I'm using the HTC HD7 and was thinking of getting either the HTC Titan or Galaxy Note. Here in Singapore, there are Galaxy Note demos that I could try and I like it, although I found it a bit lagging.
The Titan is still not available here while the Galaxy Note, is supposed to be available tomorrow (18 Nov) but it seems that it will be delayed until 23 or 24 Nov (next week).
If you are a HD7 user like me and had bought the Galaxy Note, please share with me your experiences.
Thank you.
I have and I am very happy for the most part, android can be laggy sometimes, scrolling through lists sometimes stutters, it's nowhere near as smooth as wp7, also all the web browsers are useless compared to wp7's. Dolphin Browser is the best i've found sofar.
However you won't regret it, it's fantastic looking device that turns heads plus we will soon be getting ice cream sandwich (hopefully

Thanks for the assurance. Since HTC Titan is taking their own sweet time to launch in Singapore, I'm going to get the Note. It's arriving tomorrow, and I'm waiting for the contract handset price to be announced tomorrow by Singtel.
Bought my SN last Saturday and love it!
I'm not missing my HD7... ;-)
Dolphin browser from Android market is a great internet browser, and it's free.
S-Memo is a very nice note app, S-Pen works very nice with the app.
With Sygic and the 5.3" screen, point-to-point in 3D works as well or even better than a dedicated GPS.
Exchange server sync even has Out-of-Office built-in. Look at my signature on two helpful tips on firmware update using Kies and how to read Outlook Task using S-Planner. There seems to be a bug in the Inbox, showing "IRM not supported" and can't sync after one day. Sent folder, calendar, contacts and task syncs find.
The screen lag I had noticed from demo sets seems not present in my Note. Great!
With my HD7, with Tune-in playing in the background, and with voice commands from navigation app, the voice commands and Tune-in sounds are broken. With the Note, Tune-in and Sygic, I don't have problem with sound.
I like the phone dialer better than the HD7 dialer.
Battery Life is better than my HD7, but that may be due to the higher Ampere battery in the Note.
So my conclusion is, the Note is a good buy. I'm glad that the HTC Titan has not arrive here, thus giving me the opportunity to get the Note.

Had a HD2 which broke and was replaced with an hd7. The hd7 is a very good phone, the G-Note it's the best phone I could ever imagine. There's no comparison and I'll never go back.
Hd7 is now a paperweight.

Have an LG Optimus with WP7.
The OS is way behind Android... only the Smoothness is better.
Have an HD2, too
With Android 2.3.6.
Great but not the original experience.
Bought the Galaxy Note.
Don't want any other device right now.
Almost everything is great.
I'm very curious about ICS.

I would go for Desire HD. Materials and general quality. (Galaxy is plastics)
But it depends in your needs and likes, and price. Sure other people will write big explanations.
Nice upgrade anyway!

The Galaxy S was the first smartphone I bought and it's a great phone. Swype is one of THE best apps I've ever used and I dearly wish it was available on the Wildfire as typing this reply with a bog-standard keyboard is a major PITA.
I principally bought the Galaxy S because it was the biggest screen on the market at the time and watching videos on a small screen blows. Of course, there are now phones with bigger screens, so I've upgraded to the Nexus S. Another key factor in my upgrade decision was that Samsung took a long time to upgrade the Galaxy S from Eclair to Froyo and I didn't want to wait for them to upgrade it to Gingerbread so I bought the Nexus S. AFAIK, to date Samsung have no plans to upgrade the Galaxy S to Gingerbread.
So I suggest you factor this in to your purchase decision and try and really focus on what you're looking for in a smartphone.
I've also just discovered the world of custom ROMs so now I find I'm going to sell my Galaxy S (and possibly my Nexus S - while the secondhand prices are still high) as I'm enjoying my (small and thin) Wildfire + custom ROMs so much that I hardly ever use the other two phones.
So my advice to you is to seriously think about what it really is you like about the hardware. As the software you can change.

