Hi all,
For any Sydneysiders interested in release dates for the XDA II: Harvey Norman, David Jones and Harris Technology have all confirmed a shipment arriving on Wednesday December 10th, product instore Thursday, December 11th.
(Sorry if this information's already been posted!)
Hope this helps anyone who has so little else going on in their lives that they have to obsessively stalk small, touchscreen technologies (like me).
DMcG
Thats the same time frame as Ive beeen quoted in Melbourne.
Did they mention any prices, Ive been quoted 1599 with a 128 SD card and 1467 without.
Jon
Geez, I hope that that will be similar for Melbourne. I had a P800, and lost it in Bourke st. waiting for a tram. My insurance has been approved, so I am just waiting for Optus to get the XDAII so I can pay the difference. I have called them numerous times, and they don't have any idea when it will be out, they say maybe end of december, early Jan?!!? You can really tell they don't have a clue. They better hurry up and get it before I go to Queensland on the 23rd!!
916senna: Just for your info. , Calculator King in south Melbourne has had the imate-ppc since last Thursday. I called them up this morning as I saw it on their website.
Now the question is: how long will it take Optus to have them available?????????
Thanks GTR,
Organiser world has had the Imate for about the same time. But I think (Not sure) they are sim locked to vodaphone, whereas the O2 ones are for Optus and Telstra.
Telstra told me they will have them on the 12th and I dont see why Optus would be different, You just need to find someone in Optus who knows what there talking about.........good luck!
Cheers
Jon
PS Do you have a GTR?
Who did you speak to regarding the Telstra release? I called and the only release they are expecting is some time in January, according to their product testing update.
Also, no I dont have a GTR. I used to have a R33 gts-t, but I havent changed my nick in aages. Back then, I used to blow over GTR's, hehe.
Telstra shop in Queen St City.
Spoke to a girl named Mia.
But to be honest I'm not sure if shes got a clue. Tried to sell me a Bluespoon digital at what she called retail price. Except it was about $50 more than the published retail for the bluespoon. I specifically asked for a price on an XDA2 and she gave me the price for the XDA. (That when she checked and said the XDA2 would be in on the 12th.)
Cheers
Jon
I gave them a call, and they also said the 12th. The guy there reckons that that is when their stockist will have it, and it could be another month until they get it at their store. ?Q!!?!?!?
I called another Telstra store, and she is getting back to me (said she would call the stockist directly, then get back to me). I missed her reply, so now its a cat and mouse game of getting back to each other.....
Kinda moot, but here's an update anyway.
916senna - Harvey Norman has quoted $1557 at me, and that's with no bonus bits.
I've been on their back about the XDAII since last Wednesday. First the shipment was delayed... then it was delayed again... then they didn't know what was happening:
"Duh, it's not here. I dunno where it is."
(Yeah... that helps me).
So on Tuesday I emailed TechPacific about shipment arrival and delivery, and was told they started shipping to stores on Friday. Called back Harvey Norman (in a minor fit of rage) and spat this information at the attendant.
They: "Uuuh... it usually takes two or three days for stuff to get to our stores..."
I: *growl*
They: "...and everyone's been asking about them..."
I: *growl* "Then you should really know more about them, shouldn't you?" *growl* *teeth clench, one cracks*
They: "...hello? Are you there? I'm getting static... *pause* That's better. We can put your name down and reserve a unit for you, if you like."
I: "That-would-be-lovely-thank-you."
So now, my name is allegedly on a waiting list, to be called when the XDAII arrives.
It's now Thursday, mind you, and I've heard nothing. Soooooooo, I'm going to call David Jones and see if they've got the XDA II. If they do, I'm going to call back Harvey Norman and see what's going on. If they have them and didn't call me, then they've just lost themselves a customer. $1557 will go to someone else without hesitation, I've had it with incompetent retail staff. It's not that hard a job.
DMcG
I know now that its at Telstra stores (the one in Highpoing shopping centre anyway), they called me and said they now have it in stock for $1599!.
Just waiting for Optus stores to get it now, so that my insurance can organise for me to get one as a replacement for my P800 (paying the difference in market value of course)
*grumble*
Not more than an hour after writing my last post, Harvey Norman called me. "Your phone's here... come get it..."
*sigh* That huge spike in blood pressure for nothing.
Anyway, I'm now the ridiculously proud owner of an XDA II and a Logitech Mobile Bluetooth Headset. So far, so good...
No word on the XDA II backpack yet... they seemed quite offended when I asked after it. "What, isn't this enough?!?!"
Who is this tech pacific? Are they the Australian distributors or something?
If so, do they distribute for Optus? I have no idea, and you probably wont either. Im haaaaaaaaaaaanging for my XDAII from Optus.
TechPacific are the Australian distributors for a lot of techy-nerd products.
You can try contacting them, they were really quite civil with me - replied within the hour.
http://www.techpacholdings.com.sg/Contacts/contacts__tech_pacific_australia.html
Hope this helps you.
Would anyone like to take a guess as to what sort of pricing Optus will release the XDA II on contract? My contact expires in March 04 but they normally let me upgrade a month or so earlier...
No Idea. Id be gessing it will be similar to telstras pricing. In Melbourne, Telstra had it for $1,599, and in Queensland at Pacific Fair, they had it for $1,349!!!!! whats going on there? Anyways, I dont care about others, just Optus. I have been waiting for sooooooooo long for them to get it, so I can get it as my insurance replacement. They seem to be the only ones who dont have it yet. Apparently, Optus finished their network tests a few days before christmas (according to a guy named Owen as Pacific Tech). Optus stores, let alone insurance department however, dont even have a listing, or a price. They keep saying now early january, mid january.
This is making me insane
Notebook.com.au have the XDA2 for $1305 which seems to be the best price going around in Australia.
http://www.notebook.com.au/ProductDetails.aspx?item_id=3XDA0002
But I am still faithfully waiting for Optus (Damm you Optus!) to bring out the XDA2 on a plan. I am happy to stay on contract with Optus and hopefully they can beat that price with the contract.
Bugger Optus, I was waiting for too long. They had been saying for soooooo long they were getting it, and never do. Apparently, they are having problems testing on the network. (I was told by Pacific Tech, their distributor and tech staff at optus). I was waiting as I had put in a claim for my P800, and got market value for it for $1239. I thought I would wait for Optus to get it, pay the difference, sweet. Instead, I kicked up a fuss about how log I was waiting, and I got a cash settlement instead ) happy me!!!!
Telstra store in Port Melbourne did the O2 XDAII for me for $1230 cash, I was VERY happy. Im on Optus, no problems at all. I think what they are waiting for is to set up that Optus ZooTV to be compatible with the XDAII first, before they release it. (Told by Danielle in Insurance). This is because, I was told, the XDAII doesnt have some type of browser compatibility with Zoo TV. Once thats cleared up, they seem to think 2 weeks from last Friday, it should be available to stores to buy.
Without actually looking to closely at it that Zoo Tv looks pretty crappy. Well I plan to give it about a month (by then my contract should expire). There seems to be heaps of places that are now selling the XDA II and I-mate but I want the XDA II. The prices are continually dropping so it might even be a $100 cheaper in a month or so. Will wait for Optus to release it but if they don't I'll consider buying it outright somewhere else, then getting another phone on contract from Optus and selling the handset to try to make up the difference.
Andrew.
iMates
G'day All,
http://estore.pressd.com have the imates at $1299 and the iMate SmartPhones at $790 (in stock).
Cheers
Andy
Sorry to bang this thread again but does anyone know if Optus (Australia) is ever going to release the XDAII? I was at an Optus World Shop last week and the sales person had no idea.
Andrew.
Ordered mine today should be with me soon.
Although once the misses finds out i'm done for!!
Yes me too. Got mine from devicewire (still have about 60 in stock if anyone wants one), but then due to a misunderstanding with Clove found out that they are also sending me one out and have already charged my card! Not sure if its coming tomorrow as well, if not I'm hoping I can cancel. I'm not even sure I can afford to go home and be killed by my missus. Still, what she doesnt know wont hurt her. Just need to sell my eee pc and HTC S730 that I bought last week now.
So Clove actually have stock now? They haven't updated their website.
Time to dig out the credit card - I'm also gonna get in trouble for this with the wife...

