Buy a G1 on Ebay or Elsewhere

This seller seems to have multiple G1's to sell, the price is insane but that's what you get for a pre-release device, if anybody's interested go for it and come back with information.

I can get a G1 for a pretty good price, more than the retail will be but it hasn't released and will sell out quick, so yeah. Would anyone be interested in a G1 for like $600 shipped, I'll send it out on Monday morning overnighted USPS with insurance? Brand new, still in box. Let me know.

As for the iPhone, I have an iPhone 3G brand new in box like 8 feet away from me... And no intentions and/or temptations of removing it from the factory packaging.

Isn't full price $399...? Only having T-Mobile specific 3G bands, the G1 wouldn't get past EDGE on other carriers like AT&T...

Exactly, it would only get EDGE on AT&T... Why do you think I'd never buy one for myself?
And yeah, full price is $399 but considering they're already sold out and then some on preorders, good luck getting one any time soon.
I could get the phone for like $450-460 shipped right now, but like I said, I have no use for it. There are people paying $1000+ for them, so I figured 600 wouldn't be too bad for both sides.

The pre-order alottment is sold out, yes. The stores in 3G areas will be getting them on Oct. 22nd though. I guess if someone in a non-3G market wanted one ASAP and didn't want to wait until 11/10 -- might be happy to find you

There won't be plenty in stores, if you preordered before October 3rd you'll get yours shipped 22nd-23rd, if you preorder after it'll take them longer to get it to you. I'm willing to bet this turns out to be a lesser iPhone surge, but like I said it's irrelevant to me because I have AT&T. I was going to buy and re-sell it, instead I just gave the guy who asked me contact info of where to get it for $460, I'm too lazy to go through that.

Yeah can't say im shocked about people like this who try and rip people off, if i had that much money to spend on a phone it sure wouldn't be spent on the g1!!

Pretty expensive right? 626,95 USD (4 670,03 SEK) incl shipping to Sweden + tax and customs, but what options do you have when ordering to Europe? Is there a better deal, preferrable "Buy it now"?

I have mine for a few hours and already have it listed on eBay. I had to just touch it and look at it and now .. UP FOR AUCTION. I have the Xperia on order. I think it comes the end of the month. All I know is Windows Mobile.
Any way .. the phone is awesome. The thing I like the best as to the way it is built is the slide mechanism of the keyboard,. I think I have owned just about every GOOD PHONE out this year, including the HTC Touch Pro .. this keyboard is the nicest and the feel and the weight is just perfect. Hoping I like my Xperia as well ...

... I couldn't do it .. My auction was over $300 and I cancelled all bids and put my sim card back in. I will probably still buy the Xperia when it comes out - unless I fall in love with the dream. And if I don't I think I will give the Dream to my son rather than 'scalp' it on eBay.
Haven't had time to figure out how to just do the simple things .. I want to learn how to voice dial .. When I close a program is it really CLOSED or is it still running in the background sucking the life out of my battery ?? Maybe tonight I will take a closer look . . couldn't skip work 2 days in a row.

Viable to purchase unlocked g1's off ebay?
Hey guys,
I've found some "unlocked" handsets on ebay for sale, but was wondering if they would still be restricted to the 2g network??
As that's where I thought they were currently with their "unlocking" process...
Also does T-Mobile do anything special in order for gmail to push mail to the device, or is that just like controlled entreily over a standard data connection?

2g/3g isn't a restriction. Its a hardware limitation.

When the phone is fully unlocked it will work on any network with both 2G and 3G.

From what I know it will not work with ATT 3G as they are different frequencies and I have heard lots of problems with peoples Unlocked G1's syncing to google/gmail under other carriers other than T-Mobile.

Selling My Shift for New Toys - Cheap

I have a Shift that I haven't used since I bought it. While its the coolest device I've owned, my company's internal software doesn't play well with the Shift so I find myself always leaving it at home. So, I'm cutting my losses.
It is in prefect shape.
It was bought new from dynamism (I had a good experience w/them, BTW).
I may be able to find the box, but I'm certain that I have lost the leather case in some airport.
I'll reset it to factory fresh. Save $500.00 over new, and only you will know its not new.
I'm asking $450.00 + the freight of your choice.

