Go products - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hello every one.
i must say that i have tried all the rom for u8800 oxygen cm7 miui oex and original.
each one rom is good and has things that some other doesn't have.
one day i tried the go launcher and all the products from go.
My conclusion is that it has everything you want like you running icecream and you can even make folders with app.
each rom have problems with wifi Bluetooth etc .
you can use the original rom with no problems and have a look beter than icecream.
i am writing this because i liked very much and its free and everything working .
i just wonted to share my experiment with you .
thank you

I do agree with you 100%.
Go apps are indeed great and the majority are free.
Go launcher is a must have!

ROM Madness

I wonder how many people will agree with me. I have spent the last several months playing around with different ROMs -- both 6.1 and now 6.5. I have found that it takes me at least 5 hours to put everything "back in" after uploading a ROM (I admit that I have 20-odd programs and lots of tweaking to do which I cannot automise) and have decided that this is really a waste of time. I am neglecting ACTUALLY WORKING on my phone (I have several projects going; one is compiling a dictionary). My family has also suffered from lack of attention. I find that when I wake up, the first thing on my mind is: Is there a new ROM for me to download today?
So I have stopped this madness. I have gone back to the latest generic English ROM and have started to add various CABs to suit my needs for new stuff For example I have the 'Growing' panel, and lots of other things like the new calculator from 6.5. I think this is the way forward for me. Of course, I just might give in to temptation as the ROMs get better -- who knows? And I will always be grateful to the cooks.
I wonder how many people would agree with what I have just written; would love to read your comments... Thanks
I fully agree with you. I haven't used a single cooked ROM yet, still I have a lot to do with finding the right software for my phone, installing it, uninstalling it again, adjusting the settings, etc. It consumes a LOOOT of time and it definitely has a great impact on my life at this time. Hope that I will have everything I need soon
I would agree if the new roms brought nothing to the table but after using itje's 4.5 rom i can't say i agree. That was just a spectacular development.
I think the ROM developement here is amazing and the proof of people creativity on .xda. I admire it.
At the same time I don't use it.
No time, no need.
Don't want any risk either.
Generic UK is good. I wait for R3.

Where did you get a calculator from 6.5? I'm looking for a nice free calculator and that sounds nice
Beside, I agree with you, I think it will coast a lot of time, I didn't install a custom ROM and I'll wait for the official R3AA Rom, I think the custom ROMs are great, and I'm a lot browsing through the threads, but I do need a lot of time...
I agree with you.
I have tried most of the english ROMs for X1. And i tell you the best ROM is the official generic ones(generic UK in my case)
Almost all the cuztom roms out now have problems, little bugs here and there. I like Jacks ROMs best, because he always tries to perfect his ROM. Even the little enhancment tweaks which are posted here, they are not worth it.
Just stick with the official stuff and use the product that are made good developers (like HTC and SPB)
I for one am pretty happy with the nX1i ROM. Its lite and works like a charm.
But yea...its pretty darn annoying to have to install everything back into the device.

5 hours? Did you use UC to automate the install process? I had UC for almost everything (e.g. software install, software registration w/ registry or file copying, shortcut moving, customization ....etc) and it take about 20 mins and require no attention. It may take some time beforehand for UC, but worth it since the one time process will work for any UC custom rom w/ any device (w/ minor change) in the long run.

Isn't that you are doing the same thing except it's just on a stock rom (and no UC to automate yr process)?
I am not either a flashing fun.
I ve had 2 WM phones b4 (MIO & ETEN) with very buggy official ROMs. And a good custom ROM could give tones of added value at these old times.
But with X1 things are different. The latest version of the official ROM is quite good. Not any serious issues.
A good reason to flash a custom rom could be if u like Manila (which I don't)
ATM, I am using nX1i which is actually same as the official, except some junks removed and some newer version apps and I am very happy with it.

You have EU HD2 ? You like apps ? You like stock looks ? Stick with WM6.5...

