I have read and tried anything I could think of here.
I have downloaded RC29
Extracted the file to SD ccard formated to FAT32
Started up in Bootloader
Phone found the file and successfully installed
Pressed action button to reboot.
Stays in Tri color screen
I have tried the soft reset, but I am still stuck at the G1 screen.
I am not new to flashing and recovery, only to the G1. What am I missing?
Does it reboot and return to the tri-color screen, or not reboot at all? Did you try taking the sd card out and then rebooting?
The same thing happened to me, I downloaded rc29 to root my phone so I did the rooting and then I wanted to install the JF Rc33 update so I tried rebooting in recoveyr mode to install the update and my phone just got stuck in the G1 logo. It works on normal reboot but not in tecovery mode or when I press camera & power it takes me to a white screen with green letters and the little green android guy..... how can I fix that? I want the jf update. Is there any way of installing it without having to use recovery mode? Or is there anyway to fix recovery mode?
danguyf,
Thanks.
I just redid the RC29 boot off the SD card. Just to rule out some more issues, I formatted the card again (512mb Sandisk).
As soon as I hit the action button, I get the tri color bootloader screen.
I have tried:
removing the SD card PRIOR to pressing the action button
removing the SD card PRIOR to a soft boot (call, end menu).
I have been using a fully charged battery.

Thanks. Gotta learn a new OS!
I will give this a try in a few and report back.
Oke good luck !
You need a WM phone to make a Goldcard and Qmat 2.24 if you use Windows.

Just so we are clear, these are the steps you followed???
1. Format your phone's SD card to FAT32 mode:
* Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
* Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
* A new removable disk should show up on your computer. Right click it and select Format, and select FAT32 as the file system type.
2. Download and unzip the RC29 or RC7 image file. Copy the DREAMIMG.nbh file to the SD card. (RC29 for US, RC7 is for UK)
3. Turn the device power off.
4. Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry bootloader mode. You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card. If you don't see that, make sure you followed the instructions properly.
5. As per the on-screen instructions, press the Power button to start upgrade procedure. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS.
6. After it is finished, perform the restart your phone.
The phone is not mine. It came in to us to recover. It came in frozen on the G1 screen, so I cannot perform these 2 steps:
* Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
* Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
It does charge via USB and AC.
It is now powered up and frozen, but XP does find the Android phone and it shows up as a disk drive in device manager.
First off, who froze it?
Secondly, does the phone get to the homescreen?
The user brought it in at the G1 screen.
That is as far as it gets in power up.

i hope you have a computer and either an extra mini sdcard *1MB in size* handy, or a mini sd card reader handy.
format the card, fat32.
download the rom from here. *scroll down to downloads section and pick the appropriate one. rc-33 U.S. RC-9 U.K. ADP unbranded*
if it's already named update, transfer it to the card, if not rename it update, then transfer it to the card.
After it has been transferred.
place the card back into the phone. start the phone up holding home and end key till it enters the recovery mode.
you should see a list of commands with a leopard looking-like screen.
hit alt-w
then alt-s
after it is complete, hit back+home to reboot again.
Just wanted to follow up annd say thanks to everyone for the help. I did not get a chance to deal with it today, but I will post the outcome.
I have the same problam too.
I have JF 1.1 Holidey version and when I try to update it to jf1.5 it gets stuck on the G1 logo, I tried using differnet updates to and differnt sd cards
and even tried the JF updater and it dosent work, I'm a bit frustrated, my brother rooted the phone for and installed the RC29 rom and the JF rom,
it offered me a system holiday update awaile ago and when I updated it froze on the G1 logo after I waited a long time (about 45 min) I removed the battery and started the phone again.. then I saw about 35MB free space (before I had only 10MB) and I think that from that point it added the holiday but I'm not sure if it wasn't already before that.. I realy need your halp with this.. I can't find a way to boot my phone and start a bootloader..
p.s. I was able to get to the fast boot when I press the power + Camera but I don't know how to use it..

