I got play/pause to work by editing the sec_jack.kl file on my phone, but I can't seem to get skipping back and forth to work. My headphones only have 1 button. Does anyone know what key maps I need to use? Edit: Got the Headset Controls app from the marketplace to work, but I'd prefer if I didn't need an app, and it doesn't always work.

Is there any way to remove the music controls from the screen lock? I would like to use my MTS while working out or mowing the lawn (keeping it in an arm band holder) but I end up pausing the music or changing songs if the power button gets hit.
Apparently the MTS is one of the only phones to offer this feature. I guess I'm from the old school but when I lock my phone I don't want to be able to do anything to it but unlock it (or answer it if it rings). Any ideas?
try another music pgrom from the market

I believe it can be downloaded via android market
Such a simple solution. And here I thought I might have to do something complicated like rework the slide-unlock screen. I'm a mongo.
Thanks for the replies.
Doubletwist and NWSPlayer, both work well as replacements for the built in media player.
Hello, I recently purchased a universal car dock off eBay and I would like to be able to use car dock mode with Pandora and possibly other configuration by only pressing one button. Basically it would turn on car dock mode, turn on bluetooth, gps, pandora, and whatever else I would like to open by just selecting the car preset. Then reverse it all when I leave my vehicle. Does anyone know of the best app to do all of this with the Mytouch 4G's car-dock mode?
Thanks much!
Google Car Home can launch whenever a particular BT device connects.

That's very cool! I just have the stock mytouch 4g rom and it works but I had to download the app off the net as the market showed nothing for me. Does anyone know if the hands free text messaging will work with this app as it does with the stock car dock app?
Thank you
Google Voice Search is very similar to the Genius Button app. Even better in some ways, like "listen to <artist>". However the Voice Dialer, started by the headset button, is dialing only.

I'm used to start and stop the music player with the headset button on all my former android phones. This does not work on the Atrix. When I press the button on the Atrix a query with only two voice command apps pops up. No choice to select the music player. I could start the music player with the voice command, but I cannot stop it. So I would prefer to start and stop the music by pressing the headsetbutton. Is there way to get it working on the Atrix?
Nobody knows a solution?

I believe PowerAmp from the market supports this if the stock player does not

For me, I changed /system/usr/keylayout/cpcap-key.kl -> key 226 to use MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE instead of headsethook. Unfortunately this does not allow you to pickup calls or end calls. Double press to skip to next track also doesn't work. Don't know if 226 is universal.
Headset buttons work great with Winamp on my Atrix...

Do you have a single button headset? I couldn't get a double press to work.
Sorry, I am using a stereo bluetooth with play-pause/call-answer/volume/track controls but it works great.
Winamp starts ans stops with the button, but then I can't pickup a call with the button. This issue seems to be a problem.

Thank you very much for sharing this.
I did it, and now the button works perfectly on PowerAMP.
PowerAMP has an option to skip to next track with double click and return to the previous one with a triple click.
Couldn't make it work before, because it invoked vlingo and voice commands, but now it works perfectly .

But are you now still able to pick up a call?
How do I change it to use media-play-pause instead of headset hook

No, not at all. Don't know why it worked for both features in the Captivate.
I have to use the phone to answer.
I wonder if there isn't a configuration file that includes what app is started when pressing the headset button. There must be file that says start the voicecommand apps. This should be edited to make the music player start. Then both, music and call pickup should work as on the Droid. But where is this file?

Does anyone know if there is a way that the volume can be changed on the SGS i9000 without the screen turning on?
I have checked the settings of both Android and Winamp but found no option.
Also, an Internet search using Google and searching the XDA did not return a result...
I also find this annoying. I use the MIUI player

Thanks for the quick reply and information; I will definitely check that out now.
You would think that this would be a feature included with Android; although, maybe a developper would be able to create a mod with this feature. *hint hint*
Can anyone comment if such a modification would even be possible?
PlayerPro supports volume up/down with the screen off. It also supports skip forward/back with the volume keys, by holding them down. (this behaviour can be turned off and/or reversed with volume as well).
It's the only music app I've found that does this, although I wish it did pause instead.
Cheers
What firmware are you on? I'm on Darky's 9.3 (2.2) and it does this with the default music player.

THANK YOU!!!
I am using the JVB firmware currently and, as you mentioned, the default music player actually does not turn the screen on when changing volume.
Hah! All this time and I never thought to use the default music player. Go figure...
So, seems as though I should send yet another request to Winamp development.
Wish me luck...
Alright, to finish this thread off I thought I would mention that I have been using Winamp since it was released and never looked back; so, my apologies for anyone that may have facepalmed while reading this...
Suprisingly the default music player is not that bad. Actually, I think that I may continue using it instead of Winamp until an equalizer has been implemented and the volume can be changed without causing the screen to turn on. Also, the music player has features in the notification area and Winamp does not.
Either way, thanka again to everyone that helped; it is greatly appreciated.

Hi the problem with the screen that turns on when pressing the volume keys occurs when you have a non stock lockscreen like widgetlocker or winamp lockscreen controls above the stock lockscreen.
I think everyone reproduce this problem in sgs
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
use player pro and voodo sound (voodoo control plus)
its worked like a charm
I honestly would just use the default samsung music player. It has built in eq's, has lock screen player & has a funky 5.1 button for the hell of it. (although it's debatable if it changes the sound quality for the better or not)

You have helped me to find the root cause. THANK YOU IMMENSELY!!!
The issue is that; although I use the stock lockscreen, it was disabled using the Extended Controls application because I was at work and next to my phone the entire time...
Good catch and thanks again. I owe you a coffee, beer, or something; but, in the meantime, I will click your thanks button. That's just as good, right?!
Does anybody know if volume + works phonewide or just the stock music app? And if it does work phonewide how do I get pandora to heed my adjustments. I don't hear any change when I play around with it
I believe root is needed for full functionality. I'm using on stock and seems to help.

After enabling volume + did you go to android settings > sound > music effects and enable volume + there?
Works fine on my GSIII

Volume plus has its own app, you turn it up from there.
It works great for the external speaker/ringer volume!
