Messaging 'bubbles' - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I want the stability etc of froyo but the beauty of other roms. I would like to know if it is possible to use a rom such as CoreDroid but have the messaging bubbles from later releases of sense roms?. If it is what apk's etc do I need to extract to be able to do this?.
Thanks in advance
Scotty.

You cannot simply extract the mms.apk and install it into your ROM. If you want a similar look and feel of sense 3.0/3.5 builds or customization on every aspect of the messaging UI, I would suggest a third party application such as GO SMS, Chomp SMS, or Handcent SMS (all of these can be downloaded from the market).

Looking for kwbr 4.4/4.5 COM2 no HTC messaging ROM

Guys, I need some help here.
I'm looking for anyone who still has the ROM files for kwbr 4.4/4.5 COM2 no HTC messaging ROM. This ROM IMO gives me the best result on my HD2.
All 3.14 based ROMs cause problems with WiFi in my university(disconnects frequently). I also need the ROM to be WITHOUT htc messaging because I need delivery reports for sent text messages and I need SMS Reports Eraser to put them neatly into a "delivery reports" folder. SMS Reports Eraser doesn't work with HTC Messaging.
Or can anyone suggest to me a COM2 2.X based ROM that has NO htc messaging? I don't see any ROMs here other than kwbr's that have HTC messaging removed.
THANKS!!!

you can also check my sig for energy rom archives. He only released one 3.14 rom to date, didn't like the drivers and reverted back.
All his roms are htc messaging free as well. Check them out, that way you could still have updated ROMs.

Messaging app replacement

I was having a go with imilka's GB Sense rom and I liked the look of the new messaging app. As the app is still a dev rom, I don't want to use it as my daily rom. Is there any way for me to use that messaging app in a different rom, more specifically RafDroid. I was thinking that maybe I should flash the apk but I wasn't sure if it was as simple as that and I also found several message apks.
Anyone have any insight as to how to do this or whether it is even practical?

to install that app in a new ROM just use in cmd
"adb push apkname.apk /system/app"
If it is sense app it will not work in non sense builds
Thanks for the answer but I am still not sure how to do that. By cmd are you talking about command prompt in Windows? Is there a way of doing it through using a file explorer in Android? And it is a Sense app but it is from Sense 3.0 but I would like to put it in an older version of Sense. Can I do that?
There's also a few apks, which should I use? There is HtcMessageCS.apk, HtcMessageProvider.apk, HtcMessageUploader.apk, htcmsgwidgets.apk and MessageTabPlugin.apk.

LOL of course it is possible, root your 2.1 rom, copy all from System/ app folder in your SD Card, install Android 2.2/2.3 and install the apps from original rom , There you go, original SE apps

Some of the apps will run without modifications like Tower Bloxx.
what about track id? i'd love to see this app on GB
Many stock apps need SE framework to run,i also like that walkman app, anyone can tell us how to modefiy these apps to work with 2.2/2.3?
the original messages, trackid are the ones i'm keen to have on 2.2 or 2.3

tower bloxx is a game.. not an app what needs the se framework
You can use Soundhound instead of track ID
Sent from my X8 using Tapatalk
Indeed. Soundhound works great (H)
Even works with just humming. Everybody in my house are like crazy finding out songs that didn't know the name.
I would need Roadsync because I consider it already payed with the phone.
If I want to use any other exchange mail application I would need to pay it.
is there a way to copy it to custom ROM's
can somebody try it?
thank you!

[Q] How can I install Themes on my Android phone?

Hello,
I am running Android 2.2.1 with sense 2.0 on HTC HDs. So I want to have some of those cool themes like this one ==> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761517.. or this one ==> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134657..
I've downloaded may ".zip" files and tried to flash them through CWM but no luck, I got the message below:
" Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported. Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5. It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbeard based recovery. Please switch to Edify scripting (update-script and update-binary) to create woking updatw zip packages. Installation abort".
Then I tried another themes with ".mtz" but I didn't know how to install them. It needs an app called "Theme Manager".. I installed that Theme Manager app but its not working, I couldn't even found the app icon on my phone!..
All what I want is to have a beautiful themes for my phone!.. :/
Why is it so difficult to get it work? & how to?
Thank you..

I'm not sure, but I think your ROM has to be Cyanogenmod or MIUI based to be able to flash new themes, at least, non - sense themes (seeing as you are running a sense ROM)
Also try moving theme manager to internal storage.
The .mtz files are themes for MIUI. You need a MIUI ROM to install those themes.
I haven't used Sense in a while but can't you download themes (Dock bars etc.) through the HTC hub?

Oh no!.. This is really what I was afraid to hear! Because I've bad times with other ROMs. Actually I've flashed many ROMs before but it couldn't last more than 2 days with me .. There was no logical reason but all the ROMs that I've flashed make the phone freeze & sometimes rebooted unexpectedly when I made a call or receive one. So I went back for the original one..

HTC hub themes sucks!
I've had problems with non-sense Android as well.
While MIUI themes don't work on sense. you can search for sense-based themes. Some can be flashed using CWM, and if that doesn't work, you can copy the files to their proper place manually using root explorer or any similar app, but you have to be 100% sure that the theme you're using is fully compatible with your ROM/build.
You can also try using a third party launcher that is themable like launcher pro or go launcher. You can use gosms to get a themable message app...

I'll try your suggestions & feed u guys back.. Thanks
Sense builds are not launcher friendly
my phone performance dropped considerably when I installed ADW, Go launcher, and launcher pro. Never bothered to try any more.
well i don't know, i never used sense builds cause they are much slower.
im on miui from langthang at the moment and it's just great. i don't like the launcher and installed another.
i don't really understand why the op couldn't get other roms to run fluid. if you want to customize a lot you should try a clean install with a miui build.

Just a theory but could you use titanium backup to freeze HTC sense after setting 3rd party launcher as default? That may speed it up.
in theory yes, but if something wrong happens with the new launcher you will not be able to revert to what you had earlier.
I tried that a long time ago, and when I reset my device it got past the boot animation into a black screen, and nowhere further. but that was on one of the few first Sense builds. not sure if it will work on the newer ones. I don't have the courage to try that again

I see. You're a chicken.
Just kidding, so freezing HTC sense caused the build to stop booting? So... probably not the best idea then.
haha, well kind of XD
I like stable sets, so when I find any stable thing I stick with it. I don't have much time to try different settings.
as I said, this problem happened to me using the very first few sense builds, things may be different now.
if you're using an SD build, you can backup your data and system images and try that out. let me know if it works in newer builds
here's an update on the issue:
If you want sense without sense launcher here's a nice build for that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997899
and a tweaked themed build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130359
You can also run a sense build smoothly with another launcher if you make the launcher hard to kill using the supercharger script here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126940
I've tried the solutions above and all ran nicely. a bit of lag with the last one but not a major one.
