People who have/had a Galaxy S2 and are now using the Galaxy Note please share your toughts.
I'm thinking about getting a Galaxy Note.
Only 2 things concerning me is the size (I am big, so wouldn't matter that much) and battery life.
One Review could get 2.3 days other 1.5 day and some reviews didn't came further than 12/14hours.
On My Galaxy S2 (Rooted but stock) I unplug around 08:00 and around 22:00 I have 40% left.
My setup:
2 Exhange push, 2 IMAP (1Hour), Twitter (1 Hour), Weather (1 Hour), Facebook push, Whatsapp push. Total screen on time during a day is around max 2hours.
I am going to get a new phone end of November and thinking of Galaxy Note or Nexus Galaxy
I upgraded from the S2 to the Note. Size is good for me coz i like big screen. Battery life i will say it's better than the S2. and also, i didn't see any custom rom out there that improve the battery life for the note. so once some better rom out for note, it will be much better than s2.
I moved as well from S2 (rooted but stock as well) to this and it's the same experience albeit on a excellent and huge screen. I use my phone for multimedia purposes more than making calls so it was a no brainer for me.
The battery capacity is excellent even though it is powering a huge hd resolution screen. I have had it last all day with 2 1080p music video watching, Shadowgun game playing (10 - 15 min), web browsing (25 - 30 min), 2 x gmail (exchange) and 1 x hotmail (imap) account active as well as using to make and receive calls (15 min).
Hope it helps.
I loved the GSII, but I love the Note even more! At first I was getting poor battery life, like maybe 10-12 hrs with moderate use, but I went to running services and disabled several things that looked related to apps I had no use/desire for, and battery life has shot up. The battery usage screens are really handy. I'm now getting much better life, better than any other phone I've had. Extrapolating, I'm looking at 30-40 hrs per charge. I still need to go through and figure out which apps are keeping my phone awake and draining the battery so I can remove/disable and not have to manually stop the services after each reboot. These are stock apps/services, as I haven't installed that many apps, and none that I didn't have on my GSII, too.
Thank for the quick response.
What about the "poor" call quality (some reviews say)
I use my phone for chatting, mailing, browsing and texting...

Hey Xmoo, nice to see you here too.
Your background use looks a lot like mine, you should have no problems with lasting the day with a healthy reserve on the Note (I'm finding it's battery life much better than my SGSII).
Call quality seems commensurate with the SGSII for me, I think on my end it sounds a bit better, but my fiance who is the main person I talk to on the phone says the call quality on her end may be slightly worse than the SGSII.
Call quality is quite acceptable to me; it's about the same as the GSII. I'm actually very happy with it, as I came from the Nexus One before the GSII, and while it was clear, it was way too quiet and difficult to hear. In addition, on the nexus one I couldn't hold the phone with my shoulder, as covering the second mic made it impossible for the other person to hear me. So now, I'm still very happy every time I talk in the phone because it's so much easier and pleasant, even though clarity is just average.
I currently have a SGS2 as well and it is the best phone I have owned by far. The only thing stopping me from buying the Galaxy note is reports of lag and slowness compared to the SGS2. The large size doesn't bother me, I tend to use my phones primarily for data. No shops stock the GN around where I live at the moment so cannot go and check it out for myself.
Any speed comparisons will be appreciated.

I'm not sure the leg that you're talking about but I think it was due to touch Wiz. I switched to launcher Pro plus and everything is just very fast. What's really different about the Note, other than everything that's been mentioned here, is the size of the screen makes for much better widget-apps placement. The S2 uses a 4 x 4 icon grid, the note can use 5x6 icon grid with everything just as readable. I just took a look at the galaxy S2, boy does it look small and my Note has much faster scrolling with launcher Pro. I imagine that ICS will be great!
True, Touchwiz was also laggy on sgs2
Gonna go play with the note

