need in being a smart ass about it.
GPS is weak on the Acer. It bothers me too but 99.9% of time I am using maps I am on wifi and locations works fine so not total FUBAR.

And without any brand fanboi-ism here, I'd have to agree. The GPS on the Acer works great for me - as long as you're connected to the Internet. Which requires Wireless. Which kind of assumes you aren't driving. There are some "hacks" to help improve that which seem to work pretty well, but it's a workaround and not an out-of-box solution.
Yes GPS works without Internet, but not as well.
But, I think we can mostly agree the OP is doing a bit of trolling, intentionally or not...

I don't know if it would constitute trolling. A "troll" is someone who says something for the sole purpose of enraging someone else. I think he was just expressing rage he felt himself.
To be honest, I share his pain. I'm considering taking mine back and giving it a third go because of the shoddy GPS.
There is no question that Acer provides poor build construction; but you get what you pay for. The A500 is the cheapest of the "me too" tablets, and it shows. They cheaped out on certain parts to bring the price down. Though, they are also claiming to have sold over a million units, so I guess the strategy is working. In retrospect, I wonder how many of the million units got returned.
What irks me is the complete lack of support from Acer. I've been investigating the GPS issue for a while, and it seems as though Acer is aware of the issue and is now starting to rationalize it, which is never a good sign. I've seen people claim that Acer has told them that the GPS isn't meant to be used for navigation; I've seen people claim that Acer techs have told them outright that GPS doesn't exisit on this model. I've been personally told by Acer that I could send it back in, but it would be on my dime because fixing the GPS constitutes an "upgrade" from original functionality.
Acer is playing the "max units sold" game to try and gain brand recognition in a vain attempt to overtake the iPad, and hoping they don't lose too many customers in the process to defective units.
If you want superior build quality, iPad is second to none. Hopefully the up-coming android tablets give us some more options. Best of luck on whatever you choose.
Cheers,
-PW

Which is why I really, really don't understand why folks are crying over below-average GPS performance on **WIFI ONLY** tablets.
And if you're using your phone as a wifi hotspot in conjunction with a 10" tablet--in your car--you might as well just use your damn phone as a GPS or get a 3G capable tablet.

Well there are apps such as CoPilot which just needs to have a GPS. Though it is a bit idiotic to use a 10" tablet as a navigator, it does not justify the malfunction of the GPS unit!
i.e. in Acer they build crap and QA just approve the crap and then we consumer help them out.
First of all it is not a cheap tablet, cheap to me means something in range of Chinese knock-offs.
Second to that, somebody here read warranty to me that we should accept what they produce since in warranty says everything is "AS-IS". Should consumers really buy crapware since brands says so?

Disable - Tap To Click - Not the entire trackpad. Please help...

Hi I'm sure this is been asked before. I have searched for threads on this and there are a couple but they are mostly a couple of months old. From what I can gather in the 3.2.1 or maybe 3.2 Asus killed this feature to disable it in the Kernel? So there was an app floating around that would let you do it but now it doen't work. Am I missing something. Tap to click is the only thing keeping my tranformer from being a full fledged netbook replacement. I have tried and tried but I can't get use to tap to click. I ten to jump between mouse and keyboard a lot so having to enable and disable the entire trackpad with the shortcut button just doesn't work for me. Any help would be great. Anyone know if maybe Asus will add a disable tap to click option in ICS?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
The guy just asked disabling tap to click. Some of you TF owners are so defensive lol.
To answer, the functionality was there before the most recent updates cannot do it. I too find the tap to click very annoying when I'm trying to take notes.
Op, hopefully they bring that feature back, I also don't like the all or nothing operation of the track pad. its nice being able to just disable the tap to click component and still use the track pad without moving the cursor around constantly while typing.
Sent from my Infuse... Love it!
I do understand your points, out gets old hearing the same crap, complaints etc... But, I tend to just ignore them and move along where you tend to antagonize to each there own.
On a side note, there is nothing wrong with trying to consolidate your equipment. In many cases the TF with the dock is getting pretty close to a netbook replacement. Asking these questions and striving to challenge these devices to be better than they are currently will be the catalyst that will eventually make them a netbook replacement and possibly a laptop/desktop replace.
after all, forums such as this are meant to seek advice and info as much as give it. but to each their own.

Thanks for the useful reply... it really is a shame Asus has dropped the ability to turn this off... its kind of a waste of a nice trackpad.
As for the other poster who apperently has nothing better to do then go around insulting people I'm sorry you feel this is something you have chosen as a second job from the sound of it. The point of XDA is to ask questions and hoepfully get an answer. Usually I will search and search for an answer before asking something that has already been covered to death. To answer your question I DO prefer a netbook but I would like it to run Android. It's a shame that nothing like that exists so the Transformer is the next best thing. The trackpad was something I was wondering if I could find a quick answer to and maybe consolidate equipment as mentioned above. But hey if your really that bored and insulting me makes you more of a man for your girlfriend by all means go right ahead. I work in Hollywood for a pretty huge entertainment show so I have developed pretty thick skin. I choose not to get an iPad by the way because I don't want to be another sheep like everyone else that works in this business. But to each their own... To the poster who give me the real info thanks again. I hope maybe Asus will add this function to ICS. To the other guy... Happy Holidays.

Apologies. Lately I've found myself more and more bothered by whiners. I used to ignore them. But its getting harder and harder to ignore them. I guess with the latest whines about the kindle fire (only 7 inch, no cameras, no market... exactly everything amazon told people they would get with the fire) I'm getting this much closer to a breakdown.
No worries brother. We all have bad days.
