i was wondering, will it couse problem in the future if i simply delete the empty folders (i highlited them bold and red) from my microsd ?
and what about the folders that i highlited bold and blue, will it couse problem in the future if i delete them too ?
Those folders are created by apps and android system.
And you can easly delete those empti folders.
If some apps or android itself needs some folder after deleting...they automaticly makes new folders.

thx, i just wanna make sure it's ok to delete them
I really wish Android developers would get their act together and stop spraying junk all over my SD card. It makes it really confusing to navigate. Google should perhaps help here by making it more obvious where devs are supposed to put their apps and data by giving the directories better names.

Simply copy the contents of your SD to your computer, which everyone should do by way of a backup anyway, delete everything you don't have a clue what it's for and keep pictures, media etc, wipe the card and put it back in the phone, any needed folders will be recreated by any programs that need them as and when you open whatever app. Obviously if you have scripts that run at boot put them back on before putting the card back in the phone.
Job done.

Is there any way to stop the Droid X gallery from automatically scanning for new pictures/videos?
I'll second this, or at least a way to specify what folders to scan. Mine picks up random cached files on the phone.

Had same problem on my Captivate phone , for whatever reason one day it just decided to put bunch of files from system directory , files it can't even display, it was from bootanimation.
The only way to fix it that i found on my own was to -> root -> get write permission for system -> and create .nomedia file.

correct
create a file called .nomedia
and place it in any folder you don't want gallery to look in. as stated if you want to put that file anywhere that is locked down you need to root first.
So I have my EVO mounted and while viewing the root of the SD card I hit <Ctrl>H to show hidden files and then go to .Trash-1000 and all of the files that I thought I had deleted from the music folder are in this folder.
Any info on how to get rid of these files? Even if I try to re-select them and delete they disappear for 1 sec then return... They are .flac files and are very large, so I need them gone.
What is the proper way to delete files directly from folders?
What computer are you using with your phone? '.Trashes' is the name Macintosh uses for the un-emptied trash folders. I imagine similar processes are used by other OSes. To empty it simply requires emptying the Trash (or Recycle Bin) from Finder or the like. You can also use any file browser when the phone isn't mounted to delete that folder directly.

By default on Ubuntu (and other distros with GNOME), pressing delete just puts files in a trash folder. In the file browser you'll have to "Empty Trash" to delete them.
If you want to skip sending them to the Trash in the first place, press "Shift-Delete"
I Usually delete that entire folder.

Requirements:
- Rooted SGA
- File Explorer with Root permission (i'm using File Expert)
NOTE: I was only successful in moving apps/games without 'lib' linked to them
0. Move App from SD to Phone memory (or install to Phone Memory)
1. Open File Expert
2. Menu > More > Mount > Read/Write
3. Go to directory /data/app/<app name>.apk then copy file
4. Go to directory /system/app , then paste the <app name>.apk file
5. Look for the file (usually com.<source>.<app>.apk), long press on it to open a pop-up menu, select 'File Operation' then 'Permission', tick all check boxes in the 'Read' column then 'Apply'
6. Delete /data/app/<app name>.apk
7. Delete /data/dalvik-cache contents
8. restart phone
How to free some memory space from /system
1. go to /system/T9DB delete languages that you do not need phonepad_XX.kdb, qwerty_XX.kdb, Samsung_400_XXubUN_xt9.kdb. Where 'XX' is the language indicator (i.e. en - english) (i have deleted all extra languages aside from 'en' and free upa around 4MB)
2. Delete unwanted ringtones, notification tones. Or you can move those that you dont like in SDcard by creating folder name 'media'(and sub folders like those on system on the root of the phone.
3. Delete unwanted bloatwares in /system/app
So far these are the files that are safe to delete.
[07-29-2011] Update
1. Was able to move Ninjump to /system/app and libninjump.so to /system/lib, game works (not successful on Angry Birds though)
Which mean that the apps which can only be installed in Internal can be moved to SD?
letsurock, you can do it using titanium backup app.
YES. titanium backup more safe
avoid mistaken with titanium backup
At attachment is table of apps which can be deleted from system/app folder without brick your phone...

I'm not sure about this one. There is a file /system/csc/others.xml , which contain settings about input method . You can see there "<inputlist>" languages that can be selected. I think if you find a way to edit the XML file properly you can add your language so that it can be selected in one of the input method you select.

Working...
Copied phonepad, qwerty, and ldb file for desired language or languages to /system/T9DB, than change permissions like other files to rw-r--r--, and than edited /csc/others.xml file, and added two letters code for new added languages... restart and all working, I have my missing keyboard and T9 suggestions...
Frndz.... In DCIM folder .thumbnail create atoumatically.... I dont use Gallery 3D. So i dont need this btw it eats upto 100+ mb in my sd card.. when i delete it,it creates atoumatically.. so i want to delete it parmanently... is there any way???
I'm guessing the Gallery3D app is made to do that upon start up. Only way I personally see around it is to modify it and change some actions it does.
Remove that folder n then create new file from root explorer with name .thumbnails (make a file not folder) I did it n it cannot create a folder thumbnail automatically

As title states, to access the obb folder, do I need to be rooted?
no you dont need to be rooted.
I dnt see the obb folder inside the Android folder.. its normally
Android > obb
what file manager are you using? Are you checking for the obb folder on the memory card or internal memory? What game/app are you trying to install that you need the obb folder?
S7 built-in file manager... and of course internal memory...
hmm it should be available by default try creating the folder and placing whatever game/app you want in side it.
doesnt seem to work... tried a few times with different app... just FCs
Out of interest, If you do not see it, You may not have an application thats created Obb.
This folder is not created unless a package is stored in here.
you can create it manually via file manager / file browser
(If you create it manually, there is every chance you need to set the permissions and assign it a group)
obb is owned by media_rw (Group id 1023)
The permissions on this folder are:
rwxrwx--- OR 0770 (Owner and Group Full read Write Execute)
If the folder exists and is hidden, the application will not allow you to create the folder.
Delete the folder and download one of the following from the store:
This should create the OBB folder
StarKnight
Brain it on
The Room 3
Thumb drift
Ilttle Drew
Odyssey
(Just some packages i have in Obb)

Im not rooted so I cant check/change permissions.. But I did install the thumb drift game and the OBB file showed up.. still just getting FCs
I'm using an s5 on RR 7.1.2 and I can't access obb. It's there but the folders inside are empty. And I can not move files into the directory.... I don't know why.