Yeah they have stock although not sure if its for people who have already pre-ordered. Devicewire.com do have 60 free stock (available to everyone). Luckily as I work in mobile technology I can claim that my many devices are 'from work'.
I also have two on order, one from clove and one from expansys-usa. I think the clove will get here first and then I can cancel the one from expansys. This will be the second from expansys that I have canceled.
Managed to cancle my Clove one although wish that had come first as it was cheaper.
....Just got a call from reception - theres a box waiting for me! Yipee! Only a year of waiting.. Thats my night sorted...no doubt speak to you lot later!:
Mines turned up as well, except i'm in London, and its at home!!
Misses threw a double wobble as usual, good job I not there really!!
She'll have got over it by tonight.
HTC Shift in a London Store (INKINO again!!!)
Just a quick heads-up. Inkino have their stock in and also have one HTC Shift out on demo. It is better then I expected. Surfing was very quick and they let me try it with my SIM card so that there was no 'smoke and mirrors'. There is a nice protective case in the box too. The actual box looks like a big box of chocolate so sneaking it past the missus should be a breeze....
I witnessed 5 going out of the door whilst I was there so it is safe to say that this is going to be a hugely popular machine. Any voicecall hacks yet??
For those who are not aware, Inkino are at 48 Tottenham Court Road and 9 Great Russell Street in Central London and also at www.inkino.co.uk I have no business connection with these guys apart from being an addicted customer who appreciates the old-school style of service.
Well I just pulled the trigger with Devicewire, should be with me tomorrow.
Let's see if Citylink couriers can mess this delivery up, like they do with most of my Ebuyer purchases.....
09/01/2010 - Placed an Order for a Nexus One. The delivery address clearly says Tottenham, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM.
12/01/2010 - I am notified of a DHL Tracking Number. The DHL tracking website says the destination is 'Tottenham, Uganda'.
12/01/2010 - Minutes after noticing this I sent messages to the Google Webstore to say "My DHL Tracking number 8845726*** says that my Nexus One is being delivered to Tottenham, UGANDA. Can you please make sure that it is on its way to me instead in Tottenham, LONDON. Thanks "
12/01/2010 - At the same time, I sent a message to DHL Customer Services with all of my details to say "This package is to be delivered to TOTTENHAM, LONDON. The tracking details say it is going TOTTENHAM, UGANDA. Can you please make sure it goes to the right place!"
13/01/2010 - The package is collected from your warehouse by DHL.
13/01/2010 - DHL Customer Services acknowledge my message and say that they have passed on details. From now onwards DHL will email me every two days or so with a canned response telling me they are looking into the matter and providing no further information or help in any way.
14/01/2010 - My phone gets to 'Cincinnati Hub, OH' - I know this is where it will get on an International Flight, so I phoned DHL in the UK to check and see where it is going. The nice lady on the phone said that it was coming to the UK, nothing to worry about, it'll be with me soon. Sure enough, it lands in East Midlands, UK Airport.
15/01/2010 - The phone passes through London Heathrow. Thought that I might even get it today. Face pressed against my window watching DHL vans drive by.
15/01/2010 - "Transit through DHL facility - Nairobi, Kenya"
16/01/2010 - I make yet another attempt in vain to contact Google. So far I have heard nothing from them.
16/01/2010 - The package reaches Customs in Kampala, Uganda.
20/01/2010 - Today, the phone is still in Kampala. Google still have not replied to any of my messages.
I don't even know whether to expect it back. The most advanced phone ever made, currently being 'inspected' by an official in Kampala. I'm guessing that they will either seize it, or send me back an empty box with a thankyou note. The most frustrating thing is a complete lack of support so far from Google.
I really hope they don't test my patience by not dealing with this matter urgently.
Its my friends birthday tomorrow and I'm sending him my G1... so I don't actually even have a phone at the moment! I really need to get this resolved right now.
According to the Google Support forums, one other guy has his phone in Uganda as well. One guy did have his in Uganda, but it has somehow made it back to the UK in one piece. There is a dude who's phone is in Hong Kong and someone else who's phone is in Singapore.
Nice one Google.
I feel really sorry for you man, but if it makes you feel any better, I almost pissed myself laughing when I read your post. Especially the entries from the 15th.
The fact Uganda is certainly not on the very short list of countries that are allowed to order the N1, only makes this story all the more bizarre.
Well here's Google's number. Let em have it (650)253-0000
Man people are quick to jump on the 'hate google' bandwagon. Like shipping errors never happen, looks like the issue was with DHL anyway.

