First off let me say I love this tablet and have pleasantly surprised by its build quality and over stability. Secondly let me say I am typing this thread from a $299 Acer laptop from Newegg with 5 bars of wifi strength and has never lost connectivity......ever. The frustration I feel from the iconia every 2 minutes saying I have lost internet connectivity is becoming unbearable. I am sitting about 15ft from my Fios Router and I am not quite sure why this continues to happen. I have run the wifi analyzer app and it is all over the place. Is this something that might be fixed with a future Acer update? Does it possibly have a bad wifi radio? I see a number of people with the same issues, however it does not seem widespread. I did have a xoom for a week or so with no wifi problems whatsoever. Should I return it? I am 4 days into my 14 day return window with Best Buy. I feel bad because the xoom I had before this had a bad screen and now I will be returning this for wifi issues. I just want to be sure before I go through the trouble. Thanks for the help in advance! This is the only forums I trust that have educated Devs.

Try a different wireless acess point. Pick up a $35 d-link or similar that is just an AP, and turn off the wireless in your router. I had that problem with a Speedstream modem/wireless/router when I got my Wii, only everything would lose connection with the Wii on. Some routers just suck.
You might try checking to see if your router has a firmware update first.
And just for giggles try turning 'n' off on your router.
Hi
Not related to the Acer A500 but I have the same problem with a Dell N5010 notebook.
At home with a Zyxel WIFI router everything is OK. At work with a D-Link 7000 wifi router it gives me every few minutes no internet access. Everything else (phone, other notebooks) work ok. So maybe it's the router a problem.
Hi there matey!
Dunno if it will help but i had many troubles with different routers over the years. One common thing i did notice was that not all devices gel too well with different encryption protocols. eg...TKIP, AES WPA2.
So have a try changing your wireless security settings or briefly leave it as an open network till you diagnose the problem.
Fingers crossed for ya matey!

+1. I had a problem with one of my Android devices not connecting that was solved by changing encription from WPA2 to AES. Try this first.
You're better off returning it than futzing around with it. You're well within your return date and if it not working, it's not going to work.
I have a FiOS router as well and have no issues.
Solution to Iconia Wifi connect/disconnect issue
Greetings members.
I am not a dev, I'm just I guy who loves his Android devices and now can't function without his Iconia.
I began experiencing the Iconia Wifi connect/disconnect issue this afternoon. After several reboots, I googled and found this thread. A lot of good tips but the issue has nothing to do with routers or WPA, and for the love of all that is holy, don't futz around with factory resets or replacing it. The issue is with the hardware and the Wifi drivers in the 3.1 update.
Thankfully, Acer has heard our pleas and has produced a patch and an update.
Looks like the link was blocked by admins (I have to post 7 more...), so just go to acer.com and navigate to the drivers and downloads section, navigate to the tablet/iconia tab/a500 section, go to Patch and download.
Extract and copy the zip file to the root of a microSD. There is actually a pdf with full instructions in the zip.
Bottom line, follow the instructions in the PDF and it WILL restore your Iconia Wifi.
Once the Wifi is back up, check for updates and there is another update to 3.1.
Apparently the 3.1 COM_GEN2 updates for most all countries had this flaw and these two updates are intended to fix the issues.
Just read through the PDF and then follow the steps and you'll be surfing again.
Thanks everyone for this site. Love the help and the insights. And, enjoy your A500's once again.
There are postings from some Xoom users who also had WiFi issues with the 3.1 update. Since the WiFi problems mainly started with the HC 3.1 update, I think it's safe to say most of the problems have been related to the O/S.
I'm using DD-WRT on my linksys wrt600n router at home and it's worked fairly well.

@Slaught3r - thanks, I've tried all the different roms and was beginning to think it was mine only.
I also get wifi connectivity problems, even after the pqtch.:'( I only got it yesterday, so it may be going back.
Could the issue instead be related to your routers? Maybe the channel you've got them configured on is crowded?
I'm just wondering because, well, I have not had any kinds of WIFI-issues at all on any of the ROMs I've tried except only where the channel has already been really crowded by several routers on the same channel.
Doubt it. I'm not using a custom rom on my A500 yet. Still the stock Acer rom. I have it configured to automatically connect me at home, work, and even at church of all places. Until yesterday, everything worked, then...weirdness. Without making changes to my routers, the patch (and subsequent OTA update) seems to have fixed the issue nicely.
Be sure to follow the instructions contained in the zip download from Acer. If you are on a custom Rom and are having this problem, most likely the dev will need to release a patch based on the Acer patch.
Thanks to Slaught3r for the info about the patch. It is important to follow the directions re: the buttons in the PDF exactly. The directions on the Acer support web site differ about when to release the power button versus the volume button, and those directions do NOT work.
Before you do this you may want to disable your router's wireless security, at least until you get the update installed.
@Slaught3r:
Acer doc suggests the problem was fixed in A500_4.010.10_COM_GEN2.
I am experiencing frequent but short Wifi disconnects with Build A500_4.010.11_COM_GEN2.
Can you tell me what build you applied your patch to and what you are now running? I am trying to decide if applying this patch is appropriate, considering I already have a later build.
Any further info from anyone reading this would be appreciated.

