Downgrading to 2.2.1 - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently had to get a replacement phone and want to root it like I had my first MT4G. I know I have to downgrade to 2.2.1 as I now have 2.3.4 with the new phone. I have searched and searched and can't find instructions on how to accomplish this. Can anyone help me out here?
Thanks,
Nick

Rooting any droid2 is the same no matter if they have the newest update or not.
Here is a link to the post for rooting. Also try and use a forum search or Google search with "XDA developers:" before what you want to know. This will help us keep double post's to a minimum.
Are there any custom roms that are 2.3?

The newest two builds of Fission and Fused should be 2.3.20 but I'm not sure of any others. I think there is a 2.3.20 version of the squidly ROMs but I think that's it. I'm not familiar with ROMs on the other forums.

[Q] synergy RC2 ??

As the title suggests, id like to install synergy rc2 rom. Problem is my evo is already running gingerbread 2.3.3 from over the air update. What is the simplest easiest way i can root & install this rom? My 1st inclination is downgrade to froyo 2.2 first, but im unsure how to go about doing that. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. If this has been covered elsewhere please point me in the right direction cuz ive looked around quite a bit.
Thx
Look around some more.

You can't root the latest OTA update. You're going to have to wait till another exploit is found. Your stuck running sense at the moment unless you go grab yourself a Evo3D.

you are out of luck my friend, like many others and myself. We're stuck with stock GB 2.3.3 ...
All you can do is sit and wait it out until we get a full root again, it will come. Just hang in there..

You obviously didn't look very hard at all. 2 weeks ago, I counted all the threads that asked this same question, and I stopped counting at 80... So I dont know how you have missed any of these threads.
What about the possibility of downgrading, than rooting and applying a custom rom??? Can it be done that way somehow??

Again, this has been discussed at least 50 times in the last month. You cannot downgrade without root. And you cannot root 2.3 yet.

I don't think there's a way to root 2.3.4
Maybe Gingerbreak? But never seen it.
Or you could use the PD15IMG.zip to go back to FROYO then use the other two methods to root like root.sh or gfree.
I too am new at this, however I have been told you can't root if you are running 2.3.4. I've heard it will be weeks but again, I'm new and am going by what I've been told.

I don't think you can downgrade back to Froyo from 2.3.4 either. I tried and it stated the software was older that the current version.
Please, try searching before posting additional thread on the subject. There are 3 threads each day with the same question.

you will need to downgrade to 2.2 first. there is a guide in the development forum which will help you do that and then you can root using visionary or anything like that.
Got it done finally! Thanks
Once rooted can you upgrade to 2.3 and all will be fine or do you have to stay with 2.2?

If you flash any official update, you will lose root.
There are pre-rooted versions of the Gingerbread update in the Development section. That is what you want to flash.