REally?!?! You have Galaxy S, Nexus S, but you prefer Wildfire?? I have too much envy right now!!! But it's a little strange, isn't it? I mean they are fantastic phones and Wildfire is great, but no so powerful!
Yes, it surprises me as well that I find the Wildfire to be more to my liking. I guess I just like its size compared to the others. Each to his own, but it has been an expensive exercise for me to find out what I really like.

Go for Milestone 2 or Just the normal Desire.
i got a samsung galaxy s for my gf. its a really nice phone, but she did experience an issue with the battery. it would hardly last 14 hrs. (with GPS, background data disabled, only 2G mode and abt an hour wi-fi use)
Not to worryed about battery as I usally have ne phone either plugged into my pc or on charge whilst im on my motobike so not to fussed about battery life

Is it worth the upgrade, considering I paid full price for a SIM-free HD2 about 3 years ago and would be doing the same with the Note now?
Is the Note's screen brighter than the HD2?
How about the weight difference?
Is it possible to read PDFs on the Note? On the HD2 is a bit of a nightmare, as I need to zoom all over the place to read properly.
Does it play Divx out of the box?
Finally, when will the Note get an ICS upgrade? Gingerbread is old news already.

TBH its amazing, the hd2 is an old toy, was good back in the day buts its slow and old! Its 2011 remember!
I had an HD2 on T-Mo and I've upgraded to the Galaxy Note and I'll tell you it's the best decision I've ever made! The HD2 was awesome at the time but after using the note for just over a month it makes the HD2 feel a tiny and outdated piece of hardware. Viewing pdf's is so easy on the Note with all the real estate and you'll have no issues with needing to zoom, I regularly view bus and train timetables and at the standard zoom I can read everything without any issues or strain.
The screen is a million times better than the HD2, I can't even describe! I had both devices briefly before I sold my HD2 and everything just looked pixelated in relation, I don't know how I ever used it! The Note is seriously the best piece of tech I've ever had in my pocket. The only thing I can think of that was better on the HD2 is that the sound was better when I plugged it into a set of speakers but otherwise the Note is superior in every way.
I have used the HD2 since it first came out. I have installed Android and WM7 on it because it is an awsome and flexible phone. I also had a galaxy Tab 7". When I first saw the Galaxy Note it was love at first sight. I have been using it for 2 weeks now, and everyday it gets better. I now use the one device for everything. I recommend the note.
Last two years switching between HD2 and Milestone. I missed sometime hardware keyboard from Milestone or the size of the two phones when i'm in subway or bus ^^ but can you remember me of what phone(s) we are talking now?
Can't wait to take the train of plane to watch some good stuff on it.

I too, am sooo twitching to get one...
At the moment of writing this post both my HD2 and GNote are sitting on the table, the HD2 in the craddle, while the GNote waiting hers to arrive from the ebay,
I have been using the Hd2 for the past 2 years, and never thought anything else could replace it its almost as new as day one,its the longest time I have ever stayed with a phone, may be couple of weeks more or less than my first iphone.
Hd2 is the greatest phone I have ever had,Screen, size, camera, built quality, and despite porting the WP7 and Android on it from time to time I remained loyal to WM with CleaNEX custom ROM, since everything I needed I could do on it,it was and still is a great phone,I can go on and on pages about it.
However time goes on and changes come along with it.
I bought my GNote one week ago,and should say that it is by far the better device, the wow factor is awsome, just beware of the Iphone users they could get too hostile when seeing it!!.
When buying the GNote I promised myself that I use the HD2 from time to time, but looks like will not happen.
You can play all kind of videos on it by installing the MXvideo app from the market.Cant be compared to the old Core Player.
Gingerbread is not as bad as you may think it is,though every each one of us are waiting for the ICS,We have two SG tab 10.1 Honeycomb at home cant see much difference.
HD2's sound is much higer after insatlling the SRS WOW HD on it,but samsungs sound quality is unmatched.
I paid $750 for my GNote, for that money did I get the equivalent of more functionality than the HD2 ?hard to say,but should say that I enjoy using it more than keeping the money in the pocket.
I would surely buy again.
I still have HD2 and have the note since a few days.HD 2 is still a great device.I only upgraded because of broken glass.HD2 is made of better quality parts.best example is the battery cover.HD2:stylish metal, note: extreme thin plastic, almost like paper.
But: the note has a great display and is great and better in technical aspects.I would never change it back.it is a great device.

