Has anyone figured out a way to enable gmail background data without the settings menu option?
Mine is working in background.
Just mare sure that you select to sync inbox in the gmail settings (Gmail , click menu, more -> settings and pick your gmail account).

Go to Inbox ->Menu -> tools -> manage folders -> click and hold on Sent Items and there you choose the options for syncing

i think its better to use google sync.
whats google sync?
i set up my Live account. but for some reason it stopped pulling email from the web... and when i try to see the settings of the email account it's all greyed out. i can't even delete it. any ideas what i did/ happened?
also i tried to uninstall the game demos and other preloaded apps but they don't appear in the list to remove? how do i remove them. and is there a way to set Opera mini 5 as my default browser?

i fixed it by
i think on sense email tab i hit account settings then the account then putting in the info which went missing which was the incoming and outgoing server
yeah, but when i go to select the account it's grayed out it won't let me get into settings.
I got the same problem with my email. its not updating and i cant delete and reinstall cause account settings its greyed out.
go to start > windows live > menu > account options > switch account > yes..
So, I logged in with my GMail account upon loading the phone for the first time. Well I wanted to use the nifty Sense email widget and it asked me to log in again so I did. Well I am getting dual notifications of emails now and I cannot figure out how to remove the second entry of my GMail. I input my company email info and it went under Settings > Account. When I look there, a Google account is listed and when i try to remove it is says you must reset the phone to remove this account. How can I unload the second instance of GMail from the Mail app and leave the original account alone?
Also, is there a way to switch the App Drawer button with the Phone button?
Thanks
to get gmail out of the Mail app, open the mail app, then menu -> account list and pick your gmail account, then menu -> settings -> delete account.
Can't help on the second front tho, good luck!
if you dont want the 2x notifications, you dont need to delete the Gmail account from the stock app (witch is automatic if you are signed into google)just turn off all the notifications in the stock google mail app.

Click to collapse
I feel pretty retarded, I noticed that right after I posted this. I looked a couple times and for some reason didnt see it, thanks.
I hardly use my phone as a phone so i want to set priority to the Apps I guess, stupid phone button on a phone, who woulda thought...
I had the same thing but I just went to settings in the HTC Mail app and turned off notifications then swapped the mail app on the home screen with the gmail app since I like the gmail one better. That way I just get the gmail notifications which I like better and I can still use the HTC Mail widget, although I'm still undecided on whether I'll keep the widget or not.
I've been fighting with this feature and still didn't figured out the problem pattern.
Some calendars that I create online don't show up in the Samsung Calendar App.
I managed to export/import the events from the ones that don't show to the ones that show. But I would like to pinpoint this problem.
I installed another calendar app (Gemini) just to check. The app can show all the calendars unlike the samsung calendar app, but the events are still missing from those calendars that Samsung app hides.
Anybody experienced this?
I just flashed to JM6 and tested this right away. The problem still exists.
Your Samsung Calendar app syncs flawlessly with Google Calendars?
What is happening? Nobody has this problem?
There is no setting that prevents the calendars to sync with the phone. What could be happening here?
In calendar app, try Setting > Calendar and tick on your google account.
I wish it was that simple
Anyhow after scrubbing the web I found the solution. It's not that hard, now that I know how. This could be used for a lot of sync problems that have no apparent reason:
goto Settings > Accounts & sync > tap your gmail account > uncheck Sync Calendar
now,
goto Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > menu > Filter > all > Calendar > Clear data
back out to the Applications list and go into Calendar Storage > Clear data
This should wipe out everything in your calendar. Now go back into your gmail account and re-check Sync Calendar
Voilá!!!!! It works. I'm happy.
What a star!
I had this happen for the first time today, glad you sussed it for me
A friend just got a Droid 2 and she is having fits trying to get her default Google account to sync calendar & contacts.
Contacts is showing in the Account Sync settings & is selected, but Calendar does not appear at all.
I was going to remove the account & re-do the setup, but it would require a hard reset & she doesn't want me to do that!
I know that Verizon transferred info to her Droid 2 and wonder if its the culprit.
Suggestions?
Matt
Sent from my HTC EVO via the XDA app
Check settings -> battery manager -> Battery mode, and select performance mode. Could be battery manager not allowing data transfer.
Settings -> Applications -> All -> Gmail -> clear data. If the above doesn't work.
This has happened to me and those are the things I did to fix my own problems.
Make sure Gmail is downloaded I was reactivating my phone after updating Fission once and the market wasn't finished downloading and Gmail didn't show up in the sync menu at all like you described. After it was installed I just went back in and selected sync (because it was in there then).