G1 homescreen freeze
Hi,
I have a G1, installed hero-rom from xda(Jacheroski 2.0). I found it pretty annoying because the phone was very slow etc. So i tried to go back to the almost original software.
1. started G1 in recovery mode(Home+power), alt+x, adb shell, #parted /dev/block/mmcblk0, mklabel msdos, Y, rm1, rm2, mkpartsfs, primary, fat32, 0, 8000(8 gb card), shut down G1.
Downloaded:
- Radio (from htc support)
- SPL (from xda)
- Rom (from htc support)
Copied those files to my SD.
2. started my G1 in recoverymode(Home+power), wipe, apply any zip from SD,
First installed Radio = succesful
Tried to install SPL:got an error in line.
So thought that I first need to reboot my G1(because of the radio)
I rebooted my G1. got a installation screen. then I restarted my G1 and wanted to go to recovery mode to install spl and rom. It was frozen on the homescreen. I can't do any thing. not recovery not the other one(camera+power)
Any advice?
my phones rooted and I have the Regaw mod ROM load on there, and its been good for a couple days now. Last night I went to sleep and forgot to charge my phone so figured the battery died. I plugged in it for about 10-15mins or so to turn it on and all it does is hang on the HTC bootscreen!!!! then I try to boot into recovery and all I get is at the bottom of the screen it says "Build : RA-HEROC-v1.5.2"!!!! Does this mean my phone is bricked!!!???
Remove the battery. Put it back in. Try to boot.
There are other solutions. As long as it turns on there should be a way to unbrick. Try RUU as well.
i tried the battery pull a couple times im trying the RUU now but what the hell could have bricked my phone over night?
I think what the guy in the 2nd post is trying to say, is that if it is booting, it isn't bricked.
It would be bricked if you couldn't do anything with it, then its like a brick.
I know it is probably a bit scary but ify ou can boot it at all, you most likely can fix it.
Did you make any changes (remove any files?) yesterday at some point, and this would have been the first restart?
I don't know, it could be a number of things.
It is probably not bricked. I bricked my G1 so I have some experience in that area. If you can boot into recovery it is not bricked. When I bricked my G1 I couldn't even get to recovery. let it charge a bit. Th battery is probably just dead. OR. take the battery out and plug it in and try to boot. Let it boot for about 15 mins or so.
no i didnt change anything at all, except my sd card said it was corrupted after unplugging it from my PC improperly. and I didnt reformat it right away. I just tried to RUU and i got an Error 170 a USB connection error

Where does the recovery image read from? I know we put it in the root folder of the SD, but does it actually boot from there? Could be your issue...
are you runnings apps2sd or whatever it is called?
yes that possibly could be my issue!! how can i fix my sd card or what should I do?
no I am not running apps to SD

I'm not so sure. I am pretty green when it comes to all this rooting stuff. I'm just trying to help figure it out.
Maybe try booting without the SD card in the phone? Could help to narrow down the issue.
I'm sure someone with more knowledge could help.
yea im booting it now with NO SD and its still hangs at the HTC screen

Can you try plugging it into your USB connection and getting into the ADB shell (in CMD) to see if you can access the phone even though it seems stuck.
I know I did this and was able to monitor the logcat when I thought it was stuck, but it was really just doing a whole bunch of stuff.
Just an idea....again, I'm just fishing here trying to help you out.
it tells me error: device not found
i went to (CMD) then cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools and then adb devices
you might have to manually rewipe your recovery partition in cmd. I had to do that after the official ruu messed up my phone- it wouldn't boot at all, I had to use the fastboot command: fastboot oem boot, then using my nandroid backup restored my recovery.

im kinda of a noob at some of this so kinda need to explain it out lol ...I just booted to recovery and pressed *vol up* and got me to Fastboot Mode then it says press <Menu> to reset device, should I do that option?
okay i pressed menu and all that got me was it hanging again at the HTC screen.. should i do all of this with my SD card in or out of the phone?
When you boot it and it gets into the "partial" recovery mode, does the PC see the phone? Can you put RA-Heroc-1.6.2 onthe SD card from there? If so, I'd try flashing the new recovery from ADB...very easy...and see if that gets you a bit further along.
You might also try cheating a bit. See if you can pull a nandroid from the SD card (might have to do this with a card reader), then get Flipz's Kitchen and restore the Nandroid after you boot into recovery.
Just a couple of things I'd try....from experience...

okay this is what happens i press vol down and power then is load where the androids are on skateboards and it says press <HOME> for recovery along with a Fastboot mode and Simlock option. I press home and then I see the HTC screen for about 30 secs and then where I normally would see the recovery menu with all the green writing i see all black except at the bottom is says
Build : RA-heroc-v1.5.2

