I was looking at a way for my change of wallpaper to stick after the screen is turned off and back on and it seems I found a way. This requires root. It's pretty simple you just have to:
Code:
1. Change wallpaper within a launcher like ADW.
2. chmod 550 /data/data/com.android.settings/files/wallpaper
If you want to change it again you have to chmod it back to something like 755 and then back to 550 once you've changed it back to write-protected again. You can freely change between live wallpapers for some reason once it's 550
Not anywhere near ideal but it works for the time being. Much easier than injecting images into an app.
Thanks. I might try this when I get bored of the changing wallpapers

After that I'm able to change it myself within ADW or any other launcher and it sticks. This includes live wallpapers which look rather nice on the lock screen.

Well it does allow to switch to Live wallpapers. What I can't do now is change it to anything other than live wallpapers. So I'm guessing I need to reverse the process.
Anyone know the chmod command to do that?
Nevermind. 755 got me back to the ****ty Kindle permissions
BTW, 550 does nothing for me for picture wallpapers. Useless other than allowing Live wallpapers. Curious.
I've updated the first post with how I'm doing it for stills. I was only using a live one before so I didn't come across that problem yet.

I think it's hilarious we have to have the thing rooted just for something so simple as this.
I'm guessing future updates would likely fix a lot of these minor gripes, but it's still a bit funny to me. Good find.
Hi. With overriding lockscreen with "GO Locker", my KF goes to not trying to replace the wall paper anymore. Even if you rebooting your device, the wall paper which you selected keep the place
Nice, I'm going to try this sometime soon.
Does anyone know how many wallpapers there is by default?
i believe there are 21 images
Also, if you are rooted and have the android app store you can download widgetlocker v2.2.3 and they have support for kindle fire. It works perfectly!

I dunno about perfectly, if i leave my Fire unplugged for a bit and come back then the lock screen is there and the widgetlocker unlock screen is the 2nd unlock screen, with new and randomly chosed wallpaper.
Hoping i am just missing a setting someplace.

No, this happens to me too. Sometimes I get a broken KF unlock screen - in the sense that the layout is borked, but the slider is still functional, albeit shifted to one side.
I have Widgetlocker running in tandem with GO Launcher EX, so not sure if that might be the reason or its just an issue with the wallpaper rotator.

Help! I have tried this many times - I can get the wallpaper not to change if I use a Live Wallpaper but for the life of me, I cannot install a static (jpg) wallpaper. I'm rooted, market and gmail installed, etc... and using ADW.EX launcher (very nice).
Could it be the actual jpg image? I'm just using a plain, solid black jpg image that I have used on every rooted device from a Samsung Galaxy to my rooted Nook Color?
What's the format for plain solid wallpaper?
TIA

I am pretty sure this is related specifically to ADW EX as I experienced the exact same thing. I had to set the wallpaper about five times before it would actually stick. The key to knowing the selection worked was that I would receive two messages from ADW after making the selection, the second one stating that it was setting the wallpaper. If I didn't get that second message, I would have to go through the selection process again.
I am using Go Launcher and didn't experience any problems
setting the wallpaper.
Whatever wallpaper was set on the Fire when the chmod string executed
was the one that was set.
Did it on two different Fires.ā
Thanks to each of you...
devilot and tkalli: I finally figured out that it was ADW doing the problem thing - although interesting enough, I bought Widgetlocker and as soon as I installed it and opened it up, my wallpaper stuck (I did chmod to 550). Now we will see if it sticks through OTA Rootkeeper as i want to stream some videos from Amazon so I have to temporary unroot.

Hello everyone!
We have developed a new launcher once again! This is not the standard launcher that everyone makes. This is a Honeycomb Launcher. This launcher basically clones Android 3.0 Honeycomb as best as possible! Although this launcher is new, it clones Android 3.0 very well. Every update will bring more resemblance to0!
Anyways, the launcher is available on the Android Market now. All you have to do is search for Honeycomb Launcher. We have a BETA version which we run all of our tests on and a Donate version which is more stable and keeps our development going!
Honeycomb Launcher has many features that are in Android 3.0 and which are not in other launchers such as quick menus and much more. But one of the main features of this launcher is the girds for icons and widgets. The Portrait grid is a 10x10 and the landscape grid is 10x8. Which this means is the size and spots available for icons. The large grid-views will allow for you to place your icons and widgets in almost any place you want!
Screen shots are below!
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

