use mkrom to cook 4.00.xx rom, a tutorial and bug report

Spent a lot of time on it, trying to figure out what went wrong with mkrom when cooking 4.00.xx roms. finally figured it, well, almostly. here is a short step by step tutorial for people who do not want to set up the complicated kitchen but wish to use mkrom as in the good old 3.17 time.
I assume you already know the rom flush process already, if given a NBF file. also you need a linux box with perl.
I know quite a few people struggled and have not had a clue. and I believe there is some bugs in the mkrom package that gives the trouble.
1. download the newest mkrom from http://xda-developers.com/~itsme/download/mkrom_136.zip. this is the only piece of software you would need.
2. unpack it to, say mkrom, directory. then make directories cfg
3. get hold of a copy of rom file and its corresponding paramter files. the parameter files can be obtained from the demo kitch download ftp://kitchen:[email protected]/data look inside the "00_base ROM" and the parameter files should be under cfg directory of each rom directory. bascially the parameter files tells mkrom, where to start to put added files and how large space there is. there are two blocks of space that can be used. so the file has format
wincever=4
start1=81740000
size1=00040000
start2=81b00000
size2=003c0000
startbmp=81ec0000
startop=81b00000
the first three lines are same for all 4.00.xx roms, start2 varies for different roms, startbmp is also the same for all roms. startop should be the same as start2. size2 will be startbmp-start2, remember they are all in hex. you can calculate how large space there is once you get hold of the start2 parameter.
anyway, put the parameter files under the mkrom/cfg directory, with name "params"
4. copy a rom file (.nbf), say rom.nbf, into mkrom directory and run "./setup rom.nbf". this will creates several files under cfg.
5. mkdir a directory mkrom/romfile, enter it and make another directory file , then type "../dumprom ../cfg/rom.nb1 -4 -d file"
here comes the first bug. the setup.sh tells you that dumprom can only be used in windows box. but in fact, there is a compiled dumprom for linux in the directory (you might need to set it to be executable though). however, this linux version does not put extracted files into the "file" directory as it is supposed to, instead it just write file as "file\xxx" where xxx is the actual file name extracted from rom. it is a bug but as long as we know it, not a big deal. the is someone posted a correct version of dumprom in this forum though.
6. you should be able to find three files (or with the "file\" prefix added) with name default.fdf initobj.dat initdb.ini. these are the three files that needs to be process as indicated by setup.sh. follow the instruction to create the default.reg initobj.txt initdb.ini and copy them to cfg directory.
7. make a directory mkdir/files. you are ready to create a clean rom now by running "./mkrom output.nbf", the created output.nbf should be fine.
So far so good, followed the instruction of mkrom. next would need to add our files. then comes the problem. if you add files into the mkrom/files directory, and run "./mkrom output.nbf" again, it is almost definitely that the created rom is bad. I am not 100% sure why, but here is what I believe:
the mkrom script scan files in the "files" directory and put files in there into the "files1", "files2" directory, each of them is supposed to fill the two space in rom starting from "start1" and "start2" in parameter file. the size of files under "file1" should be less than "size1", similar "files2" and 'size2". when mkrom does this, it is highly possible that the three critial files "default.fdf, initobj.dat, initdb.ini" are placed into "files2" directory instead of "files1" directory and renders the rom bad.
here is what I did
edit the mkrom.sh, delete the line that splits files in "files" into "files1, files2" directory. change the three lines that convert the three critial files so that these three files are created in "files1" directory instead of "files" directory. then put your files into "files1" and "files2". just be careful, keep the size less than specified by "size1" and "size2".
then you can run "./mkrom.sh output.nbf" as before, and the resulted rom will be good.
hope this helps. however still a couple of problems
1. the fdf2reg.pl won't recoganize the default.fdf extracted from 4.00.21 rom or 4.01.00 rom
2. if i change the content of initobj.txt, the created rom won't boot. I might have done something wrong in initobj.txt though. but I used to be able to do this for 3.17 rom
3. I did not try to modify registry, as my only purpose is to put my files into ROM to save space. all registry can be done later by installing the software and choose not to overwrite existing files in ROM. must simpler.
the unix version of dumprom does not decompress files, that is why your default.fdf etc seem corrupted.
this is because I only have the decompression code in the form of a binary library, which I have not figured out how to link to under linux.
the only use of dumprom under unix is to find the offsets in rom where filepointers to default.fdf etc should be patched.
I should maybe disable the '-f' option in dumprom for the unix version, to make things less confusing.
but it looks to me that the dumprom under linux worked for pre- 4.00.16 rom. only not for after 4.00.21 roms. so are they different?
maybe the default.fdf was not compressed in the 3.x roms?
I am quite sure it does not work for compressed files under linux - I just did not implement the compression routines.
dumprom worked with 4.00.05 4.00.11 4.00.16 roms. I cooked 4.00.11 and 4.00.16 roms, and the rom was fine. I never used windows box during the process. only when i tried 4.00.21 and 4.01.00, there was error. anyway, i don't care, since I need as much rom as possible and 4.00.11 seems to be the best choice for me.
thanks for writting mkrom, a terrific tool. I don't like the way xda-developers.com promoting kitchen but not mkrom. mkrom is much simpler to setup and run, as long as you know about linux. the kitchen is much more complicated to get it to work and most people don't actually need such flexibility I believe.
ok i installed cygiwin and was with u till step 5, then i am lost.. when i run step 6 dumprom (in DOS) gives me an ewrror here atr the first few lines from dumprom( wiht latest ATT official release)

