Disabling Photobucket? - G2 and Desire Z General

When I got my G2, I rooted with Visionary and disabled the packages for all of the preinstalled crap that I didn't want like Facebook and Twitter.
However, since the most recent firmware update, I noticed that Photobucket has managed to crawl out of the grave I dug for it and is now happily running in the background and prompting me to share my photos when all I want to do is share my fist with its face.
Is the only way to crush this thing to downgrade back to Froyo and re-root? I never took the steps to cascade my root into Gingerbread since disabling those packages was the only thing I ever did with root.
As a side note, **** T-Mobile for preloading un-uninstallable stuff on this phone.

I installed a rooted stock gb ROM and then used Titanium Backup to yank the unwanted stuff like Facebook and photobucket.

there is also a great app (requires root) called Root App Remover that will remove any stock app without all of the bloat of Ti Backup

you can uninstall most things with titanium backup, another handy feature is you can detach an app from the
market to stop it getting updates

Un-installing Orange software?

Hi does anybody know how to get rid of the software that came on the phone through orange paymonthly tarrifs? Orange maps? weather, and a load of widgets that r frankly irritating? I am new to using android and a newbie when it comes to any technical stuff lol, but any suggestions would be great-)

I got rid of the stuff on mine by rooting the phone using the one click root, then i uninstalled them using titanium backup.
After that I ran a lag fix and the phone flies!
yup titanium backup is the best App to remove those junk included by the cell phone providers
you can easily backup first, then uninstall
so in case of crap happens, then you can easily restore the backup

Freezing Apps on Pro / Running Rooted GB

I love Gingerbread on the Pro, and love having it rooted (kudos to P3), but have noticed that its a little trickier to freeze unwanted apps (via Titanium Backup) without stumbling upon system conflicts.
Note - I use Launcher Pro Plus for my launcher app. I also use Handcent for SMS and K9 for all my email (4 gmail/google apps accounts); no MS Exchange
Thus far, the things I have successfully frozen:
Bookmarks Widget
CityID
Email
Email Authenticator
Files
Flickr
Help Center
Home screen tips
LastFM
Messaging
My Verizon Mobile
Myspace
New & Weather
News
NFS Shift

Thanks for the list. You've rooted GB on the Pro?

Yes - rooted GB via Team Black Hat
in my experience, freezing the authenticators seems to cause my motorola contacts to force close; e.g. I can't open any contacts. Not sure if skyrock messes anything up but probably check just in case

Agree. I have gone through several iterations arriving at the list that results with no force closes. So far, so good.
I've frozen DLNA as well, but it still seems to show up on my watchdog so I had to rename the apk to get rid of it.

As far as I know, there are 2 apps for DLNA. The first has the obvious name of DLNA but there is a second one where it has a different name but has "dlna" in the service name. Found using SystemApkManager
great list!
I followed this list and everything went great (but I did not freeze anything, I just cut & paste all apps on my SD card), except I lost my Messaging application (duh!) So I put the messaging APK back in the system/app folder and restarted, but the Messaging app still doesn't show in the app drawer. Any ideas? Am I supposed to "ADB Push" it?
Help Anyone?
Update: So I was trying to flash the TBH Gingerbread files via recovery & the flashing was aborted! But when I rebooted I found that my Messaging app has been restored Talk about lucky.

Help! How to ROOT the droid pro
Kudos for the list, and GB on Pro
I too am an avid Gingerbread Boy on Droid Pro. I had a Pro for almost 3 years, running v 2.3.4 (OTA updates from Froyo to GB 2.3.3, then OTW to 2.3.4), but never realized I couldn't root on 2.3.4 so I found a blog by Sarat Marudhuri, "Rooting For Dummies," and was all set to begin following his steps, including flashing back to 2.3.3.
This past Saturday, after a week of thinking my battery was becoming toasted as I couldn't maintain a good 3G signal and the battery kept wearing out in no time because when 3G returned and the Bloatwares all got happy and started up again, I was still avidly pursuing root. Sunday Page Plus had a major server shutdown, both web and phones, and my broker, Prepaid Online, told me all about it, and asked that I keep trying. At 20 minutes before 9 (central), I managed to score on the call in, and hit the "hold circle" with muzak for about 39 minutes, then got a recording stating the office hours, and the office was closed, so try tomorrow. A buddy of mine is manager of a corporate store, and had a Pro that someone had traded in, so he gave it to me. To my surprise, it was pristine in condition, and was still on 2.3.3! Now this evening, I've spent the past 5 hours working through Sarat's blog and yes, I am now officially "ROOTED" although I'm going to stick with the current version and avoid 2.3.4. I used his list to freeze at that Verizon Bloatware, and confirmed his list with your's!
Hats off to XDA-developers for giving us such a great resource to streamline our Android phones!

How to stop background services?

I am new to Android, still got my iphone 3GS as a backup. One reason for switching was to be able to watch flash video, the problem I have is because apps and services never seem to close, no matter what I try, video too slow to play with everything else running.
Is it possible to stop services on the Galaxy Note so they don't restart automatically, unless I want them to? I have tried several killer apps, but does not really do it. Why is not possible to only run one app and service at a time or why I want?
Help!!!

There are some apps and services which restart upon closing manually. The only way to have them remain closed is by freezing them or uninstalling them. You have to first root your phone and then install Titanium Backup. In there you will have to either uninstall the apps/services or freeze them. It also works on stock apps which came pre-installed on the phone. Just be careful not to uninstall any apps which are part of the O/S.
you need to root your phone, and rum a root level app manager.
This method worked on my Galaxy Note:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830969
once you rooted, install titanium backup. To back up all you apps. If you are willing to pay, this app will let you freeze apps not to run in the background as well.
Or install gemini apps manager, it allows you to change the autostart, block, and uninstall any apps you want.
Just becareful not to block or uninstall importNt system apps. They are addictive because you feel powerful and in control.

Since you are rooted you should be able to remove it entirely. If you are not rooted you can disable it, which for all practical purposes is the same as removing it (except you will not reclaim that space in your memory).
Thats what i though but i cant. At least not through application manager

There's also the useful HP print service plugin another piece of useless junk included for some bizarre reason......i can only assume HP and Facebook paid Samsung to include the crapware........
That crap has been on every android I've owned from HTC and Samsung. I don't understand why you would need that unless you have an hp printer, and then you can download it from the app store. It's not like a regular app which would benefit from an increase in users by coming pre-installed.
Oh and I really hate the fact that they pre-installed Instagram also.
Dropbox, Evernote, Flipboard no shortage of rubbish pre-installed........
Titanium Backup is your best friend! Freeze - make sure no issues - remove.

Question about rooted phone and bloatware

So I rooted my phone and it works great. I started using system apps uninstaller and another app to remove system apps that were safe to uninstall and the phone started acting slow and weird. Is there any SUCCESFUL way to uninstall this without the custom rom (because of early stage). Peace and blessings!
why not just disable them using something like Package Disabler ? It's worked amazing for me.

Around the S4 apps started getting way more integrated. It wasn't just Samsung doing it with Touchwiz. It's gone way deeper these days. I would love to debloat and get rid of so much, but I'm honestly too old to spend an entire night fixing things, much less like 3 days. I just disable in stock. These webs of playing nice between companies of sharing content has created a web that root can break now. I do like being able to share things through apps more cleanly now, though.