To follow this and break it down a bit more for you:
1. Plug in USB with phone off
2. Turn on phone and get it to the "blank" recovery screen.
3. Run through the flashing of the recovery rom image again (see HERE) but start at step 13 or so.
Try doing the above post..
Hi all, sorry I'm a noob so please bare with me. /flameshield up. Anyways I've had a tmobile HD2 since it has been released and my brother is the one who has always tinkered around with my phone (no longer around), so I have no idea what he's done to it. Anyways right now it is currently running WP7 but it keeps restarting for me and sometimes all my data gets erased. I used to have android 2.2 on it but it also used to freeze up also. I was just wondering, is there a guide I can follow to go from WP7 back to Android 2.2 along with something that might help my phone stop freezing?
Your phone is restarting cuz of your sd card or it is incompatible with WP7. You need to format the sd card with panasonic formatter, full format btw. If that doesn't work, you need a new sd card.
To flash MAGLDR android do this:
Download a MAGLDR android build of your choice , don't ask me which please, all of them are great and oyur phone is compatible with all of them
power off phone
power on phone whilst holding power/end call button button
hold power button until a menu pops up
Using your volume keys to go up or down go to USB Flasher
Use the call key to select USB Flasher
Connect your phone to the PC.
From the android build you downloaded, go to its contents and run DAF.exe, in administrator mode btw.
Read and click next, if no read me pops up, ignore and keep going on.
Android should be installed.
For flashing a clockwork mod build, there are plenty of guides on how to, just search and read up on it.
Tyvm, I got android booted but it freezes when it says "Preparing SD card" I assume its my sd card thats making it freeze, so ill grab a new one and hope that works. I've also noticed that my phone gets very hot when it freezes, could it be that my cpu is working to hard, thus making it overheat and freeze?
hey people i have an mytouch 4g and im stock in the boot mode screen aparently ma phone fell in water i have no clue is this have to do something with it but my battery stop working i dry the phone i have a new battery and i turn on the phone so now is in the boot mode screen and i cant get out of it i click the recovery option it start loading it show like is loading something from the sd card but when it stop it goes back to the same screen i try the factory reset option and it shows like an image of the phone and like a red triangle in the screen like an error and from there doesnt do anything else i just have totake out the battery so it turn off and when i turn it back on is in the boot mode screen?? can some one please help???
i find it terribly difficult to read text that has no punctuation as well as all lower case because it is very difficult to follow you need to comprehend the damage that was done to your phone by water which may render it entirely unusable for a variety of reasons there are two flash devices in the phone the external sd card that came with it and an internal flash memory built in to the hardware which contains the android system the bulk of applications and your application data replacing your external sd card will not solve your problem if the internal flash memory has been damaged the red triangle is produced by the stock recovery program which can only recover if you have a recovery image loaded on your sd card here is something you can try download the pd15img file and rename it to PD15IMG.zip copy it to the root of an sd card to do so you will need to find another microsd device a phone or camera then insert the card into your mt4g phone insert the battery and hold the volume down while powering up you will be in the bootloader use volume up down to mouse between selections and the power button to select select bootloader select factory reset if this works and if there is no other damage your phone you should be good to go

I find it terribly difficult to read text that has no punctuation as well as all lower case, because it is very difficult to follow.
You need to comprehend the damage that was done to your phone by water, which may render it entirely unusable for a variety of reasons.
There are two flash devices in the phone: the external SD card that came with it, and an internal flash memory built in to the hardware which contains the Android system: the bulk of applications and your application data. Replacing your external SD card will not solve your problem if the internal flash memory has been damaged.
The red triangle is produced by the stock recovery program, which can only recover if you have a recovery image loaded on your SD card.
Here is something you can try:
* Download the PD15IMG file and rename it to PD15IMG.zip.
* Copy it to the root of an SD card. To do so you will need to find another MicroSD capable device -- a phone, or camera.
* Then, insert the card into your MT4G phone.
* Insert the battery, and hold the volume down while powering up. You will be in the Bootloader. Use volume up down to "mouse" between selections, and the power button to select.
* Select BOOTLOADER
* Select FACTORY RESET
IF this works and IF there is no other damage your phone, you should be good to go.
same thing happened to me.had the exact same problem. i just let the phone completely dry out,for about a week then it jus started working.i did have to install the stock rom.
A few days later the phone just went blank again,so i sent it in to tmo and got a new 1 for free
Sent from my ICED Glacier using XDA App
ok...so i was playing with the custom partition tool and ended up screwing up my phone...now the phone doesn't boot...i can't mount data or format it...can't wipe Dalvik's cache...i've tryed fixing this with a stock firmware...it didn't even want to install it...it's like the whole data partition off my phone is unaccesable...please helpp...
We do not know what you did to your phone, please explain it.
1) Did you use the tool that increases your internal storage for apps?
2) What happens if you hold vol+ and vol- and turn on the phone?
3) What happens if you hold vol+ while turning on the phone?
4) What happens if you try to simply boot up the thing?
5) What happens if you follow the instructions Huawei provides for updating the ROM?
You might have damaged the partition table of your internal memory. That should not be that big of a deal - as long as your computer still recognizes the device.
If your computer does not recognize the device, do the following: Download the .iso-image provided here. Burn it onto a CD and start it up, it is a linux-live-cd. There will be only one program, gparted. It will recognize your device.
No my computer recognises the phone...i tried to increase the internal memory...if i hold vol+ and - the phone goes in to bootloader...i cna also access the recovery mod...if i boot the phone...it just says IDEOS and frezzes there..i followed the instructions on huawei and stock rooms...install but at the end they say instalation failed...hope i didn't forget anything

Than all you have to do is go into Recovery, mount the SD Card, copy the customer Rom and install it.
Amm...well i tryed that...and it's the same thing..still get that same IDEOS screen and nothing happens..and what is a customer ROM?
We'll...it's over..my phone died:/...i tryed the gparted...and screwed something up even more...so i'm gonna take it back tommorow..tnx for the help..
If you do not explain what you doing exactly I am afraid I cannot help you. gparted is a tool used to format and partition memory. You cannot screw up anything, it is just a software change. I suggest you tell us what you see when you select the device within gparted (which partitions show up etc.) before returning it.
i see nothing..the phone doesn't even wanna turn on now since i did something with gparted...and gparted doesn't show my device..cos it doesn't read it...it's dead..
If it does not turn on anymore you do need to send it in for repair. Please be careful the next time and if you do want to apply that partition program, do exactly what the instructions say. Besides overclocking this is the only thing you should not experiment with.
Well hopefully you get a new device (or a repaired one) soon!