so help me here how do i make sure the files extracted are all good also the size (as per ) windows explorer is 33+ not sure how all has been installed in the 32mb rom
did you get default.fdf initobj.dat initdb.ini out of dumprom. dumprom also reported tons of errors but as long as you get the three files out, it is ok.
Dumprom tries to figure out for each byte in the rom what it does. If it doesn't know it says 'unknown' this is not an error, just that dumprom could not determine the use of this byte. The 'could not find 00000000' message means that it encountered a NULL pointer somewhere in rom where it did not expect it, the other one is a pointer to RAM, which dumprom does not know exists. You can safely ignore these errors.
Dumprom was initially written to assist in figuring out what I did not know about the rom, so it tries to figure out stuff that is unknown. Later I added the code to extract files to it. Maybe I should split dumprom in one research tool, to do a detail examination of the rom, and one tool to only extract files.
Most files in rom are compressed, that is why they are more than 33M when uncompressed.
ok i understande the messages...
now here is what i did
ran ssnap and got a picture of the OS and did a compare and have a list of entries i want to add to registru and a folder with bunch of subfolders that need to be added on install
not sure how step 6 goes.. to convert the files to .reg and .txt and how/where do i add my files and registry entries....
any tips...
update...
i did fdf2reg and made a .reg file added my entries in there and then ran reg2fdf to recreatre the fdf...
i hope this is right now i need to fig out how to specify where the files i want added are to be copied i mean some go into windows some in new filders that need to be created...
plz tell me how to go forward.
you don't need to re-create the fdf file again, mkrom does it for you, you only need to take care of the default.reg file under cfg
I am not sure whether you can put files under directories other than \windows only. I did not try that. I suppose all files under /files1 and /files2 go to \windows directory just they happen to locate in different memory location in ROM

NEW_visual multilang/multidevice/multibuild kitchen for last bepe rom-tools!!V.12.6.3

Hello everyone, put my old kitchen, a little 'restored.
IMPORTANT: To build a good rom, you 1st have to dump an original rom for your preferred device, to have all files needed to build it after (header.xml, splash.xml ecc...)
List of Features:
Check rom version for exchange for new payloads (tested on hd2 rom 3.14 and it worked!), some minor adjustments, the editor, RGU, app.ref etc ..., now always starts as an administrator.
to test it, dump an original rom and then have fun customizing!
New style, new tricks at runtime, new tools for dumping and building !!!!! (Libnb.dll!)
Fixed bugs on inclusion radio.nb and splash.nb !!!!!
Import into .\ext, old-style packages, OEMpack, EXTPack (and also from Cab files
in the context menu is also remodule package (from files to module!) and re-file package (from modules to files!); other bugs solved!
Rapi connection problem solved with device in activesync and remove ring tones, images by default!:
Feature on delete files (ringtones, images (wallpapers) and other images (avatars) from a folder in oem \ langdevice \ .....)