Interesting, TW is more lagfree than LP+ for me, I'd assumed that was because of hardware acceleration which SPB Shell also offers (while we wait for ICS which has it natively).
I wish I were any of you, with my GS2 and already upgrading to a note..
Hmz... Played with it today.
Everything felt better than my SGS2.
Only issue is the size. I got big hands and it just fitted.
But having a big phone like that doesn't allow me to wear skinny jeans
I am upgrading from a gs2 as well. i picked mine up on a trip to the Netherlands. i couldnt be happier. one handed operation is a little tricky even for a guy like me with big hands (more like fat fingers), but i could care less. battery life is as expected, not that great, but wait till someone cooks up a proper rom, my gs2 had a couple hours batt life and heated up enough to cook your face, but a custom rom fixed it and i was getting stellar batt life. in that respect i can only hope that Nitr8, responsible for the gs2 insanity rom gets a note, when i ran the insanity rom i was getting 4 days batt life on my gs2. typing on the note is like using my laptop. also i find myself using the web on it and other services i would never use on my gs2 due to screen size. webpages are easy to read and navigate, resolution is great, and obviously the samoled screen is a joy to look at. the only time i feel a little dissapointed is when i look at a solid colour background and see the grid lines, whether its to do with a scaling issue, or a faulty screen manufaturing process, i still dont care. do yourself a favor and download a 1080p copy of avatar and watch it on the screen. this will be the best demonstration of why amoled samoled and regular ole' oled screens are going to revolutionize how we see movies and tv. the color saturation is a little strong, but i like it. in my personal opinion, if you can live with the little faults, and you can actually hold it properly, i def suggest getting a note.
I just got mine this morning.
I've been using it ever since and every time i go back to the GS2, it feels tiny

Apparently, for at least some of the people who were having poor call quality, noise cancellation was apparently on during calls, and that turning it off during the call makes the problem go away. Supposedly, noise cancellation is supposed to be on in video mode only, not for calls, so I assume that it will be fixed. (If not by Samsung, then by this community!)
call quality is good on mine, i have had zero complaints, i even had someone talk on mine while i listened on another phone. everything sounded good. also there are no settings for noise cancellation that i could find..
Had my Note for two days now I use my phone a lot for call, my wife says it looks like a tabletop calculator at that point she picked up the calculator and held it to her head lol,
Its a lovely device but you really need to see it in the flesh cause it's BIG.
I love it but I'm still in undecided.

Ive moved from the S2 to the note and back...
Im 193cm tall and Ive got large hands but I wasnt able to use the note with one hand.
Here my impressions compared to S2:
Pro Note:
Call quality
Battery life
HD Screen (watching video is great)
Contra Note:
Pen issue (its laggy and doesnt draw correct 2-3mm offset)
The note app is a joke, you cant scroll around like having a large paper
its to large for using it as a phone
its laggy comperd to my tweaked S2
To be real its not better then the S2 only larger with HD screen... The "note" function isnt worth to upgrade only the screen/size and for me its not a mobile device you can handle with one hand.
If only it came in 4.8inch.....

Hi all,
When the N4 was announced I had my GNex up for sale within the hour, sold within two! The more I read about the Nexus 4, the more I am unsure it is actually for me. I do not play games and generally use my phone for browsing the net/forums, google currents, bit of music and social networking (Facebook etc.)
I am now unsure whether I have made the right choice, and whether I should snap-up another Nexus while people are selling them off cheap on the forums ready for the N4 upgrade.
I was hoping for upgrades in the following areas
Build quality... this is one area where I am fairly sure I would be happy! N4 looks great!
Screen quality... again, a fairly significant upgrade to me me as the Gnex screen always looked a little washed out and dull when sat alongside other handsets (One X, S3, S2 etc.)
Battery Life... Was hoping for this but am now unsure. Gnex seemed to heat up quite a lot and was looking forward to getting rid of that. it now seems that the N4 may have the same issues and reports of screen on time in the region of 3 hours do not seem that much of a step up from the Gnex
Processor... Whilst a speed boost would be welcomed, as I only use the phone for some casual browsing and not gaming I am unsure how much difference I will see.
Camera... Again was hoping for a major boost, but seems to be a minor incremental boost at best!
Any thoughts? Anyone else in the same position as me and wondering what to do? Price difference is in the region of £100-120 if I were to purchase like for like accessories etc.
Cheers,
Michael
The fact that it's "Nexus" also means you get a standard, Android experience, along with guaranteed quick updates (up until the point where the OS won't run smoothly on the device I guess; which should take a while). Other vendors for the most part offer updates slowly, and choose to make the general UI... non-standard (which usually has more downsides)
yeah... am only comparing the two nexus devices as that is all I would buy... love the specs of the S3 and can be picked up mint for about the same price as a new Nexus 4, but couldn't live without the updates
Literally everything is improved. You'll love it no matter what.