More than happy to shurrup if it doesn't work this time and go back under the rock whence I came. I've already wasted three posts and all your valuable reading time on this.
Well,
Here I am sitting with my HD2 with it's guts out (switching SIMs, microSD...) and the shiny new note getting charged by its side (not switched on yet!). Looks like we HD2 owners love big screens and great performance, right?
But my HD2 is not getting sold, no way! I'm flashing it anew so my mother can have a great phone for many years still!
Got to go (and check howto root/flash new ROMs )
i have been using my SGN for close to a week now. I have had HD2 and I liked the phone but got tired of changing roms and wanted a real (native) device. I bought the HTC G2 and liked the fact it had a real keyboard. I am cheap and would not consider paying more them 300 bucks for a nice phone off craigslist. I live in dominican republic and to my shock, SGN was being displayed in the store of "claro" phone company. At first, the phone intimidated me by it's huge size, but when i saw the screen lit up, my jaw dropped. Wow, i mean, wow. This phone is super slim, fast and has a brilliantly lit sharp screen, full of vibrant colors. I just could not get enough of this phone. I went back several times to the store, just to see the phone in the display window. I was almost ready to pay 700 bucks on ebay to order one from hong kong, but i saw an ad on local craigslist type page: samsung galaxy note (new) for 650 bucks. Seems like some guy got one and didn't know what to do with it. he didn't even know how to change the language into spanish. I offered him $560 (US-dollars) and got the phone from him in original box and plastic stickers. All I can say is, I can't seem to get my eyes off this phone. Its the most amazing phone I have ever had in my life. I don't think I can ever go back to a normal 4.3 inch screen phone again. go buy this phone, it will change your life.
3 years on the hd2? Wow that's crazy. I can't make it 6 months on one phone

hey guy.
now i'll try to give you a feedback too
spending most of my time on the htc hd2, flashing around, i have to say it WAS the best phone i have ever had.
a couple of weeks ago my hd2 wasn't the old (there was a mistake) and i startetd to think about a new one.
my hd2 is now okay (repaired again) BUT the note, which i bought 3 weeks ago is amazing. the screen is wow, the size not too big, but big enough for watching movies or play a good round fifa 2000 (psx)
its a new age that will be opend for you .. its fast its big it must be yours.
if you have any detaild quastions ask. and i will answer it (or anybody else here in the forum) )
p.s. buy it !!
I had the HD2. Was my daily phone for over a year. My phone was the US T-Mobile version and even when i came back in the UK it was perfect. Runs on the 3g networks here, fully unlocked and hspl unlocked.
In the 8 months since being back in the UK I've had the HTC Sensation and the Galaxy S2. While great phones, i still couldn't say goodbye to the trusted HD2. No matter what, there was and always will be something about that phone. Even by todays standards it was that good. Then came the Note and it's the first device that exited me as the HD2 did. My HD2 has since been donated to a friend but he knows that if he doesn't look after it, I'm having it back. Hell, even the Pocketnow.com website has referred to the HD2 as the beast that just won't die. That's what made it a great phone, what still makes it a great phone.
Do i regret getting the Note? No. Not now, not ever.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
HTC HD2 was launched in November 2009, not 2008. I have mine since Dec 2009, makes 2 years on 23th of December
Great build quality, timeless design (HTC Titan is the only one I find as classy, it is truly HD2 sucessor) and nice screen for e-reading (I enjoy the low level of brightness it can acheive and the white tone, it doesn't strain my eyes). And, of course, all the epicness of waiting and trying beta builds of Android, WP and now ICS. It's just too damn fun.
But, since 2 years correspond to 10 years in geek time, I'm searching for a new phone to play with. Sensation XL has the perfect size to me, but it's just too damn ugly and has a low res screen for today's standards. What about Galaxy Note? The screen sharpness is amazing, I appreciate the S-Pen feature and 5.3" makes me drooll. But... I can't overcome the fact that quadcore phones with hdmi-out are just around the corner and that I hate touchwiz and Samsung over saturated and "dark" colors. Plus, I fear 5.3" is just a little to big to use as a phone.
If a stock ICS ROM becomes available, I might overlook Note's massive size and buy one 'till Christmas.
Time for some speculations! What is 2012 gonna bring for our beloved HD2? Do you think we will get the camera working on ICS? What new features will be introduced with Android Jelly Bean and will we get a functional port?
Are our awesome devs possibly even gonna port further OSs?
Or are you guys planning to replace your HD2 with quadcore smartphones hitting the market next year? Voice your opinion here and have a Happy New Year!