I know I can (even if they have already taken the money) but I'm in Belgium and my brother was in US a month ago, now he is here and will not go back to US.
I might come to US in some months... but I hope I will get the one I order before coming to US loooooooool

I haven't reacted about your issue... but have you tried with Windows 7 or Windows XP? It's weird that the company's internal software is not working fine with the shift... I think that there should be some hopes for you (have you tried ReadyBoost?) and it could be fine for you to enjoy the shift.

if I got mine in some days, I can show it to all my colleagues and maybe someone would be interested by a so cheap device with all those advantages ... so let's tune in

I have a hardly used HTC Desire up for sale or swap to anyone interested.
It was on Orange but it has been unlocked and debranded.It has no scratches or marks on the phone and is in perfect working order.
I dont use the phone at all and so find it pointless having a £400 phone sitting around when someone else could make use of it. Ideally i would like a swap for another handset and obviously depending on the handset some cash too seeing as it will most likely be for a cheaper handset.

I'm from slovenia, (you know, between italy and austria ) and my freind just bought an unbranded (unlocked) wildfire but its got only 3rd of the capabilites the desire offers, so i think it would be best for her, to get a desire.

But anyhow, i got a desire and dude, spend some quality time with it, when u get to see its potential you will be amazed it can do almost anything your laptop can do. Its a mini laptop and trust me you will get fond of it in no time as soon as you realize how easy this phone works and how powerful it is.
When u personalize the phone with some extra apps from market that will make your phone your personal assistant, you wont give it away for 1000€ i know i wouldnt trade mine for nothing. Maybe for seat leon 2008 FR edition, white only

[Q] Buying i9000

Hello, I recently destroyed (mostly by accident ) my iPhone 3gs and have been trying to decide on a new phone. After searching for awhile I believe I want the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant i9000 from Bell.
I am a Telus customer and have read quite a bit on XDA and some other sites about unlocking and am under the impression it's not too difficult to do on your own. I've unlocked a couple devices before (HTC Diamond and an iPhone 3g for a friend) and it went smoothly.
I've looked at the iPhone 4s and they are impressive however the antenna issue is impossible to over look.
Mainly what I am wondering is am I going to be happy going from an iPhone 3gs to the Samsung i9000. The phone is gorgeous and everything I have seen from it has impressed me. For some reason however (perhaps because I was so happy with my iPhone, speed, ease of use, etc.) I feel like I am going to miss my iPhone. I realize Android is superior to iOS and is much more flexible and I use Google for everything so that's a huge plus in my eyes.
My second question I suppose would be where can I buy an i9000? Can I just go into the Bell store and buy one contract free? Do I have to tell them I am going to Telus? Will they make me buy a SIM card or anything of that sort?
Lastly.. The i9000 on the Bell.ca website claims a 499.95 price off contract. eBay, Amazon and pretty much anywhere else I look is saying upwards of 600 dollars for one. This is unlocked of course. But is it being unlocked actually worth 100 - 200 dollars more? If so I might get into the unlocking business..

Hey, i got mine SGS from Costco (Montreal) at 498,50 $ (bell, no contract) and im on Fido. got free unlock with app. you can get free from android market. Its an amaising phone.

Hi everybody in this wonderfull forum.
To get straight to the point, I'm planning to get a new phone in the next month.
I've serched alot but found no smartphone has multi-boot abilities like HTC HD2. The HTC HD2 has 'quiet' good hardware in comparison to current smartphones on stores shelves. You all know that already.
The problem is, for an outdated device like that, is it worth buying it new? as i don't trust used smartphones anyway.
The way i see it like this:
Yes, very worthwhile because:
Large nice display;
Multible OS support, live in many worlds;
While WM6.5 is depricated, still very functional specially with HTC sense;
The price is affordable according to the fact that it is old somehow.
No, it's worthless because:
Display is sub-bar to currnet devices display regarding multitouch, 65K colors limitation, and overall quality against S.AMOLED Plus or Retina displays for example;
Multible OS support is great but won't go without issues. At least won't be as fluid as native OS on its own device;
Camera is not decent (no 720p video recording, at least as much as i'm aware of);
The price is affordable yes but i can add up a bit more and get newer phone that is better hardware wise and withought much issues.
I know this question might been asked many times. still i ask as it is time dependent and the answer change over time.
What do you guys recommend me to do?
Buy HTC HD2 and fulfill your needs to 'Have It All' and don't complain about any issues;
The time is over for an outdated device even with multiple OS's possibility, save your money son.

Personnally I would go for a newer device. Windows Phone 7 as it stands I don't think is worth having and all the apps are far to expensive. Android is the only thing I would use on this phone. Also after using MIUI (I'm going to say it) I have realised how much I like this Iphone style software, so I might wait around until the new Iphone is out. If not I will be upgrading to something like the new evo 3d.
Having said all that tho I might even hang on to my HD2 for a bit longer as it isn't slow doing anything I throw at it unless I add the new sense onto it.