.\TOOLS folder
Inside the folder .\tools, you will find a new folder: registry_tweaks. The .\registry_tweaks folder includes some sample files. Replace and/or add .REG and .PROVXML files, name the files properly and the .REG files will be added as registry entries, the .PROVXML will be renamed as ****. ZZZZ_ provxml, as files are added. provxml, precisely in the rom and run when you first start to customize the rom as you like
The kitche includes two context menus for adding new .REG or .PROVXML files, edit them or delete if unused one!
Also includes new versions of DSM_editor and implantxip (no fake virus info about, someone in previous version, not me, inserted automatic "admin execution" with a kind of utility, into my implantxip.exe!, and maybe that "trick", was detect as fake virus, now, with my original updated version of implantxip.exe, my kaspersky doesn't find anything!!!!!)
Note
DSM_editor and implantxip (no fake virus info about, someone in previous version, not me, inserted automatic "admin execution" with a kind of utility, into my implnatxip.exe!, and maybe that "trick", was detect as fake virus, now, with my original updated version of implantxip.exe, my kaspersky doesn't find anything!!!!!)

Excellent work as always ervius.
Grazie mille.
^.^
That might come in handy for some ppl.
For my part, I'm used to command line as my primary WS is linux based. As a matter of fact, i prefer it.
@Ervius: Do you have any experience in coding for unix/linux?
At some point, pof coded a htc-flasher kitchen, but it was mostly wrappers for the windows programs.
Most of the tools we use for ROM building have their source code available, so...
Anyways, I'm off.

GREAT!!
I'm testing it in my kitchen just today. I'm looks fantastic. Thanks!!.
If now you can integrate your XIP porting tool then.....

this is a alpha version, and stucks on platformrebuilder.exe execution, , but when I have some time more maybe insert all inside, xipporterex and other tools of mine!
can you post it on rapidshare please, megaupload is a menace. thanks.
In any case this is a great work!!.
I've been checking folders structure and adapte it to Spanish (or another language) is really easy. I'm preparing a new ROM, but as soon as I post it in a Spanish site, I'm going to 'play' with this application and l'll inform you about troubles. Thanks !!
On the other hand (I know this is not the best post to speak about), Your active sync killer is not working fine in 2.xx ROMs. Are you preparing a new one? Do you have a solution?. Thank a lot in advance.
Kind regards!!!

you can adapt, but add other languages, near 0409\ and 0410 folders you can add 04xx\ or o8xx\ all you want, the kitchen at start recognizes how many into, and show all into combobox, you only have to choice in witch language want build the rom
for activesync killer, what you refer to, mine or the original by eliasweb???
bye!
I've detected this trouble in both. I've test them in several ROMS based on 'oficial' v.2.xx. I'm going to look for your post and follow this trouble there. Thanks.

this looks better and better. I dearly hope that it will come with some kind of manual.. anything... just to know what to press and which button does what...

visual kitchen version beta1 released at 1st post, and see all ROM\ structures.....
Hi ervius, thanks for your tool.
I was trying beta1.
I have a couple of questions:
i've tried to import a package (generated with package creator) , I browse to the folder containing it, but after the right-click-> import package, it doesn't appear in the list of the applications.
I see it has been copied to the EXT folder but nothing more.
Also importing a package resets all the choices I made on what packages to include/exclude
If you need more details just ask
Thanks
A.
very nice, I will test this this week, and see if i notice anything. once again thank you

[SOLVED] Errorlevel: -1073741819

Hello everyone I have a small issue here hope someone knows how to fix it or if someone had this error before what did you do to fix it??
Well Im Using Ervius kitchen and it was working fine, I'm able to cook with SYS 21901 but if I want to do an upgrade and use something else like 23563, 24611 or others it gives me this error: -1073741819
This error usually comes up when I hit the create rom button, but at first everything looks fine but in the middle of the process it tells me that RomKitchenExecutable and Imgfsfromdump.exe are not responding and it just shut down.
Thanks to everyone in advance

have you edited your kitchen_build_rom.bat? the files didnt change attribute by themselves i dont think, im guessing you may have edited your bat file to give hidden attribute to your dump and possibly didnt do it right. having the attributes changed to hidden in some files will cause platformrebuilder to crash. maybe try using ervius's bat unedited and unhiding all the files you said you werent able to change the hidden attribute, but you can with the unhide.bat i posted a few pages back. again im just guessing, maybe it will help.

