How to use overclock_archos_gen8.ko - Gen8 General

The latest file in urukdroid development, related to oc, is this file overclock_archos_gen8.ko . How can i use it?

Please find the history that why Sauron created "overclock_archos_gen8.ko"
in beneath thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908744&page=218
But I still do not know How to use overclock_archos_gen8.ko?
Maybe only Sauron can answer your question!

Sorry to be blunt.
As this is ATM only an experimental version ( that s why it is in the dev thread ) , you should only use it, if you can find the information yourself.
If you do it wrong, you could kill Urukdroid or even the device.

Devs of MIUI to u8800 who wants create a team or help with the translation to MIUI u8800 ROM ?
I'm tired of see several threads showing the same .Lets all work for the same objective.
I can do turkish translation.
And i just want to clearify something. Making port with using stockwell release doesn't make any progress on our statement. Even i can do that for myself. Point is developing something, fix issues and optimize performance&stability.
@Özgürce thats one of my objective .I dont want only use stockwell script to compile thats to easy , i want fix bugs , create a greater port , include some kernels etc.
Well, as ret4rt's one is the only one that seems to work properly then why don't you all contribute to that one? The post stockwell thread is a perfect place as it's then obvious that this is the place to go for continued development.
We just need a single point to go to for all things Miui, not multiple conflicting ROMs
I think I could do finnish translation.
@langers1972
I think they are both working throught PMs and that thread. Atleast ret4rd shared his WiFi fix there.

[Q] How to develop ROM?

Hi,
I want to know how can I make my own ROM using paul's ICS sources or build it from the CM9 sources, which software I need to use and is this tut good for beginning?
www(.)theunlockr(.)com/2010/03/26/how-to-create-your-own-custom-rom-for-android-part-1-setting-up-the-kitchen/?
PS: I also want to add the reason why I don't contact with paul is that I wanted to learn & develop it only for me & mine friends
Ofc. for X8 and on nAa kernel ;3
do you know JAVA atleast?
EDIT: wait, you want only to make the build, or to work on the rom and on the source?
EDIT2: Wrong section btw, you should asked on Q&A's
Java on basic level, I do not know any of it's APIs but I can learn them ( I don't know Android API too )
C/C++ on intermediate level
First build it from source, after successful modify source and compile ROM.
MOD: Please move to Q&A if possible, thanks.
You could read my thread (look at my signature). I wrote all the stuff you need to know of ROM-compiling. There's also a thread about kernel making.

Thanks at all, you got the point. I'll try to compile it using yours tut and post result here And one more thing, developing CM9 for X8 build for which phone i need to base on? And where I can get hmmm... X8 Driver sources? Adreno libs and others?
Right now we don't have sources for X8. You need to port most of libs. You could also paul-xxx's drivers from his github. Good luck If you have some questions PM me, I'll help if I'll be able to.

doixanh based his GingerDX ROM - based on Gingerbread - on the Hero source tree. If I recall correctly I read somewhere that a CM9 port to the HTC Hero exists; that might be your best shot as the phone is about the same specs as the X8.
And as eagleeyetom wrote: You either use paul-xxx's drivers or you reverse engineer the Eclair drivers and write them anew from scratch (if your thought was going into the direction of the kernel) - there's no CM9 port for the X8. Your best option would be to try and find devices having a matching hardware component and porting the drivers from there - but chances are pretty slim that other phones use the same hardware SEMC stuffed into the X8.
---------- Post added at 09:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:03 PM ----------
Update: paul-xxx also maintains a GIT repo with a msm7227 kernel ...
paul-xxx / semc-kernel-msm7227-ics
EDIT: Along with some other interesting repos ...
- android_hardware_qcom_camera
- Xperia-TI-Wlan
- android_device_semc_msm7x27-common
These three at least seem to relate to the X8 "Shakira"
Thanks all for help, now I have some basic workaround with this
And one off topic question
ICS is running on 3.0.3 kernel, yes? So why we don't try to port it for X8 and using old 2.6.xx?

It seems the genuine Google AOSP ICS is running Linux 3.0.8
Porting the Kernel might turn into a huge effort. The ABI of 2.6.29 and 3.0 are not really compatible, so the kernel drivers would need to be ported to the CM9 3.0.x series - in case a simple patching them into the kernel tree and trying to compile bombs out with tons of make errors.
Apart from that - the main problem with ICS on the X8 is that a whole lot of devices can't use a custom kernel as a change in the hardware (devices of 11W29 and newer) prevents boot loader unlock.
We could try to see if the CM9 kernel could be slapped into shape ... I got a Quad-Core Phenom II to tackle that task - if someone wants to help out in the research if some msm7227 / Shakira specific parts would need to be patched into the source tree because they aren't part of it.
EDIT: Even the official CM repo uses Linux 2.6.37.6 as their kernel, and the progress on the FXP Kernel seems to have come to a halt; at least I can't see any new stuff in the -shakira repos.
LG GT-540 has ICS on 2.6.35 kernel. Maybe we could try to port Arc's kernel. Maybe this one? Recommend me some C/C++ books to learn basic stuff
You want this book's in english or you prefer in our native? ;3

