No Amazon account? - Kindle Fire General

Hi Everyone,
Can anyone verify that the Kindle Fire is still usable even without an Amazon account? I'm afraid that this may be an issue for me as I'm not in the US.
Thanks!

I believe it is intended for US customers.

[Q] Urgent Question on N10 and Play Gift Cards

If I have a Nexus 10 in Mexico, is there any way I can buy apps and install them on the tablet in Mexico without having to do VPN work? Any ideas at all? Gift cards would be optimal, but not necessary. Im open to any idea.
Thanks.
Do you have a credit card linked to your Google account? I'm a bit ignorant to your issue. Are people not able to buy apps from the play store in mexico?
Yes i do but every time i try and purchase this i am blocked by google saying "Fraud Prevention". I was wondering if I could just have someone buy it for me in the US on my account and install it in Mexico?
Try buying from the play store via a computer browser. If that doesn't work you are probably using a stolen card?

Travelling with Nexus 10, accessing US Play Store?

I can't seem to find an answer for this in Google. Was wondering if anyone could help me figure it out.
My mother wants to buy a Nexus 10. She lives in Luxembourg, but spends about 2 months every year visiting us in the US. (She is here now, preparing to buy tablet). She wants to access the US Play Store, both here and at home in Lux. Is this possible? What would we need to do it set it up that way? Is using a US credit card enough or are we going to need some kind of Market Enabler app? VPN/Proxy?
Thanks!

Which makes me wonder, when I go to visit her in Lux, will I be able to use my Nexus 10 there and access the play store?
Thanks!

You would be able to access the playstore from most countries. The country would remain the one to which your google account is linked and I guess so will the currency.
For example, google movies weren't available where I live around till a month ago. They wouldn't show up on my play store earlier. However, they would show up on my sister's playstore when she visited from London. In simple terms, she was accessing Playstore UK from New Delhi, India.
In answer to the question about the US playstore regarding your mum's tab, I guess you will have to buy a tablet preferably with a US credit card (though this might be overlooked) and definately register it to a US based gmail account. Be sure to register a credit card on the playstore and google account which works in the US.

I'm afraid the above answer may be wrong; it certainly is for Google Play Books. I live in the US, have an Android tablet (Asus TF101 running a Jellybean ROM, tested and working fine with Google Play and with numerous purchases in the US), and it was activated and regularly used for well over a year in the US. My Google account to which it is linked has been used regularly in the US for quite a few years. And to top it all off, the account is linked to a credit card issued in the US, by a US credit union.
Despite all of the above, when I went to purchase a book while travelling overseas on a two week vacation recently, the purchase was denied on the grounds that I was not in the US. It may work briefly, I don't know; I'd been overseas for maybe 9-10 days when I tried the purchase.
However, it was utter childs' play to circumvent this. All I had to do was buy VPN access (it so happens I already had it), go in through the VPN to get a US IP address, and hey presto... The Play store let me make the very same book purchase it had just refused me.
So yes, a VPN is the answer. I used WiTopia, which is US$50 annually or US$6 per month.

This thread might make clearer which credit card to use. You can read the credit card related part.
As for the reply by the person above me, as he has tried purchasing from google playstore while travelling he might have a better idea about that, though I am sure US playstore, movies, music, books etc would be available to you abroad as UK playstore is for my sister. As per what he says, buying from them might be a problem.

Oh, yes. They're available abroad, they just don't let you buy (at least some) products.
Thanks again
When I travel led to Canada it showed me the Canadian play store and I could not access the US play store.

[OFFICIAL] Fire TV *UK Thread*

Got a prime membership trial so decided to take up Amazon's offer for the Fire TV @ £49.00 so now just need to wait for it to arrive which is a while to go.
Has anyone else pulled the trigger and brought one of these from the UK store yet?
At £49 it was rude not to Can't wait to get it plumbed in, currently using a WDTV or PS3 for my netflixing and Amazon prime.
Hopefully it will work with usa content with unotelly and or a usa Amazon account will be a bit disappointed if it's uk content or nothing
Ordered -D,
Will try Root, and then either unotelly/VPN to usa to get us content (private owned vpn FAST )
There's some talk of a new currently unrootable firmware version 51.1.2.0
I wonder if the UK ones have this version already installed....
I will post this in here as-well
I decided to send them an email regarding the "region change" of the existing USA Fire TV's,
I asked for my message to be forwarded onto the relevant team involved with the Fire TV for a more appropriate response,
Take of this what you will but they have told me that it will be possible, First you will need to migrate your account, Any purchases made will also transfer, Then once the device has launched in your country, in this case the UK you then need to look out for a firmware update.
They say they will put it up on their help pages.
So that's good news, Sad that it will be a firmware update but not unexpected, Guess I will wait till the time comes and consider my options. At this stage I could not give up my root
Craig
So it looks like then if we have a USA or UK amazon account then it will follow that which is cool as I have 2 accounts on amazon for each country in question.
Saw spotify on the UK amazon page but not on the USA one though??
I have bought one and i have one from US and i am using unblock us snd i have netflix.hulu.nbc sports extra.fox soccer.bein sports. Premier league pass and xbmc all working perfectly. The only reason you would change to UK one is to chsnge the time settings .

You have 2 options, you can purchase Plex with your UK Amazon account (I used the voice search to find it) or if you want the latest version of Plex you can download it and side load it onto the Fire TV. The benefit of purchasing the app through Amazon is that you can then access Plex from the top Amazon menu's - if it is side loaded you have go delving into a few sub menus to get to it.
I first side loaded the app, but have since purchased the app.

Thats a shame. Oh well.
Im definitely looking at one for me old man though, just for XBMC.
Hoping they get iPlayer integrated for it by release, and of course a rootable FW then Ill jump aboard as well. Cracking piece of kit the more I look at it.
I bought one of these to use xbmc on but now that i see spmc is on the amazon app store i will try that first. From what i've read it is an xbmc fork so addons will work and it can be updated through the amazon store.

Amazon and bestbuy in kahootz

Ever since I blocked the Amazon links in my router about 80% of the time it also blocks the bestbuy website. Does this happen for anyone else?

Best Buy servers might be hosted by Amazon EC2 services and that might be it?

Warning: If you have a Prime member as a secondary adult in someone's household...

Do not change your address under "Managed Content and Device" in Amazon settings to download apps from other regions, you would lose your Prime membership when you switch back to your original household. I found this out the hard way when I did that to download some UK-specific apps.
If you add a phony U.K address, you can bypass that problem. That's what I did. Just make a U.K address up. I still have my Prime. Good heads-up for others to be aware of if they do add U.K apps to their U.S Fire TV.

Can you share the detailed steps how you did that?
I also used an UK address, adding UK apps to the US Fire TV was perfectly fine, but as soon as I switched back to an US address, it took me out of my Prime household.
My impression that is that this is only an issue if you are a secondary household member to someone else's Prime membership. Were you added as a secondary member to someone's household that has Prime?
Yes, I was added as a secondary household member to someone else's prime membership. The process on how I got it to work on my end without losing my prime membership is a bit hazy. All I can remember is after changing the country settings on the Amazon Website, I then purchased / added the U.K apps I wanted using a U.K address, I've now got a U.S and U.K address on my U.S Amazon account. After that, I just switched back to the U.S location on the Amazon website and still continue to have the benefits of prime. Probably the same thing you did. Have only done the adding of U.K TV apps once, but frankly you've got me kind of scared in attempting to add any further U.K apps by switching location to the U.K and back to the U.S in fear of losing Prime.
