ok basically i bought the phone second hand with lite'ning 1.4 on it and the wifi worked perfectly ok all the time. Since it was very old i updated it to 6.1. ever since then I have had issues with the wifi. it will connect perfectly fine to the router but i have no connectivity from it, nothing will get any net access at all. This is also not 100% of the time, its MOST of the time but not all, i do have moments where it does work fine. very very odd.
I have since tried updating the kernel to ninpho 2.1.3 from the 2.0.5 that comes with lite'ning 6.1, but that made no difference.
Someone suggested i try a wifi fix app from the market so i downloaded "FXR wifi fix and rescue" and ran that. It ran ok, wiped all my wifi settings and i restarted, but it has not solved the problem at all.
i find it very very odd since if it was a problem with the kernel OR the rom then everyone would surely have exactly the same problem. I know some people report wifi issues but most dont seem to.
anyone have any other ideas?
The odd thing is that it worked before the update. That means that it will most likely be software related.
You could try flashing something totally different like MIUI or CM. They provide kernels too, so this might resolve it, if your kernel and rom don't "like each other". This usually shouldn't happen, but updates breaking wifi shouldn't too. So it might be worth a try.

if i went to something completely different i assume i would have to factory reset the phone to wipe it first? (or factory reset it AFTER installing the new rom?)
was trying to avoid wiping it as i dont want to spend endless hours setting up everything again. i have backed it up with the free titanium but id still like to not have to find out whether the restore actually puts everything back properly
its very odd as its not completely broken, sometimes it does actually work, and it always connects to the router itself without any problem.
Probably wrong modem for you, flash another one. You can find modems in the developement section.
ok thanks I will have a look at that. It is currently on XXKH3 which is what came with lite'ning 6.1. i am confused though, all SGS2 hardware is identical so if this modem in 6.1 is causing this issue, wouldnt it affect every sgs2 that uses that modem?
I found the "shipped modem collection" post in the original development thread so have asked in there which modem i should try.
ok apparently i should try XXKI3. for o2 UK provider.
although i have now read that wifi is not managed by modem but by kernel only. if this is true then modem will not help me
Well, if the wifi is not managed by the modem, try what I proposed you earlier. The simplest would be to flash CM. Make a backup of your current rom, then do a full wipe and install CM.
As for your data:
1. Titanium backup restores your apps with their data (if you wish). That means that, for example, your games will keep their saves, other apps their settings and so on.
2. Assuming that you have a google-account, you don't have to worry about your contacts, calender,... Just sync it before you flash.
3. The backup you make in CWM will backup everything in case CM doesn't work for you.
In case it does work and you'll want to keep it, the other two other parts of your backup will minimize the remaining work. Note that you shouldn't restore "standard"-apps like the media-player or the SMS-app if titanium backup tells you that the app is not currently installed on your fresh CM. This means that CM uses it's own media player or SMS app. It could lead into problems to mix TouchWiz apps with CM.
A side-note:
Don't use the "stable" version. It had more bugs than expected and they made it a RC again. However, it is still in the stable folder. Get the latest nightly.