One thing I wouldn't worry ahbout is battery life,
once the obvious software problems are fixed battery life is going to be good because:
-The battery at 2100mAh is pretty large
-IPS panels are allot more power efficient then Amoled screens, especially if your main use is web browsing
-The S4pro is the most efficient ARM quad-core and is the only one which allows to clock its cores independently
-There will be custom Kernels that allow undervolting and other features that improve battery life
I'm not a gamer either, but that didn't stopped me from getting this I personally think you won't regret getting it, but if you don't like it, you can always just return it and get something else

How much of a difference will custom kernels and ROMs make to the battery life? Roughly? 10% or more?
I know my current Galaxy 3 gives me an improvement of almost 30% with custom firmware, but that's because of removing the samsung bloatware.
I try to get the fastest, most powerful phone or computer out there that's at a reasonable price. By reasonable I mean most power per dollar. The people that say they don't need a super fast phone or computer are usually the ones complaining that Web pages open slow or it keeps freezing and slowing down. The better hardware you get, the longer you will be satisfied with the device. And for this price with this hardware/software? You gotta jump on it. You may not need a phone that could run crysis but if you could get it for the same or cheaper price as a lesser spec'd phone, wouldn't you?

Build quality... this is one area where I am fairly sure I would be happy! N4 looks great! I think we're going to love the build quality. I've said for a couple of years now that if Google could put out a Nexus device that felt like the iPhone 4/4S in the hand, then they'd really be on to something. I believe that's what LG has done here.
Screen quality... again, a fairly significant upgrade to me me as the Gnex screen always looked a little washed out and dull when sat alongside other handsets (One X, S3, S2 etc.) IMO, the screen is going to be great. From everything I've read, the screen is just a slight notch below the One X...so that would make it fantastic. And every review I've read that compared it to the GNex screen says that it's MUCH better and much easier to see outdoors in sunlight. This is a major upgrade.
Battery Life... Was hoping for this but am now unsure. Gnex seemed to heat up quite a lot and was looking forward to getting rid of that. it now seems that the N4 may have the same issues and reports of screen on time in the region of 3 hours do not seem that much of a step up from the Gnex. Again, this is something we'll have to wait and see (as everyone's day-to-day use is different), but I've seen a couple of reviews that say the Nexus 4 gets about the same, or just below, the battery life of the S3. If that's the case, then (for me at least), I'm golden. Yesterday I got 5 hours screen-on time on my S3 (50% brightness, stock rooted ROM, power save turned off, etc.) and I still had 23% battery life left. That's pretty darn good!
Processor... Whilst a speed boost would be welcomed, as I only use the phone for some casual browsing and not gaming I am unsure how much difference I will see. I think you'll see a major boost, even if you don't need it. Apps will open faster and things will just be snappier. I'd much rather have more performance than I need rather than the other way around.
Camera... Again was hoping for a major boost, but seems to be a minor incremental boost at best! This is the one place where I have to really disagree. The camera is VERY important to me (I use it daily in my job) and the shots I've seen seem to show the camera is a MAJOR upgrade over the GNex. While I didn't find the GNex camera to be awful, it certainly couldn't hold a candle to my S3 camera. If this camera is anywhere near as good as the S3, I'm going to be very pleased.
Any thoughts? Anyone else in the same position as me and wondering what to do? Price difference is in the region of £100-120 if I were to purchase like for like accessories etc.
Cheers,
Michael

