Hello EPIC users (my second family) Two EVO gurus Carhauler1969 and Ropadope Have spent countless hours creating a simple Memory tweak for the EVO. I now share its goodness with you. I have tested it on my Wifes EPIC and have found it to very smooth and extremly easy to apply This is not my work! So please enjoy and give credit where credit is due.

No discredit to v6 or zepplinrox His work and assistance is amazing!
Sent from the EVO I had implanted in my skull
Tryin this out cuz I didnt put v6 back on my epic after changing ROMs so whet the heck lets see how it is

I wish someone would put up a sticky on memory management. I've seen a lot of competing information about what tweaks work and whether or not they have any substantial effect on speed and reliability. Some say that stock GB does fine, others swear by the adrenaline or V6 tweaks, and now we add another suitor to the mix. Any chance someone with a good understanding of the mechanics would be willing to put something definitive together for the community?
I see more free ram when I use them but don't notice any real difference when using the phone.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I noticed a major jump in quadrant scores vs. stock, the reason I use v6 and adrenaline is because they work in conjunction, and it leads to an amazing phone. I am sure this would work well, but I don't want to wipe out my init.d scripts I already have, and not sure if it would work with 3g supercharger either... and that is a must for me. Thanks for the post though.
Carhauler and ropodope updated their tweak check it out if you haven't yet. no messing with scripts just plain easy! my wifes epic is smoother than melted butter she hated that i wanted to root her phone but now she is grateful. She is running toadlifes CLEANGB build 16 with go launcher and has no lag... AT ALL..
ok, so where do you find the link to download this memory tweak?
where can i find the download link for car-o-dopes memory tweak for the epic?
I used to run v6 until I saw several forced reboots. Since then I've stuck with stock mem management. Not enough of a benifit as any time gained through the tweaks was lost 10 fold waiting for the phone to boot up a couple times.
I do use the sd card tweaks and it does seem to help slightly.

There is no download just two apps from the market if you dont already have them... This tweak was meant for EVO but i have tested it on my wife epic with very impressive results just subscribe to the thread and follow the super easy instructions.

I just tried this. The following instruction from the guide regarding the use of System Tuner says: "Click "tweaks", select SD Cards, change your io scheduler from bfq to deadline, click boot settings, select Re-apply SD tweak and select init.d script. exit system tuner."
I found a couple of differences when I followed their instructions. When I got to the System Tweaks page, my IO Scheduler was already set at "Deadline". Then, when I clicked on "Root Settings", then selected "Re-Apply SD Tweak", I was given only two choices: "Disabled" and "On boot completed". There was no option for "init.d script". So I could not complete the process.
I followed the guide to the letter (and picture). What did I do wrong? I'm currently running the GB update with Nubernel's Kernel (Firmware version: nubernel - 2.6.35_v0.0.1. Baseband version: S700.0.5S.EI22. Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-nubernel+)