My two cents.
Let’s imagine you’re like me : you have an EU HD2 with 512 Nand space. You like to download apps; after all, it’s Android, not WM6.5 or WP7. So you’re like me and have around 150 apps on your phone using an ext partition. You also like “stock look”, whether it’s Cyanogen, MIUI or Sense. Also, let’s imagine you’re not a newbie : you know how to handle partition size editing flash.cfg files, how to install various A2SD methods, how to read changelogs and instructions, etc.
You have to agree this is not an excessive profile; just a guy with 512mb Nand, like his apps on EXT and his looks clean…
So, what's your daily stable ROM ? Answer is easy : none.
Since a month or two, Android on HD2 has been going downhill if you consider these points. Let’s “review” ROMS by category (and not ROMS in particular, I don't want to blame in particular)…
- Stock Android/CyanogenMOD :
they used to be great. They still are actually. Fast, stable and editable as you wish. You do have some FC from time to time or need to reboot but that’s ok. Even Hyperdroid now with its CM-based version can be themed to stock. And they got great darktremor A2SD support with a lot of space on NAND and EXT.
Problem ? Since several releases, there is a huge bug (see my sig) that causes incoming calls to be just silent or a “shhhh” whether it's stock or cm. You need to pull out the battery and wait 10 minutes for the reboot. Great when you are waiting an important call. No fixes around, no chefs really caring to fix it either.
A smartphone than can’t be used as a phone is just “smart” and pointless.
- MIUI :
I don’t like it’s Iphoney style but it’s fast, editable and some features are nice.
Problem ? Try to find one with really working A2SD in the long term ! Since SD days, this has been an issue. Whether it is darktremor’s method or A2SDkiller + data2sd installer method, you get either in a bootloop after 5 restarts, either the apps on EXT won’t show, just blank icons. And I tried every MIUI rom out there !
Next !
- Sense :
it used to be slow but stable/working (rafpigna), now it’s fast but buggy. Sense chefs are like kids with the new Sense 3.0. As soon it was released, they rushed into the store leaving behind their previous beloved toys/roms. So instead of a full working old Sense, you get 37 versions of instable 2.1 or highly buggy 3.0, or a mix of both.
Imilkaaa’s ROMs all suffer from a major A2SD bug that leads many apps or games on EXT to FC. And as many recent Sense roms are based of that A2SD method, they all have the same bug. No chefs seems to care about that. Cmylxgo’s ROMS leave not enough space on NAND for apps, etc.
So ? Well Rafpigna 4.0.2, a two months old ROM, still not really optimized is the latest fully stable Sense Rom. Slow but stable.
You see my point. Let’s be clear : I know chefs are working for free, I know they don’t owe us anything; I even donated to several of them.
But my message is : chefs or devs, STOP updating your ROMS daily for matching the latest line of code released and start working on stabilizing your ROM(s). We need our phone to call, to be called and we need our phone to work.
Experimental builds are fine of course but today, they are too many and it has become a nightmare for someone who just wants to have things working. Of course, I could flash two months old ROM for that matter…but I had the naivety to believe that chefs do care about offering a stable experience to the community.
I prey for charnsingh_online call to be heard : we need devs to work on optimizing/stabilizing the experience, not bringing new bugs every day or two.
The solution for now ? Learning to cook my own ROM (I might work on that but I have 0 knowledge and not much time unfortunately) or go back to WM6.5. You can imagine which one I’m considering now.
Please, let this be a discussion and not an trial.
Why didn't you just stick with a build you liked?
OP obviously works at Microsoft.
Hmmm,
well, I´m using still MDJ´s oldfashioned CM7 2.7 (and some fixes from that thread) and don´t know what you´re talking about.
I have a stable, fast, goodlooking and reliable ROM on my HD2.
I love Android
Since you have tested/used enough Android ROMS and your knowledge seems extended as I can see, you must have concluded to the fact that WM6.5 is a joke...
The solution for now is to stick to the ROM that works for you best, either it is NAND, RAM or SD. And since you're satisfied with it, don't flash every other day a different ROM. This way you don't have the time to actually 'use' the phone and appreciate its huge capabilities.
I was a WM user since 2004 with Windows Mobile 2003 SE, so I am happy I have gotten rid of them.
thinking the same thing...
A lot of roms but not one which is just stock and clean. (except typhoon, but which suffers by bugs too).
Don't understand why everybody just must "tweak" their roms so madly...
I see your points and obviously I could stick with a ROM that used to work and I will probably. I spent part of the day flashing all the ROMS from the Nand section's first page and I will now spent the rest of the day flashing old ROMS to remember the ones that were doing it for me.
Don't get me wrong : I'm ok with things not running perfectly. It's Android on a non-native Android device after all. But I'm frustrated to see the general level of stability/usability going down and even to loose some features !
Ex : if you want recent and fully working stock Sense with enough space for apps, your only choice is imilka's Incredible Sense with its major a2sd and wifi connectivity bugs. CoreDroid is heavily themed and Cmylxgo doesn't leave enough space for apps.
And while I could revert to rafpigna outdated but stable work, it's hard to do so when you tasted the speed of the latest build.
I have the impression that some chiefs just "hit and run" : "Bam, here's the newest features ! Don't ask for support and see you in two weeks for more new features and news bugs !" I'm joking...
I guess I should start learning how to **** ROMS. I've spent my day messing around with .zips content, I might take the big plunge...
Maybe you'd like to try Typhoon CM7 v2.7.6. I was using it for a few months and found absolutely no problem with it. No bugs whatsoever, everything is fast.
I've switched to Lady MIUI now.. Just for a change but it still has some quirks. The CM7 build I've introduced though is really solid, surprised that I didn't have any problem with it.