This solution didn't help, I did edit the .bat file but only to change the device name, and add REM to the line specified and still it gives me that those programs from the kitchen have stop working or not responding and it stops the process.
where did you get your new SYS???
is from PPCkitchen format?
download another pkg diferente source...
post your build log

the new SYS I have been obtaining them from these page
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1710334&postcount=55
also the SYS from our friend NRGZ28 doesnt work for me it gives me the same error and keeps telling me that those applications from the kitchen are not responding ( or Crash) but its weird because I can cook with 21901 but I cannt add or if I select another SYS it gives me the error.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=650783
P.S. On the build lod it shows that is missing alot of modules and files and thats because at that moment is when it gives me the warning that the romkitchenexecutable.exe and imgfsfromdump.exe are not respnding
mmmm
weird did you check that modules are fine?
i suggest you to use the PPC kitchen file attribs.. i will post them at night to edit the bat.. so the kitchen will be ready to accept PPCkitchen attribs SYS
Ok Thanks I will be waiting bud. I will keep messing with it, and reading to see if I can find the answer to this issue now.
Insert the following as third line into the kitchen_build_rom.bat:
Code:
attrib -a -r -h -s /s
so the kitchen_build_rom.bat reads like this:
Code:
@echo off
cd..
attrib -a -r -h -s /s
REM........................
set IMGSTART=0
set ULDR=ULDR
.
.
.
Do not fiddle around with attributes anywhere else ...
cheers
Cool thanks i forgot this totally

Thanks, Am testing right now to see if this solves the issue.
Found the answer to my problem, I just needed to add the EXT packages for 6.5 and 6.5x . I was using the same ones that the kitchen created when I dump the rom. I found this out by doing alot of tests between a good kitchen already set up and mine ...
Can someone provide me the link to obtain a clean set of EXT packages for Rhodium and that are 6.5 and 6.5x plz
That my friend is hard... so hard... and the PKGS hunt is a task that we must to do by ourselves you know.... if you search as "Tachi phone canvas EXT PKG" you will find something interesting like a thread with the cab.. so you need to convert it... then maybe in the same or another post or thread there is the OEM and you need to transform it to EXT there arent all full of EXT PKGS repository you know... thats the Cooking world bud search for ressolution too
Thanks
Just to let everyone know I also found out that on my dumped EXT files from my stock rom the GlobalSmartDialing makes the Ervius Kitchen to crash if you erase them or make them NOT to be inlcuded in the rom will solve the issue.