I had the same issue after the update to .11. However I solved my issue without the patch.
On the Acer website, I searched on wifi and came upon this link: "What can I do if I am unable to connect via WiFi after completing an Iconia Tab A500 system update?"
I tried the first suggestion of turning the wifi on and off with a restart. It didn't work. The second suggestion is to do a hardware reset with using a paper clip to the hardware switch. That worked; keep in mind that you need to perform that reset twice. The instructions are pretty clear cut.

@pbaker99
I was on Acer_A500_4.010.09_COM_GEN2 (pre patch where Wifi was acting up)
After the recent OTA, I'm on 4.010.10_COM_GEN2
My system shows "Up to date" so there is no .11 for me (at least not yet).
It has been a couple days since the patch and subsequent update from .09 to .10 and everything has been fine for my model. Sorry you are having the issues you are.
Many times the wifi problem is caused by incompatible router software. While you would think Acer would take care of this via software upgrade, they do so only for limited routers, apparently.
I just spoke to Dlink, the manufacturer of my router, downloaded updated firmware, works perfectly for two days.

Thanks for posting this. Luckily I have fixed my WIFI problems with the first step.
At some point my router had a problem that somehow stuffed up Iconia's WIFI. Just rebooting didn't help as it still couldn't connect to any network. Switching wifi off and rebooting did the trick for me.
Hi All,
I am not in the habit of creating new threads. But after searching and reading a lot of other posts I concluded I had to create one.
After upgrading to 3.2 my WiFi connection is lost after a few minutes. I have reset my router after the upgrade but that did not help.
This is what happens: I "cold- boot" my Iconia and after a few tries it finds my Router and establishes a connection. After a few minutes though, the connection gets "lost". It happens to me when I leave my Iconia on. If I leave the Iconia on it tells me after a few minutes that there is no Internet connection. It keeps searching, connecting and disconnecting untill I power of the Iconia. After restart the same occurs after a few minutes. If I shut down the Iconia and start it again, the same thing happens (after a few minutes).
I am using a TP-Link router WR1043ND with firmware 3.13.4 Build 110429 Rel.36959n
Anyone have similar issues? Is there any way to fix this apart from contacting Acer or downgrading to 3.1?
BTW My Iconia has build number Acer_A500_7.006.01_com_Gen1 and has not been rooted or otherwise altered.
Any help greatly appreciated....

Ton's of post about this. just google wifi drop out.
Some have fixed by changing in the router the lease time from forever to maybe a week or day. And that may not be your issue but worth a shot. Some have also fixed by using static ip for the tab. Their are others.
Hi Shaun298,
Will give your suggestion a try. Will let you know! Tx!!

There's a fix if you were rooted but since your not this post doesn't help you ha sorry.

Neither of the tip's require root, one change is in the router, and the other on the tab, root or no root.

The fix im referring to is applying a smali patch which i think requires root. Changing the router isnt always possible if its not your router and you dont have the user name and password and i dont know how well switching from dhcp to static works but the couple times i tried i still experienced dropouts
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
Did not think about campus routers and such. I had the wifi drop out with several roms. With security on the router open, I did not get the drop outs, but who wants to run like that. My fix was back to stock 3.1.
Hi All,
Thanks for your support and your suggestions.
Found a solution that seems to work over here: http://www.transformerforums.com/fo...neycomb-3-2-update-problems-tf.html#post34828 (Thanks, Shaun298)
Not sure how long WiFi stays on but I am hoping it sticks.
Weirdest thing: I did not even know you could reboot the Iconia like that :-S