I definitely think we'll have the camera working in ICS but then surely it has to be the end of the line. I've already moved on to the Galaxy Nexus which seems to be attracting lots of development work.

At the moment it is difficult to "upgrade"
The samsung Note looks nice though
How about the mysterious magldr 2.00? I think now its a canned project with too many of the small bugs not worth the extra legwork. And it sounds like dft has had enough with whats been going on elsewhere.
I think that the developers will allow us to keep the HTC HD2 for at least six month yet.

Certainly, but the HTC HD2, in performance, does not have anything to envy.
I've been ready for an update since like May, 2011, but there is nothing I see worth me committing 2 more years without me leaving T-Mobile. I'm digging the RAZR, but I don't want to leave T-Mobile, I'm also looking at what WP7 does this year.
By the way, we're just two days into 2012, and we already have ICS WITH CAMERA !!!
Here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1417472 (only pictures, no video "yet!")
And we have another big thing to anticipate in the coming days/weeks
Hopefully WP7 can come already unlocked with activation keys no more chatting with Microsoft for HD7 keys.....

I'd love for more developers to do SD versions of WP7 and Android.
OR find some way to dual-boot WM6 and anything else. WM6 is very efficient for what I like to do and I don't want to leave it yet.
The Opera browser is awesome in WM6. I never have to hit any physical buttons and it retains all my tabs even if I do lots of other things. In Android it just closes my browser if I start doing other things and I have to reload all my tabs..
I hope w 8 Release
I found after moving to the Galaxy S2 that the HD2 especially when running cm7 is still more than enough for everyday use and I would quite happily pinch it back off of my missus lol. However if you like to game I found that the Adreno 200 is far to weak in 2011/12, even the more basic games can struggle to perform well e.g Random Mahjong etc. I can see it definitely running ICS quite well and getting some love from that department after that not so sure... No Windows 8 for sure lol.
I quite like the look of he Galaxy Note, but I'm not sure that I'm ready to move away from sense yet :/
with a OCd Processor
Until the loud ear peice volume is fixed, I don't see the attarction
technically the phone will be fine until its fully run ICS update, so i think that the future half of the 2012 will be well lived by Leo's
and if it runs well (like any 3.5 ginger-sense roms) the ICS Sense, hd2 will live much more
i feel the same. every fone out there can be my hd2. no need to upgrade till we get some true improvements in hardware. htc and hd2 rule
Dear xda,
To many of you this may seem like a stupid question, and are probably thinking "this idiot should just go do some research" - I already have. I can get an upgrade as early as the 28th March (Just over a month away). I am not considering the SGS II (I already know it will be too expensive)
So this is what I know to make my decision upon, any other developments, user experiences welcome.
Galaxy Nexus Pros:
-Google ICS
-Will receive latest updates
-4.65" Screen 720x1280 HD
-Aesthetically pleasing
Galaxy Nexus Cons:
-PenTile matrix screen [everyone or reddit says not to worry, this screen is the **** and a lot better than sgsII's)
-Price
-Worse Camera than SGS II
-Worse GPU than SGS II
-Worse CPU??
Galaxy S II Pros:
-Getting ICS
-Cheap (£26pcm - will drop with release of SGS III)
-Awesome hardware
Galaxy S II Cons:
-Smaller screen than GNex 4.2" 480x800 WVGA
-Almost a year old (however still comparable to Gnex which is a "brand new" device)
-Not sure: worse android development than GNex??