I never used to have a very stable build, until I tried MIUI.
I HATE the iphone look, so I use MIUI, but with Go-Launcher EX.....then it looks nothing like an Iphone and is 100% stable.
To be honest, i'm just VERY VERY greatful that I have been lucky enough to have DEVELOPERS on this site, who work their asses off and give us all these lovely ROMS and greatful that they have enabled us to have Android.
Otherwise, most of us would have got rid of or HD2 by now.
Can you imagine how much it would cost if one of us approached a developer not a member of these forums and asked him to build a ROM for us.
How many hundreds of dollars would that cost - scary!
If it wasn't for Devs working their butts off, mostly for free, apart from donations, then this subject wouldn't even exist.
OK, you said "you like apps stick with WM6.5"
Right, here is a list of just a few apps I have on my phone.
If you can provide me with a link to a site where an equivalent app exists on windows mobile 6.5, then, well....we'll see.
1: Swarm Torrent
2: Battery Left Pro
3: Fast Burst Camera
4: Talking Tom Cat
5: Sheriff Droid
6: Appmonster Pro
Awaiting your reply......

Bought Tab 2 - Where to start

Hi guys,
Havent been on here for a long long while. Just bought a tab 2 as i was frustrated with the ipad. I have no idea where to start though with customsations etc.
Will need to root it i know, but can someone recommend a clean and smooth rom? dont want to flash it too much. Just general use really, transfer docs, browsing etc would ideally like something with flash still capable, but speed and smoothness is the most important thing for me.
Any advice would be appreciated.
many thanks
Aokp build 4 or cm10 from www.teamhacksung.org
I use cm10 as more updates but aokp is more customizable

Try CM9 it works very well without glitches in CM10. I try all the roms and end up back on cm9 every time.
Good luck

