hi...
in an italian forum.... a member say that the white version have more light... it is more luminous.
he compared the note ....with others BLACK possessors..... and ALL TIMES he noticed the white version is more luminous.
can you check if your WHITE note is better than a black note?
i am really interested to know if it is true....... if samsung changed the panel in the white version.. or not.

Ive seen someone post a pic of 2 black note's screens, one was blue ish the others screen was white, its depends on youre luck pretty much I think, what the screen turs out to be like...
look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335161
My guess it is software related... otherwise I am sure 99% will be very pissed of..since most people have the black version...
I've got a white one and the display is very bright and has no green tint. Very happy with it so far but I don't have a black one to compare it to.
I did order the black one from amazon.de yesterday, it will arrive this week, so I would really like to get to know if there is a REAL hardware differences between the modeles... I bet my ass it is software related..there is so many power saving options etc.. which make the screen less bright... to save battery...
For spending this amount of money it is NOT OK that the white version would be better hardwarewise it would make me seriously pissed of..but as I said before I highly doubt it...
the possibility of white galaxy notes having better screens is starting to piss me off. can anyone confirm this?

It's highly unlikely. The panels all come off the same assembly line; the cost to set up to make a certain panel is so high it would be insane not to use just one to supply all of the Note panels. No need to stress yourself out over some random internet speculation.
yes, I agree it seem very unlikely...and would be very disrespectful for the samsung customers... who do not know what they buy.... it would be like you are buying a "pirate copy" of the original if the white would be better..I would feel like that...so I hope it is only placebo and illusions otherwise I feel very fooled.. and angry and pissed off.

I doubt they would have different panels and only put certain ones in white ntes, and separate out others to only put in black ones. That would be costly to do, and there would be no reason to do it.
The only way I could see why there would be any difference is if they updated the screen driver in the white ones because they are newer, or if the newer batch of screens just come out better. In any case that means the black ones should get better as well if there is in fact any difference.

That could be partially right since black absorbs light and white reflects. Just another reason white Note > black
@Joker
that doesn't make the screen more luminous, it makes the device more luminous. as in the bezel and all that literally.
and i wasn't thinking they'd use deliberately different screens. maybe better batches, is what i meant.

+1, you sir are 100% correct. It's like saying the black note has better blacks since it's black and on the other hand the white Note has better whites since it's white...
The white Note only appears better since the frame is white, hence making it seem better.
As you clearly mentioned it only APPEARS more luminous.
I agree with many others that if you were to compare a black Note to a white one you would not see any difference...
Glad I got the black one though as people would probably mistake the white one for being a new Apple/Ipad which would offend me.
Also for movies & pictures the black note would be the better choice...
100% RIGHT
I have the white and the black note, the screen of the white note is better than the black one,
I have the same version on both, and i noticed that the white note is more bright than the black one, so i decided to keep the white one.
the white one was made by Samsung, and the black one says made in Korea by Samsung.
i got the white from hong kong and the black from clove uk .

I accept that based on your experience you found there to be a significant enough of a difference between the two panels to make a subjective choice. However, Until i see pictures of direct comparisons between the two devices, i will have to reserve my judgement.

Yeah the white one for some reason doesn't say "Made in ____" rather just a cryptic "Made by Samsung". The panel on this thing is fantastic.

One data point means nothing.
There is always variation between panels, especially AMOLED. Some other guy might get a black one and a white one and have the opposite experience you did. Until/unless we get a large quantity of such reports, common sense should be used.
The panels on the new WHITE galaxy s2 have been tested with calibration hardware and come out MUCH better that the BLACK one, for brightness AND color accuracy.
The site that tested them is eager to test some NEW black s2 to see if it is a new batch of screens or if it is just the white s2 that gets the better panels...
Maybe it's the same with the Note ?
That would suck.
EDIT: that same site just tested the Note and say that the screen kicks ass so if you get a ****ty screen just send it back. By the way, they tested the black Note...