yep i think it is kernel. just noticed that 1.4 had cf-root, 6.1 had ninph 2.0.5 and i then tried ninph 2.1.3 and both ninph's have had the issue. i just tried speedmod k2-13 as i already had that downloaded and so far the wifi has been ok so hopefully thats it fixed. i guess it was something to do with ninph (i am thinking that because i have it set to sleep the wifi when the screen is off that somehow ninph is not handling this properly).
possibly one good thing to come of it all, ive updated the modem to KI3 which is supposedly the best one for o2 UK so i may even save more battery and speedmod is meant to be really good for battery too. I still have lite'ning on it at the moment.
i might have a look at CM anyway but i do kinda like lite'ning (although i havent actually used anything else since the phone came with it!)
also need to look at wakelocks to see if i can save some more, although not sure how i go about 'fixing' them at the moment
The choice between CM, MIUI and the stock mods is the choice between three different UI's.
I've had all three of them for some time. As you got CWM, you can just create a backup and do a sightseeing tour through the world of custom roms. Believe me, it's absolutely worth it. To get an idea of the main differences, I've written a short overview for you:
Stock mods use Samsung's TouchWiz. The default user interface that you get when buying a Samsung Android phone. So it mostly looks and "feels" the same and you can't do much about it.
CyanogenMod gives you the pure Android user interface. It's the closest to the Nexus phones by google, but gives you some extras. It is much more customizable than stock roms. It's sleek and fast.
MIUI is a whole different story. They're "Redefining Android". I think calling MIUI an "Android custom rom" is an understatement. It's an entire OS. The result of putting the best from iOS and Android into one powerful OS. It adds tons of useful(!) features. If you've ever used Windows Phone 7 or an iPhone, you know what a big step forwards Android is when it comes to features. Switching from Android to MIUI is just like that. There is just so much more. It is BY FAR the most customizable Android you can get.
Wow. If I look at how long the texts are, I see that I'm pretty biased. :O
Well maybe because I've switched so often between them. The stock roms had no chance, because after I used one of the others I found out that TouchWiz doesn't cut it anymore. I hate how "iPhone-ish" MIUI is, but if I flash CyanogenMod I just miss so much. Giving you a list of what MIUI adds would be another long post of this length.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
cool thanks will have a look at MIUI at some point.
spoke too soon earlier, the wifi is maybe slightly better on this speedmod kernel BUT when i wake the phone from sleep, it takes about 30 seconds before i can connect to the net with anything. the phone connects to the wifi straight away, but i have no connectivity for a good 30 seconds and then it starts working. (its not the router, i am getting a connection and an IP pretty much as soon as i wake the phone). also the 30 seconds or so only STARTS once i try to connect to something. if i wake the phone and do something that does not want net access for a few mins and THEN try to get on the net via wifi (which shows as connected the entire time) then again i have to wait about 30 seconds from when it first tries to connect before it will start working.
ok slightly confused again.
I have lite'ning 6.1, speedmod k2-13 kernel and XXKI3 modem. I am trying to get cwm installed so i can make a full backup image of the entire phone while i try to sort out the wifi issues. i downloaded rom manager from market, and selected the firstion option in the app 'flash clockworkmod recovery'. it brings up a menu saying 'confirm phone model' with AT&T galaxy S2, a coulpe of i9000s and a plain "Samsung Galaxy S2" which is the one i selected. it downloads something and says successfully downloaded clockwork mod recovery.
i then choose reboot into recovery. when rebooting it attemps to install something but then says "failed to verify whole-file signature" and aborts. so im just stuck with the standard recovery instead.
so now im confused, have i missed something?
Ehhhhm, you don't need to do it.
Have a look at the features of the speed-mod-kernel:
Current features:
Root and CWM:
- Automatically installs root (su)
- CWM 4.0.1.5 recovery
It already installs it right away.
Just in case you messed something up. You should flash the kernel again.
Besides that you don't need the RomManager at all. Just shut your phone down and boot into the recovery with the key-combo. Create and restore backups from there.

Question:will someone help me?
I will begin by saying that I have no idea where the problem exists for my individual situation, and it would be great if I could get some help.
Background:
I used to run Dead Rage 1.2.
Now I have been back and fourth between Skrilax nightlies and Bytecode's cm10.1 with little to no hiccups.
Over time I began to notice a little lag(notification drawer, swiftkey, and basic ui elements).
Problem description:
Then I decided to try some other roms to fix my issues.
When I flash Carbon rom:
- It has no lock screen by default (and I have not been able to fix this in lockscreen settings)
- The home button does not work (neither in pie controls)
- the quick settings panel button in the notification drawer does not open the quick settings( nor can I access the quick settings any other way)
- the home screen apps are strangely and slightly above the software buttons
I saw someone with similar problems in the posts of carbon but it was resolved by a single reflash.
I also tried a relatively new rom called Revolt on droidrzr:
- I experienced similar issues with the home button
- I did not delve into the issues more because the issues were similar to carbon
Explained, further:
As explained above I have flashed without issue before.
I am under the impression that the way to flash is:
1. mount system
2. wipe system
3. repeat
4. reboot recovery
5. mount system
6. flash
I have tried every variation on this set of rules I think is possible for carbon. I initially had TWRP 2.3. I have flashed without rebooting recovery, without mounting system, with a factory reset on the previous rom, wiping cache and delvik as well. If I don't wipe the system I get weird crashes and the home button still doesn't work but it fixes other things like quick settings. Sometimes when I would wipe system, and not do a factory reset, and flash carbon all my apps from the Bytecode build persisted. This made me think it was a recovery problem.
Then I flashed TWRP 2.5. I have similarly tried everything with TWRP 2.5 and get the same results. I have tried 6/21, 6/23, 7/2, 7/4 carbon on both recoveries.
I have a backup of bytecode cm10.1 and I am running that currently.
If some one would help me troubleshoot or fix my problem, I would love to get carbon. And I would be very much appreciative.
If I am in the wrong place please point me.
I did not post in the carbon topic because I do not have more than 10 posts.
I know that people are not paid to help me so I respect when they do.
Also if you need screenshots, I can reflash carbon and take some shots too.