Other than a problem introduced by myself, I haven't had any problems with the AOSP JB builds.
go to the android development forum, read up the stickies first
you have 7 inch or 10.1 ?
root
flash may not be available on jb
AOKP build 4 , much more control over the ROM than say CM9/10. You choose what you want and how you want it. AOKP is more suited to the tab IMO as CyanogenMod has to cater for much more devices. Constant builds and updates. Id say AOKP is for advanced users
If you like to twiddle with your devices thats the ROM for you.If you dont , then go for CM10.
If your not that bothered go for AOSP Loads of ROMs to choose from , no way of saying the "best" as it dosent exist. Its a personal choice and to be honest they are all pretty much the samething, just some slighty more customisable than others.
If you want a "Stock" experience go for anything that "RomsWell" builds as its generally stable and all the bloat/crap has been removed.
Search the forums for your specific device and check out the official threads for each ROM. If you don't know what to do ASK in the threads and people will help you out no problems as we are all mostly friendly and helpful to each other.
First thing you should be thinking about is do you want "root" access ( full control over the ROM) ? Search for your device and make sure you understand what's to be done and you have to correct tools to do it. Read it again, you be surprised how many people mess it up and then make posts for help lol.
Once you are more confident with Android , try all the ROMs out , wont cost you a penny and you can see for yourself then but say good bye to your warranty as it will be void as soon as you mess with your tab. If you read up on things you wont have any problems at all.
Good luck and have fun.
Not my thread but this is a good post above. Im a new user just reading and learning and this sort of post helps me alot.
Thank you
We all start somewhere and its what the forums for , So I'm glad to help.
Thanks :highfive:
No need to root, I've rooted the crap out of my phones, but have never felt the need to do the same with my tab2. And It's perfectly fine.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G with Beats Audio using Tapatalk 2
I agree with the above commenter.
Usually I root all of my devices, but with the Tab2 I haven't felt the need to.
To be honest I have quite a few of the different Home Replacement Apps and haven't even installed one of them on it.
Runs great out of the box! Just download a few apps to get you started!
One thing I did have to do though is a full hard reset after a few days of owning it, as it was buggy and slow, but ever since I did that, it has been perfect!
I can't wait to see the progress that the official JB release brings!
The only reason i root mine is because of pdroid, feels naked without it

[Q] Recommend me a ROM

No, this is not one of the usual 'What's the best ROM out there' threads.
I am looking for something specific and hoping all you people can be of help.
I have been using a MIUI NAND ROM for some time now and been very happy with it but am now looking for a change with all the new stuff I see out there.
However, one of the reasons I am using the MIUI ROM is that it was one of the few at the time that supported WiFi Hotspot. The Gingerbread ROMs at the time didn't work.
Do any of the newer ICS ROM's support Hotspot working? If so, which ones have people used. I would perhaps like a move back to a Sense ROM if there is one our there to recommend, but this isn't a prime requirement.
Before you all shout at me, I have looked through the current threads on ROM's, but the issue of working Hotspot is not one that crops up very often, hence this question.
Thanks for reading, and looking forward to all your recommendations
If you read carefully you'll find that in most cases its NATIVE Wi-Fi hotspot that doesn't work, whilst third party hotspot apps do. No I can't recommend one, never used it.
+1 really wanna push this thread....
I basically got stuck with 2 (/3)
NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.1 tytung <--my old favourite, had this installed for 2 days (until I broke my "new" phone - but will work again this week)
PACman HD2 v1.1 [PA/AOKP/CM10] Xylo <--my new favourite, from what I read
(EvoHD2v10 ICS 4.0.4-full HWA "Fastest ICS ever" ) <--whats with good old ICS?
convince me. I want a stable running daily use OS. shouldnt have major bugs (like reboots/having to restart/phone etc.), like in tytungs ROM, I once answered a call and there was just a "brrrrrrrrrrrrrr" <--"phone" not responding do you want to close it, pretty bad
If its very customizable/technical (like xylo) - fine, I love to be able to engineer my own things (I dont care if minor bugs)
so what do you guys think? which one do you enjoy the most and why

Switching to Android

Aaaah I hear you say, another one, it's about time, welcome to the dark side, etc etc... Yeah yeah I know, it's about time I went from WM6.5 to Android.
Reasons why I stayed with Windows ? I liked the sync between MsOutlook and my device using USB and NOT "the cloud". Sadly the new versions of Windows (7 and 8) don't allow this anymore so I reluctantly joined "the cloud" (Google Apps for Education, it's free).
Now, I am ready to switch to Android, but, ... which version ? which ROM ? how does it install ? straightfoward ?
Can anyone recommend a good ROM that :
- contains HTC Sense
- is fast
- is easy to install (go easy guys, I work, live and breathe Msoft, it's my job, yeah I know, but it pays the bills)
- is in English
- is up-to-date
- is free
Thanks very much.
PS : I'd rather keep my history (SMS mostly) as they contain a lot of info, so far I've used PPCPimBackup, does that work cross-platform ?
Boags.
if you still want to keep WM you can boot Android within it, there are many tutorials around here, also be careful if your using a tmobile verions a wrong radio culd brick your phone.
here's one that you could try