It really does! I loved the screen on my GSII, but the Note's is better, and not just resolution. It's brighter and has more contrast. I have a couple dark wallpapers to help save battery (in theory) and one of them is this neat black/dark grey paisley, and you couldn't really make it out in the GSII, but it looks awesome on the Note.
@Latoc: Link please?
well this of course would be very depressing news...if this turns out to be true..it would also be interesting to know if the there is individual differences between the black models also.. When it comes to this I think I prefer Apple you atleast KNOW what the hell you are getting when you buy the phone, cause apple is more careful about their trademark and to keep the quality high. Samsung does not seem to care as much... they consider us customers stupid, "they will most likely not notice anything" then all the reviewers get the best versions etc...
Well I am happy with my note but I would really like to compare side by side with my own eyes with the white version...
I am always using the brightness on 100% but I think most of people will have it on auto... so I guess it is more important for some then others... but especially when watching media/pictures/video the brightness is important..

Having had my white Galaxy S2 for about a month, I have actually gone off the white colour and now wish I had a black handset. It's a shame as when I first got my phone I was in love with the white colour and I was one of the first to get one of the white handsets on release day.
It's stupid I know but I wandered if anyone had a similar feeling and wished they had the other colour to the one they bought?
Anyone want to do a swap? Lol
Go to the xda marketplace and post the request for trade, I bet some one would be willing to trade with you
You can always get a black case (SGP or any other) and get SGP's Black Glass Screen protector for the front. Now you have a black phone! They also give you a black piece to cover your home button. Now you can switch in between your mood. That is what I am going to do. I hear what your saying though. I love my white one but sometimes I want the black front.

That's not a bad plan. I like the fact that you could choose between the two depending on what you fancy at the time.
GOD! i love my white S2 after years of nothing but black black black , I have had three back S2`s and the silver trim around the edge of the white S2 really does looks the dogs bollics.
But each to their own
A nice sleek silver phone would be lovely but i like my black GS2.

I absolutely love the look of the white GS2, but I went with black for two main reasons. First, (and maybe you can confirm this), I read that the smooth back on the white version made the grip less sure compared to the rough back on the black. Second, as much as I love the look, I'm not really the type that likes to stand out too much, and a black smartphone is a lot less attention-grabbing than a white one, even if the latter is beautiful. Plus, I saved about $30 based on the best prices I could find when I bought. Okay, that was three reasons I guess, so sue me.
But yeah, the white usually costs a bit more, as you can see here already, you won't have any trouble trading someone.
Love my white SGS 2 here using SGP with satin silver niiiice
I own a black gs2 and my wife has a white gs2. I like both but I do really like hers more! Looks awesome in white!

Haha that's exactly what I keep getting told. Which has put me off the white. Don't get me wrong, I still like the look of it but would much prefer the black.
I prefer the Black as I have got a Black One all my phones have either been Black or Silver.
My colleague just got a White one and It kinda looks Odd compared to mine so quite happy
Yeah and its true girls look cool with white phones
Argh, my first white phone and I love it.
But today I somehow got ink on my hands from a badly made pen and must have picked up my phone,
ink marks stay on the phone and are NOT easily wiped off.
Went from screen cleaner -> lens cleaner -> flash -> Mr muscle, which FINALLY did the job.
The joys of a white phone
I got the white sgs2 after waiting for one month. I love it. I'm happy that I waited for it and didin't buy the black one. Looks awesome in white.
Hi all,
I'm still trying to decide which colour to get. I have never had a White phone before, and think the white looks good. But I have heard that White can get dirty easier and screen would also look less vibrant.
So...what do you guys think? Which colour will you get if you can be bothered to wait for the white.
I had a white Blackberry for a bit, I liked it for a month then the colour start to bother me for some unknow reason, maybe because it doesn't match with my other gears.
Go for white if you want your Note to stand out and maybe have a slightly better resell value. But you can't go wrong with black, it's a classic colour.
I haven't seen either one in the flesh, but I quite fancy the look of the white one on the web. However, price and supply have dictated that I get the black one. No big deal either way for me.
If it helps, Apple seem to have plenty of white versions of their products - iPad, old Macbook, iPhone, iPod and lots of accessories and I've not seen anyone grumble that it started to look dirty.
If I could stand the wait I would probably get the white. It looks pretty amazing when I see it in a video online. I have seen a white S2 in person and they look beautiful.
My order is in for the black, can always order both and sell the black when the white comes in
Black looks better imho. Now where is my shipping notification...
let me vote for a white one ^_^
I bought a white iPad 2. I had to return it, it was honestly distracting doing anything but reading a bright white webpage. I don't think i'll get another white device again.
Ask any one involved in the clothing trade and they'll tell you white makes you look bigger. The Note already looks big enough.
The cover for a white Note would also need to be white in order to match and it would soon look dirty, especially if it was made of leather. So for that reason alone I would prefer black.
Black is better for images and movies, white would stand out too much, with everything black it will blend in.
It's like having a white tv, wtf who would want a white tv? My vote goes for black!
I'm aiming to get black