There are many reported issues with rom slots in Safestrap. It is always recommended to flash on the stock slot. If you insist on running multiple roms I'd advice keeping your daily rom on the stock slot for the battery performance alone.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still scratching my head on this one though, as AllianceROM is currently in the stock slot.
I'm going to try out Jasmine ROM v1.8. Flashing it to the stock slot now (did a nandroid backup of AllianceROM and moved it to a ROM slot.) Maybe Jasmine ROM will be less quirky.

There are some quirks to every rom but multiple flashing can leave residual things behind that screw with what is currently running.
I do this everytime I flash a new rom. If you don't know about this already you'll be surprised just how much is left behind after wiping the slot the normal way. You should still do both wipes. However be aware that even doing both of these multiple times there will still be some residuals left over.
The other thing I can recommend (but not all the time, warnings are in the OP) is a Odin restore. This will completely wipe and reset everything, there should be no residuals.
Good luck on Jasmine.
Not sure on your particular problem, since you said you were in fact on stock slot. But a few comments just in case it helps. I had problems with every single rom that I did NOT put on a freshly wiped stock slot. Any other slot always created problems. I also ran into many various issues when reinstalling my titanium backups. So the last install of Alliance that I made (the current rom that I'm using now, for the last couple of months), I kept it to a very minimum. I used titanium to reload my texts and maybe a few game apps (data only), that was all. I always use google to restore my contacts, emails, etc. And my pictures, ringtones, etc are always stored on my sd card. I know allot of people rely heavily on backups, but I usually have more problems than what its worth. Hell, up until the last couple of roms, I never even made backups. If I bricked a phone, I just wiped and started all over. And the same every time I switched roms. The only thing I lost was old texts and my progress on solitaire scores, lol.
As far as your specific problem. The only thing I would suggest is try thinking of any sort of settings or apps that might link the flashlight or torch feature with the camera. I don't use any other apps, but I know there are allot of alternative torch apps, and also ones that use the camera, like instagram, etc. The only experience I have with any related error is if I try to open the camera while the torch is on, it force closes the camera. Turn off the torch, reopen the camera, all is back to normal. I'm using the stock camera, and stock torch app...

Struggling with CyanogenMod 11
I installed last night with Philz recovery (most recent version), factory reset, wiped cache and dalvic cache first. Things appeared to be running smoothly initially but I realize I don't have any sound (DSP manager crashes when I open it or when I open Apollo). I'm not able to answer or make phone calls. I'm pretty new at this - do I need to update my modem? I know Knox got installed (0x1) and the baseband version says mk2. Is there a ROM that would work better for my phone? Can I install rom that say NAE and NG2? I'm just looking for something that's stable and has great battery life. Or is there something I'm doing wrong with Cyanogenmod?
Here's info in the about phone page:
SPH-L720
11-20141008-SNAPSHOT-M11-jflte
4.4.4
L720VPUEMK2 (baseband)
Kernel 3.4.104-cyanogenmod-gc55a5d6 etc
CPU ARMv7
Memory 1809 MB
Please help.
A second thorough wipe may be worthwhile. Otherwise download a fresh cm copy as the other may have gotten corrupted. Reload and reflash.

I got the same thing when I was using the front facing camera today. Took one picture then FC. Had to reboot to connect again.
Probably the fastest rom iv tried. But WiFi signal comes and go. Some applications close by then self. And the voice recording is terrible.
SIM problems
Is there any way to use CM12 without having a SIM card inserted because it won't allow the phone to connect to any network even though I've ben using my phone on Boost Mobile for almost a year now.
I'm running TWRP and the 2/8 nightly, I've been unable to access my developer options since the flash, even with factory reset before and after flash. Also having issues with the camera, seems to only want to take a few photos before it just stops capturing and force closing, leading to "unable to connect to camera". Any thoughts on the dev options issue?

Move from CM12 nightly to Lollipop Stock Rooted
Greetings!
I've been running the Cyanogenmod 12 nightly build 12-20150224-NIGHTLY-jfltespr on my S4 (baseband L720PUFNG2) with ClockworkMod 6.0.4.7 installed. I've been experiencing some battery issues and miss features included in the stock Samsung ROMs, such as a working IR blaster and multiwindow support, and would like to move from CM12 to a stock AND ROOTED configuration. I have a few questions:
1) Where do I obtain the *correct* ROM to flash? I'd like Samsung's stock rooted Lollipop, *if possible*.
2) Do I run TriangleAway FIRST, and then flash, or flash, and THEN run TriangleAway?
3) After I flash the stock ROM, am I safe to recover user apps AND system data with Titanium Backup, or should I simply start fresh, being spring and all?
4) What about KNOX? Will it complain/cause issues/take off and nuke the entire site from orbit?
BTW, I *have* searched these forums, but there's almost an ocean of data to sift through even so, and most of my results date from 2013/2014. I don't want to get this wrong, as this is my only phone, and I've already softbricked for a day (no PIT found!), and want to avoid that happening again if possible.
I'll keep hunting for what I want on my own, but any help you geniuses here can provide would be.... well, helpful.
Thanks!