still not working
After I upgraded my A500 to Taboonay 2.2 (which is GEN_1 of Android 3.2) I started experiencing this issue.
Wifi connection keeps dropping every other 5-10 minutes. After reading this thread I was unpatient to figure out if the proposed solution works for me.
Unfortunately wifi still keeps dropping after I booted with power button adn "-" volume bottom pressed and then rebooted.
I also tried deleting the existing connection manually after that and repeated the same procedure. Even after that when I added wifi network from the scratch it still keeps dropping like it was previously
Guys a week ago I bought my acer a500 Iconia yesterday I updated it to version 3.1, it was fast hands, much improved, I turned on my wifi connected it more often when I was browsing it does not access the Internet more and more strange I I can even access my router. Then I saw in that topic if you give it a reset back 2x the wifi to work properly. The more I did it and did not work, so I found the website of acer patch to fix the problem, I used more problem remained, so I downloaded another update.zip to update it to version 3.2, more el is still with the same problem does anyone know how to solve this?
First thing I'd do is try a hard reset the device..see where that takes you. Have you tried other routers, or tried connecting a different device to your router (to make sure it's not a router issue...)? If not, try restarting your router and modem first.
I take it you're running stock/not rooted?
I use the stock 3.2 ROM, I think the problem is the router, I used a program to use my laptop as a router and it worked, but not yet tested on a real router, but I think it's IP.
had this to
I had this when I bought my tablet (back when it had 3.1).
as fast as I got home and tried it the first time all networks around me could be found except for the one in our house.
I did a factory-reset on the tablet but it didn't work.
then i did a factory-reset on my router (since I lost the admin password). this seemed to work and after reïnstalling the ISP's things it functioned completely again.
I would suggest you change the channel of your wifi, the protection and retype the SSID.
also clear the logs and the firewall blocks.
If you retried connecting with these instructions leave a message here with your results
i try make what you says, but dont workink , my probleme is my router...
thanks!
Hi
i'm a biggener i installed taboonay with every thing ok. afetr ihad worked 3g hwuawi on my iconia a500 i lost wifi connection. wifi is fine with my laptop, but it doesnot work with iconia. even i updated to 2.2 .
wifi is working but can not find my home wifi network !!!
please help.
1- i installed taboonay 2.1
2- wifi ok
3- 3g dongle ok
4- wifi not working
5-update 2.2
6- still wifi not working
7- searching the internet for solution
i'm thinking of doing the following
1- reinstall taboonay 2.1
2- update to 2.2
3- 3g dongle
4- try wifi ????
what do ya think of this idea?
Seems I read somewhere awhile back, that the wifi won't work with the dongle inserted.
At least that's what I remember, and it seems your steps confirm this. I could be wrong though, as I use a 501.
I suppose, when you remove the dongle, Wifi starts working again?
Also, one other thing to try which seems to help a lot of people with home routers. Try changing channels on your router through the router admin.
Same problem
3g also work whenever i chose wifi mode or wifi and 3g!!!
I had this problem as well, but I hadn't installed anything, it simply just stopped working. I erased the iconia from
My network, then added it back. On the iconia I forgot the home network, and then found it again, re set the network settings, rebooted and re-installed the firmware and it was working again. Haven't had a problem since

Seems sensible as you can't use wifi and 3G on the A501 at the same time either, its one or the other....
I'm tethering a connection with my Xperia X10 using 'Wifi Tether for root users' app. I'm sure it work's fine cause I'm able to connect to this network via laptop or another android phone. What I'm not able to do is connect to this network from my Transformer. I click on the network and it just changes the state to Remembered but it won't connect to it no matter how many times I cick the thing.
Have any of you managed to solve this already?
I'm running an official ICS, no root or stuff. Completly clean.
What type of hotspot is it putting out? Ad hoc?
I think so
I don't know if it can help, but the issue you describe is exactly the one I had when I used my HTC Sensation (with any ICS custom ROM) as a Wifi AP : I could browse the web from any peripheral connected to the "HTC Portable Hotspot"... except from my TF101 !
I thought the problem came from the TF101 itself (and I'm still thinking it...), but curiously I solved it by flashing my HTC Sensation back to stock ROM (Android 2.3.4) !
Now my TF101 can browse the web through my Sensation like any other device...
I'm still thinking it's Transformer. I was flashing several softs before I started posting. It was always only the bloody transformer that couldn't connect... funny thing is that exactly week ago on the exactly same ICS I've managed to connect. Then it started to fail.
I thin your router needs to support Infrastructure and not adhoc networks to work wth the transformer.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Dude - it's a phone, not a router. It supports ad-hoc only. And as I said - it worked ocassionally. Myabe it's a reason to call a guarantee services?
if your TF is already rooted, then try the free app wifiadhocenabler from the market. i used this for my galaxy s2 because samsung disabled adhoc connections.
I can connect to my x10 just fine using the native tethering (via settings). I am still on HC though...
Sent from my X10a using The Force
I'm just a user, but I had the same problem when I was running Gingerbread on my HTC Legend. Now, there aren't really any proper drivers for that on Gingerbread, so it was done ad-hoc. When I updated to ICS on the TF101 it lost the ability to connect to ad-hoc hotspots. Installing a ROM that uses Froyo fixed it.
I think Prime users faced the same issue, but managed to enable ad-hoc support. Root on the tablet was of course needed.
This is really weird. One day it's connecting and week later it's not. And I haven't been changing ROM since then (neither on the phone or transformer)
Ad-hoc wireless support was supposed to be fixed in the latest .17 ICS update; however, I am still unable to use my TF101 to connect to an ad-hoc network.