HOW THIS WORKS (Stolen from RyanZA)
Creates a VIRTUAL EXT2 or 4 filesystem inside the stock RFS filesystem on the internal SD card, with a 4KB block size. This means that this lag fix creates a buffer between the real filesystem and the android system. This buffer should reduce the amount of disk I/O required for all operations by utilizing EXT2 buffering, as well as not writing file access times to disk, etc.
Since the inception of this concept there have been a few different versions of the Lagfix, I'll describe them a bit below:
Tayutama's Update.zip method (recommended)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765820
- Tested extensively, this new version actually does all of the file movement while the phone is still booting so the chances of your data and apps disappearing, or corrupting is massively diminished. This Lagfix can be applied in both EXT2 and EXT4 flavors and both perform amazingly! This fix also corrects the Captivate gps logging problem! Make sure you install the "with root" version if you aren't rooted, and the "without root" version if you are or the fix may fail! DO NOT INSTALL USING ROM MANAGER!
Is EXT2 for me?
If you want your Quadrant scores to be bloated beyond belief and don't care if your data spontaneously combusts (Results may vary). Alternatively if you're worried about your NAND wear leveling not being able to handle the strain of EXT4 journaling.
Okay EXT2 is scary, how about EXT4?
You can't afford for your things to get corrupted? Weirdo. Real world performance between EXT4 and EXT2 is barely noticeable if at all, for the everyman this is probably your best bet.
The RyanZA Oneclick Lag Fix APK
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=760571
This fix is marketed to people who aren't comfortable with scripting! It's not designed to compete directly with the other lag fixes out there, but if you're a self proclaimed "noob" this is probably the route for you!
The RyanZA Oneclick Lag Fix V2-3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751864
This is the lag fix that a lot of you will be coming from if you have one already (Exceptions would be SRE users) and the origin of most of the lag fixes used currently. This lag fix is mostly the same as Tayutama's new version with three exceptions: A) EXT2 is the only supported file system B) EXT data file is created and data is moved while the OS is running so it's a tad riskier C) It moves the data from /data/app into the virtual FS.
GENERAL THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
PEOPLE WHO ARE USING JH2 OR JH3 AND A MARKET FIX THAT SPOOFS YOUR BUILD.PROP TO JF6 SHOULD MANUALLY DISABLE GPS LOGGING!! IF YOU DO NOT YOUR PHONE WILL FILL UP WITH LOGS AND DISABLE APP INSTALLS/SMS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7650658&postcount=312
As with anything on XDA there's a chance things you do here could harm your device, whether or not creating a file system within RFS will cause your hardware to die prematurely is up for debate, it's suggested that you educate yourself on what you're doing to your hardware before you do it!
Most fixes of any kind will perform best from a clean odin flash, though the most recent release of Tayutama's fixed is targeted at the audience who has a ton of apps installed it comes with NO GUARANTEES, myself and other users have spent a good amount of time testing out different revisions of these scripts to decrease the likelihood of cataclysmic data loss, but your mileage may vary.
If you have any questions or anything feel free to post in this thread, we'll do our best to help you along!
Credits:
Thanks to ykk_five for being brave enough to goof with the file system enough to figure out the loop trick in the first place!
Thanks to RyanZA for coming up with the initial fix that stuck past reboot and his continual development for the SGS
Thanks to Tayutama for his tireless dedication to making sure this fix works as best it can, even with all the Captivate specific curveballs
Many thanks as well to the people besides myself who have been brave enough to load these experimental builds onto their phones (A moment of silence for all the apps who lost their lives in the pursuit of a snappier SGS)

You can still run that one if you're satisfied with it Though I've found this to be a bit faster due to the buffering.
The other side of this is that it can function with a stock kernel with no flashing required but it *does* use your internal storage- so if you're afraid of that then keep on truckin with the external method

Our Devs are so fun.
So I just flashed a JH3 using Odin and everything is great.
So I download Tayutama's 2.3.1 lagfix. Flashed it successfully.
But when I try to run SL4A and Run the LagFix_Ext2.sh I get an error:
"The application SL4A has stopped unexpectedly. and i have to force close it.
Any suggestions?

I found this and its getting alot of praise across the forum and i wonder if anyone tried it with our Tab. I installed and it seem to have effect. Scrolling between screens seems much smoother. But there is alot of options and diffrent variation of tweaks to choose from, i installed number 9. i read in SGS2 forum about this and someone used number 9 and it was good for him, we have the same amount of memory so i thougt i would try it. heres the link to original thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276 . It seems to a good tweak because rom makers in SGS2 are puting it in there builds by default and it can by applied to any android device.

Good, I'm running v8 also with option 9 installed. Been running it the whole day and its a little better. But this device is still laggy, imrunning the latest Task650 rom with Pershoot OC kernel.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Nick try option 8, have got pershoot kernel oc 1.4 - 312 performance. Make sure you reboot after runing the script. It seems to be smoother.
Update : I confirm this script to be the real deal. Am using the above settings and its buttery smooth. A using option 8 in the settings.

Post the battery backup SCREENSHOTS... Bcoz ACE sucks out battery to the core... So how much hour u got the backup??
I read here on XDA that Lagree v3 8.5 and turbo boost were partially in conflict and that the cause of major problems were attributable to Lagfree that the third version had some problems (in fact it has been granted an alternative version to solve problems) .

I forgot to take the screenshot of my battery stats. Currently my SGA is fully charged but I remember it was 2d 15h 54m and with 18% battery remaining. I will definitely post screenshots soon. From now will not charge my SGA for atleast 15% remaining!!