See my replies above. I believe you've made a great decision. :good:
Engadget has had the most negative response to the battery life of anyone, and they still got 3 minutes longer out of the Nexus 4 than the Galaxy Nexus. Assuming they never fix whatever was causing the poor battery life, you'll see the same as what you get on your Galaxy Nexus.
I am coming from a Samsung Galaxy S3. I am due for an AT&T upgrade early July. I was really leaning towards the new Galaxy S5 but then I saw that I could get a Note 3 for the same price. I am really torn. The advantages I see with the Note 3 are:
---32 GB hard drive space vs 16 GB in S5
---3 GB ram vs the 2 GB that the S5 has
---larger screen
---bottom speaker (which I personally prefer to rear speakers)
The advantages I see for the Galaxy S5 are:
---a better camera (though I would love to hear just how much better)
---easier to handle with one hand
---water resistance
---apparently a screen that is brighter and slightly more accurate
I would like to hear from those who have had both and would like to elaborate or mention more advantages with either device. Thanks!
First it's about size difference. If you dislike a big phone you better don't buy a note. Everything else is a lot better on the note!!! For the same price and if the size is ok for u I would even prefer the note over the s5.
I went to an AT&T store yesterday and messed with a Note 3 for a while. The screen is humongous but the Galaxy S5 isn't too far from the same size with a much smaller screen.
I've liked everything about my Galaxy S3 except battery life (I now have a 3500 mah battery) and heating issues when doing gaming with, for example, Minecraft, even at its lowest graphical setting. I just can't game for more than 15-20 minutes on this phone without it getting extremely hot. Screen temperatures easily reach 100 within that time span.
Yesterday, I played Dead Trigger on the Note 3 for about 15 minutes. The phone did get quite warm on the screen side opposite the camera. It wasn't as bad as my S3 but it was a tad disappointing. Unfortunately the S5 next to it didn't have Dead Trigger on it and so I couldn't do a "heat" comparison.
BTW, hearing a lot about GPS issues and some suggesting not to upgrade to KitKat. Has the GPS issue been fixed without me having to run a custom ROM?
Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't had any GPS issues on the Note 3, but I wouldn't base your decision on the GPS anyway since it's a problem which can be fixed. Like I said before it's about your preference. Try to focus on the things you really need/want to see on your device and look also for different Android phones. There are so many good devices on the market and if you can wait there will be some more beasts coming in the next couple of months!!! Me personally god used to the size and smaller devices feel like toys when I use them.
From what I heard you need a better battery life and good gaming and over all performance. Something else?(music, camera)
Thanks for the reply. Battery life, no exaggerated heat when gaming, camera, very good speakers, and removable battery are the most important things to me. I absolutely love the HTC M8 but the camera and non-removable battery kill it for me. I would really love to have front speakers, but the other candidate, Sony Z2, has bezels too big for my taste.
I am waiting on more information on the LG G3 and this Galaxy Prime that I keep on hearing about. As mentioned earlier, I am due for an upgrade in early July and so I have time to really think about things but I like doing my research months in advance instead of last second.
I mentioned to my brother that I was considering the Note 3 and he said that is has reception issues---dropped calls, weak signal, etc. I googled it and there were some threads on the subject. Any comments on this potential issue?
Weak signals and dropped calls would be a network issue not really a handset issue
I came from a s3 to a note 3 and I'll never look back anything smaller feels miniscule now initially took time to adjust to the size of the screen but now I can't see me ever using a smaller device
Battery has served me well get a full day out of it no problem
You won't find a phone that won't heat up while gaming it's impossible to cool a device operating at full power without some sort of cooling mechanics other than heatsinks
Phone will take anything you throw at it and then some