[TUT] Beginers guide to cooking for the TG01

Welcome to my tutorial in cooking for the TG01.
I shall no longer be updating this thread, so please feel free to post and make any contribution you see fit.
This is meant to be a very simple, plain English guide to cooking.
With this in mind i will not be showing you how to port a new sys/xip or any of the more advanced features like sense
lets just see if we can dump, modify, build then flash a working, booting ROM for now.
This tutorial is only what i have learnt whilst beginning to cook my own ROM, so if you find a mistake or have something to offer feel free to post
If you have a question that your going to post, please please search the forum first, i learnt a lot of what i know from threads that have nothing to do with the TG01 or even the type of kitchen we're using. So as the rules state - Search before posting, Thank you.
Modifying the ROM of a Windows Mobile is dangerous to your devices health. If you mess it up it can be fatal.
The information contained in this tutorial is only as far as i am aware. Don't blame me if you brick it.
Having said that, i have never had a problem the short pin method couldn't fix.
You will need the attached .zip file, it contains the kitchen and associated applications.
In this tutorial i am using L3V5Ys kitchen, cab converter by Jason8, Package converter by Total Fire and Package Creator by Ervius.
So thanks to them and everyone in the XDA community for making this kind of thing possible.
1. Dump a ROM
1.1. Download the ROM you wish to modify. I suggest Miros miROM4, its clean and fast without any clutter.
1.2. Extract the ROM and place the resulting .tsw file in the BASE folder in the kitchen. Then rename it "TG01WP_5005000176.tsw"
1.3. Run dump.bat and wait for it to finish, this could take a little time depending on you PC, it may be worth making a tea as it seems to take longer if you watch it.
1.4. You should now have some new folders in your kitchen, for now the only one were interested in is SYS.
2. Modify a ROM (Removal of packages)
2.1 Open your kitchen folder then open the SYS folder,
2.2 You should now be faced with a window with lots of folders in it. The folders are called packages.
2.3 Delete the package Entertainment and its associated packages (Entertainment, Entertainment_DPI_192, Entertainment_Lang_0409 and Entertainment_Lang_0409_DPI_192)
2.4 This has effectively deleted the games that ship with your chosen ROM,
2. Modify a ROM (Adding packages)
2.1 Open your kitchen folder then open the SYS folder.
2.2 Copy the package from its source to the SYS folder. Remember that for this kitchen it must be an OEM\old type package (see post #4)
2.3 Thats it, you added software to your custom ROM.
2. Modify a ROM (modify existing package)
2.1 Open your kitchen folder then open the SYS folder.
2.2 Open the folder titled "Redist_dpi_192_resh_480_resv_800"
2.3 Replace welcomehead.192.png with the one in the downloaded zip.
2.4 That's it, when you boot your new ROM it should show the new welcome screen.
3. Building and flashing a ROM
3.1 Run "2. build no XIP port_no auto.bat" (this is the original build.bat, modified by myself to skip the port xip and BuildOS/auto parts)
3.2 When the cmd prompt opens press any key
3.3 When BuildOS opens check the packages you wish to install then click the green arrow in the top left.
3.4 When BuildOS has finished, close it and the cmd window will carry on opening and closing other programs as it goes. You do not need to touch any thing till it has finished and it asks you to hit enter.
3.5 Assuming you pressed enter when it asked, the cmd window will have now closed.
3.6 Go into your kitchen folder and you should have a new file called "TG01WP_00.tsw" This is your ROM.
3.7 Copy "TG01WP_00.tsw" to a folder called PRG on your storage card (if its not there then create it) and then run SDDL+ or use the short pin method to flash it.
3.8 That should be it, you should now have the rom you started with but minus solitaire.
The Kitchen:
In your "Kitchen" you will find some folders and some files. They all relate to either the ROM ityself,
or the tools used to edit/dump/create the ROM.
BASE - This is the folder in which you put the rom you are dumping
OEM - This is the folder where the Toshiba part of the ROM would be if it was an official Rom that was being dumped,
however when dumping a cooked ROM this folder will be empty as a cooked ROM cannot be dumped correctly by the tools available
and all packages are put in the SYS folder. This will not affect the output, and the OEM packages can be left in the sys folder.
If you dump a cooked ROM you will need to create the OEM folder as BuildOS panics without it, even if its empty it needs to be there.
SYS - This folder contains the dumped ROM separated into packages
ROM - This folder contains the xip, boot.rgu and boot.hv. For this tutorial we won't be working with anything here.
TOOLS - This is where the exe's are that make up the kitchen, you don't need to touch these, the .bat files do it all for you.
Temp - This is the kitchens working folder, you don't need to go here unless there are problems building the ROM but that is beyond the scope of this tutorial.
Packages: (there are 2 types, EXT and OEM, our kitchen can only handle OEM so thats what i'll be discusing)
Each package contains an element of the ROM. For example the BROWSING package contains the parts of the ROM required for internet browsing.
For a package to be usable it requires certain things
Required:
.dsm file - This is to complicated for the scope of this tut so for now just accept that this file is necessary and should never be deleted. All dsms must have a unique name.
That is all a package needs to be a package, though without any files in it won't actually do anything.
Optional:
.rgu file - This file contains the reg entries for the package in question and its name will be the same as the .dsm file in your package.
initflashfiles.txt / initflashfiles.dat - This file tells the PPC where to put the files that are within the package, ie. a short cut to a program in the start menu.
NOTE without an initflashfiles.txt all items within the package will go to the Windows folder.
option.xml - Holds information relevant to the package
The files you wish to install, without them its pretty pointless.
Packages often have other packages associated to them, for example the Entertainment package also has Entertainment_DPI192, Entertainment_Lang_0409 and Entertainment_Lang_0409_DPI_192.
Where Entertainment is the package, Entertainment_DPI_192 has the files specifically for our screen size, Entertainment_Lang_0409 has the files for our language (0409 is WWE)
and Entertainment_Lang_0409_DPI_192 has files that are for our lang and our screen size.
Modifying a .rgu file:
.rgu files contain registry information for the package they are in. If you wish to modify this data then you can do so with notepad, though i recommend downloading Notepad2. If you open a .rgu file and don't understand what's in it then you need to go learn about windows registry editing first. I am assuming that if you are looking at building a custom ROM you already know about reg editing.
CAB Converter:
This program is used to convert a .cab file into a package to be cooked into a ROM
1.Open CAB_Converter.exe
2.Click "add a cab" and browse to your cab or drag and drop your cab into the window
3.Click on the text representing your cab at the top of the window so its selected.
4.Click CAB->OEM, and wait till its finished. Should only be a few seconds.
5.Your package will be in the CAB Converter folder in the converted OEM folder
Package Converter:
Our kitchen only supports OEM\Old type packages, so what if we want to use an EXT\Visual type package? Well Total Fire kindly made and distributed a tool that converts from one to another.
The program is fairly self explanatory but i'll quickly cover converting from a visual to an old package.
1.Open the converter, then click "select" where the greyed text say package,
2.Browse to and open your visual package.
3.click "Convert VTO", now wait till you see "Conversion Complete".
4.Your now usable package will be in the same directory as the visual package with the text "PACKAGE TF" added to the title.
Package Builder:
If you wish to create your own packages, this is the tool to do it.
1.Create a folder named whatever you want your package to be named
2.Add to it the files you want
3.Add to it a .reg file if required
4.Open package Creator, in the bottom right you can choose ITA or ENG.
5.Click open package and browse to the folder you created.
6.Now the initflashes.txt options page appears, here you can select the .exes in your package and choose where to create short cuts. You will need to click apply on each one.
7.Now click complete package.
8.The creator will now create a .dsm file, a .rgu file with your .reg file settings in, an initflases.txt file and an option.xml file within the folder turning it into a package.
9.This package can now be used in your kitchen.