This is a rather tricky question ...
If you do as I did simply Google up a C/C++ Reference/Tutorial (i.e. http://www.acm.uiuc.edu/webmonkeys/book/c_guide/ or http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/) and get going ... you already got gedit to code up .c files, and gcc is also part of your Linux distro to try and compile your "hello_world.c" You could also Google for Online Classes (in the like of http://www2.its.strath.ac.uk/courses/c/) and pick whatever suits you.
However, if you want to read real books ... look through the offers of Addison Wesley and pick what you think is the best book for you. You could also hit up your closest public library and see what they have in store (may be cheaper than buying in case you don't have much money to spend) - or, in case you study, you may want to look into your University's library.
Of course you could also start off with the usual "C/C++ for Dummies" or "Teach yourself <whatever> in 7|14|21|30 days"
Polish would be awesome ;P
Best, simply writed polish C/C++ tutorial, one of the best www(.)warsztat(.)gd/tutorials.php?x=category&id=18
In adddition you can search for ( it's a big ebook ) Symfonia C++ Grębosza ( Symphony in C++ ), you can find it on chomikuj.pl but if U want I can upload it somewhere for you
And if you will have any problems with C/C++ you can write to my GG number 10037533 or PM me here

[Q] Hide status bar ICS

Hello!
I saw this topic, interesting - might change and apply this method to Tabunay 3.0.1 ?
Use this method without changing anything - brick resulted in a Acer A500.
p.s. i apologize for my English )
Test Hide for ICS Bar ?? anyone wanna test it on iconia?
I Read in the dev forum somewhere that none of the Honeycomb bar hide methods work with ICS at this time.. I would also think this would be more difficult with the acer ring incorporated in ics. only think i could suggest if you want to try the link you posted is to do a FULL ANAND IN CWM/RA Recovey and give it a try .
If you do let us know the results . Thanks for the link
its not possible
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...nb29kbW9vZGRyb2lkLmdlc3R1cmVjb250cm9sZGVtbyJd
so, if your resulting in a brick (or crash), chances are acer has done some hackery in the frameworks or the settings apk, that in turn is being stripped out when you install this.
basically what this does, is create a setting in your settings app that is referenced in the framework that kills system ui. and restarts it respectively. this would be quite easy to implement (for example) cyanogenmod, or any source built rom for that matter.
it is unlikely this will work in a non source-built/ non-stock android rom, but you could further investigate by using adb logcat and tracing down the root of the crash.

Porting miui/lewa status and hopes toward our dev

Hi Bro & Sis,
Frankly speaking,Im bit confused about MIUI & LEWA OS porting status for our x8 ether its agains of XDA Rules or not.As me understand its like this:
-Porting isnt wrong if somebody do it from own rom resource(based own rom).
-Any tutorial & other source is open to anybody to used it as long as proper credit given.
So,me didnt see any wrong of it and me also wondering are there any of our DEV who has a own rom willing to do it if its legal.
Yes,we have many roms(MIUI & LEWA) out there but its based on somebody else rom which is not promising for development(bug fixing, better performance etc) because as I know beside its remain ori bugs its also bring new bugs & little lag of performance.
If anybody has diff point of view please share it to help me be more clear about regarding issue.
THANKS
Please read here for your reference.
Second, Mod roms will now be placed in the X8 Themes & Apps forum The threads will contain in the OP all the relevant permissions/credits along with links to the original rom thread and provided as a cwm update zip. This decision has been made after consultation with RD's/Developers/Senior members and this is there wishes so respect them

Actually the reason why colossus keep on closing such thread in development its because of the failure to comply this rules. I dont see any hard part in following that rule. Let me simplify.
Now you want to mod or port ROM? Here are some checklist.
1. If you will be using a based ROM. Please make sure you have proper permission from the base ROM developer. THIS IS A MUST.
Now you have permission eh?
So you can start modding/porting the ROM.
What if I didnt get permission?
Dont worry you can still mod/port that ROM but please do not share it here. In short it applies only for personal use.
2. If you already done porting then create a thread in X8 Themes & Apps. If your rom becomes popular and you apply your own fix etc. Then please contact the MOD so that the ROM will be moved to Development Section. (Ofcourse it will still undergo screening if that would fit on the Dev Section.
Now guys what is the hard part understanding those Rules implied?
back to bed zZZzzhh
Deedii,
By your statement,me understand this;
Porting rules is a same as modding/theming rules(must be place in x8 theme sec.)
As I know, this rules is for someone who modding/theming based on others rom because ori Dev usually not modding/theming their own rom & open a new thread.
If they did or add/remove something,we can call it a next updates.
Its make sense if someone porting based on others but how about porting based on own roms?
For example; How about if nAa porting MIUI based on his MiniCM?
Should its must place in theme sec too?
BTW,its help me clear a bit thats porting based on somebody else rom is NOT agains XDA rules if you put in theme sec. with a permission & proper credit.thanks
p/s:sorry if disturb u,its 8.00am in my place when I make this thread
i thinks the miui and lewa os remove because some warez or legal issue.
i agree that we can post rom with permission. but i think that miui os and lewa os is consider as theme bercause based from cm 7.1 or 7.2 etc. lasttime i saw ppl post that lewa os is theme ginger dx , meybe they need get permission.
p/s: something i no understands. for example , if some 1 take minicm7 with permission then add tweak like gps tweaks, bravia, other rom lib etc from other people is consider development??? nowday dev is like zoo many cm 7.1, 7.2
For example; How about if nAa porting MIUI based on his MiniCM?

Ofcourse it will be considered as development. If you based it with your own ROM then there is no issue since its yours. What are you confused about?

As stated no its not. Instead of posting the whole rom you can actually make a flashable zip on that tweak that you want to put.

embedded applications / remove-update

I want to ask a question of pure curiosity. Is it possible to uninstall Nokia Camera Extras from my phone? I'm using this ROM: Pdaimatejam Rom Wp7.8 OS 7.10.8858.136. It is not so important whether you succeed or not, but I ask because I have some time key from microsoft and I use the original application to receive relevant updates :cyclops: Thank you! I apologize for the spelling