Thanks, I'm happy just formatting WM6, no dual boot.
It's not a Tmobile it was bought without a plan or anything so I'm pretty free in that regard.
Any suggestion for a "clean install" ROM ?
I'm pretty sure nobody's thinking 'it's about time, welcome to the dark side' but more along the lines of 'oh FFS, another thread asking about the best ROM and how to install it'. If you'd have searched, you'd have found a few hundred threads exactly like this, and multiple guides on installing Android.
Anyway, try the guide in my sig for an easy installation process (also read the new user guide too). Nobody can tell you the best ROM (that's entirely subjective) or a 'fast' Sense based ROM (well at least not in my opinion).

AFAIK Sense is a bit slow in Android on the HD2, and other options are better, try them and judge for yourself.
As for SMS, this is what I used when I made the switch long time ago, and it worked smoothly.

Aah, thanks for that constructive input, I thought Sense was HTC's best stuff, I'll try your ROM and let you know.:good:
Boags.
If you want a rom you can customize visually, try MIUI. It has a tons of themes so you won't get bored easily, it even has an HTC sense theme. If not try one of the CM builds. Gingerbread roms are more stable but if you want the newer android features like Google Now and some new apps do require ICS+ go for one of the ICS or Jellybean builds. If i were you i'd just try a few roms before completely settling on one and installing all your data etc.
OKay thank you both for your help. I managed to install "Nexus JellyBean" on my HD2... It wasn't as straightforward as I'd hope (there are a lot of prerequisites to Android, it's not just next-next-next you're done but anyways).
So yeah it runs, everything works, but there's a bit "but". It's slow as hell. And I mean sluggishly slow. I've only connected to Gmail, Hotmail and Facebook. Nothing else. No GPS, no WiFi, nothing.
A test : on the main screen, open Gmail. Wait for four seconds for the emails to be displayed. Close Gmail (there is no "close" application in fact, once it's opened, it stays as an open process and runs in the background). Open "Internet" and wait for ten seconds for google.com to be opened (either on Wifi or on 3G). Go back to the main screen takes forever again, then open Gmail again, wait for another five seconds, etc etc etc.
Seriously, it's bloody awful.
So, maybe it's because the HD2 wasn't meant to run on Android and I'd be better off with WM65, or maybe this build of Android isn't the fastest I can find, but then, can anyone tell me what build I should be running ? There seems to be so freaking many available it's no wonder "noobs" like me ask silly questions "which is best"..
I just booted the HD2, went to Settings/Apps/RAM : 235used and 174free... And I haven't even started using any apps...
So far then, not convinced...
I won't get into the details bec theres already tons of threads about it but
Have you flashed a new radio that unlocks the HD2 ram to 512mb?
As I said, Gingerbread roms are the most stable and fastest so I suggest you go for one of them. ICS & Jelly roms aren't 100% there yet.
I'd suggest installing on nand with data on EXT partition if your SD card isn't that fast.
Txs, i don't know, I thought I had it flashed under WM65 :
NexusHD2
Android 4.1.2
Baseband 15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14
Kernel 2.6.32.tytung_jellybean_r1
CPU ARMv7
Mem 410mb
Cyanogen 10.0.0-leo
Build date 07/12/2012
Build nr JZ054K (NexusHD2-JellyBean v1.3a) [DataOnExt]
None of these mean much to me, I'm still learning