Its better to grab hold of one of the existing opera packages on the forum, I never successfully converted it to a working package. Just seemed to be the opera cab as i have no problems with any other. I think ninjaduck does a nice version with flash and the like already in.
I never saw that particular error myself though. Sorry I can't be more help.
So long and thanks for all the fish.
I will no longer be updating this or any of my ROM threads as its upgrade time and I've got a shiny new Desire HD, my trusty TG01 has been retired and i'm off to have a bodge with Android.
The TG01 forum is a nice little place with only a hand full of regular contributors/posters but its always friendly and development seems to move along at a steady pace, so thanks to all its members for that.
To those who PM me, feel free to continue as i will still be around here somewhere and will help in anyway i can.
See you later.

Hi Lee!
TG01 community will miss your contributions! In case your retired TG01 lures you back to development, I will keep my eyes peeled. I hope you like your new android, but in case, Winmo is missed (I wish!), do come back!
Hi.
Leeston2379 will not be doing any changes here any more so I allow myself to upload my version of his kitchen here without creating new thread.
What has been changed ?
"Virgin" kitchen was only for packages modification without any pagepool changes or xip porting. Leeston2379 was basing on l3v5y kitchen which have certain bug. Interestingly this bug was "not active" as far as old ( original ) xip.bin was taken in .tsw file creation.
There are 4 batch files for new system building:
a) 2. build_without_xip_port.bat - the same as original leeston2379 batch but with fixed bug although here it is not "active"
b) 2. build_without_xip_port_pagepool_set.bat - allows to set pagepool size
c) 2. build_with_xip_port.bat - like original but allows to port new xip
d) 2. build_with_xip_port_pagepool_set.bat - like original but allows to set pagepool size and port new xip
I did not utilize automatic execution via for example
AutoExecAndClick.exe /launch "xipport.exe" /clickbutton "dump xip.bin" /clickbutton "write maps" /clickbutton "make pkgs" /kill
In my oppinion it is buggy . There are any timing races or something other causing any strange errors from time to time. User has to like in original l3v5y kitchen press different buttons in xipport software.
Thanks Mangasora for his post concerning porting xip

