Green/yellow flash on lock screen [BM ICS mix v3 + GLaDOS Kernel] - Nexus S General

I have this problem when i lock the screen.. it started when I installed franco.Kernel [with kwiboo ICS rom], but after flashing BM ICS rom and a new kernel GLaDOS it's still there.. : /
Any help?

In the voodoo app. Reset all the color settings

I turned screen on animation and it didn't do it again. Very weird.

You mean "Voodoo Control" from the market?
I reset everything in the color profile but i still get a flash.. not a green/yellowish, the clock and the "lock circle" flash..
And now the colors sucks. xD

Where can i find it?
[noob here]

I'm on BM ICS Mix v4 with franco kernel.. I have exactly the same problem.. Messing with Voodoo App didn' help.. Flashing Glados kernel didn't help..

Same thing happen on Matr1x?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App

im sure everyone has this bug, but i just turned off window animations in spare parts for now, its much less noticable

Is this problem solved? I'm still getting it (the screen flash on screen off) with glados 2.4 nexus s 9020t..

Anyone know?

I get it while screen off, not on.
On neopolitan + glados 2.4

Im on crossbones and glados and it does the same thing.

I was having it too with GlaDOS. Just download Voodoo Control, go to Screen v1 gamma offset colors and set everything to 0.

ya just reset it to default 2.3.3

juliano + sceptor: The screen flash improves and happens less frequently after setting voodoo back to default 2.3.3 but it still happens. Also, if you use a live wallpaper, the greenish flash gets worse when turning off the phone (and yes, sometimes on). So with 2.3.3 default voodoo and a static wallpaper, I only get the flash 1 out of 5 times maybe...
But still.. anyone NEVER get that screen flash? I'm about to try official, signed google ics (instead of drewgaren ics) and then rooting and using glados 2.4 again.. But if anyone has already done that, please share your experience...
How can we get rid of that screen flash?

I was just playing with the stock ICS ROM earlier, not using any custom kernel or anything, and the screen started to exhibit the "green flash" after installing the Voodoo Sound drivers.
This really doesn't seem like it makes any sense at all, because this was the stock Android 4.0.3 kernel. It has no Voodoo Color support whatsoever. But up until I patched in the Voodoo Sound drivers, there was no flash.
After patching Voodoo Sound, green flash.

I have had the screen off flash on every ics rom / kernel I have used, u get the screen off animation, screen goes black, then I get a flash of what was displayed on screen before I hit the power button. This is with and without voodoo on my i9023. It happens a lot less with the kernel listed in my sig (speedy 2), but it is still present. Its very annoying and looks crap!

Link to vid of screen off bug:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRub7rhwiZ0&feature=youtu.be

I noticed when I set the screen RGB multipliers /gamma to very low values the green flash occur during screen on & off animation, once I set it back to default or higher values the screen greenish flash goes away.

NO LED on Nexus S from Sprint

My wife got the nexus S from sprint the other day and her first complaint is that there is no LED for notifications ...
is there any hack or application that would maybe make the capacitive buttons on the bottom flash for notifications?
There's an app called Backlight Notification that has been tested on I9020T, I9020A and I9023. I don't know if it works on the Sprint variant of the Nexus S 4G. It does require root and a custom kernel.

BLN is supposed to be the alternative for LED however, I can't get it to work with the Sprint Nexus S. @iTouch you need to be on a kernal that supports BLN

I like noLED on my NS4G, except that the backlight on that menu buttons stays on while there is a notification. And i feel like its eating the battery a bit.

BLN is Backlight Notification. Search it in the market. I rooted and flashed Netarchy kernel. It supports BLN as well as Voodoo which made the colors on the Super AMOLED screen 10000 times better.
wow ... BLN is exactly what i was looking for ... just have to get wife to allow me to root and put on stable new kernel ...

are there threads up for rooting the new Model: SPH-D720 (Nexus S 4G)
Compatibility: Sprint? i see many threads on the different versions, GSM

Noled doesn't need root or custom setup. Play around with the settings, you will find that it will give you more information than just a led would. It's especially cool to enable battery percent while charging. You never have to wake up the phone to know the progress. There are quite a few things it does that would be a waste for me to type it all out. After you get all the settings the way you like it, set it for start at boot then reboot the phone and you're good to go!