Got my Note in white and I love the way it looks. It doesn't get dirty, no more so than my black Galaxy S2 did. Everyone that's seen it falls in love with the way it looks.
There doesn't seem to be any information about what the release date for the White version is? There is only the review video on Slashgear, and the announcement from Samsung that the white version will launch alongside the black version. To my knowledge, no white Note's have shipped yet.
I just pre-ordered the White version from handtec.co.uk for 449GBP+15GBP Shipping, but they have no expected date.
If there is any updates on the White version, please post them here.
got the white one on clove.co.uk ( not sure if its in stock but the site already let ppl purchase )

ps its more expensive than other sites tho
According to the below link (first paragraph), the white version should be launching in the UK the same day as the black one. I want the white one, so going to just wait. Handtec has it, but it says pre-order with no date listed.

I just heard back from Clove and Handtec on the white galaxy note, seems that Samsung hasn't given them any release date, so, looks like it might be awhile
why don't buy a dark blue one with some white paint? The white one is mostly for girls.
The info I got from Clove was early December for the white version. Take that with a grain of salt...
i got the black one as i cannot wait for the white one
i have asked samsung UK about the white one " no date for releasing the white one yet , it might take a while "
I also contacted handtec about the white one and they have no date.
I just contacted Handtec to change my preorder of the White version to the black one...cant wait for the white one

Totally a matter of taste and preference. As a girl, I didn't even give the white a second look mainly because I gag seeing all the white iPhones and GSII's on Hong Kong's street already. I've also seen a lot of white gadgets turning yellow over a period of use.
The black is good and business-like. I think people would just take me less seriously in business meetings when I pull out a white gadget.
For those interested in a white, CityLink in North Point, HK has them available and I've reserved one already for anybody interested!

Hi guys!
First off I wanna say I love my Note!! I have the Korea version as well.
Anyway, I still have my Galaxy S I which I ended the contract to get a Note.
I have to say as far as the "blacks" are concerned, the Galaxy S I wins hands down and also the text/color is sharper and even brighter than the Note.
I tried to take side by side photos but this was the best I could do to show the difference. Both phones are at max. brightness

The pics do not do justice. In person there is a real difference. Even the capacitive lights on the bottom are brighter and whiter.
Not a big deal though when my Gaalaxy S isnt being compared to the Note. Just bothers me a bit personally
Thanks!!
Its becoz of the resolution . Galaxy Has 480 x 800 and in Note 1280 x 800, their is a lot of difference in these too models. anyway Supercurio is working on color issues on Note. lets Hope for better result.

After installing Screen Adjuster free from the market ..I just upped the red a fraction [+3] to get rid of the slightest green tinge to my screen.
Then installed Voodoo Screen from the Market and set it to Native Mode... this has fixed 90% of the banding issue on my Note.
Now the screen is beautiful and can hardly fault it.

Coming from a galaxy s with a perfect screen i have to agree that the black levels on the note is not as good and yes picture quality on the first generation screen is better even if its just plain pentile and non hd resolution.
People who started with the galaxy note are easily blown away but those who started with the first gen need more to be pleased. I also started a thread about this before and got the same results on the black levels.. im hoping that hd samoled plus can redeem the samoled family.
I think it is an amazing screen!!! I love it, about it being less bright, god I think the note is too bright. I never have it on full brightness unless its really bright sunshine, and in the dark I wish it would go darker, but it won't.
And the black levels!!!(I'm sick of hearing about this in the this forum) some people are so anal about this, I mean I can only just about tell that the screen is on, on a full black screen when I'm in a pitch black room, which I did to test the blacks. So 99% of the time you can't tell, and even in a pitch black room as soon as theres a pixel of light on the screen your eyes adjust and the blacks look black again. Secondly how many of you that are bothered about this, actually sit in the cinema or watch tv or when on the computer, say oh my good the blacks aren't quiet black. I can pretty much guarantee that all the screens in your life aren't LED so why bother so much about it on your phone?
I also love the screen. No disappointment at all!
Would you rather have 480x800!?
This is brand new technology! It pushes the limits of what can be done at consumer price.
And people are complaining!? WTF!
edit: I owned a SGS1, but I like the Note's screen way more. Much sharper.
Although I must say I'm not experiencing the issues I read about on the forum.

