Good app, but the widget still sucks.
I mean no back button? come on
Market isn't update this still useless to me. Can't launch audio store and then leave almost everyone chain refreshing their mobile market app wondering when they'll be able to actually use it. It's just a bit dirty, IMO.
The service itself I like decent enough, though.

Seeking suggestions on some good widgets/apps. My interests are social networking, music, ..the norm.
Also, what do you guys think about the "Twitter for HTC Sense" widget vs. the "Touiteur"?
For music services try pandora or slacker. For players, poweramp, mixzing, or meridian. For song id shazam.
Some people like Foursquare.

Double twist is a good music player and tweetdeck is good for social networking

PowerAMP is the best for music players. Hands down. I bought the full version today - the trial is full-featured but expires after a while.
I use Peep (the HTC twitter widget) but I don't do any tweeting I just follow stuff and check up on it a few times a day. Definitely get Handcent; it's a great SMS replacement app that is really customizable. My favorite is getting it to split messages after 160 characters by word, so there's no word being cut off, and you dont get an annoying message from Verizon about how you can't send over 160 characters to carriers other than Verizon like you do with the stock app.
For web browsing, I'd pick up Dolphin HD. I like it better htan the stock one because I can exit out of it and end the process - for a while I was having problems with the stock browser getting my phone hot and using CPU while I wasn't using it.
Definitely get Appbrain. Then:
On Appbrain, you can install an app called Car Home released by Google. It replaces the (awful) stock "Car Panel." Add it to your phone from the web site and then install it from the application and open the Car Panel app and choose Car Home. It's much more customizable and it doesn't use GPS all the time whenever it's open.
Obviously, get Angry Birds.
Good Morning is an alarm app that I like. It starts playing music and then tells you the time, day, weather, and if you purchase it, your calendar appointments for the day. Get the free version and then upgrade if you want multiple alarms and the calendar appointments.
Hope this helps enjoy your phone.

I have been thinking a lot lately about my phone, I have a Galaxy S and I felt some features that were not there or missing without the third party apps, I think putting these together will help making an already amazing operating system even better
1. SMS and call history
Google should come with service where these are backed up on Google servers, or have the option to save it to the external sd card, so that when you format your phone they should be back again. (Yes I know there are third party software’s that does that but something like that should be a part of Google android)
2. Google Talk with Video Integration.
(Right now Yahoo, fringe etc. are there for video chat) but Google should come up with their own video integration service.
3, Google doc support.
Android is lacking with Google doc support, I hope they come up with it, in coming versions.
4. Google chrome,
It should be the default Browser, and should come up as preinstalled browser on the Android.
5. Bookmarks.
Google should come up with a service like xmarks and xpass, which saves your bookmarks and passwords on the servers and sync them with your home and office computers.
6. Video/music player.
I saw this somewhere on the xda where they have put in upcoming default player for android that would be a great thing to come. Also I would want it to have an option where it gives you option to select the directory which you want to scan and put into the music and video player. I don’t want it pick anything and everything (Like the game video/music files)
7. Google sync.
Google should come up with a default pc application, not something like HTC has their own, and Samsung has bull**** kies. Also it should have options to save a back up for settings, sms, applications and call logs etc.
8. Market.
They made the interface better but they still need to sync it much better to the Google account and next time when you format the phone, the applications which the person has always be using, should come in the list of previously installed applications, so that we can install them all in one go.
9. Power saving feature.
I used the task killers etc.. They don’t really do anything. but one thing I do not know when you close the application why does it keep running in background? We don’t really need this, it should be more like Symbian once you close the app, it should not run unless you rerun it.. (This will help fix the battery issues)
10. Google maps.
They are getting better and better day by day with maps, but one thing I would say is still lacking is the navigation part. Google Navigation is really not as good as the Igo, Garmin etc. They should allow you to download the map of the city you are in and should show route by route navigation. Also There is a Mark your place option missing, you can mark your house etc, unless you save it as a contact on Google maps, which is annoying..
This is my experience on Android and features which I feel are missing and can make the Android the best OS on the earth ...
PS. This feedback is more related with software only, if you know any feature that you miss the most, comment