Are you using netarchy cfs?
Update: I read in the kernal thread that the test notification for BLN doesn't work -that is why I thought it wasn't working. I'll test it out now.
Update 2: I bought the Pro version and I can't get BLN to work with the BFS or CFS kernal. I am texting myself and it doesn't work. Any ideas??

Voodoo controls sound and screen settings (gamma, rgb multipliers).
I ran BLN on both CFS and BFS. I'm on CFS now because I think it's more stable (Overclocked to 1.2ghz with smartass set). Test notification DOES NOT WORK. You have to enable BLN blinking or whatever it says and then I unchecked when it starts and stops and set the blink rate to what I wanted to.
Had my phone for 2 days now and I'm already feeling like I can do this in my sleep! Let me know if you need help.

It is definitely not working for me. I tried both the CFS and BFS kernal. I adjusted the blink rate and activated the service. I shut off the start/stop time.
Is it supposed to activate once a sms/gmail comes in?

Yes. What do you have the blink on and blink off seconds at? I did Blink on 250 milliseconds and blink off 2 seconds. Turn on and turn off both unchecked.

I had it set to the default 1 sec on and off. I changed it to your settings and it still doesn't work. There must be something else going on.
Is there anywhere I have to select the apps that it is monitoring?
Nope, the only thing I had to enable was to blink for missed calls.

[ICS] Fix for screen flicker issue

Hi.. I think I've found a working solution to this annoyance...
1) turn off auto brightness
2) manually adjust it to the lowest value
3) restart the phone
the flicker should be gone!
My setup:
Nexus S (T) 4.0.3 Stock
Static wallpaper
PIN code lock screen
If you can live with the 'dim' screen, you should be happy now just like me. Hope an official fix will land soon.
Doesn't work on mine, tried before, screen still flickers.

One of the sources for screen flicker is increased screen hz , combined with improper voodoo color configs and also some CPU govs cause it also

Turning. Off auto brightness only resolves the green screen not the flicker when taking phone out of standby
Also no need to reboot.
Its color driver for voodoo with ICS
People here said supercurio working on voodoo color 2
Temp solution up your gamma settings with voodoo color plus or get a kernel that has "colorfix" gamma setting is locked at setting
the gamma setting required to get rid of this problem is too high for my taste
i can live with the millisecond flicker for all around better colors doesn't bother me its not going to damage anything
gamma too high makes colors less vibrant.
sorry guys... false alarm. apparently i jumped to the conclusion too early. the problem is back again since this morning
ps: i was running unrooted stock 4.0.3 but thanks for the technical details guys. it helped me understand what's actually happening under the hood. cheers!
matrix kernel 14.5 with lag free gov has eliminated this problem almost completely for me.
Also doesn't work on mine.

Doesn't work, running AOSP+ rom with Speedy.
Don't think its a voodoo issue as it happens on stock rom / kernel.

if voodoo was removed completely from his kernels then we wouldn't be able to adjust any color setting in voodoo app not to mention the the settings wouldn't even be available
and that's not the case with both kernel version
like i said before lowering gamma will cause green flicker
Color fix kernel doesn't allow gamma adjustment thus no more green flicker granted not an actual fix but it is for his kernel and saves him from headaches from users who don't know how to troubleshoot themselves
The other color kernel gamma and RGB can be adjusted but expect green flicker when lowing gamma
actually there are 2 things ... one is the green flicker which is experienced when using Voodoo colors with low Gamma and another is just a quick flash of the screen when locking the phone i've seen it on my all stock ics too it happens sometimes not always just a split second after locking the device
removed my comment
ill take your word if its intermitting can be tricky to reproduce i didn't give enough time
haven't used stock for while that's why i had to test again so maybe it did before just don't remember

Yeah, on SG's kernel I've got no green flash but I do get the slight flicker. It doesn't bother me like the green does though. Its really brief and since I use an all black background and keep the brightness low I hardly can notice it.

Green screen

Hi, some time my sgs display did shade the green. Maybe he fall , but slightly. 2-3 day after, I ulocked my phone then i saw green screen. Then i need only to hit the screen and the colors came back again, but the next block = green screen. This is not voodoo colors wine , i flashed from the official rom to various others. Not resulted in success. The phone is not under warranty so I can only repair it yourself. Has anyone already had such a problem, what to do in this situation? Is it only remains for me to replace the whole panel, but rather it is no longer viable. Thanks in advance!
In voodoo colors app, only green doing something , red and blue doing nothing.

