Titanium backup - Freeze-able apps - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hello all.
I have just bought titanium backuo to be able to freeze the launcher that i do not use in the hopes of extending my battery life.
However furthur reading seems to tell me that many more things can be frozen. I dont know if there is an improvement, i dont even knoe if it actually is running.
But my point is i would like to create a list of apps that are freeze-able.
I have tw launcher frozen
Live wallpaper
Most of the bluetooth things
And my phone is still functioning well.
So please add on to my list of freeze-able apps.

I frozen the following.. I am monitoring any side effects
-Adservice
-AP Mobile
-Buddies Now
- Email (coz I don't use it and it is always running in the background)
- Gallery (I don't use it and it is always running in the background)
- Maps (I don't use it and it is always running in the background)
- Market Updater (i hate the new market)
- Readers hub
- Social hub
- Yahoo finance
- Zinio

Here is a list provided by pulser_g2 from the Samsung Galaxy S2 forum:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...SENVeXlqUm5vV0E&single=true&gid=0&output=html
I think that the Note should be pretty similar, take care though and don't blame anyone else if anything goes wrong!!

Root App Remover. It will mark apps that can't be removed/freezed with red text, so you can't accidentaly remove important apps like phone.apk, settings.apk etc.

If i remove those like Social hub, Readers Hub, Samsung App Manager...etc. Can re-install it if needed? If can, how to re-install?
Thanks in advance

Supposing you rooted, just reflash the system partition. Your fone will look as bloated again as on the first day

If you freeze using Titanium Pro, then backup the "frozen" apps, you will have them available to "unfreeze" and restore. I suggest you freeze and then check all is OK before you uninstall them...

Widgets!

Anybody know of a program that will restore widgets to their respectful place after a wipe, or upgrade. Kinda getting tired of placing each and every widget each time I wipe. Thanks in advanced.

Titanium Backup will restore your apps and settings ....but the only way I know how to restore your widget setup is via nandroid backup
The Desktop system app contains your homescreen setup. Caution when restoring system apps though.

Desktop systems app? Where can I find it? And can you elaborate on being "careful" restoring. Thanks.

There is no way to really, consistently, do what you're asking, thanks to the limitations of the Android system.
Maybe someone could figure out a way to export "scenes" to the SD card then you could just save your scene, flash a new sense rom and have everything back how you had it.
I'm just brainstorming, I have no clue if "scenes" can be exported
MyBackup Pro sort of does it. It has a function specifically for restoring homescreens but does not work perfectly.

If you use adw it can backup your desktop configuration. That's what I do.

There's a system app named HTC SENSE: DESKTOP. It stores your desktop config. Restoring system apps from one rom to another can cause issues. I'm not sure of specific issues cuz I usually only restore WiFi access points.

I use this cool thing called pen and paper. It lets you write down where everything is on the home screen. Then when you restore, you can look at the "paper" part, to figure out where everything goes. Isn't that cool?

Or you could take a screenshot of each screen then put those on your computer and look at them while you're restoring your screens. None of this "paper" business... whatever "paper" means.

+1 I use shoot me before I wipe for all screens, but it is still a pain
You can't. Just remember where your widgets are or take screens if you really have that many.
Or take a screenshot of each home screen? If rooted, of course.
Just noticed someone mentioned this idea already.

I think it's supposed to be in the market, but I haven't been able to find it.
+1 for screenshots though
I found out by accident that if I back up all apps and data with Titanium Backup and then flash whatever... when I restore with Titanium my apps come back but I also discovered that when I power off and then power back on my previous personal scene and apps and widgets all return to where I had them.
I think that is what is being asked.

Well I don't know if it matters - as long as you've got any of the mentioned apps/widgets etc. installed you can remove them without turning your phone into a slimmed down brick
But my particular phone is an International/Global LT15i
Updating the first post wil be handy, so you don't have to search in this thread
also maybe handy to know what you can't remove.
You can also remove: HDMI
and don't remove "infinite view" this will break the contact view.

[Q] Why is this happening and is there a way to fix it?

Okay so whenever I'm done texting or have to close an app to go back to my home screen all of the apps and widgets don't show up and I have wait for them to reload again.. it gets annoying cause this happens about 90% of the time I close an app. Is there a way to fix this thing or preventing from happening? >.<

For some reason, you have an app that is running that is taking enough cache memory that it is causing TW to close, anytime you are leaving it, instead of staying in memory. This is causing a 'respawn' (everything has to reload.). You have 2 choices here.
1. Figure out what app, or apps are running that you don't need, and shut them down.
2. switch to a lighter launcher. On the surface, zeam and adw are two of the lightest out there, but I've had the best luck in low memory situations with go launcher, myself.
In order to find which apps are doing this, my recommendation is to get rom toolbox (free is fine), and look in the 'auto start manager'. I'm sure there are several apps that do the same thing, but RTb is my preference. Once you get into that section, look at the list of what is starting on boot, and disable the ones you don't need. This won't make the app useless, but it will keep it from running in the background until you open it yourself.