No, and that answer probably means, apart from "do a nandroid backup next time, idiot", that I have to do a full wipe and can't restore my user data. I'm actually fine with that, as I don't really have any information on my phone that isn't already attached to my Google account or otherwise stored in the cloud.
What are the consequences beyond losing my data because I didn't do a Nandroid backup, if any?
And where do I get the stock ROM, etc.?
I see a bit of a green tint after latest updates (03/08 and 03/11).

well not making a nandroid could be bad because you could have a bad flash and soft brick and all u have left is download and/or recovery mode and u can always go back to having a functioning phone with your backup. And plus running cm12 u could restore your back up and update your prl and profile then restore your cm12 or do the same for a gps lock. Always make a back up man. U can get the stock touch wiz by either searching the forum for it which I'm sure it's here or u can go to sammobile type in sph-l720 and download the current stock tar file then re root and make a back up of stock before u even delete any bloat that way u will always have a completely stock back up.

Installed the 3/28 nightly last night and really digging it. I don't use it as a phone so I won't be able to test that aspect. About the only bug I've come across is that Falcon Pro 3 Twitter client can't play Youtube videos inside the app. Works on stock Lollipop. Not a biggie but thought you guys might want to know about it. NFC seemed to work great when I used it during initial setup. Camera pics and video looks great. Will try testing Bluetooth with file transfers to Nexus 7 (2013) tablet later. I'll try to report any other issues I encounter in this thread. Thanks for the really excellent work.
Edit: Well, I just played a YouTube video within Falcon Pro 3 (from The Verge Twitter account) and it played flawlessly. So that last attempt was either a borked link or who knows?
I am having the same issue with 13., moving back to 12 trying a new download.

Haven't found one other than buying a new phone haha! Still using the S4 but can't figure out the problems
Hi all
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 G900F, which when I got it 18 months ago was very eager to get involved in rooting and getting a custom ROM on it.
Fast forward to present day and the novelty has worn off, I haven't kept up to date with anything, and I am probably very out of date.
As such I would like to either update to the latest ROM or just flash the latest stock - I am not sure I really use much nowadays that even requires anything other than stock (used to play a lot with Tasker, sysadmin apps)
What has prompted this is of late my phone has been very laggy, crashing, sys apps hanging, etc. I also dropped my phone ages ago and occasionally the screen stops working (although still responsive) and I have to take the battery out to get it back (sometimes it reboots to a full screen of coloured static, and I have to repeat this several times). Now I know this seems like a hardware issue but at times the phone will not have been touched or moved and it'll do this, which makes me hope that maybe updating it will help.
I have a paid version of Omega Files Pro but apparently there has been no update for a very long time.
Hopefully you guys can help me get back up to date and on a level
Android Version: 5.0
Baseband version: G900FXXU1ANCE
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-Omega-1.0
Build Number: Omega V17 - XXU1POCF
I have PhilZ Recovery iirc.
Thanks in advance, if you need anymore info please say.
Install the rom from alxndr thread. Its a stock rom slightly optimized. It is the best for stability, performance and battery. There is only great reviews about it, it has a great community, and he updates it very frequently.
He has roms for either android 5 or android 6, which could can find in the second post of the thread.
If you choose to install android 6, you will have to update the bootloader and modem. They, as well as instructions, can be found in his thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/rom-ane4-kitkat-4-4-2-multi-csc-t2813628
To correct the issues, you will probably need to perform a full factory reset before installing the rom. Before anything, I recommend you to do a full rom backup (using your recovery). That way, if you forgot to backup something (like your taskers profiles), you can always go back.
Before doing the factory reset, you should backup your SMS, calls and apps. The easiest way to do it is by using the integrated backup tools in your S5 options : in the backup&restore sections, you will find a Samsung section that can backup messages and phone calls. There will also be a Google section where you can choose to backup your apps. If everything is set up correctly, once you will boot the new rom, you will be asked sequentially if you want to restore the samsung (Messges, call logs) and google (apps) data.
Thank you I'll have a read.