Try changing the kernel
I suggest flashing a kernel without Voodoo Color support. A good and stable one is Midnight kernel. I use it for weeks now and I am really impressed about smoothness and stabilty.
There are versions for ICS and gingerbread. But development for gingerbread isn't active at the moment.
Yeah it sounds like kernel related.
It happens even with full stock Samsung?
I also saw green screen for a second after waking up my phone. Resolved by changing governor in NSTools (experienced green with luzactive governor, now I am on smartassv2 and the problem has gone)

Does this happen on all ROMs? Try testing it with the stock factory image. You may very well have a faulty screen, if your issue persists with stock image then you might want to RMA, or stick it out and see if 4.2.2 will fix your issuse which it may very well not. Good luck.

Nexus 4 Lockscreen Lag

I've had this issue with lag on the Nexus 4 lockscreen for quite a while.
The problem is that occasionally when I go to the unlock the phone, I press the lock, but the lock will freeze. Sometimes I have to turn the screen off, and turn back on a couple of times before I can unlock the phone.
I've had this issue running CM10.1 and stock rooted android 4.2.2. I've tried doing a complete wipe and re-flashing everything.
Has anyone else had this issue? I've asked a couple of people I know who have Nexus 4's and none of them have had this problem.
Did I do something wrong, is this a common issue, or this an issue with my phone?

I also get this occasionally from time to time. I honestly have no clue what it could be, since the screen is completely dry as are my fingers when it happens. Its a minor bug so it doesn't bother me that much

Trying this out now. I especially liked how it told me my system was corrupted once it finished flashing...
First thing I've noticed is that the colour is a lot different. Do I need to play with any settings, or do I only need to have the kernel installed?
Also how often do updates come out?
Messing with the settings is totally up to you. It works great "right out of the box." I don't like the stock color settings, I use trickster mod to change them to rgb 255, 255, 255 and everything else at 0 except saturation and blacks all the way up. This kernel is underclocked to 1026mhz by default, I set it to stock clock speeds. It's also undervolted by default so if you are having stability problems, try bumping up the voltage on all steps by 25mv. Updates come out pretty often, prolly a few times a month.

The colours bothered me so I'm trying the latest franco nightly. It seems to be at the stock clock speed, no weird colours, and it makes the haptic feedback when unlocking feel more like the GNex.
I'm still having this issue with franco kernel. I've been looking around a bit and people seem to say this is related to auto brightness. I'm going to turn auto brightness off for a bit and see if it still happens.
Also, does anyone know if using a 3rd party app for auto brightness would make any difference?
Okay, turns out auto brightness wasn't the issue. Still getting lockscreen lag. Help please.
If I put 5 fingers on the screen (when the screen is off), then press the lock button, when the screen comes on it will be completely unresponsive, some of the time. I'm not always able to replicate this.
for me, some releases of Franco have lockscreen lag, some don`t, try flashing the M2 or other post r121 builds, they are all great performers and maybe you`ll get lucky with one.
if ur using paranoid android, then its a stability issue i guesa cause the same thing used to happen with me...... or else try franco kernel... or update franco kernel if ur using franco, cause an older version had the lockscreen bug, which is now fixed!!!

How does the replacement process work?
If I save a nandroid backup of my phone, can I just unlock it and restore from there?
Flash the reset kernel from _motley 's kernel thread, it replaces a lot of files that might of got changed via various other kernel flashes with stock ones.
the one that causes a lot of lock screen lag is the /system/lib/hw/power.msm8960.so file

I actually just got an RMA for my phone, because of this issue and that the back glass panel is a little loose and makes creaking noises. When I send the phone back to google, if I follow all the steps here and lock the bootloader, it should be fine to send back to them?
Google's RMA process was amazing. Took me all of 10 minutes. They're shipping a new one in 3-5 days, and they pay for the return shipping of my old device. The replacement is brand-new, not a refurbished device. My dad's iPhone 4S had a bunch of issues and he would have to book an appointment at the Apple store, which happens to be an hour away, and they would only replace his device with a refurbished one.