I own both. (I'm using my S5 as a glorified mp3 player these days, as the screen is too small for me.) Much prefer the Note 3.
The camera on the S5 is in no significant way better than that on the Note 3. I'm an actual photographer so I haven't used any of the filters, and I set everything manually, but in term of picture quality, both are rubbish in low light. In bright light they're near equal.
In terms of screen the S5 is smaller with a higher pixel density. You can only see it when you're about 2cm away from your screen. The colours are slightly more saturated on the S5. (That's a matter of preference, I prefer somewhat more normal colours. Mainly because I can't stand the ghastly Touchwiz colours on the S5.)
Each phone heats up whilst gaming. That's what happens when the plastic case serves as the heatsink without any other fan or coolant. Particularly if you're holding it. The more powerful the device, the more it heats up.
I have no issues with GPS on KitKat. It locks quickly, is stable and has no satelite loss. Call reception is also fine, any drops in signal is entirely due to the sometimes hilariously bad coverage of my provider. (I've nagged them about that. Repeatedly. In person, at their HQ, to the network manager. No luck.)
The S5 is a bit better at handling drops and bumps. The Note 3 is a bit more fragile, so if you lead an active lifestyle or you're clumsy, consider a case.
If you have the time, I would indeed suggest waiting for the S5 Prime before making your choice. http://www.sammobile.com/2014/05/09...ith-qhd-display-snapdragon-805-android-4-4-3/

That is exactly how I compare the two devices just a lot more detailed lol.
In September/October should be the note 4 release and if I wouldn't have the note 3 now I would definitely wait. (I will probably still upgrade cause of my cell phone interest/addiction)
Guys, thanks for the replies and, Shadow Lea, thanks for the detailed comparison! I'm sure that it is close, but which one would you say has better battery life?

I'd say they're fairly even matched. The S5 is smaller, but has a smaller battery. I do feel my Note 3 lasts a bit longer, but maybe because I put more effort into extending the batterylife.
I am seeking some clarity. Exactly which Snapdragon 800 chipset is in the AT&T Galaxy Note 3? This article assumes that it is the variant with ram clocked at 933 MHz and the GPU at 550 MHz:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/snapdragon-801-performance-xperia-z2,3777-3.html
However, I've seen articles that have the ram at 800 MHz and the GPU at 450 MHz. Which is correct?
Don't buy the current S5 as Samsung is going to release a better version of it with a better chipset and more RAM and Quad HD display. The Note 3 is just as good for photos, has the S-Pen, speakers at the bottom as stated before, 128 GB Micro SD slot, same screen resolution, more RAM, and almost the same processor speed. W/ the S5, you're just getting features the Note 3 will get sometime later in the year, waterproofing (case can solve that w/ good research), and an easier device to carry around. People joke about my Note 3 a bit saying it's too big, but I honestly don't care because most people use that crappy iPhone 4S or something miniscule.
IMO just wait for the Note 4 right now.
First off - prefer the Note 3 because of the larger screen, however one thing that the others haven't mentioned is that the S5 comes with Kitkat which has restricted access to the SD card. The note 3 might still come with android 4.3 (if you are lucky) which allowed full access to the SD card. Obviously if you don't use the SD card than this is of no interest however if you do then, to me, this is a really important issue. Fortunately I jusy got my phone on a two year contract so I have at least 19 months before I have to worry! (as long as I don't press the firmware upgrade button by mistake!) Hope Google put something better in place in android 4.5 or android 5 or reverse this stupid decision.
What restriction r u talking about? I'm on kk.
@op if you get the chance compare it hands on. I heard a lot of people disliking the size of a note!!! It is most important that u like your phone and feel comfortable or else u regret spending money on it and start threats about strange issues u have in the forum Good luck with your decision. And as I said before at least wait for the note 4 if the screen size isn't a problem.
Google kitkat sd card issues tons of complaints. Someone has even started a petition. Although you can save your photos and music to the sd card all apps must save to a single app specific directory and are not allowed to write to other directories. E.g.take a photo with your phone them try and edit it with another programme. Because you aren't allowed to save it to the original directory you will end up with two copies in different locations. Also when you uninstall an app any data on the sd card will be deleted! Right pain in the ...neck!