Are you joking???
I worked a few years in an industrial R&D department and designed new products, but we NEVER would have dared to release a product with such massive quality fluctuations (problems) onto a mass market! Especially when the screen is THE major unique selling argument!
Fine that YOUR screen is fine for YOU, but sorry, your arguments are pure ignorance! You do NOT have this issues, fine, then why judge about their seriousness??

Jeez, dont buy a samsung nexus then because that thing is a mess. Signal fluctuates so badly that its kinda funny. Fake screen size (the android buttons are actually on the bottom of the screen, reducing the screen size to the razr. The sound is a joke, the battery useless. Match that with no sd card slot no hdmi and the headphone jack at the bottom of the phone and youve got a 600$ flop.
I bought it for my 12 year old and even he doesnt want it. He wants me to bring it back and get a razr....
BTW, i have a bad s pen and the trademark samsung pink hue in the middle of my camera but asude from that, i love my note. When i saw it in youtube early 2011 i knew it would become my daily phone web surfer.
I wish for the same phone with S amoled PLUS, volume and sleep buttons not across from each ither, no pink in camera, mute button (like iphone) and the sane type of notification light as on the samsung nexus, micro hdmi out and quad core
try the free wallpaper called "no wallpaper" by simplicity apps. The blacks that you see with that wallpaper are amazing and it is free. i often use my phone at night when my child is sleeping, so lights are off and dark and see pitch black screen.
have 2 htc desires at home with amoled screens and the note screen is way better than that. have seen SGS and SGS2 screens and the note is definetely much better than that.
also try the wallpaper (free and paid versions) of KF Flames or KF Flames Donation by kittehface software. the blacks on that are also awesome with equally awesome flame effects. prefer the stock setting than variations possible with paid version but bought paid version just to support developer as liked free version.
the screen on even the sgs2 is no comparison to the one on the note. is your phone stock version or is having different roms affecting the display?
ICS should sort out most issues as its 32bit colour .... (or it could be 24 bit not 100 percent) ,,,
no wallpaper works a treat ... also lowering red to 3
still some apps which are lower density look like they have lines on .. but if you take screen shot they are still there when looking on pc so its the app not the phone
this phone rocks ... never ever going back to the half eaten apple ....

Fine that YOUR screen is fine for YOU, but sorry, your arguments are pure ignorance! You do NOT have this issues, fine, then why judge about their seriousness??

Where in my post am I "judging" about "their" seriousness?
If you find the screen their "major unique selling argument", why did you buy it before doing research on the screen?
If you are so worked up about the screen, why don't you get a replacement or trade it for a different phone?
Why do you point your frustration at someone who bought a phone he likes?
Because you bought a phone that you do not like?
Really, if you are so pissed off that you have to enter a forum discussion this angry. You should return the phone.
If you worked in a research and design department you must be a smart guy. You know getting angry won't get us anywhere.

Thanks!!

The blacks on my old S2 is way deeper than the one in the Note.
Disappointing for sure.
But i'll take sharper screen over deeper blacks any day.
Well I was the proud owner of two notes this week, first one had a screen which used to tint between pink and green, so I got Amazon to send a replacement, which came today.
Alas this one isn't rendering the blacks properly and makes Black & White photos and videos look awful, pity as I'm a photographer and wanted to show client photos on the note (First note rendered Blacks great, just the white balance kept going off every odd second or so).
So two notes being returned, not taking the risk again.

After installing Screen Adjuster free from the market ..I just upped the red a fraction [+3] to get rid of the slightest green tinge to my screen.

I adjusted the red to +1 on my Note, and it's worked perfect
Much clearer now, thanks for that tip - I'd never heard of that app before.