really neato!
Just one thing: Whenever I want to move anything (either it be from the homescreens or from the app drawer)it lags a lot for like 3 seconds.
Also, sometimes when dragging from the AppDrawer it FCes.
HTC Wildifire
Stock 2.2.1
EDIT: Also, whenever I try to tick any of the settings in the Customise Honeycomb menu, I get FCed.
Ya we are fixing that! It is because of the grid size : (
but it is easy to fix. All you have to do is drag a widget on the screen and a few icons. Once you put a few icons and what not on the screen it speeds up quite a bit!! It is really weird. Maybe because when there is not a lot on the screen it has a lot to move over to get to a designated spot.
But dont worry, we will fix it : )
Thank you for that info
I will keep track if this topic/launcher since it obviously has potential
Thank you!
If anyone has any requests or want anything to be added let us know and we will add it in future updates!
Well, for one I'd like to see it be fully supported in QVGA.
When in portrait a part of the screen is missing, to be more precise the "back" button part of the screen.

I tried this and to be honest, the soft keys need some work, they just seem kinda unfinished in my opinion, they need to be bolded or something along those lines.
new setting nevr applies and it force closes
and hide notification dosnt even work
Hey for those who did not like to the look of the softkeys or just wanna change them, or if you just wanna make the add button more visible etc i have a way. Okay all you have to do is open the apk archive in 7zip and then follow these steps.
For example, to change the home key from the white and gray preset to the well known blueish-transparent download the hc3d add-ons (just search on xda). Next you need to double click res in the 7zip archive. After that click the drawable_hdpi folder once and drag it to your desktop. After that, locate the image you wanna use (i recommend the hc3d add ons) and copy and paste it into your desktop shortcut. Next, delete the current home_dock_button and rename your copy/pasted file as home_dock_button. You can also open them up and edit them to the proper size. (WRITE DOWN THE SIZES YOU NEED BEFORE DELETING THE IMAGE.). You can also open your new image and edit color, etc. To make your buttons now visible (like when the add button is only half shown) go back into your drawable_hdpi and find the image called line_break. All you half to do is open it and edit it to whatever size you want. i used 455x36. After you have edited whatever you want drag and drop the drawble_hdpi back into the 7zip archive for the apk. After this copy and paste back into your sd card.
If you try to install after this it will not work so you will need to download two apps. The first is signapktic and the second is Linda Manager (or any file manager of your choice). Open signapktic and locate the file you want then just go through its steps. This will resign the apk so it can be installed. Finally just open up your file manager, install, and enjoy. You will have to follow these steps evertime you try to edit a png/xml in the app so it is quite a tedious process.

Hope you can help. I'm running stock Android 4.2.2 unrooted. I downloaded DashClock and added it to my lock screen, however when I press the power button to look at the lock screen the widgets are really small next to the clock rather than full screen. If I swipe to the left and then back to the lock screen, the widgets go full screen. Any idea on how to make the widgets permanently full size like the picture below.

So there's a couple things about this question:
First, any widgets that you have in your first lockscreen by default are minimized to make room for your lock circle. If you just drag down on the widget, it will maximize your widget at the expense of your lock circle, which then has to be tapped to be brought up again. This is the behavior that you are seeing when you swipe away and then swipe back.
Second, if you want, some custom ROMs (namely cm and PA, but possibly others) have recently implemented an option to have your widget be expanded by default. So if that's what you're looking for, I would start there. Unfortunately, this feature is not available on stock so you will have to root your phone.
Hope that helps.

Actually, my bad. I assumed that DashClock's lockscreen widget is the same as it's homescreen widget. Apparently they're different. If you use WidgetLocker, you'll only be able to see the full homescreen widget.
To see what I mean, add the DashClock widget to one of your homescreens and compare that to what you see on the lockscreen...

Iām going to contradict myself here. I just realized that if the homescreen version of the DashClock widget is resized to be larger, it becomes identical to the lockscreen version of the widget.
Unfortunately, for some weird reason, if you try the same with WidgetLocker, the widget still looks like the compact version.
So, WidgetLocker is not the way to go for this. Sorry!
just for the record it is aokp's feature. very nice idea indeed.

Its a shame that stock Android doesn't have the option to maximize the lock screen widgets. I won't root and add a custom rom so it's a no go area for me unfortunately. Google if you're reading this please add that option!