Nobody's hating on Google. Why would they ship it to a country that isn't allowed to buy it yey
Maybe Google and DHL have been tricked by a Ugandan prince who will gladly pay 1500 dollar americans for the courtesy of you shipping phone and payment via western unions.

Nope no problem with google but that could have easily been avoided if Google had any customer service. Why would I hate on Google when I have the nexus?

Nah man, I'm not hating.
I'm a Google fanboy, bought a G1 when it came out, run my business on Google Apps, bought my sister a HTC Magic and lots more.
Anyway, people make mistakes! Its fine, s*** happens, c'est la vie. My phone is still in Uganda. You know what, that is not the problem.
The problem is a complete lack of acknowledgement from Google. They haven't replied to any of the many messages through different channels that I have sent.
By the way, it is Google's problem. DHL were supplied incorrect addresses and country codes. If you are lucky only the postcodes and parts of the address are scrambled. If you're unlucky like me, the country code gets scrambled too.
Anyway, in the past few minutes I have a reply on my Google Support thread from a Google employee saying that they will be in touch. 11 Days after my first messages but hey, its something.

LOL. . Sorry to laugh at someone else's misfortune but that was too funny!
Mine had the wrong country too (Switzerland in my case) but DHL spotted it and readdressed it.
The guy at DHL (when I queried why it was delayed) said they'd had loads of them like that and were going through correcting them.

