Deleting an Android app with windows explorer ? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Whilst setting permissions in Android with permissions app I barred Launcher Pro's permission.
Now when I reboot Android (American Android) Launcher Pro crashes and the OS is stuck in a loop.
Is there any way of deleting or replacing Launcher Pro from Windows ?

You can try File Explorers like "Droid Explorer" or something ..
I use adb, you may give it a shot, too. remember to mount your system (adb remount)

Not possible from windows explorer, tried a number of possible solutions, ended up deleting the entire Android folder on the SD card and starting again.
Back to square one, my fault for not backing up before making potentially catastrophic changes to the config of the install.

If you're using cLK, use CMR:
1. to go advanced and to fix permissions, it should set it all to default.
or
2. to reflash the rom, it will not erase data, but will reinstall system => launcher pro fixed.

Moving apps to the /system/apps directory?

I have about 60mb free in the /system/apps and would like to move my apps that are on the /data/apps partition to the system memory... so that way I don't have to worry about memory going down on the apps i know I want to keep..
Currently running cyanogen 6.0. I tried using root explorer to move the apps to the system but when i install them they aren't actually in the /system/app...
Thanks,
-Nigel
If you're using root explorer you don't actually "install" them. You just move them to the /system/app/ dir. After you do that you'll probably have to change the permissions on the file. To do that:
long press the .apk
select permissions
select all of the boxes on the 'read' column (left column)
select the 'user' 'write' box (top middle)
uncheck the other 5 if needed
You'll most likely have to reboot afterwards and you might need to clear the cache/davlik in recovery if you're getting FC's
If they're still not showing up fix the uid apk permissions in recovery or terminal
Recovery:
other > fix uid mismatches
Terminal emulator:
Code:
su
fix_permissions
Get Titanium backup for root -> Under "Batch" operations you have an option to move apps to SD and vice versa. You can select apps that you would like to move and run it.
Thanks for the reply.
The above method worked perfectly fine!
I think my problem was that I didn't reboot or wipe the chache...lol I just expected everything to be updated and when I checked it it still didn't chnage I was a little confused.! Awesome. Just freed up about 40mb!
I have titanium backup but dont' want to install apps to the SD card... I don't see that as a benefit.. when there is space else where that will never get used. Where as the SD cardw will keep growing due to music and things like that..
thansk for the help!!

[System App Help] Apps in priv-app not showing in Android System

For clarity sake here is what im trying to do.
take camera folder that has camera.apk in it with camera.odex in the arm64 folder and move it into my system/priv-app/ that should hypothetically install it as a system app after a reboot.
Im doing this on a nexus 6p with android N preview 2 and the only file explorer that mounts the system as R/W is FX File Explorer (While in booted system; i have full control via TWRP though)
I do reboot because i know 5.x+ requires reboots between system changes.
I have done this via FX and is stays there even after reboots. Ive done this via TWRP and stays after reboot.
my issue is that after a reboot, the camera app does not show in the system. Its not is the app list in settings and i cant find any instance of the android system recognizing it.
I have this issue no matter what the app is unless i install the app as a non-system app first then manually create its folder system in system/priv-app/ and copy the apk to its newly created folder then uninstall the non-system app version and reboot. But i cannont do that with every app. Some have to be system apps from the beginning or they refuse to install (as expected)
Any help on this will be hugely appreciated!
Any ideas guys?
Same problem on my Nexus 5 with Nougat rom. I hope someone can help.

[7.1.1] Action Launcher as System App

Hi there,
I just recently discovered that moving Action Launcher 3 into /system makes it act like Google Now launcher.
I've tried:
using Titanium Backup, but it gets stuck in an endless loop
Then I tried using this app, and it says that it fails to remount /system
I've tried with Root Explorer, but got no success,
and lastly I've tried with shell commands in Material Terminal, but got no luck,
I'm rooted with SuperSU and Stericson BusyBox installed, and I was wondering if I'm missing something -- Is there a simple way to achieve this?

A simple update: simply waiting a while and then rebooting with Titanium seemed to have worked. Apparently TiBu remains looping, but the move has succeeded.
use root browser - there should be no need to mount anything as i do these steps for a modded pixel launcher
system > priv-app > *create folder called Action Launcher > add app and name it the same as folder > set permissions for folder > set permissions for app > reboot then select the launcher you want to you
Permissions must be set after folder and app are added
Action Launcher folder : owner - read,write,execute / group -read,execute / others - read,execute
Action Launcer apk: owner - read,write / group - read / others - read

Mistake after Gaining root on HD 8 2017. Please Help.

So, I tried This on my hd 8 2017 after rooting it. it didn't work and i ended up deleting /system/priv-app/FireTabletSettings instead of just the apk (when it didn't work) so i couldn't/can't open settings. this was my first time rooting, so i don't know anything, and thinking factory resetting would fix it, i reset it using recovery. turns out that doesn't do anything to system modifications. not even if i can get a settings apk, i can't enable ADB because i can't go into settings to enable it. i think i still have root at least. Any help?

If you have a copy of your settings APK, you'll just copy it back to its place. You can use any root file explorer e.g. FX or ES File Explorer to do this job. I have the same device so I could provide you my version.
Amazon also offers factory images for recovery that will restore your system partition.

I can't copy it though, because I can't install any uknown apps, because I can't enable it through settings. Edit: i also don't have a copy.

Download a factory image from Amazon and flash it via recovery. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=202144610

I don't think i can get to the root directory to put it there...
Download the latest software for your device from Amazon (the US site seems to have the latest version) or at least use a version no lower than your current one. Copy it to the same folder as your ADB driver. Reboot to recovery mode, connect to your PC by USB cable and do an ADB sideload of the software. When it is done you will have to re-root and disable unwanted system apps etc.
Edit. Same solution as post #4

How to uninstall Google Apps on ROOTED Oneplus 5 mit OxygenOS 10.0.0

I have had the Oneplus 5 for many years. After each update of OxygenOS I uninstalled some system apps (Chrome Google Photos, Gmail, Google Movies etc) in Solid Explorer (with root access).
But, since the update to OxygenOS 10.0.0 with Android 10 this does not work anymore. Solid Explorer says that the app has been deleted, but after a reboot it is still there.
When I try to uninstall one of the apps with Titanium Backup, the message "Cannot remove system app. Failed to locate the apk file."
Does anyone have an idea how to permanently uninstall and delete system apps?
Thanks!

On Android 10 it's not possible anymore to delete system apps directly from OS, even with root access. You must use Titanium for show the path of apps you want deleted, system apps are located on :
system/system/app
system/system/priv-app
Go in recovery TWRP
> mount Cache, System, Vendor, Persist, Data, Firmware partitions
> Advanced > File Manager > system/system/priv-app/Gmail > "Folder" button on right bottom > Delete
Do the same thing for all apps that you want deleted.
Actually,it does get deleted from a root explorer, however, few apps have symlinks as well, or few apps have stubs as well. Hence those may invoke reinstallation automatically. Those are the ones which need to be deleted permanently from recovery (especially).
As you have discovered, several apk files are system linked and so every reboot will bring them back. To counter this I use the xXx debloat script. The module is flashed in Magisk and allows one to select which apps and services you want removed. Here is a link to the module on xda: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=82391573&postcount=2.
You can flash the module with stock settings or make a custom profile as I did.
I have a question or two...
1) Is it ok to convert Chrome and Google Maps from system to user apps in android 10?
2) Will first deleting the app using TWRP, then install it from Playstore convert the app from a system to a user app?