Well I am personally using this ROM and had no problem till now. I too herd about these bugs but never found personally so added them. I will definitely take a look on the users using this ROM and their opinion on the same. If they find it buggy then will definitely change in upcoming version/update!
Why is it green in battery solve it bro I think a bug
Btw nice preserved for future use

LagfreeV3 is broken so never loads completely, all you are doing is wasting startup time using it. TB 8.5 is better written, but can install a broken version of sqlite3, breaking the command-line sqlite3 engine, so make sure you don't use the cwm zip but manually just install the scripts. LagfreeV3 has been fixed and optimised by g_BonE -- use that version if you are still desperate to put that script at least, but honestly if you take pride in your work, don't include broken scripts in your ROM (lots of ROM cookers here just include them because everyone else does, even though they are broken!)...

nope! it's not a bug. Actually when you get connected to internet via wifi/packet data the signal bars turns into blue to show the connectivity means you are connected successfully to the internet! I think it's the nice thing though!

Thanks a lot mate. I just want to know what exactly v3 gives errors? Because it's my 3rd day on this ROM and still no bugs.. I do heard about it's a buggy but never had any experience. Your help is much appreciated. I will definitely update my ROM if I get to know what are the actual bugs. Waiting for your reply!
LagfreeV3 doesn't make your phone buggy, but it will make your phone slower, trying to start a script that never starts and loop all the time, lol

From my understanding, a lot of the fixes implemented in lagfree v3 were redundancies and placebos. Gbone took what was beneficial and hashed out the redundancies creating a script that did something. Afaik, his script had a few problems due to the amount of lines on it that could boot creating a boot loop. Haven't followed it much but that's what I got out of it.

LOL!! not standby actually but you can say it's what I use my phone daily. Attached latest screenshots. My phone is always connected to my wifi network. I do chat on sms, wats app. Do and attend some calls daily. Hardly play games (not more that half hour and yes this consumes lot battery). Maybe "deep sleep" is the key to save the battery. Well maybe in your point I am a less mobile user because don't know how much others use but the battery is sufficient for users like me. The screenshots shows 17h backup and still 60% battery remaining. So maybe I can expect another 15-16 hrs.

Adwait

Thanks for your suggestion .Well, Jusada's original is already a light weight. I listen to FM a lot and FM is most used feature in India, specially rural area where I live. So I have included FM in this ROM
Good work...

ROM version (I know it's just the first version, but for future reference...)

Ok so wiped everything twice like you said... Chose custom installation (the one where you don't have to reinstall the ROM for changing anything) and I chose devil kernel, stock theme, and the some apps. But I noticed that when I go to settings /about phone every thing there is from the rom I was running before this, like kernel and mod version.. I believe this ROM is based on slim but it has an aokp theme (the one I had before fishing this.) And if I go to system/xxxx everything there is also from the previous ROM I was running. but the ROM is very fast smooth and responsive. I came from simply aokp v6

Correct, this is a mod of SlimICS, hence TiramiSLIM. So...your issue with messaging FC'ing remains? And to clarify...what kernel and mod version show up in your current setup?
Also, what messaging app did you install? Inverted? Stock?

Glad it worked for you, and thanks for keeping the issue updated!
Thanks for porting this. I hope to see your thanks meter continue to go up. I know it more than doubled today!
A couple questions if you don't mind-
On the original post in the I9000 forums, they have some sweet themes. What is the best way to go about getting those? Are they available for the captivate?
I found in that forum that others are trying out different kernels. Have you experimented at all? It seems to me that the one that comes with it doesn't support overclock and BLN through NSTools.
EDIT: The latest version of Devil Kernel works for me so far.

thanks Zzmomo. Use update-me app for themes (instructions are in original thread). kernels can be flashed in aroma installer. Update me app probably has i9000 kernels...I'll check this out.
So yeah...I'll have to release an update to the ROM to fix the update me app for the captivate. I'll probably also release an update.zip so current users don't have to download the whole ROM again.

joshlevinson this is a very nice rom. works like a charm !!! thank you so much for this!
I was messing around a bit and tried putting galaxy s3 ui sound instead of the regular ones. I replaced them using Root explorer and changed all the permissions to the right one and rebooted but it didn't work so I tried putting the default ones back but still didn't work... Any way I can get then back without having to reflash the ROM.. And if I do have to reflash it do I need to wipe or not
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
Did you replace the sounds in the aroma installer, or just by using root explorer? Please explain the process a bit more.

OK for replacing the file, I got them from team remics and I took system/media/audio/UI and replaced them with the ones from this rom. Set permissions and rebooted...
Then for the reflash process I wiped cache and dalvik cache , used modify me and selected devil, then replaced galaxy s3 and delete default sound, and selected some apps.. and rebooted but still no sound... so then I reflashed using default installation and then flashed again using modify me and all worked. Sorry for the trouble