Well that worked. Thank you sir.
A little off the main topic but speaking of rom toolbox or Tibu for that matter, anytime I use them to either, say, freeze or uninstall anything , both apps just sit there with box showing me there uninstalling or freezing. Only way to stop is to go into manage apps and stop them but they end up doing what wanted to do. Anyone else have this happen, any fix, annoying if anything.

I know exactly what you mean. I've been occasionally having the same problem with Titanium Backup. It doesn't happen every time, but enough lately that I've noticed it. Not sure of any fix, but I'll post if I find one. I guess it's not that big of a problem considering it ultimately uninstalls/freezes whatever it's supposed to, but it sure is annoying.

For rooted users and non-rooted users, but rooted users have the advantage here as they can use 3rd party apps like bloat freezers and titanium backup.
I don't recommend deleting system apps permanently from the system due to the fact that if you accidentally uninstal an important system app it could create system force closes ect.. But if you freeze the apps you don't want then you can always de-freeze them whenever you want and it's very safe and could be handy at times.
For root users i recommend titanium backup to freeze and De-Freeze applications
For non-root users > Just go to settings>Application Manager>All ( select the app you want and Select "Disable") , this is also like freezing apps using titanium backup but the apps you can freeze are limited due to the fact that you don't have root permission but still you can freeze more than 70% of the apps to free some ram and save some battery

Thanks for a detail thread, but why are you saying the music.apk(music player) is a bloatware? Rest all at the list are fine. But if all the 'allshare' files are removed, then 'screen mirroring' (on n3 moded rom) will not work. Could you please add some more explanation about removing which file may stop other things to work?

I wasn't talking about comparison. I meant by being "safer". There's gonna be many who would just freeze/disable all these and flood various threads that "this app/feature is not working" or "that stopped working" like WiFi Direct, DLNA, Email, Weather, etc. I meant by that.

ofc not, my point is, if your app is frozen, you can defrost if you need to use it, unlike removing your app, which is totally removed permanently. i think you can clearly understand now lol

Thank you so much again for the effort.
Regards.

Well for your 1st point
not everyone use the stock Music player on their devices right .. including me .. and that's the reason why i named music.apk as a bloat so u can keep it freezed where it won't run in background as it does
And the all share files and screen mirror, not everyone use those features also right? i mean it's not like we use those features daily. so why give ram to that when we can just keep it frozen and de-freeze it when we actually use it ?
Same goes with wifi direct if u ask me
just de-freeze it when you wnna use it so that way we have more ram and can get a good battery life ultimately
it doesn't take much time to defreeze few apps right so it's a small price to pay in order to get a good battery life with more free ram.
well it might be just the way i see it. but it's working pretty good for me.. hope it does for you all .. that's why i shared this

Thx mate.
Also removing all share apps will cause wifi direct not to work

As i replied to nitrol, we don't use wifi direct like every day and that's why i said it's ok to freeze it to get some more Juice
just de-freeze it when u wanna wifi direct and that's it .. it costs some time but that's worth it i guess when compared with the battery an ram u save . that's just the way i see i guess

Thanks,...and not only removing bloatwares/greenifying some apps, some more guidelines should be added, like-
- turn motion off
- display brightness always auto
- use blackish/dark wallpaper
- sync always off, turn on when needed
- don't use vibration
- don't clear memory/ram from task manager
- do battery calibration in proper way after flashing a rom
- avoid widgets, cause every widget has service(s) always running in background
...some more, can't remember right now.
And it should be universal, recommendation for specific rom is contradictory with the purpose of the thread.
Regards.

Hi,
Thanks for guide and help but I wonder what usability of device will be left if all these apps are frozen. I guess my approach is little better (you may check my signature)

don't freeze everything i've mentioned here, just freeze what you don't use. You can guess what app you're freezing when you read the name , if you don't know what the app is when you read the name it's just a system fine that we don't use or don't need so just freeze and see what happens but i assure no force closes or any other errors will come, but if any errors pop .. just de-freeze the frozen apps and see. You will get a good battery life and more free ram after freezing these apps.

ofc not, my point is, if your app is frozen, you can defrost if you need to use it, unlike removing your app, which is totally removed permanently. i think you can clearly understand now lol

TitaniumBackup shuts the app down turning it off i don't know, let's see what some one says first before you do it. Me I turn it off, but what I really wanna do is disable them by permissions so when I want to jump I'll just restore them.