Is say buy a re-conditioned hd2 save some money, android feels native to my hd2 its more native than most android devices because it has a bigger team working on it.
Is you want android and you want to save some ££££ get one if you want android and £££££ aren't an issue get the galaxy2

this all comes down to how much you plan on spending for a new phone. also if you wouldn't mind a new to you phone (referb/used) i would check out ebay. you can get them sometimes rather cheap..well under $200. if your due for an upgrade anytime soon then i would get a new device. i will say though, i had the touch pro 2 and then went to a "true" android phone the mytouch 3g slide but i missed all you could do with the tp2 so i sold my mt3gs and bought a hd2 off ebay for $120. i couldn't be happier with this phone. if you wouldnt consider yourself a heavy cell phone user and take the hd2 to its limits i also would say it might be better for you to just buy a new phone. letstalk and wirefly always seem to have good deals on new phones plus if you hunt down promo codes you can save yourself a lot of money. it knocked off $80 on 1 purchase and got a free bluetooth on another.

Not a problem. I even found radioshack at times have good sale prices on they're phones. I think all of these will even let you use your upgrade if your due for one. if you do plan even down the road i found it worth wild to try to find those promo codes. just go to your browser..yahoo/google whatever and type in wirefly promo codes or wirefly coupon codes. it will give you tons of sites but if you take a little time like i said it could save you a good amount of money. glad i could be of any help.

Just to make it clear, i currently hold Blackberry Curve 8520 that i want to replace. The next phone would be my main phone for at least 2 years. I live in Egypt so no access to T-Mobile stuff i think.
If i to buy a phone, no way i could change soon. my budget now about 3000 L.E or 500 USD. Still, i know phone prices are higher in Egypt than USA so don't let that 500 USD think of high end devices as i wont be able to get them here with that price.

you could always look for a device that could be used world wide and buy it in the U.S offline from someplace like amazon/ebay etc and have it shipped to Egypt. Im really ignorant to what would be in Egypt and wouldn't as far as stores so im not sure what would and wouldn't work. sorry. i did almost buy the g2 from ebay in the UK because it was a lot cheaper there then here in the US and the seller told me it would work but i bought the hd2 instead so i dont know for sure. i can say the hd2 is a gsm phone so like tmobile or if its unlocked you can use at&t. im sure there are ways to get it on different gsm providers but im clueless of how to flash it over.

Yep that's a problem. I don't know what i buy abroad would work here or not. besides shipping has costs plus government share ... i think it'd be the same if i buy form local stores besides the guarantee that what i buy works.

Go for new device. Go for Samsung galaxy s2. But if htc hd2 satisfies ur needs then go for it, no need to go for new devices.

the htc hd2 can run ROMs that are desire & desire hd base so thats always a plus but considering that the next phone will be your main phone for two years i really think buying a new phone is the best route for you. also if you ask whats a good phone in a specific model thread everyone will tell you they have the best phone so checking out reviews on sites like cnet.com & testfreaks.com are probably your best option as far as getting an idea on a good phone. i still would check the threads after you have an idea on a couple phones you like just to see what people can do with those phone's that aren't really listed in the specs.

Thank you guys for sharing your thoughts. I red them all and figured out this. i like to play with different OS's. This is what i do on PCs so, i guess if i'm bounded to a single OS (however its greatness), i'd miss having other mobiles with other OS's. The HTC HD2 seems a good deal to me. And its hardware is not that bad afterall.

i buyed a broken hd2 for 90€ 1 month ago. all i can say it's that it's a wonderful smartphone, no other phone on the planet can run 5/6 OS, android feels like native, and developement is still real active. i didn't feel the need of a faster smartphone.
hardware is really good, photo aren't bad, we have 720p recording with wp7 and soon on android too, screen is ok, multitouch is perfect, it lacks video out, but how many time we need a tv-out? (i used tv-out on my ipod video 2/3 times in 3/4 years just to test it), it lack a frontal camera, but hey! i hate calling, i double hate video calling
so i didn't need anything else

Yep you are totaly right in my opinion. However, i saw many videos on youtube complaining about battery life even on the stock os. i know big screen = battery drain faster. but 6 or 8 hours aren't accepted at all as some videos shows. They also said stuff about lags and the need to restart the phone few times weekly and sometimes daily. Can anybody confirm or deny this claim? I'd appreciate it.