Seriously the SD card issue isn't a big deal. The only problem is for old apps. But if you're using a new device, you should download apps that are optimized for your OS instead of running old apps anyways.
If the developer didn't bother with an update for a big permission change then obviously it's a sign that you should find a new app because If the app was like a banking app or something related to work, and they didn't update to 4.4 permissions, then how would you rely on them when a huge exploit for the app is released which leaked all your passwords and vital information?
Rooting allows for you to bypass this, but in all honesty, the play store is filled with new apps that always get updated weekly (especially File sharing apps) and you should use those instead. I understand not everyone can do this, but by choosing to buy a 4.4 device (even if you did an update you should have read up about changes), you automatically assume 4.4 features to be what you will live with.
It's ok. I bought a 4.3 device and read about the changes in 4.4 so I haven't updated. Personally I wanted my phone and next tablet to replace a Windows PC. Android 4.4 won't work for me. So I'll stay on 4.3 until warranty is up then upgrade and root. Next tablet will be a windows 8 not android.

I would definitely wait with win 8 tablets. The most r crap and the good ones r waaaay 2 overpriced. Know the win cycle one software good one bad... Windows 7 was good Vista bad XP good... Think about it
I've never owned a Note but I've owned countless Android devices and iPhones too. I got my VZW pre-ordered Note 8 on Tuesday and have been using it a lot since then. This is by far the best phone (Android or not) I've ever used especially in terms of out of the box experience.
Coming from an S8 some thoughts:
- Super smooth and animations don't stutter at all - not sure how much of this has to do with 6GB of RAM and Android 7.1.1 (GS8 has 7.0)
- AMAZING multitasking - finally. My average free RAM has remained about 1.5GB (60-70% used) the last 48 hours. Apps that I haven't used for over 24 hours are still in memory and even multitasking heavy apps like Facebook, Twitter, browsers, etc. is no problem. FINALLY!
- Battery life for my usage has always been so-so on the GS8 the best I could get was 3.5hrs for example. Yesterday I took my phone to work and used it for the whole day without charging (9 hrs) and had 2 hrs of screen on time - left work with 60% battery life! That is incredible for me personally since again I have not done anything to tweak or optimize - everything is on and I used it heavily.
- The screen (even coming from a GS8) is just breathtaking. The quality, brightness and colors are awesome. Outdoors it gets so bright that it almost looks like an e-ink display. HDR videos on Amazon and Netflix look really great
- Fingerprint sensor location is not great but it's fine for me coming from GS8
- Camera seems as good as GS8 but haven't used it as much as I would like yet
- Size is perfect, it's tall but the width is perfect for holding and the keyboard is super comfortable (GS8 felt too narrow)
If you have any questions feel free to ask below. Thanks and for those waiting, it's totally worth the wait
Thanks for all these tidbits! I have been concerned with the lack of excited posts from people who have received the phone - this is awesome to see!!
Especially excited about proper RAM management. Thank goodness Samsung has learned!
Also really glad to hear that scrolling is smooth and no stuttering. Stupid test model had me worried. Thanks again for this post, I am so relieved and even more excited now!
What's your screen resolution op?
Out of the box, i read on one of these android reviews that the highest screen resolution is not selected out of the box, in order to maintain better battery life.
Since you didnt tweak anything according to your post, i assume you did not adjust the screen resolution?
I'm getting the note8 today and the first thing i will do is enable the highest screen resolution and make sure the battery performance is set to highest performance.
This will be my first every Sammy product so im looking forward to it. I have an asus zenfone 3 deluxe special edition with 6gb max and half a terabyte of storage. Ther hardware in it is top shelf but the screen is no where near the resolution of the note 8.

Yes first thing I did was change to QHD resolution and I'm running at that since the first 5 mins of owning the phone. It does come at 1080p like the GS8 so I knew to change it. So I assume if you left it at 1080p it would be smoother, faster and last even longer!!