I know you're really angry about Google and DHL Customer Cares but, please, be fair and remove this out-of-place comment... it sounds racist too. Thanks a lot and good luck with your Nexus One

I can easily see how that can be taken as a racist comment, and I'm sorry for implying that. But I'm not really coming from that angle.
My father was exiled from Uganda in 1972 by Idi Amin along with the rest of my family, so I've learn't a lot about what life was like back then. Also, I've done my fair share of travelling in Africa.
I don't want to turn this into any kind of political debate at all, but completely separate from how kind, easy going and friendly the Ugandan people are... this is official business. Try dealing with customs, police, or any government body out there. They do what they like! So what I'm saying is that I was just being real.
So yeah, don't take me as a racist. I hope I am as much opposite to that as possible.
Not going to make any more comments about this by the way... just want my N1! Its still 'under inspection' lol

No, really, that was ABSOLUTELY not my intention. In fact i wrote "it SOUNDS racist" and put a at the end.
I know much about Africa corruption their richness (diamonds, petroleum and so on...) is also their conviction.
As you said: no more comments on this, I hope you'll got your Nexus One soon... if possible before Nexus two comes out
Again: good luck!
A friend of mine here in Australia bought an SGS from Singapore via EMS premium tracked post on the 24th June 2010.
He was told by the seller today that Singapore Post (EMS) lost it (confirmed by the www.speedpost.com.sg website as well).
So, buyer beware. I saw a scanned copy of the consignment note, and the sender put "mobile phone" and value SG$950 on it. The phone made it as far as "being sorted for shipping" and that was it...
So if you are brave enough to buy one and have it shipped internationally, I recommend you put "MP3 player" and a much lower value.... Who ever stole it within Singapore post must have thought it was an iPhone lol..
Shame really, also because if the shipment is lost, you can only claim up to SG$150.
Was it stolen before leaving Singapore or after arriving in Australia?
hmm..this isn't really singapore's fault is it? i mean..EMS isn't a well known brand of shipping in singapore. Fedex seems to be the popular choice. then again..rates of them dropping it is super low so i guess you shouldn't be making this thread featuring singapore and ems.
Singapore Post is probably the equivalent of the Australian post, and people choose it because it is cheaper, I guess. Don't they offer higher insured value with higher insurance premium though?

It didnt even make it to Australia - infact, didnt even make it to Singapore Customs - after 14 days of tracing it
Was lost / stolen at the Sorting Centre in Singapore....
I think its pretty poor really... I've used EMS post thousands of times out of China and Hong Kong, and the first time my friend has used EMS out of Singapore, the shipment goes missing... Just happened to co-incide with the release of the iphone 4, so I reckon someone thought they were on a winner. Oh well, who ever it was, got a better phone than the iphone 4 (lol)
I think its a good idea not to put the true contents on the consignment note where everyone can see it, and especially if you're purchasing out of Singapore.

Singapore is a very safe country with a strong rule of law, I would heartedly disagree with what you've just said. However, if you can only get $150 SD due to loss (I assume this is because optional/full insurance wasn't used) then I wouldn't put the whole declared value on it. Only put the value upto the point you can be reimbursed, that should be a rule of thumb for ordering domestically or internationally between any two countries.
There are bad apples in every countries, Singapore included.
Why buy such a expensive device and scrimp on the shipping ;< I feel sorry for you bro.
there are many ebay sellers that ships via FedEX, so in the worse case scenario, FedEX will pay for the phone if it ever gets lost or damaged.
but... that takes like a whole month and more to process, been there done that, not exactly a "fun" situation you want to be in.
[INFO]The Official "I preordered too many tablets and need to get rid of some" Thread
I was lucky enough to be offered a Transformer at cost from ffmax03, due to them having two orders go through instead of one, and felt a thread like this could be of use to others. I figured this will also prevent posts about people having extra tablets available in the [INFO] US Retail Availability thread. While its up to the buyer, I would recommend you only deal with people who have had a few posts prior to this thread being created. Furthermore, you may want to trade seller rating info such as heatware.
While I'm not opposed to anyone trying to make profit on their tabs or anything for that matter, this thread is not for you!
If you get paired with someone from here, tell me with who so I can update!
Note.. I'm not contacting people for you.. Just sorting everyone out as people post they are interested..

Thanks, Jocelyn. Good idea for a thread.
Plenty of looking here, not much on offers yet, hopefully that'll change. I'll throw my hat in the ring for somebody's extra, just in case. I'm just outside of Knoxville, Tennessee, will only be available for pickup until May 8th (or May 6th if shipped to me from someone).
And I currently have three on backorder with Amazon, Tiger Direct, and B&H respectively, no delivery dates from any of them. If by chance I get more than one before I have to cancel the orders for my trip, I'll be happy to sell at my exact cost to anybody who wants one. I have a couple of folks who already started a queue if that happens, but they may well have gotten theirs already, no idea.
