[Q] RAM Unlock - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I did my best and searched the forums, so forgive me if I missed this particular thread.
I've had this HD2 for quite awhile, and thinking of changing to another stock ROM.
I read somewhere that the HD2 actually 576mb of RAM.
Does anybody know of any ROMs that take advantage of the "locked" RAM? Or any awesomely fast NAND ROMs with Sense that has built-in OC functions (I saw a ROM that had 1.53GHz OC)
I just want to maximize the use of this awesome phone.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Flash dorimanx kernel. It supports 1.5 ghz

it seems impossible to unlock the memory
there are many oc roms,eg,dansta34's Runnymede Sense 3.5 android 2.3.5 OC daemon & HierOS 1.8.3 ker, however, you should know you do oc at your own risk

There are two versions of HD2

Confirmation please?
Someone with an TMOUS HD2 can please confirm this? Can you actually see the 576 Mb reported?

tmous has 576mb ram . Eu hd2 has less.

Lol. You mean ROM. They both have same RAM.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk

No, he meant RAM.
Check the website i posted...

As far as that was concerned, I heard the newer radios after 2.14 unlocked the extra portion for the system. I'm on 2.15. That was the case for the euro hd2's I heard awhile ago. Until the new radios stopped being updated.
You can check if your in windows mobile, just be sure your on the newest radio and you should show 576mb
Also.. http://www.slashgear.com/euro-htc-hd2-hidden-ram-matches-newer-us-spec-model-2871874/

android terminal, run "free", report back please

Everybody don't confuse RAM with ROM with processor speed...
Edit also : you could just search before you post. This is just way several topics below : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350210

No confusion. For now, it states:
TMOUS : 1GB ROM, 576 RAM
EUHD2: 512ROM, 448 RAM.
Leave cpu clock out of this topic please

Tmous - 576
Regular - 448
Regular with a tmous rom and radio - 576
They do both have the same ram, only some is hidden on the regular, only unlocked in certain circumstances.
We all, reg and tmous, show 411 under android.

Looking at another thread... i think we're all mistaken.
Both devices have the same amount of ram. The total ram reported on WM65 was not queried via a command, but a simple file pretty much like we do on build.prop on android.
So, both devices have 448 RAM, and 128 GPU RAM.

That's better...
I was actually thinking that was probably it... like those crappy laptops or motherboards with shared memory definitions for RAM and graphics board ... still much more ram than my first one (256 Mb Apple iBook)...

Can someone please update the device page on the pdadb?

Yeah, basically a Tmo-US is the same as the EU HD2 but with the 576MB RAM unlocked by default (EU needs a newer radio, from .14 onwards), 1GB ROM (as opposed to 512MB), a T-Mobile logo and red/green end call/call buttons (respectively).

just for the purpose of accuracy, its the 50/51 part of teh radio version that determines whether it unlocks the memory.
Any radio that is safe for tmous to flash, (and by definition work with android) will also unlock the ram on a regular hd2. Thats 2.07.50 onwards.
Any x.xx.51, or 2.05.50 and 2.06.50, radios will..
1 - brick a tmous
2 - not unlock the ram on a reg leo
3 - cause magldr (and presumably cLK too) not to start.

Still no extra 128 MB's

Followed the rules have HSPL and installed dutty's rom V1.8, after that the latest radio : 2.08.50.08_2 to free the extra mb"s. Because they not came free after installing dutty's rom.
What did i do wrong, still have only the 448 mb instead of the 578 mb RAM.
Everything is working very fine, good phone for me.
to clarify...
Because you haven't stated where your looking at to get the ram figures here's the deal with the 576MB ram.
In the original configuration you got ~330MB(can't remeber ther exact figure) of usable RAM as shown in the 'SD card & phone storage' section of manila settings and 448MB shown in 'Hardware information' in 'About phone'.
With the 576MB ram tweak you see ~448MB of usable RAM shown in the 'SD card & phone storage' section of manila settings and 576MB shown in 'Hardware information' in 'About phone'.
Just make sure your not looking in the wrong place
Oh and by the way the discrepancy between the two figures ('SD card and phone storage' and 'Hardware information') is due to the graphics taking ~128MB

I'm looking in the hardware information Tab in "info about phone", where i can also see colors ,resolution, CPU, Flash memory and more....
It's really strange, i haven't read anything here about this problem yet.
For now it's not a must to use this extra but sure is for the future.
you should have RAM and ROM there too...I'm using Duttys HG v09 with radio 2.08 and have 576 RAM but I also did with 2.07 radio and HG v08
The ROM info is in the Software info and the RAM info (448mb) at the other tab "Hardware info".
ROM date : 10-02-2010
radio version :2.08.50.08_2
What do you suggest, Install another ROM ? I want to keep this one nothing wrong with it
and it's in my own language and the HD2 is very fast too now.
Or could it be that the dutty rom i have not allows to free the memory ?

It will only show 448 ram because 128 is reserved for graphics. On a hd2 without the extra ram tweak it would show 330meg.
Correct me if im wrong but shouldnt you FIRST flash the radio and THEN the ROM to make it work?

Yep, thats correct, but i've seen several threads where people are quoting the available program memory instead of the system memory, so just wanted to bring that up.
On duttys classic roms, only the WWE ones are 576MB enabled, not the other languages.
Duttys HG roms also are 576MB enabled (but there are only in WWE).
Your rom just is not 576 enabled... Which is the reason why you stil don't have the proper amount of ram!
Flash a compatible rom, and all your ram will be available.
till now i don't understand the role of the rom in showing the extra ram, also it is necessary but i don't understand its role

Why dont u understand? The ROM is beside other functions responsible for a big part of the hardware management (p.ex. how much of the memory is locked, used by xy etc. take for example the pagepool). Sorry but i really dont understand, what u dont understand...