Yeah, everyone uses phones differently so hopefully it works for you!
This is one of the most unbelieveably slow tablets I have ever experienced. It is VERY interesting that there is such a high percentage of people on this forum who claim their tablet doesn't show any signs of slow down and is very snappy, no lag at all, and gaming performance is top notch. I am here to tell you that these people either work for Samsung or literally have something wrong with the connection between their eyeballs and brains.
Now before I get into the details I would like to say that not all is lost for this tablet and it may someday be the best thing money can buy. Let me explain.... I noticed something very similar when using this tablet. I couldn't put my finger on it right away and then it hit me. This thing feels just like that terribly sluggish s7 edge I used to have. HMMM what do those two have in common you say??? Same SOC, same manufacturer, same-ish software. This thing CHUGS! and I don't want to hear anyone try to refute it. It is unbearable. Just exactly like the s7 edge.
I figured I might be able to clean up the performance on this thing with a custom kernel, just as they have done over on the s7 forums. I was wrong. I rooted and installed a kernel that would allow me to set the governor to performance to see if it helped. It did, but not enough. And performance smokes your battery in no time anyway so isn't a real solution. Samsung has literally destroyed this chip with their DVFS junk just as they have done in the past. I can't belive this was allowed to be released like this AND at this price.
Now for the good part. The s8 was pretty slugglish at release as well (not quite like the s7), but was recently updated to Oreo and it FLIES, just like the Note 8 does. It seems Samsung has finally started taking performance seriously and has figured out how to make their phones have great performance without sacrificing battery life. The tab s3 is slated for the Oreo update in 2018, so we will see what it does to the performance.
Since Google completely messed up their last tablet (the Pixel C's wifi is worse than a 5 year old Nexus 4) and left the market, samsung is the only player left in the so-called highend Android tablet space so here we are with a SD820 from early 2016 instead of a SD835 and broken wifi power-saving since launch. I fully expect Samsung to continue this crap with the Tab S4: copy the 10.5 screen size from the new ipad pro so it looks good on paper but then use the SD835 from 2017 instead of the SD845 which will have been shipping for 6 months by the time they launch the S4 in mid 2018. Hopefully we get a fully working device this time and not something like the Tab S3 and it's totally borked wifi sleep. But hey, could be worse, a fast wifi chip that doesn't sleep and causes power drain is arguably much much better than the slow as molasses crap Google put in the Pixel C (google Pixel C wifi or head over to Anandtech for a deep analysis).
Gone are the good days of the Tab S2 and Nexus 9, both good devices with small shortcomings.

Oh the irony!
So I bought 5 tablets this week: Tab s2, Tab s3, Shield Tablet, Nexus 9, and Pixel C. I thoroughly tested all 5 and came to the conclusion that I am keeping the Pixel. And now you hit me with this! lol
So I ran to the tablet with my Note 8 in hand and started doing side by side speed tests and range tests. I found that the Pixel is getting up to 3 times faster download speeds, about the same uploads, and the range seems consistent between the two. Hmmm. I already have the Pixel on Oreo so maybe that has something to do with it?
Not sure, but even if the wifi performance is slow or range bad, it is much better than the other 4 in my opinion. I made a post over on the Pixel C forum to inquire and will try to get to the bottom of it.
I needed a tablet that would game well, multi task, and word process fairly easily. The s2 was my favorite of the bunch but just didn't have the horsepower I was looking for, you know how I feel about the s3 already lol (it would be my fav by far without the lag), the shield has a crap touchscreen, and the good ole Nexus 9 actually does very well for it's age once you get the stock software flashed off. The Pixel C was winner by default, not by choice. I hope 8.0 fixes the Tab s3 so I can buy one 2018. I really didn't want to go above 9 inch due to portability, but there just isn't anything out there and I was forced to look at the bigger ones.
What's most aggravating about the Pixel C situation was that Google employed their forum mods and drones for months on end to drown out folks like myself who were complaining about the wifi situation until anandtech confirmed what we had known all along:
https://www.anandtech.com/show/9996/revisiting-the-google-pixel-c/4
With samsung, they have kind of acknowledged the wifi power drain exists on their official forums, they are just indifferent to it.
I have had no issue's with my Tab S3 SM T825 I do have to wait on it on occasion hey it's SD 820 but it's only about a second or two so not an issue.
This is from from am Android developer so
And rooting it pretty much renders Netflix useless and I want HDR so won't go into magisk and all that crap just a clean plain Samsung tablet with developer mode on
My OnePlus 5 is more than enough for root stuff
Plus you can always sideload apps so I don't know what you're ranting about and you don't even mention specifically where you found to slow
Gaming is good only game that didn't detect Adreno 530 was Telltale Batman. Video binge watching lasts me 8 hours from 100 percentage at 67 percentage brightness.
What else do you want from this tablet word office s pen
What the heck you trying to do? MOVE A MOUNTAIN?