Guyz this is not something random picked from some site.. this is what I feel is missing on the android... worth a reading.. may be some devlopers put these issues accoss and might help us all
Contrary to popular believe google software is far from the miracle work it's made out to be. In fact their software is often rather immature. Best example of that is google maps but the whole android os is another example. However, unlike microsoft, google is not looking to provide an all in one solution by themselves. They are in fact intentionally leaving out many of the features you mention in order to make those a commodity (and it works, there are apps for most of those functions). It's bad and good for the enduser at the same time. But considering google's software quality, I think it's mostly positive.
PS: Leaving voice and video out of gtalk on the mobile is retarded. But it will likely change with the new apis introduced in android 2.3
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
They probably do back up your call history and SMS messages lol.
Market should be a part of Android (AOSP), not Google Apps.
1. SMS and call history
Syncing to a server would enrage privacy organisations, regular users don't flash thier phone every week. But being able to read them in Gmail would be awesome.
2. Google Talk with Video Integration.
Will be here within months, Andy Rubin already showed it on the dive into D:mobile interview
3, Google doc support.
Google docs = webbased, you can edit in the webversion.
4. Google chrome,
Browser already uses the V8 engine and the webkit renderer, just like chrome.
5. Bookmarks.
Bookmarks already get saved and synced on google phones and AOSP roms, samsung disabled it?
6. Video/music player.
7. Google sync.
it's called google apps (gmail, calendar, picasa, enz)
8. Market.
AOSP roms automatically reinstall all your apps after a reset/flash, samsung disabled it?
9. Power saving feature.
Apps dont keep running, they just keep in the RAM so they don't need to reload. They only keep running if they have ongoing processes, and then you probably want them to keep running.
10. Google maps.

Lol yeah you never know but atleast they should give users an access to that
I agree with every point.
I am coming over from blandroid and unfortunately have a lot of time invested in google services. I know of a few alternatives to google products but there are a few I need help with:
Google Music: free cloud music storage
Google Navigation
Google Translate
Thanks in advance for your help
zune, skydrive, bing maps (and a bunch of good turn by turn stuff in the market)
not sure aobut translate.. but, like on andriod, find an app in the market
Unfortunately Navigation doesn't really have a good substitute. There are some paid turn by turn navigation, but they use local maps instead of always having the latest data straight from Google. The bonus is you get to use them offline, though these were available on Android, too.
Google Talk also doesn't seem to have a good substitute. GChat is alright. It takes a bit of time to start up and sometimes doesn't connect.
Microsoft needs to rethink their stance on multi-tasking. Maybe manually giving applications permission to multi-task. They also need to let developers make plugins for the messaging application to integrate other messaging services.
Overall I'm happy with my Venue Pro, but I won't be selling my Android phone.
If you have a developer phone, check out waze (you can find it in the developer forums here)
You can go for the real thing (sort of),
Google Music - Go to browser. You can actually play songs from Google Music. A bit limited, but whatever.
Google Navigation - gMaps although I am not sure that it has turn-by-turn, it is Google Maps though.
Goolge Translate - Translator Pro. Uses Google Translator's API so should work the same.
For alternatives,
Google Music - Zune Pass is a pretty good thing if you want streaming music, Rdio got updated to Mango to support background streaming. I'm personally waiting for Spotify because my whole music collection is on it (I local filed the songs that weren't in Spotify's database).
Google Navigation - Maps (which is built in), haven't used it, but I heard that it is iffy. If you have the money, go with Garmin. If you have the time, wait until Nokia Maps comes out (not sure if it is restricted to Nokia phones, but I heard that they will build apps for other OEMs).
Google Translate - The real alternative is Bing Translate, but honestly, you can just go into the marketplace and type in translator.
Hope that's helpful!
Once again, the XDA community proves to be the most helpful. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I do like the Zune pass idea but my wife will make me choose between Zune pass and Netflix. The joys of marrying an teacher; never lets me have all the toys I want. Thanks again.
Hi people!
I just published an application "NaviShop- Shop while you Drive" in Play Store.
The idea is niche and I've not quite found anything exact that this app does. Still, I'm facing trouble getting downloads (11 downloads in all!).
Here's the description:
-------------------------------------
Got a lot of errands to run?
And having trouble with choosing and remembering the places where you can get them done?
Not sure of the routes to take?
Sit back and drive while this app handles it all for you!
> Start with Creating a list of Tasks you need to complete. Say,
1. Get a Bouquet for girlfriend
2. Buy Beer for party
3. Get Groceries
4. Get Gas in the car
> Save and select "Synchronize"!
With the click of a button, the app will start synchronizing with your location in real-time and keep suggesting you the Shops/Places where you can get a Nice Bouquet for your girlfriend or Buy Beer for the party!
> We show you the Distance to each shop, so you could conveniently go to the nearest shop.
> Worried about the traffic?
Don't! Because, the app enables you to Navigate to the Shop/Place you select with Traffic View (Google Navigation).
> Not sure if the Shop will be Open or Closed at this time?
The app shows you the real-time Status of the place. (Open or Closed)
> When you have run an errand out of your list, just select the Task and select "Mark Completed" and we'll stop nagging you with suggestions for this task in future.
> Conveniently manage (Edit, Delete) your Lists.
So, why wait?! Put on some music, drive and let us worry about your tasks!