This is how dashclock was designed and unfortunately you have to pull down the screen to get full access. Not sure the developer will change this or at least make an option to change this in future versions. You could always try and contact the developer and ask him to include this as an option, his Google+ account would be a good place to start.

If you are running PA (15th feb) go to hybrid properties -> swipe right -> tools -> turn on expert mode. Now go to interface and reduce lockscreen down to something like 190dpi. This should enable you to see the widget in full screen on the lockscreen. At least this is what worked for me.

I was able to get the widget to display full mode with two rows of info perfectly using the following settings on PA:
250 DPI lockscreen (turn on expert mode)
260 DPI dashclock widget
Keeps the overall size reasonable for both pattern unlock and widget size.

Thanks guys, no need to rub it in.
Hey guys,
I love the DashClock widget and use it on my lockscreen as well as my homescreen. However, I feel that having the big clock on the homescreen is redundant and unnecessary. At the current moment DashClock does not have an option to disable the actual clock (that I am aware of). So I am looking for something that is essentially the same as DashClock but with just the notifications and no clock.

Do you have location services disabled?
The widget queries for your location, in order to translate that location (latitude / longitude), into a woeid, that it then passes to yahoo weather to retrieve the weather data.
You can view your logcat to see the widget working to obtain your location etc, to know if it is working. For example, here is essentially the URL call being made on my phone:
http://weather.yahooapis.com/forecastrss?w=24700990
Are you able to access this URL from your phone? If so, there shouldn't be any reason weather can't be retrieved based on your location / woeid, unless yahoo simply can't find a valid location based on the data passed in.
EDIT: Well hell, I starting replying to this, got sidetracked, came back to finish, hit submit, and see it was essentially already answered

Okay, played around with the decompiled .smali code some more (rather than working from source), and I was able to "conditionally" control / set whether the clock & date appears based on whether the widget is displayed on the lockscreen versus home screen.
Lockscreen (with clock / date):
Home Screen (w/o clock / date):
This should pretty much be what you are looking for. As mentioned, I don't use this on the home screen, but for those that do, until / if this is supported in the actual app, it should hold those over looking for the widgets w/o the clock, etc, when displaying on the homescreen.
It's certainly possible I broke something in the process, hacking this in, so let me know if you see any issues.
Be sure to first uninstall your official version, and after installing the modded apk below (click to download / install from phone, or use adb to sideload), don't forget to hide the 'settings' icon in the Advanced drop down of dash clock widget as well.

Thank you so much. I am uninstalling the official one and giving this one a try right now. I will report back after doing some testing.
EDIT: I just went through the process of uninstalling the official widget, clearing cache/dalvik and then rebooting and installing your tweaked version. It looks to be working perfectly as advertised. I have the clock on the lock screen but not on the homescreen. I have tested notifications for email, missed call, and text messages. All are working just as they should.
Thanks a lot!

As in, an official theme, or a different one from the app store? Any suggestions here?
What about for those who are not rooted?
I've got like 12 themes installed all apks and no you don't need root. I had mentioned icons the other day and someone was nice enough to link a thread, themes from Optimus G or G Pro I guess they were for and they work perfectly with the G2. I am looking for the thread where he linked it to me, I'll put it here when I find it sorry.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281441
Edit: here is the link, just keep going thru the thread and there are many posts with links that will start downloading themes. Most are just 2 or 3 megs, once you have them just click on em in your download directory and they will install and then you can change your themes in the stock launcher under the theme setting. Make sure you have unknown sources turned on in your settings.

Thanks man- I got a few different ones, but I stuck with the stock vanilla.
There is ONE last thing I want to change: I don't like how folders look. Anyone got an idea on how to change that?

I've got them installed and I can pick from their icons by editing icon individually but I cannot find anywhere to apply a theme to the whole launcher. I have the at&t version if that matters. I've looked everywhere. Maybe it's just disabled on this model? I don't know. I really want to change my app drawer button though and it can only be changed by applying the theme to the entire home launcher.

For me, it was easy to find. I do have the verizon one, but the only difference in settings is that Verizon's settings page is set to one long one, and ATT has tabs (but either can switch that in settings).
I clicked the settings button from the home screen, which brought up the settings menu: then found homescreen and BOOM...
Try switching your settings view mode to single page over tabbed and it might be easier.

Your installing the apks and then changing themes using the theme setting from main menu or the Home menu under settings? When I switch themes it changes all my icons but maybe a quick reboot will refresh your dock and home icons unless Verizon is different like the ATT guys don't seem to have the theme chooser. I'm on T-Mobile.