576mb ram questions

I have a couple of questions about the 576 ram hack.
1. Does it cause any battery issues on uk devices?
2. Can it be applied to the T-mobile uk stock rom?
Thanks.
1) no battery drain caused by 576mb of ram, MAY cause some noises during calls but there is a patch for that (Search, like in your sig )
2) you need to flash a custom rom based on tmous (still, I find your post kind of funny given your sig )

[Q] difference 448 ram vs 512 ram on hd2

is there a significant difference between the two sets : one with 448 ram and one with 512 ram
will there be any difference in the outcome if i install android
1) on nand
2) on sd card dual boot with win 6.5
3) dual boot with win 7
i have used an hd2 with 512 ram and i have used android in all three condition mentioned above and i am really satisfied with the result. however due to some problem i had to sell off that phone and now i am getting another hd2 but with 448 mb ram. will it be a noticeable difference. please help to the earliest.
If you use MAGLDR to boot Android you will have 576MB of RAM But you will only have 512MB of ROM so you will have to use AP2SD so you will not run out of internal memory for your HD2. Also some Android ROMs have a version for the TMOUS (576MB of RAM) and a version for the EU HD2 (448MB of RAM)
Correction Both types have 576 ram, it is just hidden in the reg hd2,, running magldr (or clk I assume?) unlocks it.
The tmous versions of android roms are bigger, and don't rely on the ext partition, because of the double sized rom, nothing to do with ram.

This is a question I have been trying to answer for myself Sam. if you will take a look at nmy guide where i added the info on cLK (which I am using now). I put in there a little bit about I do not think it unlocks the extra128MB of RAM like MAGLDR does cause I can find absolutly no mention of a yes it does or no it doesn't. Matter of fact I can find no mention of the subject at all anywhere besides what I put in my guide.
So if anybody out there knows the answer to this question for 100% prof positive please chime in here.
i am sorry but one set has 448 and the other one has 576 ram
none of the mobile is of tmobile. so i guess it does not matter both are equipped with 578 ram and its just that one shows shared and the other one shows total where as that is also shared. am i correct ?
Get a stock regular hd2, as they ship from HTC, it has 320 total useable ram, plus 128 taken by the graphics chip.
Flash a tmous based rom (or magldr) and a tmous radio to that phone and it changes to 448 useable plus 128 for graphics chip, just the same as a tmous.
I am using a EU HD2 with android running off SD Card and when I open Advanced Task Killer, it says I have aprox. 250mb ram free, is this a normal amount?

[Dev] Andorid Leo - 576Ram

Hi, on my HTC HD2 i have a stock rom of desire HD. In the info of my device i see about 420mb of ram. I have radio 2.15.50.14. I think there is a way to enable 576mb. Probably the "issue" require a kernel that allow the rom to use all the ram. There's a patch or someone that can build a kernel with this feature??
HD2 has 448MB of RAM!
576 RAM = 448 + 128 RAM for sys/ video card / 3d accelerator

OK, last one time: YES it has 576MB already
(because trick to enable is: HSPL 2.08 + 2.15.50.14 radio)

wait... you mean the 576MB trick doesn't work with R: 2.12.x.x ???

well...maybe yes. the trick works with all radios that contain 50 (the 51 radios do not work) so if your radio is 2.12.50 it is OK
if you want some technical background: 2.xx.50 radios were originally released for TMOUS version of HD2 that shipped 576MB RAM and 1GB ROM
developers found out that the radios work on EU HD2 too and that it enables the adiidional MB of RAM that were initially blocked.
(the 1GB ROM cannot be unlocked because it is different chip)
all of this was a long time ago in a galaxy far away during Windows Mobile hacking....
in Windows Mobile there was about 350MB total (+ something system reserved leading 448MB of physical RAM)
later with TMOUS .50 radios it increased to about 450MB (+ something system reserved) meaning that 576 MB RAM is on all models.
so you can have 576MB RAM available because it is reserved for radio (phone function) and GPU
I hope that this old knowledge explains everything to all.
live long and prosper...

This is NOT a [Dev] thread and has no business been in this section.
@ OP
DO NOT post topics here unless you are a dev and are posting a dev project/ref. There is a general and Q&A forum for you.
Ok for me! Very good daekin! Number 1! Really sorry for the DEV thread...i only tried to start the dev of a new kernel. Sorry, close or delete thread. Bye

ram memory only 412 mb

I am using nand android, curently, sense of eclipse on my htc hd2 tmobile, and very strange to me is that i have so litle RAM, device is showing 412 mb totall, but my device has 576 Mb ram ?
Is there any solution to increse to actual size of RAM ?
sorry for wrong section
You should be actually posting this in Android QnAs, but thats not a big deal. The .50 radio that you flashed, only unlocks the 576 mb of RAM for WM. Mapping and editing of the kernel, zimage and maybe the startup.txt is required. Until now, the full 576 MB or RAM has not be available for use in Android. Only 448 MB or RAM is available currently, but that is if you add available RAM and system RAM. Your NAND build should be using the 448 MB or RAM. Currently, i presume either the devs are trying to get the full 576 MB of RAM, or its not possible. Firstly, getting the Android system to recognize the 576 MB or RAM would be easier if the device boots straight into Android. Secondly, this can most likely be available only on NAND. Thats all i can provide, as an answer to your question. You,me and probably most members out there know this is quite a big deal, to use the full 576MB or RAM,but the devs has not provided a definitive answer yet. Maybe we can wait it out and see...
Thanks , the answer you wrought was full !!!
Now waiting for solution, becose this android ROM that I am using, eats RAM like candy ;-)