1. He must have a .50 radio if he's successfully running NAND Android.
2. It unlocks 576MB of RAM, not 512.
@OP, Either go for GB or basically learn to live with it if you want the latest and greatest Android version. GB will be faster and more stable for daily use BUT won't have HWA so you won't have anywhere near as smooth an experience in web browsing and gaming. For your own sake don't go for a Sense ROM, they're just as 'slow' as JB or ICS. MIUI and CM7 are both great, I personally prefer CM but it's really down to your preference. Try them both then make a decision. CM has less eye candy and is far less iOS like but both are fast.
Okay thanks, slowly learning the "language"
Currently dowloading "Gingerbread" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905060) and wiping "JellyBean"... (the guy who finds these names should get a job at the place where they name tropical cyclones:laugh
Keep you posted.
If you need any help with 'learning the language' check the guide in my sig which says 'A guide to all of the terms for the HD2'. It makes things pretty simple, and definitely helped me quite a lot the first time round.
So I "downgraded" from Jellybean to Gingerbread and though it's not superfast it's a lot better.
How can I tell my radio is the version that "unleashes" the max RAM ? I recall it was the latest available on WM65...
Any "tweaks" to make it faster ? A few apps often hang for a couple of seconds before they're available...
Still, it's a pretty cool platform I must agree, a shame Msoft never could be as good. Haven't seen the new WM though...
Thanks for all your help, and have a great 2013 !:good:
Don't worry, you definitely have a compatible radio version. The guy who posted about the RAM thing earlier was basically just spamming for 10 posts.
Not to confuse you, but if you want speed, stability and functionality and don't use many apps then Windows Phone may actually be the way to go. There are obviously some apps which simply aren't available on Windows Phone yet including huge ones like Instagram and (I think) Temple Run but the OS is really wonderful to use and beats Android in terms of fluidity.
Anyway, congrats on flashing and sorry about the rudeness of my first post in this thread

Sweet, so this is as best as it will ever get I suppose. Not a LOT slower than WM65 in reality, just a tad. Loads more potential tho, with the widgets and apps and stuff out there. I'll keep it simple anyways.
Still, you're probably the only person who, though a true Linux-Android fan, has publicly admitted Microsoft does it better, well in some occasions anyways : speed and stability is what most "professional" crowd need (a smartphone that does push-email, sync their contacts database and calendar with whatever server they're using, with the occasional websurfing, facebooking, tweeting or linkedin-ing).
Having worked with Msoft for over 15 years now, I had to try Android to at least understand what the fuss was all about, well I've seen it. I'll keep it for now, but I'm not convinced I won't switch back to WM one day.
I tried NeXTstep and BeOS once, loved them both as they were way ahead of their times, but sadly they could never been used as a professional tool. I think I can say the same for Android...
PS @Nigeldg, don't sweat it bro. No offence taken.
Yeah I think people often make the mistake of assuming that all fans of one thing simply hate the alternative, which often isn't true. Different things suit different people, I'd definitely recommend an iOS or Windows Phone to my Mum for example over an Android phone because they're more simple. I can only really respect someone's opinion when they know that there are always arguments for and against a certain point, if they don't then there's really very little valid input they can make in any discussion.
Also, I don't think you should really judge Android by your experience with the HD2, that would be like making a decision between a PS3 and an Xbox based on having played Viva Pinata on the Xbox and Killzone on the PS3. Android is a very nice OS and you really need the hardware to appreciate it. Having used Android on a GNex and a Nexus 4 (which I'm still waiting to order ) I can safely say it's now as smooth as iOS and Windows Phone if you get a decent phone.
Hi,
why don't you use WM6.x and Android on the same phone (via dualboot/tripleboot/...)? You can use the advantages of both OS and only need to wait 1 min. to boot the other one... see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33988958
I use different Android-Versions, because no version can all I need... and I use WM, because I have some great payed apps... it's great...
Cheers Klaus

I don't want dual boot because I'm not looking for one solution, this exercise was just to test if a) I was able to do it, b) Android has what I need.
The answer is yes for the first questions (with help), but the second question has mixed results. Yes it runs, and yes I can do what I was doing on WM, but nothing more. Which leads me to my next question when I do decide to replace the HD2 by a new phone (because I need 4G and because I like new things, don't we all) : will I buy an Android or a Windows-based phone ?
My next challenge would be to test an iPhone