I'm not sure how the black levels are perceivably different from one OLED screen to another, whether it's AMOLED, SAMOLED, SAMOLED Plus, or HD SAMOLED.
I mean, think about it...
All OLED displays are actively lit, which means that each pixel is its own source of light as opposed to being, essentially, active colour filters for a backlight, like on an LCD.
Let's go ahead an use 24-bit colour for the following example:
Basically, each pixel is able to register 256 levels of intensity per colour, which is represented by 8 bits per colour. And since you have three colours (Red, Green, and Blue), that's 8 bits times 3, hence 24-bit.
In the case of an LCD, where each pixel is essentially a filter, blocking or allowing backlight through, a bit value of 0 for any particular colour would mean fully blocking light, and a bit value of 255 would mean fully allowing as much light through as possible.
However, since the backlight in an LCD is always on, regardless of the image, the front panel isn't always able to completely block all the light, even on a completely black image. That's why you're still able to see a little bit of bleed-through, even on the best LCD's.
With any kind of OLED display technology, this is not the case however. On an OLED display, each pixel is essentially a microscopic cluster of light emitting diodes, and since each pixel produces its own light, there is no backlight whatsoever. Thus, on an OLED display, a 255 bit value for a given colour means full intensity, and a bit value of 0 simply means "off."
Q.E.D. on any kind of OLED display, true black is truly black in the same sense that when a light bulb is turned off, it's completely off.
So, if you're perceiving a difference in the black levels between respective OLED devices, it could be simply that you're not viewing a truly black image. The image might contain pixel bit values close to 0, but not actually 0.
Hey guys, I am struggling to decide on which color to import. I have traditionally always had black phones, but the white body in screenshots at least looks really good.
Are there any advantages/disadvantages to going white vs. black with the Z3c?
I've always had black phones too. I bought a used white moto x a couple months back. I love it more and more every day. I definitely getting the white z3c. The black one just looks boring.
I went for the white one. Have had several black phones and wanted a change. Would have done the red / orange model but the black bezel looks tacky to me.
I did white too. Should shoe fewer fingerprints than black.

I went for Black - looks more professional. I like keeping my phones in cases anyway though
I went for black, never had a white phone, although I do have a niggling feeling perhaps I should have tried white, it does look good.
I ordered the white one. I changed it to the red one awhile later. I saw a video of the black one and it looks really classy to me so I changed my order to black
I originally wanted the mandarin red, then saw some videos of the mint green and thought that would be really cool, but unfortunately, the green won't be available unlocked for some time yet. After hearing more testimonials about the red and how brilliant it was, I'm convinced it's the right choice. Basically, I wanted anything other than black and white because as safe, classy, and sleek as those choices are, I find them to be rather bland. If I had to choose though, I'd go with white, only because most of my devices have always been black and I wanted something different.
I had a Z1c in black for quite sometimes and bought my brother the Z1c in white and gotta say the white does looks really good. But currently can not really say much about the z3c as it is not available yet in Australia. The best way would have to go and look for yourself which one would suit your taste better. But i would say the white looks good on picture. The only that might be a concern that is the seal around the screen is white as well, just do not know would it be stain over time

TBH I don't get your question at all, since it's purely opinion based.
If there would be a technical difference based on the color, most people would get the color that had the technical upper hand.
You don't ask your friends either if you should have a blonde/brunette girlfriend/boyfriend, since it's all just based on taste.
You are absolutely right but you have to understand that we are all really excited about this phone and we just discuss all kinds of bul**** about it until the delivery agent rings the doorbell and leaves the white box in our hands...

confused i am using the hox white, and looks really cool. Perhaps i might try the black this time, It will also match with my sony xb90ex earphones
I prefer black because I don't like how the sensor cutout, speaker, and camera lens standout on white.
If I could get black front and white back like my Dev moto x, that would be awesome. I guess I can still do that with a white skin for the back.

Not necessarily. White will show less fingerprints, but might discolor over time. There are a few objective traits each color exhibit, and since I feel torn between the two aesthetically, I wanted to discuss some objective reasons one color might benefit over the other.

The white is covered in glass on both sides so why would it discolor?

it won`t.
At least it didn`t on my white Z.
I think another disadvantage of a white one would be the white front panel making the display appear darker, I think in sunny weather the white could actually "blind" you a little, making the screen a tad more difficult to read.
I've occasionally had overheating problems with sunlight coming in through a car window. White might be helpful.
Take green