I've changed the theme from both menus, same result. Then, if I use icon themer after changing the theme, it will change everything EXCEPT the system icons. Cool feature, just doesn't seem to be working for me like I wanted. Running Clean Rom if it matters. All I really want is a way to change the app drawer icon, which doesn't seem possible at the moment.
Thanks Devs. From my Verizon LG G2.
That is so weird, just changed my theme to Crystal2 in the LG Launcher and there you can see my app drawer icon is a cool X.

When I install a theme, it only themes the system icons, including the app icon(which is great), but not any other icons. I assume it's because of a variation in the way the system is set up as compared to the phone these were originally made for? I've tried 5 different themes with the same result, only system icons themed. Hmmmm...
On Cleanrom, if it makes a difference.

However the phone allows you to change any other app's icon at will... you can even go download images or create them in PS and have ANYTHING you want as an icon really easily. Just pick up the app, then drop it on your screen, and a purple brush shows up in the corner: click that and you can change it to anything... literally anything you want.

Again, I'm fully aware of that option, on the home screen, but that doesn't change the fact that the themes do not change any icons other than system app icons. In the drawer. Or system wide, like icon themer does.

Thanks for posting this, I can't find anything anywhere either. If there was a custom ROM, life would be so much easier!!

There isn't anything built-in for the lock screen wallpaper specifically, but as long as you don't have the Amazon "Special Offers" lock screen then whatever you set as your home screen wall will be your lock screen wall.

On mine, I had about 5 random stock wallpapers after paying to remove the ads. That went away when I changed the home screen again wallpaper after removing the ads and now my lock screen wall is whatever I set as home screen wall.

Which app do you use to change wallpaper? Because for me never happened what you describe
Inviato dal mio KFGIWI utilizzando Tapatalk
I'm using ADW ex launcher, (on an ad-free version of the Fire) and once I figured out where to stash my screen/wallpaper .jpg, it now works on the lock screen too. (It also does a great job of shrinking icons to 50% and increasing the grid size)
Okay, so where do you stash your jpeg?

You can easily change the wallpaper for home screen but until you pay for the ad free lockscreen the lockscreen will not change...
I used Wallchanger in Google Store after following the four steps (see link below) to install Google Account Manager, Google Framework and Google Play Services then the Google Store APKs.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/how-to-install-google-play-store-fire-t3486603
After installing WallChanger, I was able to select groups of pictures to activate as the wallpaper for my Fire HD 8

Does it change the lock screen wallpaper? As far as I know, but please correct me if wrong, you can only change the lock screen wallpapers using Amazon Photos. If you get rid of (uninstall/disable) Amazon Photos, you can no longer change the lock screen wallpaper. Does this do that without Amazon Photos installed?
simple solution
after having amazon uninstall 'amazon offers" i simply had to reset or reapply the lockscreen wallpaper, restart the device and voila.......rotating lockscreen wallpapers disappeared and only 1 image (the one i chose) remained on the locks screen as well as my background pic.......hope it works for you too

As always, you are right once again, DragonFire1024. You can use other Wallpaper apps to change the background of your home screen, but the Amazon Photos app is the only one that seems to affect the lock screen (at least from my limited experience)
Does anyone know how (without using an app like Wallchanger) to get a Fire HD to return to randomly shuffling the stock set of lockscreen images? I can easily change my lockscreen to any one image at any time, but I'd like it to go back to shuffling images like it used to (again, without a 3rd party app). Thanks.

Not so. You can just go to Settings --> Display --> Wallpaper, then choose & set an image, and it becomes the wallpaper AND the lockscreen, as long as you're not on "special offers." I'm just wondering how to get it so the lockscreen and/or wallpapers would shuffle or change on their own, like it used to, and without a 3rd party app.

Yes you can change the lock screen wallpaper because you still have Amazon photos. My HD 8 has not had special offers but if you uninstall or disable Amazon photos, you won't be able to change the lock screen wallpapers without modding the systemUI https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76071092&postcount=2

I've done it on my Fire HD8 7th gen.
It's easy. You need to install Nova Launcher.
Go to settings > display > wallpaper, and set one wallpaper there.
Next: Set a wallpaper with Nova Launcher. That will be your home screen wallpaper for Nova Launcher and Home Pages.
And there you've done it! In settings you set the lockscreen wallpaper. In Nova Launcher it somehow sets homecreen wallpaper even for home pages.