May last I heard, but it'll be way too expensive, the only benefit it will give me is drive down the prices of those two phones.
Yes wait for a couple of months or you will repent for sure. Both the devices you have shortlisted will be outdated soon.
Sorry to say this here, but looks like Windows Phone 7 is also a good platform.

There are new midrange phones expected from HTC. Waiting will be the best choice at the moment.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Prices will come down but I don't think by that much as this is still a powerful phone. It's selling well and I doubt we will see the SGS3 that early as most likely they will try to have a same timeish global launch considering it's pretty new in the States. I personally think they will try to compete with the iPhone 5 than anything else so may get a delayed launch but that's just what I think!
Hold tight as rumours it may get announced at the Amsterdam event next month so we may or may not get an indication of release date.
From a specs standpoint, the practical difference in high end Android devices is absolutely nothing. You aren't doing any computationally intensive operations like compiling source code or video conversions. You're running games and social media apps and texting and looking at emails.
Sure, the GSII has more megapixels, but I can't tell a difference in the picture quality. Plus, the Galaxy Nexus has a much fast shutter speed, which more than makes up for the 3 megapixels it's giving to the GSII.
The screen surface of the Galaxy Nexus is smoother than the screen surface of the GSII. I have no idea why, but the GSII isn't nearly as easy to fling your thumb across and shows fingerprints more.
The Galaxy Nexus has a recovery partition, the GSII doesn't. The Galaxy Nexus development is thriving and probably has 5 or 6 ROMs that are built from Android Source. There are 2 AOSP roms for GSII and several Samsung-based ROMs.
Really, I love both of the phones. There are ALWAYS better phones on the horizon. Always. Don't wait.

Yes wait for a couple of months or you will repent for sure. Both the devices you have shortlisted will be outdated soon.
Sorry to say this here, but looks like Windows Phone 7 is also a good platform.

Nononononononono, no windows, no. lol, nah I'm sticking to what I know, screw WP or iOS - Android is the future, plus I've got a ton of paid apps.

There are new midrange phones expected from HTC. Waiting will be the best choice at the moment.

No more HTC - do not like sense, and my HTC Desire has had a horrible track record of breaking, only good thing I can think of is customer service.

I'm in no rush anyway if I'm honest, the earliest I can upgrade is the 28th March (officially ends June 28th), I just want to know where I stand with phones so I can get right in there and not have to ponder too much about what I'm going to go for. It's funny to see the idiot salesmen try to push crap onto you though (I was told the Buzz is better than the Bravo when I was getting it).

Definitely will upgrade to Galaxy Nexus from current SGS II

I will recomand SGSII i had GNex and was a bit dissapointing,a little bit laggy worse camera and the build quality is not so good
I would go for the galaxy nexus 100%. If i had the choice i would myself or wait for the s3. But nexus will get updates quicker and its "pure".

Not nearly all nexuses are getting updates straight from google, also it has lots of pixels so lots of work to do for gpu so it might be a bit laggy

The buttons being on-screen on the Nexus would worry me a bit, they're going to cause some annoying screen burn.

had the Gnex for a week. Its really overhyped, im sorry to say. There is actually nothing i really preferred over the SGS2. Even the screen was not as bright and vibrant.
Go with the sgs2.
Since you crossposted this thread in the Galaxy Nexus General section, I have to close this down in accordance with XDA rules