App Review Exchange
Hi,
Hope you doing good. Your App is really interesting. I was wondering if we can do a 'Review Exchange' on Google play for each others App. I have recently launched a very interesting and Innovative App that will very much change the way we use Apps on our smartphones. My App is titled as 'Hipscan'.
Google Play Link: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bobby.hipscan
Do let me know if you agree for a Review Exchange. I will Review your App in-turn on Google play and it will help in increased ratings.

Hello guys. About half a year ago I created WAIL Beta — last.fm scrobbler for Android with pretty good and simple UI.
But I just have no enough time to provide support to it, so I decided to make it Open Source.
I am writing here with little hope, that xda developers can help WAIL app.
Little description of Last.fm: it's a service for those, who love music. Main feature — scrobbling, when you send information about playing tracks to the last.fm and service stores it and give you recommendations based on scrobbled music.
Main features of WAIL Beta:
Catching broadcast intents from Music Players and scrobbling playing music information
Updaiting #nowplaying on last.fm
Offline support (WAIL will send data when network will be available)
Minimalistic Holo UI, looks good on Android L too
Sound notifications feature
App architecture:
WAIL — What am I listening
1) Main part of the WAIL — WAILService, it handles info about music track states and decides what to do (scrobble, update #nowplaying and more)
2) BroadcastReceivers — they catches information from Music players on your Android device and send it to the WAILService
3) SQLite database with tracks info, it allows WAIL to work offline. WAILService periodically checks it
4) UI — all UI based on fragments, Main Activity supports tablets
Main features for future:
Support for RemoteClientController. It will allow WAIL to support about 90% of music players, because it's a common API from Android to work with media apps. For example, your lockscreen uses RemoteControllerClient to show and control playing music.
Showing current playing track on the Main Screen, many users does not understand what's going on at the moment, is WAIL catching something or not
Notifications in the status bar about scrobbling, #nowplaying updates and so on
Settings for control scrobbling in different types of network (mobile, wifi)
You can easily suggest your features in issues list on the GitHub!
Who could be interested in helping WAIL?
Serious Android developers, who want show their skills and help Android App Open Source project
Android newbies, developers who want to become more skilled in Android Development. I suggest you to create or take small issues and send pull requests with implementation.
WAIL users, who is also Java or Android developers and want to fix/change or add something to the WAIL
If you decided to help WAIL Beta app:
Thank you from me and WAIL users!
I created small WIKI with git commits styleguides, git flow on the project and styleguides about source code and resources, please check WIKI on the GitHub page of the project (I can not attach links at the moment)
Yep, succesfully merged pull requests from you will be deployed to the Google Play, to real users!
I will be project maintainer, I will check pull requests and help WAIL as developer at my free time
GitHub repo: http://github.com/artem-zinnatullin/android-wail-app
Also app can be found on the Google Play (WAIL Beta).
It is fully non-commercial.
You can ask questions about app or something else in this thread!
Use this app for a long time. Like it more than other lastfm scrobblers: it's easy to use, it's not buggy, it had a lot of features that other scrobblers don't have
Good luck to you, artem_zin and hope that community will like it too
Have a way to WAIL Beta work with MixZing or it has no compatibility with this player?
You'd better write to developer in cornments on Google play. He always give a quick reply
Thanks for this great App.
Now i can back to scrobble my music on CM13 phone.
Simple Last FM scrobbler wont work because stupid permission.
But this App work perfect and smoth

Stupid last FM official app is to heavy, and simple last FM scrobbler wont work.
Will no one ever pick this up and update it? Not that we really need one, but I'm sure last.fm will **** up their system sometime in thr future and this will require scrobblers to update.

It would be nice if it worked with Apple Music on Android, for starters.
I still cant see this fantastic app in my country store (Poland, cant write comment)
Not working for Apple Music for Android. There is no app available for Apple Music
I think the app needs to require notification access to get to scrobble Apple Music tracks. Is there any way to implement this option ?
Hey, found a little bug with the Samsung Music app on my S8. Wail can´t detect the title of the playing track, it always scrobbles things like Metallica -null
just took a look, it scrobbles as now playing to last.fm (with title and interpret), but last fm wont save the scrobble. Working great on poweramp
Will you add a feature to upload your data to Libre fm?
it keeps crashing on Nougat (samsung a5)
Wont work on Huawei Honor 4c stock Android 6.0
Simply not scrobble anything from any music player. I use AIMP from Play Store
Any news about this app? Its really handy for last.fm users
it's a shame to see this app not updated because it used to work great for me
Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
it still works on my Xperia Z LineageOS 14.1 nightly builds.......
but love to see it updated.
alternative: Pano Scrobbler

Not work.
Alternative is Scrobbal for last.fm
Has anyway been able to successfully import this to android studio lately?