[solved] No Customisation + Welcome.exe [email protected]

Device flashes - Device boots - Device runs the Welcome.exe, but then no Customisation.
Iv recently added some EXT packages into my rom. i made them myself from .cab's with cab2ext. ive tested the .cab's before adding to my rom, they do work. but some programs that did work before adding the new EXT's now dont because of no customisation eg, Task Manager - the one on the today screen and also Windows Live. (iv only noticed these two at the moment but there will be more, to be honest i cant be arsed looking for programs that work or dont work when its quite obvious its because of no Customisation, if i fix that, they will work again.. simples )
Anyway...
I opened the new EXT packages ive added and checked all the files.. eg, .dat .reg and all "FILES" files, i even checked the .lnk's and all seems ok. i then checked them again.. yet everything still looks ok, but something is seriously f*cked!
Also another problem, a wierd one..
When i Soft-Reset/Restart the device, it boots up with the Welcome.exe again? (the Welcome.exe is meant to only run the once and then dissable )
Help? iv almost got my rom the way i want it - ive been working on this rom for 2months and i dont want to start building the rom from scratch...
..again! pmsl
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong, if this has happened to you, how did you fix it?
Thanks!
Rn
Check your runcc.lua, then the conf*.txt files you include in your rom, then all the commands you execute inside them.
One of these commands go wrong in your first boot and so you are stuck on customization.
If you use xda_uc or another user customization method, check those scripts as well.
It may happen, for example, if you try to install a cab and for some reason it fails.
If in your recent packages you overwrite one of your conf*.txt file, this could be the cause.
Ciao
...
cheers dude, thanks for your time and help, i think i understand what you meen..

This happened to me at least 20 times, or more
Let's check together what happen at first boot, if I'm wrong anybody else will correct me.
1) files are moved from \windows to other directory according to your app.dat / initflashfiles.dat.
2) .provxml files are parsed to change config values or filesystem
3) welcome is executed, but this command don't stop startup so:
3a) autorun.exe or runcc is executed too to customize rom: these package runs according to the commands inside various config*.txt files in oem packages or sometimes in ext packages
4) user configuration, usually included as a call inside one of conf*.txt files is executed. If you don't use xda_uc, user customization should follow the same syntax as autorun/runcc
5) Last conf*.txt file should include at least a
LOCK: Disabled and a reset
At this point you should have completed the welcome wizard. If not, and your calibration data is not in registry, your are prompted again with welcome wizard at second boot.
Common errors during boot sequence are:
- wince.nls is missing
- app.dat / initflashfiles.dat error, such as creating subfolders inside non existent folders or statements not in unicode format
- registry / provxml errors during setup of welcome.exe itself, for example you disable the whole welcome wizard but don't write calibration data into registry
- chain error inside conf*.txt files, such as config.txt calls config_operator.txt which call config.txt, generating a loop
- a cab or command inside a config*.txt files cannot be installed, for example for lack of space or a missing certificate
What I usually do in these cases is:
- check platformrebuild log file for errors
- save my last tmp/dump folder to check what is really inside the rom and what is really overwritten by what
- If you can connect by activesync to device before reboot, explore the device itself, it's processes and registry
- recompile the rom putting semaphores inside app.reg files, .provxml files, config*.txt file. I usually add an ext package to be included as the last one (ZZZ_Claros_Fix) where I put a special app.reg, a .provxml and a modified copy of config.txt, config_operator.txt, config_end.txt etc etc.. If you don't have a diamond, you can boot without sdcard to avoid any sd_config.txt error
Starting a new kitchen from scratch for me is at least 20 days of work, I'd spend a day more finding a solution
Ciao

V2 working again, Cheers!
*i started setting up a new kitchen then thought f*ck that!
Rn
Are you saying that you were cooking in mortscript, and the autorun.exe file from the mortscript package over-wrote the one from your OEM package? I think that happened to me once a while ago. I just left out the one from mortscript; I've never needed it before, anyway.
...
yeah a mortscript called Autorun.exe over-wrote my OEM Autorun.exe
i deleted it the mortscript, everythings sound now