Hi guys, what recommendations do you have for my next phone.
I have 2 in mind...
Samsung Galaxy III - blk
or
Galaxy nexus - less powerfull but most people seem to recommend not sure why ?
Will never get a Iphone as there OS is ****. im all about the customization factor and new roms coming out and in the future that will be compatible ect.
Any recommendations ? and could you explain why you recommend ect.
I will be ordering the phone tonight so i need some quick replys if possible cheers.
as i sold my desire hd for £120 lol
If you had posted this before selling your Desire HD I would have said to wait for the new Nexus which will most likely appear around November time. However seeing as you have already sold it, I would personally go for the Galaxy Nexus. People recommend it because of the immense support available for it, both official and on XDA. The main reason why it is being recommended now is because of the Jelly Bean oficial update which made the overall daily user experience better than the new top spec phones ie the HTC One X and Galaxy S3, Officially it should receive every update for a good few major revisions and on XDA there is huge development work for it. Development will still remain strong for it after the new Nexus comes out judging by the developer (and Google) support for the Nexus S.
Personally if I was in your situation I would go for a Galaxy Nexus now because the day to day use performance will be superb with JellyBean and I would possibly sell it when the new Nexus comes out to go for that.
EDIT: But be sure that once the new Nexus gets announced, the resale price of the Galaxy Nexus will drop substantially. Just something to keep in mind when you make your decision.
I couldnt wait lol so i ordered a samsun galaxy III im sure it will keep me happy after my awesome dhd.
S III is the right choice. Galaxy Nexus is getting the updates first, true but it's hardware is already outdated. S III has a healthy community already so you won't be left behind at all.
I have a Galaxy s3 right now and I can say that it is the most boring phone in the universe!
It is so fast that you don't need custom ROMs on it! It is the best in the smartphone galaxy right now! It can do anything you throw at it! This thing is even faster than some netbooks! (ok! all of them)
A friend of mine have the Galaxy Nexus. It is a beautiful and really well build device and with Android 4.1.1 it runs almost as fast as the SGS3!
If you like the standard Android interface and to be one of the first people to get the new updates, this is the phone for you!
So what you need to decide is:
1. Price! The SGS3 is the most expensive smartphone now!
2. Software support! The GN is supported by Google
3. Storage! The SGS3 have MicroSD slot but the GN doesn't
4. Multimedia support! There is no other Android device in the universe that has more codecs supported than the SGS3!!!
There are maybe more deciding factors but you get the point!

You made the right decision!
Yes the Samsung galaxy SIII is the right choice right now.
Well i recommend SONY Xperia S.
Nice screen
cheap for high end device
fast,all games work perfectly!
A$$ load of memory 25,88 GB i made it to 26,00 GB so that is enough
ICS+ JELLYBEAN IN 2013 SUMMER
GOOD battery life compared to desire hd.
looks good
Camera is better than all competition with 12,1mpix! i reviewed agaist iphone 4s and others... so i know that, gotta know howto photography. SO GREAT CAMERA!
good loud speaker.
PLays all videos, if not then DICE player will....
CONS, not so ergonomic Square brick. non removable battery Thats all...
I'd definitely say the Galaxy S3, can't really be beaten at the moment, imo.
HTC One S is awesome worth a try i like it even better than the One X
The main thing I'll be looking for on my next phone will be better battery life. I'm sure everyone wants more, but my DHD is as good as it's been lately (ARHD 6.3.3), and last night I went out at around 4pm with 90%, and at about 10pm I was at 29% and I was actually thinking I should head home because my phone would die out. I used it for texting, taking a few photos... It's just frustrating.
I wonder how a phone with a 4.8" screen actually does on battery in real life usage.
One X is amazing device
I'm in the same boat as you and out of the 2 I'm thinking of ( Same as you ) the S3 is looking to be my choice. One thing to watch price wise is what storage capacity is the phone. CPW have the S3 for £549.95 + £10 payg card but dont state is the 16gb, 32gb or 64gb model. I like CPW 'cause all their phones are unlocked even if you buy on contract

Why give up on DHD???
it still have a good life span.....i would wait to go out right now and get my self a new phone!!!
2 bad that Lord K is shutting down Hes Ice Cold Rom....but i wend in on the Jellybean thread and gave the Unofficial CM10 a shot....and tell U the truth.....all though still in Beta it works great!!.....almost all my apps from ICS Ice cold works..... except the viber app that crashes....My Bluetooth, wifi, cam, gps works just great.....in fact my gps works even better now....before i had to copy some gps files manually into root every time there was a new nightly build.....now it just maxes out on satellites and works great with my sygic app.
And the install of the Jelly rom wend smoothly....into to recovery, clear cashe partition, clean delvig, clear battstats, install the rom , install the jelly gabbs and away it wend......
So guys.....give it a try...and wait at least until 2k13 to look for a new device.....U would be amazed how great the unofficial CM10 Jelly rom works with Ure DHD