WiFi power drain I tested today its fine from 33 percentage it went down to 27 after 3 hours that's ok with me. I charge my tab s3 once in two days or so
Fully agree with OP
Chrome is unusable. I check everyday for a stock rom. It'd embarrassing from Samsung for this price..

It's all in the software man don't worry. Oreo will turn the tablet into lightning just like the note 8. Go look at the oneplus 3, same 820 chipset and it flies and never slows down. Samsung destroyed all the 820 devices with bad software. It will be fixed sometime this year.
It still amazes me that there are people on this site that will argue with you until the end of time that this device doesn't lag lol I can't relate to these people at all.

Haha I've given up hope on this thing.
It's basically just a Netflix display and PDF reader for me.
Multitasking just kills it, and I'm sure the skeleton Dev team Samsung has put on this device will not be able to implement Oreo properly either.

I've had a Tab S3 for a year now, and am absolutely delighted with it.
Previously a Tab S, that was getting long in the tooth. Prior to that Nexus 7 and the updated version.
The Tab S is as fast as I could wish for, and great battery life.
I object to your characterisation of people who like it. I expected better from a Senior Member of this forum.
I bought my S3 off Amazon and it was pretty sluggish but flashing another region's firmware on it made it fly, been really happy with its battery life and performance over the last six months or so.
Having said that I really don't think high end android tablets are worth it so this is probably my last for a while yet, the cost is too high for the marginal improvement in functionality over a high end smartphone. I knew HDR was a gimmick going in but I was hoping that I'd be able to replace a laptop with the S3 but it just can't quite hang when it comes to any sort of real work load.
Look at my posts
HDR is no gimmick. There is no such possibility. It's like the js7200 which has HDR but they haven't shown it. But tab has better brightness.
And for all here saying tab lags it just doesn't it's the best flagship tablet to get besides the ipad but oled mean my eyes don't redden anymore or strain at all.
So it's not like a phone flagship ok. But most of your PC's would do a worser job on word than this! Also pixel c just don't match.
Chrome does drain battery I read twd comics entire and every single time it drained 1 percentage for 5 to 10 mins each. Samsung internet had zero to minimal drain considering and in stark comparison. Don't blame the tablet blame google.
Everything is smooth sometimes rarely it acts weird like it's dead but then it's ok like it's got the Hangover once or twice every month for a few minutes.
Stop the hate, this is the only tab that you can love if you can't use ipad or want OLED. I mean it's better than the TV. Now my TV is just the playstation monitor.

Maybe you get tab S4 :cyclops:
It is a great tablet, but it has its faults, a limited battery, limited software to take advantage of the Spen, the lack of mechanism to hold the Spen is another serious error, to mention some opportunities.
It's not hate, it's the feeling that it could have been an unparalleled tablet that finally feels like a tab 2.5 and not a real tab s3, and Android does not help much to take advantage of our tab.
Definitely I have enjoyed my tab S2 more than my tab s3, the deficiencies are there and it is something that Samsung will have to improve in the future tab s4. And any laptop with the same retail price its seriously better for daily work over our tab.
In conclusion, great tablet that could have been something that did not finish to achieve.
I have asked the mods to remove this thread or close it permanently, so it should be going down soon. I will be replacing it with a new post soon. The new post will explain everything.
